Appalling! Salesman was very pleasant and thorough when he took a personal inventory of my home. Special boxes/crates would be provided for my two flat screen TVs and some large paintings. I received a quotation in writing that seemed reasonable compared to some phone quotes with other companies. I was advised that they wouldn't remove paintings or TV screens from walls so had to hire handyman to carefully remove TVs and disconnect them. Moving crew arrived on time to pack. They were careful with breakables and finished on time. I provided cold drinks to the crew. They did not have boxes for flat screen TVs. I was under the impression that the packed furniture would be moved that night and stored in the moving van for an early start next day. That didn't happen. Packed and taped furniture remained in the house overnight. Perhaps a misunderstanding on my part - I let it go. Crew arrived early next morning. They were unprofessional, noisy (it was early a.m.) and the supervisor wanted to discuss his personal wife/girlfriend problems and seemed interested in my marital status. I provided pizza lunch and cold drinks. They still had no box for my TVs and suggested I transport them in the back of my small car. I refused and tried to reach my salesman or supervisor via phone. No-one was available for me. I pressed them to pack my TVs properly and got "attitude." Eventually one man made up a box with pieces of cardboard taped together and assured me he would personally hold it in the truck. They had misjudged the size of truck needed and instead of doing it in one trip, we were required to do it in two. They refused to take toll roads (quickest route) and instead took twice as long on back roads. During the journey, a metal floor lamp was broken in half. My dining table was assembled incorrectly and I had to hire a handy man to put it together properly (two pieces). After a couple of month of almost daily phone calls, they picked up my broken lamp and managed to fix it after I initiated a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
Description of Work: Packing and moving furniture and some personal effects from typical 3-bedroomed single story house, across town (Houston) to another typical 3-bedroomed single story house.

This is certainly a concern even over one year after the fact. It also requires some research, which we have done. Perhaps this time lag has affected the memory of the facts. The estimate was a “not to exceed” quote of $2,500.00. The job was completed and total charges amounted to $2,341.00. Therefore, the $3,500.00 mentioned is some arbitrary figure unfounded in fact. As to the efficiency of the crew, they did in fact forget the TV boxes, yet were able to construct TV boxes and move perfectly at no charge. We do not in fact remove or install wall hangings. Perhaps, buy being under estimate, this client actually saved money by taking two trips as needed, rather than pay for the second truck all day. This is common, and we suggest this when viable. The damaged floor lamp was brought back to our warehouse after the move on Saturday, by the driver, who explained we would take care of it without the typical process in claim procedures. Again, “daily phone calls and two months” seem to be a memory fault, as it was tendered to the repair shop on the Monday after the move, then fixed and delivered perfectly by our sales person within ten days. As per TxDOT regulations, filed claims have 20 days to be responded to and 90 days to be decided upon. Our immediate actions in relation to this matter clearly illustrate our commitment to customer satisfaction.

I waited until now to submit my report to make absolutely sure that everything was intact and not broken then hidden as some movers will do. This is an exceptional moving company in my opinion.
Description of Work: Exceptional service. Period. I've done a lot of moves and am always wary of movers in general but they scheduled the move, showed up on time, packed up all my things, and delivered them intact to the new location.

They were extremely friendly. They put us to ease. The leader was Manny. They were very efficient. We had one little bit of damage. That wasn't during the move. It was during the reinstallation of the mirror on our dresser in our new home. Manny out of his own pocket had it restored for us so you really can't even tell that the wood around the mirror was damaged.

Renee was a lot of help when trying to schedule and get an estimate. She was kind and outgoing. The movers showed up two and a half hours later than anticipated. There was a slight language barrier, too. Communication was not cornerstone of this move, to say the least. BUT, the guys worked very hard and moved several very heavy items upstairs. We even had a sofa that they hauled upstairs and it wouldn't fit through the doorway to the bedroom, so it had to come back downstairs. :-( There was one mark left on the wall from moving a pinball machine upstairs. I didn't ask the company to do anything about this because I think it will come off with a magic eraser. Moving is so expensive, and hiring movers by the hour is so hard because it is so easy to feel like they aren't moving fast enough. I am not sure this was the most efficient crew, but they weren't too bad. All in all, they got the job done. And that's all we could really ask for.
Description of Work: The moving crew moved all of the large/heavy furniture/appliances from a 3 bedroom house into a 6 bedroom two-story home approximately 15 minutes away.

