I made an appointment with Kingdom Flooring for 6/22 at 5:00. I received a call from Fred at 5:30 saying he was running late and wouldn't be there until 6:15. I told him I had something else to do, and wouldn't have time for a late appointment. He asked if we could reschedule for an earlier time to make it easier on him, and I agreed to leave work early on 6/27 to meet him at 4:00. At 4:40, he hadn't shown up and I hadn't received a call from anyone, so I phoned his office. I was told he was in transit, but they didn't know when he would arrive. The receptionist offered to call him, but I told her not to bother. I explained that this was the SECOND time he hadn't shown up as scheduled, and I had left work early just to accommodate him. I gave my $12K job to a flooring company who is respectful of my time. Any contractor who can't exercise professionalism won't be working in my home.

My main reason for writing this review is to strongly encourage everyone to pay attention to the reviews on Angie's List and anywhere else you can find them. Please demand references from anyone you are paying to do work in your home. That is where I went wrong. And it has costs me close to $20,000. That is the cost of what I paid Fred Uddin at Kingdom Flooring and what I have had to pay a reputable contractor to redo and finish the work.
Description of Work: I hired Kingdom Flooring to remodel my master bathroom, as well as a second bathroom and a powder room. What a mistake I made in hiring this company!!!! When I signed the contract, I was told it would be 6-8 weeks to complete all three bathrooms. They came in and tore up the floor in the master bathroom for the plumbing work and left it that way for almost 4 weeks without any further work being done. I sent emails to Fred Uddin asking that he have someone come and, at minimum, clean up while we were waiting for the tub to come in but he ignored my email on that issue. During those 4 weeks, he sent his guys to work on the other two bathrooms. While they did finally "finish" (I use that term very loosely) them, they are not done a level of work that would be considered anywhere near a professional level. Pictures don't lie and I have them to prove what I am saying. When I started sending emails and calling Fred on the lack of progress of the master bath, he said I was being irrational and harassing. He even sent me an email saying that if I sent anything to the BBB or any other site about his company with comments or statements that was misleading or disparaging that he would pursue legal actions to the fullest extent possible. So please believe me when I say that everything stated here is the true account of what happened. Fred did say that it may be an additional 2-3 weeks after the corner tub came in but even with that additional time, the job should have been finished no later than Dec 15th. In our very last phone conversation, Fred said it would be finished by Jan. 31st, 2013 and that I should understand that timeline. He continuously said that he was very, very clear on the timeline and I kept saying that obviously he was not clear since that is not what I understood nor the three other people who were there when any timelines were discussed. And at NO TIME was it stated that it would end up being 16 weeks before the job would be finished. I have made some pretty dumb decisions lately but there is no way I would have signed a contract that would take that long to complete. I ended up having to hire another contractor to come in and redo everything that was done. The little bit that they did throw up on the walls and in the ground for plumbing was completely wrong. The copper pipes for both the hot and cold water were kinked and had to be changed out, the plumber capped off the drain for the sink, the p-trap was improperly installed and they hadn't put up proper lining behind the hardy backer board in the shower. Fred was going to put in a corner toilet and in the initial drawing that seemed okay but in reality it would have been very awkward and did not work at all. When I told him I didn't like it and wanted it moved (to be set straight), he said too bad, that was what I agreed to and he would not change it. There are so many other things that went so wrong in this job but am not sure it makes a difference in taking the time to describe them in detail. But I do have pictures to show most of the problems. And I have Fred's response to my BBB complaint where he states that he made the decision to stop the work AND to not give me my money back. He did say he owed me $970 but I have yet to even see that amount. I do plan to take him to Small Claims Court in the next few weeks to hopefully get some of my money refunded, so we will have to wait and see how that goes.

Response from Kingdom Flooring & Remodeling
Kingdom Flooring and Remodeling was contacted by [member name removed] in October of 2012 and were hired to install a custom master bath and 2 additional baths at her new residence. That project was scheduled to start later that same month. The completion of this project, by industry standards, can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks after receipt of any special order items. We selected and agreed to a very unique product because of the design restraint in her master bath area, that included a corner toilet and a corner tub which had to be special ordered. [member name removed] was presented with a timeline for any and all work relative to her signed contract and [member name removed] agreed to that specific timeline. During the delivery lead time for the special order custom products we moved forward and completed the other two bath areas. The photograph of the tile was a result of instructions given to us as to where to stop the tile which was supposed to be covered by the door molding that was installed by another contractor at a later date. With regard to the picture of the supply line, we left an adjustable trim ring which could not be installed because the painting was not completed (Different contractor). After the rough in for the corner toilet was completed and the toilet delivered she changed her mind with regard to the corner toilet and she was informed and we did not mind redoing the work but there were fees that we had to pay and those would be passed along to her, which included a restocking fee for the toilet and additional labor to change the rough in plumbing. After many harassing emails from [member name removed], we informed [member name removed] that we no longer could tolerate the toxic atmosphere she had created for us. We have been in this business for 16 years and completed many remodels. Our time is far too valuable to deal with such hostility as we have many satisfied repeat customers to attend to. We did charge her for all labor performed and every product that was custom ordered then cancelled by her wishes. Our signed written contract clearly states that we will charge the industry general standard 25% re-stocking fee on all custom materials which are ordered and then cancelled. She was rightfully charged for any and all materials as described in our contract. She knew of her legal and financial responsibilities to us and the law. With regard to her hiring another contractor to finish this project, we had completed all the Electrical & Plumbing rough in work, framing for the new design, all major steps for this project. This project could have been completed by any novice contractor. We were not the only contractors on her property as she did not hire Kingdom to any demolition. She had hired another Contractor (Family Member) to perform the demolition. He and other contractors left the trash about which she has complained and pictured. We were not legally responsible for any other hired contractor’s residue, trash or work. She has managed to blur the fine lines of our responsibilities and of our work ethic according to our signed contract. We wished only to complete the project for which we were hired according to her signed agreement. We believe Kingdom Flooring and Remodeling has lived up to our end of that agreement. We have forwarded all correspondence and contracts to our legal department. We have refunded the appropriate amount after all adjustments for labor and materials that were used at this client’s property including all re-stocking fees that are the responsibility of the client based on the signed contract. Respectfully, Kingdom flooring & remodeling

Description of Work: Kingdom Flooring & Rugs has a retail store front in Plano, where I went when shopping for engineered hardwood floors. Sales person was helpful and followed up promptly with a phone call on questions I had, however the store itself seemed small. Looks to be a good place to look for rugs as well. Owner was very knowledgeable, professional and interested in my job. Once I select my floors I will give them an oppty to bid on the job, however I do not plan to install my floors for another six months or so.

Wonderful experience from beginning to finish! Had the same contact throughout all the work. Very responsive to questions/concerns. The sales guy was also great at recommending colors/styles. Actually a pleasant experience!
