Initial contact for estimate was very professional, with several options presented. After selection was made, a technician arrived to give the house a "before" rating to be used for rebates from GVEC. Installers arrived on time, worked for almost 12 hours the first day and 12 hours the second day. Finished work after another 4 hours the third day. They left the place in immaculate condition each day. Two days later, an inspector and a master electrician arrived to double check all the work, and they spent another 3 hours double checking the work. Cost was pricey, but they stayed with the estimate even though they had to build a new platform in the attic and redo several electrical leads. Cost included two years maintenance. I was very happy with the result.
Description of Work: New HVAC unit installed. All existing ducting removed and replaced. All insulation removed and replaced.

The thermal barrier was done a few days before the duct work and the service man who arrived did an quick and efficient job. A few days later the workers from Jon Wayne arrived to do the duct work. All the service personnel who came out we very professional and extremely polite. I was told when to expect them and they showed up on time and did the work quickly and correctly. While the work was being done, someone from Jon Wayne came out to ensure that all was going well and to make sure that I was getting what I had purchased. After the installation was completed they cleaned up and we on their way.
Description of Work: Replaced my entire AC ducts and vents, got a thermal barrier under the roof and had new ceiling insulation installed.

The proposals they brought were not itemized. The simply had an overview of what we has asked for with a total price. I am a control freak, and expected a breakdown of costs, not a total. I felt the prices were too high, but could not really know for sure, because of the lack of detail I had expected.
Description of Work: Our house was built in 1903 so it presents some challenges. We had done a lot of work in 1986, including installing central heat and air, as well as lowering the ceilings from 12' to 8'. They sent a team member to do an initial assessment. That person brought in an engineer at a second appointment, who in turn brought in a third. We went over the list of things we wanted done, which was pretty extensive.

Very well. Rerouting the air intake provided much better air balance. The energy bill has been noticeably lower and the cooling and heating is much more evenly distributed. The unit is quieter than the previous. The employees were much more knowledgeable than previous companies used, and they seem to have solved a 10-year issue where certain rooms were either too cold or too hot, by adding an additional air intake. The price is at the high end of the scale so it's NOT the provider to call if you are looking to do this work on the cheap. I tried that route with another "discount" provider and it cost me more in the end (they forgot to remove a drain plug on the fan that burned up the motor), so I was happy to have to work done by a seasoned professional. Jon Wayne also provides a service agreement where they come out twice a year and service and clean the two units. They do a fine job and spend at least 1 1/2 hours on each visit, but they always look to up-sell you to something new or suggest a replacement that is not a necessity. No surprise, but it is annoying.

I have a service contract with them and they did an installation a few years ago. The service contract has things bundled with it like filters and warranty for the unit they installed. They are very attentive and deliver the filters to my home. Once they delivered the wrong filter, but came back the same day to deliver the correct one. They also added an additional vent for my unit, for safety's sake, once when they were here for maintenance so I thought that was a pretty good service.

They were punctual and professional; however, their bid was extremely high - $40,000 - so we used another contractor to complete the work. We got three other comparative bids for identical work and got our new unit and ductwork for half the price of their bid. I cannot speak to their quality of work. The sales rep was very knowledgeable, professional, and spent the necessary time with the bid process.

I would recommend them and we actually have a service through them periodically, they will come in to check things and change the filters.

The quote that they gave us was outrageously expensive, it’s ridiculous. They gave us like $3,000-5,000 for the cleaning. I think the quote was reasonable for a commercial site but not for house purposes. The person didn’t talk to me personally but he spoke to my husband and he basically said that if we want the house to smell like a dentist’s office, as far as the air goes, these are the things that he will do to make it to be so clean. We are not trying to make it clean like a dental office, we are trying to get rid of some smoke out from our house. Maybe they have different types of methods.

Although my grading to this company is not bad, I am not completely satisfied. Granted no service was completed by them, but the diagnosis and pricing I was given was by far incomplete. When San Antonio was hit with cold weather, I decided to FINALLY turn on my heater. Well, since I bought the house I had no need for it (2 years ago). I set my thermostat to heater but it never kicked on. After a couple frigid days, I finally decided to contact someone to check it out. Luckily, I found John Wayne had a coupon on Angie's List. The ratings seemed good so I thought, "why not". I paid for the coupon online and I was contacted almost immediately via email that I needed to call John Wayne to schedule an appointment. When I called to make an appointment, the rep asked me for payment and I told her I had paid for a coupon on Angie's List. The contractor came out to my house house and was very professional and at the time seemed like he knew what he was talking about. He did give a diagnosis of what he saw was wrong with the furnace, BUT his diagnosis was very incorrect. He stated is would probably cost a couple thousand dollars to get my unit fixed. My issue with this is he was completely incorrect. I had my warranty company send out one of their contractors and the only issue was the new thermostat my utility company put in. Apparently is was not connected properly so all I needed this whole time was a working thermostat. At the time of service, the tech asked for payment and again the company had no idea we already made payment for the service. Needless to say, my system is working just fine for it's old age.