I chose this company because of the glowing reports and because they were listed in the piano moving category. Good: they were able to move us at almost a last minute request, polite workers, worked hard, office staff caught a small over-charge and refunded it. Concerns: several people from the company called the day after we arranged the service and it seemed like there was so much confusion over who was supposed to call me and about what that I finally asked if they were paid on commission -- contact is a good thing, but I was at work and it was disorganized. They asked me how big a truck I needed. I had no idea what kind of trucks there are, so I described what I needed to move. Fortunately, they were able to send over an employee to evaluate what we had. Piano moving ... no special equipment, just strong men and wrapping. I basically held my breath. Overall decent experience. I might or might not use this company again; I would do more research into piano moving.

This, obviously, included men with enough experience to handle the delicacy of the piano move without a hitch. We will never, no matter the urgency, use “emergency” temporary labor, and can often come through for clients with such short notice. Our series of confirmation checks by the office staff and the dispatcher are used to ensure he accuracy of tasks to be handled.

Renee provided great service throughout the process. The estimate was easy to understand. The moving boxes and packing materials arrived a month early as requested. One crew moved cubicle panels and assembled them in the new location two weeks early. The actual move date was June 4. The crew showed up 15 minutes early. The lead explained the order and how the printers and glass furniture tops would be packed, and then the crew started. One office building had only a hydro-lift from the basement to the ground level and the other had a regular loading dock. Great service by both the cubicle crew and the moving crew.
Description of Work: We needed to move offices in downtown Houston. As requested, they provided packing materials a month early and assembled cubicle panels two weeks before the actual move. On the scheduled day, the movers packed, loaded, and unloaded office furniture and equipment, as well as the boxes packed before the move.

This is the WORST HOUSTON mover! I moved the blocks in downtown Houston and the move cost me twice what any move has ever cost! I used them based on their advertised "high rise moving firm" and they could not move a roach out of a matchbox! The crew could not read labeled boxes, ie master bedroom ended up in office! MOVERS CANNOT READ ENGLISH and DO NOT LISTEN TO DIRECTIONS! WHAT IS USE OF HIRING A FIRM TO MOVE IF THEY PUT CONTENTS IN WRONG ROOMS CAUSING YOU TO REMOVE THE ITEMS PAID to HAVE MOVED! USELESS BS! Directions: I had two carts full of items to be put in my auto for transportation, ie MAC computer, printer, plants, fragile items and I pointed this out initially with DO NOT TOUCH instructions. Hour later, the crew chief has the OFF LIMIT CARTS loading them up! My MAC COMPUTER W/O BOX being loaded, I was ANGRY IMMEDIATELY and the wheels fell off after that show of ignorance. They brought plastic to wrap furniture and NEVER WRAPPED ONE ITEM and messed up focal pieces really bad! I have seagrass barstools, focal point of a DT Loft, and they are not remotely brand new after a move of ten blocks! Movers lost the ONE box of cabinet items, LAUNDRY SUPPLIES WAS LOST, I let them carry for me as I carried all cabinet items myself so that clean up could be done. My $65 worth of laundry cleaning supplies ALL CAME UP MISSING. I replaced those yesterday thus the price is very fresh. I had equestrian items that also came up missing and they were the very last item moved from my loft to move truck and I never saw them again! I have two riding crops for horse riding and they are not in new location and they are costly items to replace but my riding lesson last week with w/o crops! The CS rep was great, high energy and great telephone voice but to have spent $750 moving ten blocks, have $300 worth of furniture destroyed, a riding crop, valued at $155 10 years ago, come up missing and the $70 worth of laundry supplies lost means this move cost me $1200! THIS MOVER IS THE WORST IN HOUSTON, TX! If I had a complaint like this, with pictures provided, any decent provider of such a service would discount the fees paid and refund to me the cost of my move or a portion of the wasted money spent.
Description of Work: I called five movers to obtain specifics. This firm stood out as they claimed to be High Rise Mover oriented. I lined them up two weeks before scheduled move. They were one hour late to arrive. They showed up and I took them to unit to be moved and showed them and spoke to them as to what items were to be moved by me personally. I expected the move to take three hours out and two in but it was more like six total. I provided lunch, Subway 12" sandwiches, beverages and drinks with a bottle of water during move. The moving firm is a professional and are hired to perform specific duties. THis firm was a half a** firm who the guys move as they have no other skills of which they can earn a living, my pov.

