Lionel gave excellent, courteous, professional service. I would definitely request his services again.
Description of Work: We woke up to 2 of our showers being backed up with water. I called Jon Wayne service and Lionel Mata their technician was in my home within an hour to do the repair. Lionel was professional, courteous, explained very well exactly what he was going to do. He was able to unclog the drain quickly.

First, I called them to set up an appointment to diagnose why our HWH wasn't working; the woman who answered the phone told us that a diagnostic visit would be $29.95 before I even told them I had bought the "big deal" off of Angie's List the cost the same amount, so it looks like Angie's List customers don't actually get a discount off of the normal price. She told us she could have a technician out sometime between 12 and 4. The technician arrived at a bit after 3, so still within the time window, but getting close to the end. He very quickly looked at our HWH, verified that it was not working, and said that it would be another $160 for him to open it up and begin actually diagnosing it (what was that $29.95 even for?). We have an electric HWH that is starting to get a little old; it was manufactured 12 years ago, although we don't know exactly when it was installed, but he encouraged us to just go ahead and replace it and explained our options. He said that their low-end replacement option would be $1,497, but due to electrical codes being updated since our house was built we'd need to hire an electrician to rewire the connection, and that would be another $525. He also very highly recommended we get an extra flood protection valve installed for $999. So, we're looking at at least another $2,022 to $3,021, or thousands more if we want a larger HWH with a longer warranty. We told him we'd think about it but were going to get another estimate first, so we called Will's Plumbing to take a look at it. Their technician spent about 5 minutes testing things and found that one of the thermostats had failed and the other was probably about to wear out, too, and told us that he could replace one for $270 or both at once for $380. Otherwise our HWH is in good condition and we should expect to get several more years of life out of it. When we asked him about the estimate we got from Jon Wayne, he also told us that while there are several places around San Antonio where electrical codes have changed, we don't live in one of those areas, and our current wiring is fine. We had him replace both thermostats, and now our HWH is working like new. I'm sure Jon Wayne would've done a good job and provided high-quality hardware, but I don't really appreciate being pushed h****** a several thousand dollar up-sell when we just wanted a repair.

We did not feel like he was trying to cheat us, and the breakers did need to be replaced. However, we found another company that said that cost was about average, but, since they had done repair work for us before, they would do it at a lesser cost. We had not used this second company because of the waiting time for service, and because the Jon Wayne special seemed like such a good deal, and "they were on Angie's List!"
Description of Work: Came for the $39.00 repair, and discovered that our breaker boxes were out of compliance and he would not be able to do the repair service. The estimate for bringing the breakers up to compliance came to over $9000.00. We did not think that was a reasonable price, and contacted someone else.

I called Jon Wayne based on a few reviews posted on Angie's List and on the web. I mentioned that I had seen several deals on Angie's List during my conversation. I very nice lady answered the phone and I provided my information, she stated she could have a technician out to my house TODAY for a service fee of $69.99. I asked if they had any deals through Angie's list, she said yes, I was able to find one for $25.00. I asked if I could use this coupon, she said yes, BUT could not have a technician sent to my house until A DAY LATER. What is more important here? Maintaining a good reputation based on customer service or servicing calls that pay full price? Very disappointing to realize companies act out of greed.

The worker was professional, prompt, and courteous. However, the deal on Groupon was $39 with $75 toward repairs. When the electrician arrived I had to pay an additional $45 toward repairs due to their "fixed" amount toward repairs. It was a simple light switch that needed repair and took less than 10 minutes to complete. I would be very concerned to see how much a major repair would cost!

The actual service went well. However, I informed them I was having this service done as a contract requirement for the sale of my house. That's when the service turned into what amounts to blackmail. A 5 year old house and a 5 year old system "on the verge of failure" and "not up to code" due to lack of sensors on the overflow pan"...really? This is the second AC service in 2 years and the 2nd home inspection in 2 years, no mention of either of these "catastrophic failures" or "code issues". During the service, the technician felt it necessary to interrupt my packing and drag me up into the attic to look at a pan full of water (that had already been identified in the inspection) caused by a clogged drain line, but didn't think it was necessary to show me on BOTH AC systems outside where "a reading" showed the systems were going to fail. This service lasted 3 HOURS...who pays $200 and gets a 3 hour service of their AC system??...nobody. This was a full diagnostic of my unit in order to attempt to find something wrong they knew I would be forced to fix. However, after multiple conversations now with the technician and the supervisor, they referenced these findings to the technician's "opinion," and the technician said, and I quote "the system is fine, but I have to give you my opinion and recommendations."....No, you don't. So, instead of simply providing me a receipt with the services performed, I get a dissertation on all these issues with a statement at the bottom "customer refused all options provided"...in other words, note to buyer "the system is failing and the seller doesn't want to fix it." Nowhere does it say the "system is fine." nowhere does it say that the system is working properly "but you may want to consider (these services) in the near future to avoid failure." I requested a receipt with a statement of services performed and was told "no". Unprofessional, bold-faced, lies in an attempt to extort money.

Guess I was expecting a more professional looking job labeling my circuit panels than scrawling next to the breakers with a marker. Then they wanted $185.00 to replace a 35 amp breaker with a 25 amp breaker. I thought this was a bit overpriced.

