After using several other sprinkler companies in the Houston area I finally found one I can recommend. They show up on time and perform the service in a timely manner. I am very happy with Taylor Irrigation and they will be the only sprinkler company I will use in the future.
Description of Work: We propose converting (5) heads from 4" models to 6" models so they stand taller than the turf allowing them to spray without being impeded, capping (1) head and replacing (2) nozzles on zone five, capping (1) head and converting (1) riser to a spray head on zone six, capping (2) heads and converting (2) risers to spray heads on zone seven, and replacing (1) nozzle on zone eight. You may also want to consider a rain sensor as the amount of rain we have had this year would have allowed the sensor to pay for itself.

The rep came out and reviewed my sprinkler system without notifying me and after I had to follow up with them to find out his evaluation , received an email telling me all the things that were wrong - although, he was unclear about one a problem with one of the zones. He gave a repair estimate of approximately $500 - $600 in addition to the $99 initial charge. I am unaware of whether that included fixing the questionable zone or not. I called a previous sprinkler repairman who came out and fixed the system for a total of $199.00. (He also solved the Zone 10 issue.)
Description of Work: Came out and reviewed my sprinkler system (without calling me in advance to meet them).

[member name removed], Thank you for the feedback and I apologize for your experience with Taylor Irrigation. I think there is a bit of confusion here and I will do my best to help resolve that. My records show: You purchased a tune-up on July 1st for $99. On July 2 you were set up on the schedule for the morning of July 8th. We were asked to call in route. July 8 we called in route but there was no answer and there was no one at the house when we arrived. You were rescheduled for July 14. You agreed to leave the garage door open for access and we arrived on time and performed the system tune-up as per the purchase. July 16 my service manager sent your tune-up report and an estimate. All of this work, both in the office as well as in the field, seemed to go the way we would like it to go. Our scope of work was as follows: We propose raising the PVB three feet and reducing the height of (4) risers which are too tall. This will bring the system up to state code requirements. Next we will rewire the box to ensure everything is connected correctly and is at no risk of causing a short. Following that we will replace (2)1804 with two 1812, raise (3) heads, and replace (1) nozzle on zone two. Next, we will swap (1) 1804 to an 1812 on zone three. Zone four needs (4) nozzles changed from 360 to 180 and (3) drip manifolds installed with drip stakes as needed to cover the raised planters. Next, zone seven needs (3) nozzles replaced. Zone eight needs (1) 1804 swapped to an 1812 and (1) riser swapped to an 1812. On zone nine we will repair (1) lateral leak in the back flower bed and straighten (1) head. The last zone, zone ten, is not responding from the control. We will Ohm this station at the control to determine the most likely issue and follow up with you. The cost for this work was listed at $560.00 and we never heard back from you. If you had someone else on site take care of work for less that is great for you. I would be willing to bet my pay check next week that the backflow issue (a state and local code violation) was not addressed and that the backflow device did not have the mandatory state inspection after the work was performed because that inspection alone costs between $75 and $125 (you mentioned spending less than $200 with your old contractor). I would ask that you be very careful with skirting code on the backflow device because the sole purpose of that device is to protect your family's tap water from contaminants on the lawn (things like pesticides, fertilizers, fungicides and animal droppings). That is not something you want to take likely as it puts your family's health at risk. I would also note that if your contractor ignored code that it is a class C misdemeanor and is not something to take lightly. In the end, I assure you that the work you had another company perform was not the complete scope of work that we listed here so I am not sure it is appropriate to compare costs. We are thorough and we cost more because of that. We are not for everyone and if you are looking to cut corners and save a buck then indeed you are correct that you are better off with one of your former irrigation contractors. I would submit that this contractor is not the best contractor if he is familiar with your site but has not pointed out or corrected the code issues that threaten your water supply and existed on site long before we arrived. I would also submit that you mentioned the estimate was $700 (it was $560) and also that your review reports that you spent $700 (you only spent $99). We wish you well with your old contractor. [Member name removed], I am sorry to hear about your experience. I just got involved with this today and after reading over your correspondence with us, here is what I understand: 1. You purchased a tune-up on Angie's List that explains in detail what it includes and what it does not include. 2. You were contacted by us on the same day you made the purchase so as to get you onto the schedule for service. 3. Your follow up email included no questions at all. You gave us your service address and asked for confirmation of the appointment. 4. You then sent an email saying you decided that you really needed more than just a tune-up and that you were going to request a refund. 5. We replied with an email thanking you for letting us know about your decision. And for that we have earned an F? We would have been more than happy to take care of any additional work besides the tune-up had you requested it but we have no such request. Again, I apologize for your experience but I am not sure what else we could have done here. We wish you well with your project. John A. Taylor President, Taylor Irrigation Service

They were great. Walked my husband through the system and recommended upgrades for a more efficient job to better water our lawn and flower gardens. Plus finding and fixing the leak!
Description of Work: I would definitely use this company again. They were very professional. I took advantage of the special offered by Angie's List to have my sprinkler system checked. They found a leak in our sprinkler system and repaired. We had major water issues in our yard and the leak was the cause. Highly recommend.