Under normal circumstances this comment would receive our utmost attention. In this case, however, the absurdity merely merits acknowledgment. It is rare, however, part of business to have clients who, after the fact, try to use these venues to re-coup their costs by slander and threats. Upon Investigation we have discovered the following issues regarding this move; A supervisor and crew, who have been working at A better Tripp for nine years, were assigned to this move. This crew is responsible for 22.6% of the ensuring praises listed on Angie's List. They have never had a complaint as to their professionalism, English skills, or efficiency. It is not likely that a drastic change in their operations would occur randomly. The move was scheduled between 12 and 3 pm, they arrived at 1:00 PM, as signed in by the client. At 1:30 the crew chief called in to explain that the client was under the influence of mind altering substances and that she was bombarding them with contradictory instructions and did not feel as though we should be involved with this move. Our Operations Manager instructed the crew chief to do the best that he could and complete the task no matter the circumstances. The usual professional wrapping of all items occurred at the origin apartment, and the three men negotiated elevators and delivery in 5.5 hrs charging a total of $715.00. (.5 hrs more than the expected "three hours out and two in") In regards to the miscommunication over what items were to be loaded and what were to be moved by the shipper, our crew was being given alternative instructions and working with blaring music. Regarding any damage claims, we will, as with anyone, follow the contracted procedures and resolutions The shipper signed a comment form at the end of the move indicating all was excellent and emphasized it with a happy face. We can hardly heed an obvious attempt at slander for the mere sake of refunds.

Renee was professional to deal with from start to finish.
Description of Work: I had hired A Better Tripp to move my staging items from my house that had recently sold. Literally as I pulled up with the movers there, the contract fell through for lender requirements. Renee and her group were a class act and didn't charge me the total costs (nothing had been moved yet), and only charged me a trip charge. I plan to use them to move my furniture and have recommended to my friends to use them in the future.

The company did an excellent job. All fragile items were well wrapped and boxed, all furniture was securely wrapped in blankets and then plastic wrap before it left the house. Nothing was broken or damaged. They placed all the furniture in our house which included carrying a very large and heavy amoire upstairs. The entire job was completed one day. The price included full coverage insurance (no deductible), but it wasn't needed since nothing was damaged in the move. I was very happy with their service. I would highly recommend this company if you have moving needs.
Description of Work: Moved from Houston, Tx to San Antonio, TX (approximately 210 miles) the contents of one and one-half bedrooms, a dining room with large pieces of furniture including large china cabinet, and a large buffet with a marble top, dining room table with 6 chairs, a grandfather clock, an upright piano, several upholstered chairs, 2 large decorative wall mirrors and several crystal base lamps. There may have been more items, but that was most of what was moved.

The experience was excellent, and we highly recommend them.
Description of Work: My wife and I moved the contents of a four bedroom house. They sent two trucks, and were very helpful. Nothing was broken in the move, and they were very careful with everything. The price was a bit high, but honestly I would rather pay for quality. Our move was short, but they told us that they specialize in long distance moves. I would certainly trust them again for another move.

We had an estimate for 3 movers for 3 hours. They showed up on time and moved at a fair pace, I never thought they were wasting time. The move ended up taking 4 1/2 hours and $100-150 more than expected. They were curteous and asked where we wanted items, nothing was damaged. I just wished it wouldn't have taken so long. Although may be it was our fault, 95% of our boxes were medium size as opposed to large or wardrobe boxes. Most likely would use them again.
Description of Work: 2 person family moving from a 2 story, 2 bdr house to a 2/2 about 3 miles away.

Everything went well. A 24' truck and three men, Took from about 8:30AM to around 2:30PM but everything made it where it needed to go, They unhooked the washer and drier and reinstalled them at the ex's. No damage and everything made it. Good guys, very professional.
Description of Work: Had to move out of my 3 br home to my new wife's townhome with a stop along the way at my ex-wife's. App 40 boxes, two br sets and a living room and office along with washer, dryer, and fridge. We delivered most of the furniture and appliances to me ex's house and then proceeded on to my new home.

