Big Edd's Doors

Called in the morning on Monday to make appointment for Tuesday. Technicians arrived in the 11-1 appointment window. I mentioned I had to leave by 2. They were able to take down the non-functioning opener and replace it with a new one that included sensors and program the remotes to also work with a different opener. They did all this in 1 hour. They were polite and professional. They even changed both openers' light bulbs for me. It was a very humid 93 degree day and they didn't dawdle at all but got the work done in great time and made sure I understood how it all worked and functioned properly. I tested everything and was very happy with the work.

I was able to get them to come out quickly when I needed them and the price was very reasonable. The installer was friendly, professional, and spoke with the contractor to make certain they were in agreement as to what needed to be done for this particular situation. He advised me to call them when I am ready for the reinstall and I have no doubt it will be done quickly, as it always has been in the past. We have used Big Edd's for all of our garage door issues over the past years and have always been very pleased with the service.

Horrible, shoddy job of installing, ridiculously unprofessional and surly attitude. First, he said he couldn't possibly work without charging me to move the minor things in the garage; a lawn chair and BBQ grill. (The siding company guys who were working on my house moved the stuff for free.) Second, the garage door didn't fit properly and he left it that way. It was gaping at the top. (The other guys simply raised a portion of the garage ceiling so it would fit. They were wonderful.) Third, I didn't need an automatic opener, but then he didn't install a handle, so there was no way to open the door from the outside. After weeks went by, he finally returned while I was at work and installed the cheapest handle possible, about 10 inches to the right of center, which has now ruined the appearance of all the new work that we had done because it looks so shoddy and haphazard. I had specifically asked for a locking handle attached to the sliding locks so I could open from the outside, but he installed a basic lift handle at the bottom, so we still have to go in through the side door to lock and unlock, rendering the outside handle meaningless. My husband said he showed up chewing on a cigar butt the whole time with a rude and abrupt attitude. Given the symmetrical panels on the door with a clear vertical line down the middle, we can't imagine how he missed putting it on the center, unless he just did it on purpose because he was angry that I had complained about him to the siding company folks who had originally contracted him. All in all, I would definitely NOT recommend this vendor. (It is my understanding the siding company won't be using him anymore, either.) See the photo, at the top where it doesn't really fit, but the siding company guys fixed the structure inside and outside so it now looks nice, including the red paint. See the handle, cheap and way off center.

Big Ed returned my call right away and stopped by to give an estimate. His prices were quite good and he explained the procedure for taking the door apart. He scheduled the repair and showed up on time. He brought in his tools, took the doorframe apart, patched it, and put the doorframe back together. He did a really good job and cleaned up all the mess.