I originally purchased an Angie's List Deal for a Sprinkler System Audit ($200). The Office Manager at Taylor Irrigation promptly reached out to confirm some contact details, and scheduling the appointment was quick, courteous and professional. On the day of my appointment the Technician arrived on time. I was present because I wanted to see what he was doing, be proactive in understanding his recommendations, and in general to learn more about my own sprinkler system. After a brief discussion about the nature of our concerns/needs, the Technician suggested that what we really needed was a "Tune Up" as opposed to the more fulsome "Audit" which we'd already paid for. This was essentially the opposite of an upsell - a vendor telling you what you actually need, as opposed to seeing how much they can get you to buy. The Technician was patient with me and allowed me to tag along for the approximate 1.5 hours he was on site, testing our system, adjusting sprinkler heads, adjusting the timers and showing me how it all works together. I appreciated his time and willingness to tutor me, instead of just wanting to get his part of the job done. After the Technician left, we promptly received via email (1) a System Tune Up Report and (2) confirmation that the difference between the Audit we'd already paid for ($200) and the cost of the Tune Up ($99) would be refunded to us. We received a check for $101 in the mail within a couple working days. From start to finish and with a great amount of integrity in between, we were very happy with Taylor Irrigation, will use them again, and won't hesitate to recommend them to others.

I came across Taylor Irrigation when they ran a special for tuning up a sprinkler system. I had just purchased this house in the winter and had not been able to get the system up and running properly. When I looked these guys up, I was particularly pleased with the overall comments/ratings by past customers and took note of the professional way they handled the sole dissatisfied customer. I knew I had some issues with my system when zones ran immediately upon opening the main sprinkler valve by the house. I also had areas of the yard (over an acre) that did not have sprinkler coverage. Brad was my main contact on site and really took a look at the issues we had - he spent several hours there with his crew. He was able to identify the issues, which were not inexpensive to fix. Brad and John (the owner) answered all my questions and were able to resolve all my issues, which included adding two new valves to run the areas where they system always ran, being able to resolve the getting of power to the zones that were not working properly (which saved me almost $800) and installing a new control to run the extra zones. There is no doubt in my mind that they worked extremely hard to get me the best price available given the circumstances. I must have had 6-8 follow up questions to their proposed solutions as this was not my area of expertise ? John handled each one personally and professionally. I still have to re-zone the area where we are currently building a pool, and I will definitely be using them for this work.

He arrived on time and did his diagnosis. He adjusted sprinkler heads and set 2 programs in my system. He said I just needed a couple of things repaired and he would send an email in 3-4 days detailing everything. I have never heard from him. Also, I think the watering times are excessive, we will see in time.

[Member Name], Thank you for the follow up. I apologize for your experience and hope to help clear a few things up with this follow-up. I show that your tune-up report and estimate was emailed on June 21 at 9:50 am to the email address that you provided. I would recommend that you take a look in your spam or bulk mail folder as we sometimes make it into those folders for whatever the reason. That would have been an appropriate response time after visiting your site and I certainly apologize that you did not receive it. A simple phone call or email could have quickly cleared that up. In terms of your watering times; we do not use rules of thumb or old wives tales to set irrigation run times. Plants have definitive water needs based on a scientific equation called evapotranspiration (or ET). Your controller was set in accordance with this equation and these settings will be good for the middle of the summer only. Schedule based controllers, like yours, need to be changed to match current seasonal conditions quite often. For instance; St. Augustine turf requires 1" of water per week, in our market, in full sunlight, this time of the year. It is a warm season turf and it goes dormant during the off season when we drop to fifty-five degrees regularly overnight and does not need to be watered again until we come above that. Settings for this kind of warm season turf peak this time of year, drop to nothing during the off season and see something in between as the weather changes between now and then. There is a great deal of misinformation about sprinkler run-times out there, amongst both homeowners as well as irrigation contractors. We build our reputation on water conservation as I am one of five irrigation designers in the United States to receive the EPA's Partner of the Year Award in 2013 for my efforts in water conservation. I lecture on the subject of water conservation and was the keynote speaker for Austin Water and the Lady Bird Johnson Wild Flower Center in Austin earlier this year. We would never encourage the use of water that was not needed. Your review referred to "he" quite often. We are a company and there are a great many technicians that are employed by us. The tech that was on your site, Brian Saludis, is a fully licensed irrigation contractor. I hope this information helps. Again, a simple phone call or email mentioning any of this would have put us in a position to help but we were not afforded that opportunity. We certainly wish you well with future projects. John A. Taylor evaluated all of the existing irrigation zones and the plants they watered. The zones were then modified to work with plants with similar water requirements (shade loving plants, flowers, grass were all given their own zones). A new efficient smart controller was installed that works with existing weather records to modify watering times and amounts based on the time of the year ,precipitation, etc. All of the plants are now very healthy over the entire yard . I would highly recommend Taylor to anyone , and will definitely continue to use them in the future.

