The estimate for demo of old damper, installation of new damper, installing a chimney cap + cost of chimney cap (albeit a very nice one) was $1800-2200. I was a little overwhelmed and said I needed to talk it over with the family and let him know. he was very nice about it, recommended getting other bids for the work, and then departed. My husband then went up on the roof, looked down the flue and said it was basically pristine, that there was not any soot or dirt he could see. He then came down, used some WD 40 and elbow grease and got the damper working just fine. So we proceeded with installation of our fireglass and the fireplace works great. I called the company to ask about at least getting a partial refund since no work was actually performed, just an estimate. The owner Tony called me back and I explained the situation and he was great, he said he was going to send me a check for the voucher price and he apologized for any miscommunication. I told him the service guy was really nice, but that he ended up not cleaning anything and Tony was very understanding. I very much appreciate high quality customer service, and if I had chimney/fireplace needs againI would call him..
Description of Work: I purchased an Angie's List voucher for chimney cleaning and safety inspection. Scheduling was easy, and the service technician gave a courtesy call before coming over at scheduled time. He was on time. He was very personable and nice. He asked what I was looking for with regards to visit. I said I wanted the chimney to be cleaned and inspected so we could then replace our gas logs with fireglass. He went to the fireplace, tugged on the damper handle a few times and informed me it was most likely broken in a half open, half closed position. He then explained he could not clean it without a properly working damper, and that it would be a week before a new damper could be ordered and received. He then went outside and inspected the chimney and about 45 minutes later had an estimate for work proposed.

The good news is that the possum was captured and removed unharmed from my house within about 20 minutes. When the technician hadn't arrived by noon, I called again and they followed up with the technician. He then arrived about 10 minutes later. After assessing the situation (the possum was asleep under the bed), he told me he was hesitant to try to capture him (isn't that what they do as wildlife specialists?), because the animal would try to get away from him. He wanted to leave a trap in my bedroom overnight and have me call them when the animal was safely in the cage. This would cost me $250. After some insistence, he agreed to try to get the possum while he was there. I couldn't imagine living with a possum in my home while I was sleeping that night! It took him about 10-15 minutes and he had the animal in the cage. He had to call the office to find out how much that would cost. The office finally called him back and told him to charge me $200. I should have asked for a price when I called that morning, but was in a bit of a panic at the time. Bottom line - I think it was a bit pricey and I was disappointed at the technician's reluctance to help me while he was there. But.....no more possum, and the pet door will be closed at night from now on!
Description of Work: A possum had gotten into my house (possibly through the pet door) and was found under the bed in my guest bedroom. I called the company at 7:30 a.m. to find out if they could come and retrieve the (live) animal. I was told they would arrive between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., and that the technician would call 30 minutes before arrival.

I wasn’t there, my wife walked around when they were doing the survey and they were very thorough. From the feedback I had from my wife I would probably give them a very high rating. They were doing a detailed inspection and giving details on how to keep control of any wild life around the area.

Great. Jack took his time, was very conscientious about damage and cleaning up afterwards, and was very humane and caring about the baby raccoons. He checked in afterwards to let me know the babies were doing ok, and he came back a few days later to patch the hole in the siding after we were sure we weren't hearing the mother raccoon in the walls any more. Even though the original technician's assessment about squirrels turned out to be wrong, they were very responsive to get out there on the weekend, and we had the problem correctly assessed and resolved two days later.
Description of Work: They came to the house on a Saturday (the same day we called) to diagnose animal sounds we were hearing in the wall. The first technician thought it was squirrels and scheduled another technician to come on Monday and install a one-way exit in the hole in our siding to let them exit but not return. When the second technician, Jack, arrived on Monday, he listened again to the description of what we were hearing, and where, compared to where the hole was. He correctly diagnosed that there were baby raccoons nested between our drywall and chimney (in part because he made raccoon sounds, and they responded to him). He was very good about offering and recommending various options, and we eventually decided to cut a small hole in the drywall, where he was able to pull them out. The price listed above ($315) was a $350 service with a 10% Angie's List discount.

Great. The specialist arrived on time and ready to work. He designed a trap that allowed egress for baby squirrels and made reentry impossible. The opening was in an area of the roof hard to access but he diligently worked until he was able to cover the hole. He answered my questions and provided me with advice. He was at my home for about 2 hours and never stopped working. He also checked my whole roof for additional entries made by rodents and my attic for damages and any abandoned babies. I was very impressed and pleased with his service.
Description of Work: Specialist fabricated a mesh cover for a small opening into my attic which rodents were using to access my attic.

We started smelling something nasty above my 1yo daughters bedroom on Thursday. Despite my best attempts I couldn't anything in the attic. I called these guys Friday morn rather desperate. I spoke with Tony who said they were really booked but that he understood the urgency and would find a way to get his guy over there same day.Throughout the day I got updates from Tony on an ETA. Jack arrived at 5pm on friday, apologetic for the delay. (what other company happily sends a guy over at 5pm on a friday).Jack spent almost two hours in a hot, cramped attic, crawling around and breathing fiberglass. Finally at almost 7pm he emerged with a dead squirrel that had burrowed down in insulation under an ac unit. It was horrible, awful work and jack did it with a smile on his face and even stayed a while after to analyze how it may have gotten into there. Best $150 I ever spent. I have since used this firm again for a LIVE squirrel in the house and they were equally good. If you have an animal problem - dead or alive. Call these guys first!
Description of Work: Fantastic Company! One of my favorite Contractors ever! Found and removed dead squirrel in attic. I'd like to nominate these guys for a Super Service award.

I had squirrels in my attic (mother and a nest). Chimney and Wildlife Specialists came out and checked the attic, found where the squirrels were building the nest, and gave me my options. I chose to have a 1-way door installed leading from the attic to the outside. The mother came out first and after several days finally convinced the children in some way to come out. Squirrels gone and attic free of wildlife!

I heard loud noises in my attic each morning and contacted this company because 1) they were highly rated on Angie's List and 2) they are a "humane" animal removal service. I spoke with the company representative around 9am and was informed he could send someone out the same day between 11am and 1pm. I was informed there was no charge to have someone come out and investigate and I would be given an estimate after they determined the cause of the problem (squirrels, rats, etc.). Omar, the company representative arrived between 11 and 11:30, as promised. He looked all around the attic and around the outside of the house. It was determined that I didn't have a critter problem and there were no openings in my attic for any to get in. He explained that the noise was probably due to the water heater being in the attic. And true to their word, I wasn't charged for this service. I was overall impressed with the professionalism, punctuality, and most of all the honesty of this company. Although I didn't require their services this time, I wouldn't hesitate to contact them if needed for animal removal. I highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: I contacted this company to investigate what I thought was a problem with squirrels, rats or some other critter in my attic. The technician inspected my attic and the exterior roof line of my house.

Tony gave me a quote over the phone and explained that it is common for birds to live in chimneys at this time of year. He can remove them but if the chimney is left uncovered they will return very quickly. He also explained that the cap protects your house from rain entering into the chimney. He evicted the birds one Tuesday and returned the following Tuesday to install the cap. He did make sure there were no baby birds involved before getting them out.
