They came when they said they would and did their inspection. It's hard to evaluate their work, since they didn't actually do any.
Description of Work: They inspected our A/C unit and tested the coolant charge. They recommended that I level the pad it sits on, since it was tilted, but said that it didn't need anything other than that. Although the inspection deal included 2 lbs. of Freon, they didn't give us any because it didn't need it. The A/C has continued to work fine all summer (as before).

It went great. I was mixed up on the appt date but they waited 15 minutes and I arrived within that time. I felt they did a thorough checkup of my system. They also took the time to explain what was going on and what they tested for. They also changed my furnace filter in the attic.

This whole experience was excellent. Three different people worked on the systems over 2 different days. They arrived on time, demonstrated quiet, competent professionalism and gave us clear and complete descriptions of everything they did. The work was accomplished quickly and completely. They did work inside and in the attic, and took special care not to track in dirt after being outside. The work in the attic was accomplished completely and faster than they estimated. I will definitely use them again when I need work done on my heating/air conditioning systems.
Description of Work: They performed a full system check on both air conditioning systems, identified issues (with pictures and full explanations); then performed all the repairs needed on both systems.

We had all the vents and return air ducts of our 1968 built home cleaned. It was DISGUSTING to see what they removed, especially in the return air vents. I cant recall the gentlemans name that performed the service, but he and his wife were very personable, clean and efficient!!! I was skeptical, because I heard duct cleaning doesn't do much- I disagree with that theory! I saw what they looked like before and what they looked like during and after.... I am glad we did it! I can even smell a difference!

I called Rita just after closing time on a Monday evening. She was out of office, so since it was not an emergency, I offered to call her the following morning. When I called the next morning, she greeted me like an old friend, and she set up call, promising me service today. She called an hour before Aaron came, as she said she would. Aaron showed up right on time...what a good guy! He asked a few questions, found the problem, and offered to take me up to the attic and show me how to fix it myself next time. Really great experience. The next time I have air conditioning trouble, this will be my first call. Thanks Diamond, and thanks Angie's list

Mr. Scott Peterson Owner Mr. Alan Vaughan Owner Diamond Quality Services 1527 West ST HWY 114 STE 500 Grapevine, Texas 76051 August 18, 2012 Dear Mr. Peterson and Mr. Vaughan: In response to our advising you on August 12, 2012 that we had electric bills of $244 and $370 for the last two months you visited us on August 14, 2012. You tested and looked at our C/H system. Following that you submitted an estimate ($15,575) to replace that C/H systems with new units. We advised you that due to the huge amount of the expense we would be seeking three other bids from Angie's List members. That was done. Each bidder was provided a copy of your proposal, minus pricing and company information, along with a card containing our contact information. The bidder visits took place on Wednesday August 15 and Thursday August 16. The contract was awarded on Friday August 17, 2012. You did not receive the contract and here is why. Scott and Alan, you both visited, checked the house inside and outside and gauge checked the outside A/C unit. You were the only one of the bidders who did not go into the attic of the house. That was the first place each of the other bidders requested to see and then inspected. Most disturbing is what the first bidder discovered. He has been in the C/H business for the last thirty years. He found that two ducts running from the A/C to vents into room ceilings were completely severed. They were spewing cold air into the attic. That is why the front dining room and my office had not received A/C at all during the last 8 weeks. The bidder went to his vehicle and found a full roll of duct tape. He spent the next 30 minutes using the full roll of duct tape making emergency repairs to the two completely severed ducts and another duct that was about to be torn open. I was in the attic with him. I was horrified to see the severed and torn ducts and how the poorly attached Radiant Barrier is starting to separate from the ceiling and is beginning to fall down. Why are the ducts coming apart? Because you did not use sufficient duct length and as a result the weighted down ties are severing the ducts. Scott and Alan why did you not find these things yourselves? You did not have enough time or concern to even check the attic. You are the only one of the 4 bidders who did not see the attic. The others all ask to go and see the attic first. Yes at ,age 70, I was in the attic three time last week, not a good thing for me to be doing. I hope you will understand why our trust in you is lost and our disappointment in you as a professionals in heating and cooling is beyond description. Charles J. SpohnAnn E. Spohn __________________________________
Description of Work: Service failed to do the job properly in May No knowing that I called them again to give me a bid on replacing my C/H unit and they were the only bidder that did not bother to look at portion of these units located in my attic. That was the first thing all other bidder asked to inspect. Through this inspection we discovered he poor work hey did in May which caused us to have huge electric bills in July and August.

