I needed to replace my 12 year old water heater, so I called Home Depot and within about 15 minutes had spent $1100 on a new electric 50-gallon GE water heater with installation and a filter. If anything didn't fit right plumbing-wise, that was going to be another $150 extra, and the stand I needed to raise the water heater to get it up to code would be another $150 (not included in the $1100), but they were going to do it the next day at my convenience. When they showed up two hours late, they didn't have the filter and they stated that I should already have it. I asked them how I should have it as I had ordered and paid for everything by telephone. It was obvious they just realized when they arrived I had ordered one. So they did nothing, left and said someone would call me between 8 and 10 the next day to reschedule. At 11:30 I got a call saying they would be out between 6 and 9 PM that Friday night. I canceled the whole thing and had to argue to not be charged the $75.
Description of Work: No work was performed because the plumbers showed up 2 hours late and without the whole house filter I had ordered, so they left and said I could reschedule for the next day and not to worry they would try to not charge me the $75 trip fee for them having to come back! They could have run to Home Depot (10 minutes away) and gotten the filter and returned, but instead they wanted to reschedule for the next day. Must have been a football game on or something, and they tried to blame me for not having the filter already, when there was no way I would have it having ordered everything by phone. VERY unprofessional.

Sad to say, this was a typical Home Depot experience: no sales staff when & where they were needed, & then uninformed staff when they were found. It shouldn't be this difficult to spend $800.
Description of Work: I needed a new water heater installed. I went to a new Home Depot in Spring Valley. There was no one in the water heater department. I found someone in another department, who agreed to try to sell me a water heater or find someone who could do so. Back in the water heater department, a now on-duty staff member said he wasn't the best person to talk to, I should go to the person at the Pro desk up front for the best information. I went home instead.