They were punctual, efficient, and polite. I believe we had one or two very minor dings on something, but that's to be expected with any move. They did a great job packing up the kitchen -- not a single glass item was broken. They were also very careful with the furniture. The same crew was present for both moves, which indicates to me at least some level of low turnover. They were a breeze to work with and I wouldn't hesitate to work with them again.
Description of Work: A Better Tripp helped us move out of and back into our house in connection with a major house renovation, to a house a few minutes away. They packed up most of our stuff for us as well (kitchen, etc.).

The team did a great job. I was moving from my Galleria condo to my fiance's home in NW Houston. We first had to move everything out of the condo then stop at my storage facility to pick up additional furniture. Once we arrived at my new home, everything was unloaded then furniture items and boxes belonging to my fiance were moved back to the storage facility. It was a complicated move but the crew took it in stride and made what could have been a very stressful day into one that went off without a hitch. Thank you!
Description of Work: Move of household goods from condo to new home. Stopped at storage on the way to pick up additional items and then unloaded everything at new residence.

The move was a total of 8 miles, but still took 10 hours. The guys arrived on time, had all the material they needed and worked as hard as ever. I was very impressed. We have not moved for 16 years so I was expecting the worst. I hope we don't move again for a very long time, but if we did I would call Tripp Moving. I have already recommended them to a co-worker.

This was a wonderful experience. I would (and did) recommend A Better Tripp, Bill O'Niel, and these guys to move my family. They called to confirm, showed up as scheduled, worked non-stop, and moved everything with care. As an example, without being asked, the guys put pads on and wrapped every single piece of the brother-in-law's wood furniture before moving it. I had been worried about having a big issue if anything was scraped, but everything was perfect. Besides the normal stress of moving, both these moves had different emotional issues involved. The primary "customers" each had special needs. The guys from A Better Tripp, starting with Bill, used tact and patience and really worked well with the family. I don't know how that factors in when picking a moving company, but it was really a great help to me. Their pricing was very competitive with other companies I contacted. I really feel like we got VIP premium service for a very reasonable price. I've relocated my family many times over the years, so I've contracted and coordinated many moves. This was absolutely heads and shoulders above any experience I've had with moving companies. I give them an A+.
Description of Work: We hired them to move our elderly mother from a very large house into an independent living center apartment. This was a one day packing and move. After having a great experience with them, we hired them to move my brother-in-law from one two-bedroom apartment across town to another apartment. This was a challenging move because the relative is extremely particular, deaf, and his furniture was all good quality without any blemishes or scratches. Both his apartments were on third floors without elevators.

They arrived at 7 or so and after we discussed our options on time and space and underestimation we got to work. Everything was moved that I wanted moved and put in the correct rooms and set up and wired in and everything. They went the extra mile on the refrigerators in the garage and the freezer and everything. They were great. I think we had two trucks and should have had three but we managed.
Description of Work: I moved from Spring Branch to 290/Beltway 8 and my house was packed. The estimator underestimated the number of trucks and people needed to do the job so the worker guys were stuck with a huge undertaking. They were terrific! They worked their tails off and there were no damages of any kind. I had a piano and they moved it; no problem. All the artwork was easily handled. They managed some of the patio furniture, too. I fed them lunch from a fast food joint; I thought it was only fair. They put all the paper and cardboard down on the floors in the new home to protect them and cleaned up after it was all over. True, they didn't get it all but that wasn't their fault. They busted butt all day long and did a great job. The garage was left and I handled that over the next few days. I would hire them again with the clear knowledge that I get a good estimator and not a smooth salesman.

I thought the move went smoothly. The only mix-up was the arrival time at our storage facility. The crew chief said the moving truck would be there on Wednesday or Thursday. They actually showed up on Tuesday. Fortunately, we had planned to arrive on Tuesday, so we we able to meet them. My wife was upset that one of her yard statutes was broken in the move.
Description of Work: A Better Tripp Moving shrink wrapped all the furniture and packed everything in the house. We had a large quantity of boxes in storage, which they loaded. The four man crew was enough manpower to complete the job in a timely manner.

A Better Tripp took great care in wrapping all of our furniture in plastic wrap and blankets to protect it and even told us that we should transport a few small items ourselves because, even though they were carefully wrapped, they could have been damaged in the moving truck. They covered the floors with cardboard to protect them. Overall, they took care of our belongings as if they had been their own.
Description of Work: We hired A Better Tripp to move from our townhome in Downtown Houston to our new home in the Memorial area in 2009.