Service agent arrived and took a good half-hour to "diagnose" airconditioner failure. He offered a "bandaid" fix which meant he would put in a new fuse for $175 but that we could never turn off the AC or the fuse would blow and we'd have to have them out again for another bandaid.(It got cold 3 days later and we had to turn on the heat :( The service agent said that our AC unit was going out and that this was really our only option. He explained that our unit was 14 years old and that it wouldn't last another year. Then he started to explain how John Wayne could help replace the unit. On a suggestion, I called Honest Air. They came out, looked around and said the thermostat my husband put in was the wrong one. Problem fixed. Then he went through the unit and performed some maintence for $300... and said our unit doesn't need to be replaced unless we wanted too. AND that he could do it for $2000... (compared to the $5000 for a new bottom of the line ac from John Wayne.) Sounds like John Wayne is into replacing units, not fixing them.

On Friday, Nov. 29, I discovered a leak in my sprinkler system. It was near a valve that I was able to shut off. Because it was the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, most plumbers and sprinkler irrigation specialists were unavailable. Jon Wayne however, was able to come on Saturday. The plumber came and for $325 uncovered the valve (I had mostly uncovered it the day before when I had to shut it off), and told me I needed a new double check valve. I'm fairly handy, so I asked if this was something I could repair. I was assured that it was over my head, that the risks of an improper repair were great (irrigation water could flow back into the drinking water), and that it would create a more expensive problem if Jon Wayne had to return to fix the valve after a botched repair. The plumber did not have the valve with him that day, so I had to reschedule him to come out on Monday to replace the part. I was told that the part plus labor generally costs about $1100, but the $325 I paid on Saturday would equally reduce the $1100. This was important to me because I spoke with another irrigation specialist prior to Jon Wayne who told me he would charge about $700-$800 to replace the part, but he was unable to come out over the holiday weekend. Since Jon Wayne came out on Saturday, I thought it was fair to give it my continued business. The plumber returned on Monday and replaced the valve. However, when I came home from work, I discovered that the sprinklers did not work. Until the valve was replaced, they worked fine. I called Jon Wayne and the plumber came back out on Wednesday, purportedly fixed the problem, and then left. I came home from work again and tried turning on the sprinklers. Unfortunately, they still did not work. After calling Jon Wayne again, I agreed to a four-hour window for Jon Wayne to arrive on Thursday to fix the problem. I took off over half the day from work and waited for Jon Wayne to arrive. At the end of the four hour winder, I called and asked where the plumber was. I was assured he was finishing a job and would soon be on his way to our house. An hour after the four hour window closed, I called again. Dispatch called back and told me he would soon be on his way. Unfortunately, I couldn't wait around any longer and I can't take another day off of work. So, we've re-scheduled for him to come out first thing Saturday morning. As I was going to work Saturday to account for taking half of today off, this again puts me behind. While I understand that repairs do not always go as planned, I'm disappointed that the sprinkler system was not checked after the repair was initially made and that it appears that the plumber did not check the sprinklers through the control box the second time he came out. Most of all, and why I ultimately doubt I will use Jon Wayne again, no one at Jon Wayne ever intended to call me to tell me that the plumber would not arrive during the four hour window we scheduled on Thursday. Four hours is a significant period of time, and I should have been informed that a plumber would not be here so that I could plan my day accordingly. I'm disappointed that Jon Wayne did not show much respect for my time. In fairness, I have used Jon Wayne in the past and have been satisfied with the work. It has done work on both my water heater and my heater / AC unit. Its employees are always courteous, including the plumber who is working on the present problem. However, after this last experience, I'm doubtful I will use Jon Wayne again. This is too much of an inconvenience, and the lack of thought to even give a call when a service provider is going to be hours late is unacceptable.

Kitchen plumbing rework. I bought a new sink and took the old one out. After installing the sink and new faucets the drain pipe didn't align. I called John Wayne because I have their Rescue Club. First off, they came out only prepared to give an estimate. With the 20% off, the lowest price they offered was $750 to fix it and hook everything up. That came with a lousy 90 day warranty. For over $1,700 I could get the same work done with a 5 year warranty! They said it would take 3.5 hours--that's about $215 an hour! Instead, I bought less than $30 in supplies and did the work in a day! I was going to get another price quote, but didn't bother, but I'll bet it was no where near that ridiculous amount! You think I was hiring a lawyer, not a plumber! Can you guess if I'll be canceling my Rescue Club when it's done? The Master Plumber was very nice and professional and they responded quickly. That's about all I can say good.

The provider that was sent was Mario, and if all of their providers are as great as he is, I would recommend the company for everything that they advertise. Mario arrived and put on overshoe covers before entering the house. He was very informative of everything that he was doing and why it was necessary. In spite of the age of my furnace, about 18 years old, he did not try to force me into a newer model. He did say that within the next few years that I will want to update it and suggested that I start saving for the inevitable. Mario explained the benefits of the newer models, and complimented me on the care that I have taken with the one that I have. I really can't take credit for that as our winters in Texas don't put a tremendous amount of strain on furnaces. Mario checked that I was up to code on everything, checked the thermostat and assured me that it would be fine. When I asked if everyone at Jon Wayne was as nice and informative as he was, Mario spoke very highly of his company and its policies. From the way they have their service meetings are handled, to his managers kindness for supplying air conditioners to a pound that had had its equipment stolen, made me think that if I were a younger man, I wouldn't mind working there too. Mario isn't just an A-1 serviceman, he's a heck of a recruiter too. Thanks again.