I had been with this company for the last 8 years. I had an annual maintenance agreement with them for $25 a month. After installing my current unit, they came once a year to maintain it...saying the visit was (without agreement) around $295.00 (I can't remember exactly)! WHO CHARGES THAT FOR AN ANNUAL CHECKUP ??? But, what they do is send someone to high-pressure you into purchasing a more expensive plan - and you practically have to kick them out of your house. This last year was the time I canceled the agreement! I got tired of the high-pressure sales pitch! And, they are VERY EXPENSIVE. When I have mentioned the name of their companies, I was laughed out of my house! And, this was without exception! They are very professional (I think) - they come to your house clean and neat and in uniform - they are polite. I believe they are well-trained and are paid a very HIGH SALARY! Several have told me what they make. But I won't use them anymore. With the canceled agreement, I'm sure I could not afford them; and, there are plenty of good air conditioner companies out there that don't charge exhorbatant prices!!! I do believe, however, it is very important to have that annual checkup on your airconditoner and heater! I didn't get it this year because I dropped Jon Wayne, and I had a small problem with the a/c. I have hired another company to do the maintenance (and repairs when they come up). Thank you.

The Provider once he arrived on the advertised service call. After a few cursory minutes came down from my attic, and began the laundry list of items that did not pinpoint the problem...only what the provider would desire you to spend to supposedly fix the problem. When the provider arrived I had a pretty good idea of what the problem was as I had experienced this in another home we owned, and let the provider know exactly what we wanted; but under the (wink, wink) so called service call entered my attic which only lasted a few seconds, then went out to his truck (that lasted about 10 minutes, came back into the back yard took a look at my outside unit, went back up into the attic, came down and began the sales-and options to fix our particular problem He explained that that the original builder failed to included certain items on my outside unit, that we had an "Electrical fault in the dual voltage absorption system (the fancy word for the "can capacitor"!), a mechanical fault in the air reaction system, no super boost compressor switch (the item he stated the original builder failed to include in our system), microbial growth in fan coil (this is cured by just putting a half cup of Clorox in the air handler system (wanted to charge us an arm and a leg for a filter to correct this!) We realized this was not the service call to just fix our system to make it just work, it was an aggressive opportunity for them to load up and charge for items that truly were not needed at that moment, but made to fell that it WAS necessary to remedy the situation. The provider did admit to me when watching him replace the capacitor (that SYSTEM mentioned above) that the majority of calls, his words - 98 percent of the time. are just replacing that capacitor! After he installed this item he went back to his truck for a few minutes. He left his a/c apparatus connected to check the amount of refrigerant in our system. It was then that I told my wife he was going to come back into the house and tell us we need refrigerant!. Behold! he came back in and said that we were two pounds of refrigerant low, and it would cost us $99 a pound to refill (mind you we use 410a!). We refused as thought that the day before our unit was working and cooling very well before it went out. We found it strange that we would have lost that much refrigerant. We already were suspect that it was just a measure to attempt to have at minimum a $500 dollar repair (which we now understand is the goal many HVAC companies strive for...(don't leave until you have at min. that total, or recommend a whole new unit). What we did was subscribe to "Next door" an app that involves our community on selling or recommends service folks. Well we found an independent gentlemen (licensed HVAC), and after explaining what we just went through with Jon Wayne agreed to come by the house and check it out. We were Blessed by finding this gentlemen (and he works for commercial HVAC folks, and agreed that-that is exactly what HVAC companies do....try to up sell homes on A/C items. He determined that I did not need the refrigerant and that it was normal!...mind you Jon Wayne provider said I needed two pounds of refrigerant! Matter of fact when the provider priced the item replaced ( at $297 including the service fee of $29, and supposedly included a military discount and senior discount which we qualified for) the independent service person told us that the item replace really only cost approx at most $40 dollars! Folks you have to beware of what HVAC companies attempt to do...they feel that because your A/C is out; that they have you by the g*****, and gouge you by marking up by 300 percent items that cost much less! I did speak to a supervisor at Jon Wayne; and just followed the company line. Listen folks you pay for the nice van they show up in and their 200 plus employees; then tell you that you qualify for a military discount...Listen! if they charged you only $150 dollars, they are still making profit hand over foot.....on the back of their receipt it claims that "Pop" Rackler the President is all about integrity....they lost that when the provider said I needed refrigerant. It's all about fleecing the public to line their pockets...I understand a business is in it to make a profit..I have no problem with that; but to then provide you a list of items that cost an arm and a leg and not be truthful is another. So BEWARE with Jon Wayne, and any other company.....do some homework, use your neighborhood apps to try and find an individual who IS honest....the person I found even refused to take money until we insisted. He our man from now on for HVAC service...Jon Wayne, and Airtron who installed our system in our Ryland home are both rip-offs....again do some homework and BEWARE! If Jon Wayne wanted to make this right they could at least taken off the service fee (which many HVAC do, and really give the military and senior citizen a truer discount), or lower the price of items that are replaced 98 percent of the time......Again BEWARE and compare and ask what it cost even if you are hot and uncomfortable. We are just Blessed to have found an honest individual who truly cared about us....sorry we did not find em BEFORE the fleece. This critique is also going on Home Advisor...spreading the word so someone else does not go thru this.

I purchased the Angie's List deal for a circuit breaker panel labeling and home electrical inspection from Jon Wayne Electrical on Friday. That afternoon, I was contacted and was able to set up an appointment for the following Monday. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly Jon Wayne was able to schedule an appointment. Jason arrived on Monday morning and proceeded to inspect all the outdoor breaker boxes. He also diagnosed at no additional charge a problem with my pool spa air blower pump that was causing a loud humming noise and he was able to correct the problem. Jason also made some recommendations for extending the life of the breakers since my house is over 20 years old. Jason arranged to come back at 10:00 the next day for the circuit panel labeling since that requires two people and he was alone. The next morning, Jason and James arrived promptly at 10:00 and proceeded to label all the circuit breakers. Both of them were extremely knowledgeable and very professional and a pleasure to deal with. I am exceedingly happy with the service provided and would recommend Jon Wayne Electrical for any electrical need.
Description of Work: Inspected all electrical panels inside and out and labeled the circuit breakers in the indoor panels.