Member, I am surprised by your letter. I sincerely disagree with your assessment of our professionalism and integrity. We have been nothing but honest and responsive to you at every opportunity. The accusations you levied at us are severe and grossly inaccurate, and appear to be malicious with the intent to impair our business. You purchased a tune up through Angie’s List and Alan came out to look at your system. Upon arrival he found the condensing unit main power wires to be burnt, but the condenser was operating. The refrigerant levels were low but the current draw was high. Alan asked me to stop by and check the condensing unit as a second opinion. His initial thoughts were the compressor was failing. While he was there he suggested adding a return duct because your existing system did not have enough return based on manufacturer recommendations. Alan also suggested adding insulation because your existing insulation level was well below Energy Star recommended levels. He also suggested radiant barrier based on your total exposure of your roof and tremendous amount of surface area on your roof based upon the square footage of your home. I stopped by later that day and checked your condensing unit. The current draw was higher than it should be, but was operational. I discussed this with you at length, explaining that the unit was operating but not efficiently. I also discussed the return duct, insulation, and radiant barrier with you. I explained that you would see energy savings with all three, but if the compressor is not working properly you would not see significant savings. We installed the return duct, insulation, and radiant barrier by your request. I was on the job during the installation of the radiant barrier, and part of the insulation which was the second day. You were very pleased with the service and installation. You then contacted us via email Monday Aug 13 about excessive electric bills. Alan and I came out the following day to find out what was occurring. You were having the kitchen remodeled at that time as well, and it had been going on for a period of time. You commented the two front bedrooms were not cooling as well as you would like. We went over to the rooms and found the doors closed, but there was a tremendous amount of air blowing from under the doors. I again explained to you that the doors needed to be at least cracked open a couple of inches to allow proper airflow, which I had previously explained when we were installing the radiant barrier, insulation, and return. At no time did you identify the dining room or your office as a problem with temperature or comfort. Alan and I went out to check the unit and found it to be low on refrigerant. You asked for a quote on a new system, and you wanted an energy efficient one as you and your wife are conscious of energy savings. I asked if you were interested in zoning your home into 3 zones, one for the master suite, one for the living and kitchen, and one for the bedrooms; dining; and office because of the western exposure to allow a better balance in the home. I explained your thermostat was on the east side of the home next to the master suite so afternoon heat would elevate the temperature in the west before the thermostat would recognize the heat load in the west. You said that would be great, please include that in your proposal. I stated I needed to measure the home and window surface area so I could size your air conditioner correctly. Alan and I spent about 30 minutes completing the calculations. You told us that we were your contractors and that you wanted to get additional bids, and that it would be identical systems quoted from the competitors then you would show us what the proposals were so we could adjust if need be (We do not adjust our quotes other than removing line items since we do not inflate our prices). You were exceedingly happy with our responsiveness and professionalism. You had told us how every other contractor that you have used in the past did you a disservice, but we were the exception. Now we receive a letter accusing of lying and being unprofessional with inept service as well as in the letter you said, based upon our high quote you would be getting 3 additional bids. The proposal we sent was what you had asked for, energy efficient components. A 2 Speed Home Comfort System is not cheap to begin with. I added an additional line item for the zoning system which bumps the cost up, but is optional. I added an electronic filter that guarantees a clean evaporative coil for 10 years, which is a significant savings on efficiency and also significantly improves indoor air quality. We also added a fresh air intake to dilute chemical buildup in the home and also combat negative pressure in the home so most of the air entering the home is filtered air which was also optional. They were listed as options on the line item. If you didn’t want the items then simply take them off. You stated we did not go into the attic as every other contractor did. I personally spent 12 hours in your attic previously as we installed a return, filter box, insulation and radiant barrier. I knew the ducting, insulation, radiant barrier, gas, plenums, suspension of the system, and electrical. I had no need to enter the attic based upon my knowledge of the system. I needed to know if we needed to reduce your unit from 5 tons to 4 based upon the current heat load on your home so you do not have humidity problems. We are then accused of not installing supply ducting correctly and that it was severed. First, we did not install any supply ducting that blew into rooms; we installed a return duct that pulled air out of the home. No duct was separated while we were in the attic. It would have been obvious since we had to get out of your attic every thirty to forty minutes because of the heat in the attic. There was not cold air blowing the attic while we were there. It is not uncommon for a contractor to disconnect ducting in an attic to cool the area they are working in, which sounds like it was above the kitchen based upon the layout of the home. A simple call to clarify what you were being told and what you said you saw would have been nice, as I am sure if you were in a similar situation you expect the same courtesy. We are accused of lying and being unprofessional. We have answered every question to your satisfaction every time from the initial tune up to the system replacement quote. Then you are shocked by what another contractor tells you about us that is trying to earn an installation job against us. I look at our 170+ positive reviews on Angie’s List and I can rest well knowing that Diamond Quality Services does quality work with zero sales pressure, and stands behind the work that we do. We always will offer service beyond expectation as we have given you. Unfortunately most unresolved issues arise from a lack of communication which is what we have had. I was disappointed in them. Aaron came out and told me my drain plug needed cleaning and he wanted to charge me $175 more. I questioned him and he told me to contact Diamond. I was surprised that this service was not included in the deal. There was some miscommunication. Service is a broad term and I assumed service mean they would include taking off the panels and cleaning out debris and drain plug.

$69.00 Tune-up including up to 2lbs of Freon The pro technicians at Diamond Quality Services will perform a complete 16 point tune up and inspection of your A/C system that includes the following Refrigerant levels, compressor contactor, running and starting amps, capacitors and relays, condensate drains, evaporator coil, drain pan, plumbers hub, wire and safety devices, thermostat, vibration/noise, lubricate motors, ductwork conditions and filters. This is the information provided for the members to read Before they purchase the Big Deal. We tried to list everything that could be done (if applicable to your system) so there would be no confusion. No cleaning is mentioned. Unfortunately some companies do take a water hose and rinse off the condenser, but we don't believe this is a good idea. It forces the debris back into the condenser coils and will eventually impair the airflow to the unit. We actually take the cabinet off the condenser to clean it. This takes more time but is more efficent.

We called DQS requesting that they diagnose the non-functioning A/C and provide an estimate to repair or replace the ductwork at the pier and beam home we are purchasing (as the initial inspector had identified these as problem areas). The initial appointment went very smoothly and they were right on time for our appointment. However, after diagnosing the A/C and inspecting the attic ductwork, the technician told us that his Company does not go underneath houses (we told them it's a pier and beam home with ductwork beneath) and would not inspect the ductwork down there. This was disappointing as this is where the majority of the damaged ductwork is. Furthermore, we sent them our initial inspection report identifying the problem areas and stated it was a P&B home so there was no reason they wouldn't have known. When we called DQS to complain about the lack of an underhome inspection, they were very defensive and somewhat unprofessional. They made no attempts to address our concerns, provide a refund, or even point us to another HVAC company that WOULD do the job. In the end, we had to hire another HVAC company to do the job, incurring yet more costs.