The guy?s name is David Tripp. I got them from Angie?s list. We transferred goods which were in a one bedroom apartment. The goods consisted of one bed, one table and a whole lot of boxes. We disliked the attitude of a worker called Doug. He showed up four hours late in Washington DC causing my daughter to miss her flight. She was moving back here. It was extremely stressful for her. She was moving back here because of health reasons. She spent most the time crying because they didn?t show up. When they did show up, they didn?t finish. So they had to come back the next day and again they came two hours later. They were just down the street and they called, but showed up two hours later. My daughter knows the area quite well and she knew how far they had to drive from there. Each time Doug went on asking if we were going to report on him because the van got stopped by the police since we didn?t meet all the requirements, so we got fined and we got tickets. When we got here he was not pleasant. When he arrived here we had some friends come over to help us. They knew Spanish. Doug didn?t know Spanish, but the other workers knew. So they were complaining about him to my friends in Spanish. They were saying how angry he is all the time about something and how negative he is. I had to ask them to put a covering on my entrance hallway when they came in, or else they would not have done it. They taped all the boxes together. They came over, and scratched and damaged my steps. We just had it replaced the month before. I also asked him to put a covering on my steps and he said it?s too late now. The workers were excellent, but they hardly spoke in English. Doug was difficult to work with. We had to insist on everything. Overall it was an extremely stressful experience. I asked them to open the boxes but they did just a few of them. All the rest are sealed. I would not use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: I used A Better Tripp Moving & Storage Co Inc for moving. I used their services last Thursday. They picked up goods from my daughter’s house in Washington DC on the 17th of March which is a Thursday. They then made a delivery here in Katy, on the 22nd of March which is a Tuesday.

Response from A Better Tripp Moving & Storage
The rare and unfortunate problems of long distance communication! We certainly do not wish for this to ever occur, although it is occasionally unavoidable. Perhaps we can offer this to the mother of this client, who has chosen to illustrate her disappointment here. We were actually on schedule for the pick up day exactly as planned in DC. And yes, we were stopped one day prior due to the expiration of our fuel sticker for DC. Then we were re-directed by the client's apartment building several times (upon arrival) in order to park our large vehicle at the residence, resulting in a late start on our assigned pick up day. to complicate this even more, the building at origin would not allow us to operate after 5PM. All this is most rare and certainly circumstantial. Most clients are aware that such occurances can happen, therefore will understand a window of time for long distance pick ups. Even so, A Better Tripp, paid for the resulting air fare change necessary. Upon arrival in Houston (quite timely) five days later, our sales rep was on the phone with complaintant as the shipment was being delivered. We were not made aware of any problems such as stair preparation or driver incompatibilty at that time. As to the un-packing, we are always willing to unpack, as previously arranged unpacking charges are stated in the contract. None in this case. It is unacceptable to us to have any report below excellence on Angie's List. In this case we will tidy up any matter of our doing to avoid it happening again. Perhaps we should start with better communications with all parties involved in the move, not simply the shipper.

I was impressed with Renee at the office who provided the quote. Very nice and personable. My first thought was that the quote was too high, but I continued based on a friends experience and also knowing that a phone estimate was just that - a general estimate. It probably didn't help that I made my house seem a lot bigger on the phone. The day of the move the movers showed up on time, were extremely nice and introduced themselves immediately. I showed them around and they got started and went to work wrapping and protecting all the furniture and valuables. The care these guys took wrapping and prepping was impressive. That they did it and still were moving at a good speed was even more impressive. They were upbeat and cracking jokes with my wife and I, too. It really helped take the edge off and made the whole experience more enjoyable. They finished in a reasonable time and the final price was lower than the estimate. I have never been happy moving, but this is the closest I think I will ever get. Not having to supervise the movers or worry about your furniture and valuable is a huge plus during a move. We aren't finished unpacking, but so far everything has showed up exactly as it should. The only reason I am writing this review prematurely is because of how impressed my wife and I were. I will definitely use a Better Tripp in the future - I was extremely satisfied.

Movers showed up right on time and were cordial and efficient. Took very good care of my furniture and were careful in making sure everything was wrapped and protected. The same movers showed up on time the next day to unload my furniture in Dallas and did a great job situating my furniture where I asked. More expensive than some of the other quotes I received but I think it was worth it.