[member name removed], We certainly appreciate the feedback. One of the things that I personally look forward to the most is working with a client when something does not go right. In my experience that is what separates the great companies from the rest. There is no way to eliminate all problems or mistakes so the true character of a company really shows when dealing with problems. I appreciate the review and it is this kind of review that we are most proud of here at Taylor Irrigation because it is jobs like this that can easily go either way and I think a lot of companies or contractors out there do not realize just how much control of that they really have. Thank you for the follow up, it means a lot. John A. Taylor

Had some sprinkler issues and with my sisters help found Taylor Irrigation on Angies List. Even though there were some delays due to weather and a few communication issues I am glad I waited for Taylor Irrigation Services to do the repairs and work on my sprinkler system . They listened to what my issues and needs were, made recommedations to resolve the problems. They explained the work to be performed and completed it in a professional manner. As a woman maintaining a home it was nice NOT to be talked to like I didn't understand the work. I try to do repairs on my own and this was beyond my scope of expertise...lol. I will contact them again and have recommended them to others.

Taylor Irrigation came and made the needed repairs. The serviceman even set my control panel for me at the correct water levels. I had not been watering enough in some areas. I also explained to him what I felt about the second service call when I felt one call should have handled it all. I did not expect to hear back anything back nor did I ask to be contacted or for any adjustments to be made. In short order, I received an e-mail from the company explaining why two service calls were needed. The e-mail was detailed, professional and polite. On top of that, I was credited for a rotor they installed - $32.50 and $49.50 from the tune up was applied towards my bill as well. I find John Taylor's efforts to please his customers remarkable. I am more than pleased with the work and how I was treated.
Description of Work: They did a yearly inspection. He found some heads to replace because coverage was incorrect or they broken. One head to cap. |When I asked for an earlier a appointment they said they were so booked like it was a surprise to them. I did not appreciate that since it is a given their business will increase when a special like that is run. |I would much prefer that they had fixed what they found when they were there. Any savings I received I feel was lost when I had to make a second appointment to fix what they recommended.

[member name removed], I appreciate the feedback and felt that I explained this to you in as much as you replied saying that it made sense and that you understood. The tune up that you purchased says very plainly on it "does not include repairs" so it should not come as a shock that it "does not include repairs." Had you requested repairs when you made the appointment we may have been able to accommodate that request but when we schedule a tech we have to know how much time to schedule him for and since he was out there for a tune-up, we allotted the amount of time that a tune-up takes. Let me also be clear to all potential clients: There are good reasons for not conducting repairs while on site for a maintenance check (which is what a tune-up is). It would be irresponsible to move forward with repairs without a "scope of work" and a "cost" for that scope, in writing. Taking the time to do that protects both the homeowner as well as the contractor by ensuring that there is transparency and that there are no surprises. A client would be well within their rights to say, "I am not going to pay for work I did not authorize" or "I did not expect this to be so much, I will not pay it." Also, there are a great many clients that want to see the damage first. They will get our report and walk through the itemized list of damage when they have time. Many clients are do-it-yourselfers and will tackle smaller repairs (like a broken nozzle or a damaged head) themselves. When we come out for a tune-up we are doing exactly what the tune-up is described as and for very good reason. My suggestion for all clients is to know what you need when you call any irrigation contractor and if you do not know what you need then ask for a free estimate so that you will. John A. Taylor

The entire experience was handled professionally and with concern for my time. The estimate I received for the repairs was fair but the work was completed earlier than estimated and the final invoice was $50 less than the estimate. The office manager was available to me via email and responded promptly within a day. The repair technician came on-time, went right to work, and had the system operating as promised. This was a great repair experience and I highly recommend Taylor Irrigation. Truly, a fair man quoting and living up to a fair price.

It was very good. They brought a nice crew out, they all have uniforms on. There is something blocking that they had not found previously, I think it broke in between times. They fixed it with no charge and it was an expensive part. But he said that since we had a crew out there anyway, he would just go ahead and do it for free. It was a $125 part that they basically gave me for free. I definitely use them again. I really like their service better than the coupon. Our little community, The Woodlands, basically did the same thing for free, but the person who did the inspection they never got back to me with an estimate that’s why I need to buy the coupon. I was very pleased with their service.
