Steve was great. Very professional, and went over everything in detail. We were very impressed with the fact that he actually goes with his customers to pick out stone and tile to ensure you get the best quality available. Steve's guys were all very couteous and professional, and the work was completed within the qouted times. I would definately recommend Artisan Granite to anyone that needs their services.

Steve was very professional and courteous throughout the process, taking the time to explain the process, explain and suggest various options in the design, and going with us to the granite dealers to look at slabs. He was also very accessible and communicated promptly and often. His service is top notch, and his network of granite and tile dealers is high quality. He was also good about recommending a grade of granite that was par for our home and neighborhood. His pricing was at the high end of the range compared with the mass production outfits, but you get value from the consultation and transparency throughout the process. It was good that he priced the slab at dealer price, which made it easy for us to run numbers while at the dealer warehouses. We would definitely hire Steve again.

I contacted several other contractors in town to do the job, who were not only more expensive, but unable to schedule me in a timely manner. The folks at Artisan set me up with an appointment that worked perfectly with my schedule. The technicians arrived and quickly measured for the new cutout, insuring that it was perfectly centered. After making the cuts, they test fit the new cooktop, and vacuumed all dust and debris completely. The whole process was done in half an hour. I was completely satisfied with the job, and would highly recommend Artisan to do any similar work.

They did a good job putting in what we wanted them to and their work was high quality. However, the co-owner walked into the house unannounced without knocking, or ringing the doorbell. Before knowing who he was, his presence was unnerving and unexpected. This, I found to be rather discourteous and unprofessional. The workers seemed diligent and friendly, but the co-owner did not give me a good impression of him in general. However, overall the company's workers did a good job that we are satisfied with. The granite countertops were skillfully put in, and they are wonderful.

Description of Work: Steve, the owner of the company, came out in May of 2012 to give a bid for replacing the countertops and backsplash in my kitchen. I also had another company from Angie's List out and made the decision to work with Artisan Granite. Steve was very professional, on time and most of all , knew his product. Because of scheduling ( on my part, not his) , we didn't have a chance to have the work done until right before Christmas. I was very impressed with not only the quality of the work, but the employees who did the installation were terrific. They completely cleaned up after they were finished, not a speck of debris was left. Steve followed up with me afterwards to make sure it was to my satisfaction and offered to redo it if not. I have already recommended Steve to numerous clients.

.see above. Do--discuss the job thoroughly and understand what you are asking for and what it entails. Discuss the care and maintenance of the product. In this case Steve came out for a final visit to caulk and discuss the job including the care of the granite. Don't rush the job--plan for up to two weeks for the installation ordering the stone, installation, etc.
Description of Work: We whad wanted Granite countertops in our kitchen for a long time. We had discussed it with some other contractors but issues had always arisen (such as they did not show up when scheduled). Steve with Artisan Granite was simply at another level. First he kept his appointments; second, he communicated with my wife and me on several occasions making sure we understood both the materials and the process since this also included tumbled stone for the backsplash; third the pricing was both competitive and I thought very fair. His crews showed up when they said and made their measurements. Steve met with my wife and me to choose the stone the sink and discuss possible issues in detail. He provided a written proposal that spelled out responsibilities in detail, including my request to do some of the installation myself (the sink and the new cooktop). His crews as well as Steve, showed up on time, demolished the old countertops and installed the granite. The backsplash team showed up on their scheduled date and finished the job. Although the entire process is not necessarily quick since the grouts and glues must dry, the overall experience was outstanding.

After searching through the reviews of countertop installers on Angie's List, we contacted Steve L'Huillier at Artisan Granite Countertops and told him that we were looking for a specific type of granite for our wet bar. Steve promptly visited our home to get a better idea of the layout for the project. He then chose the slab of the granite that we wanted and also picked out a replacement sink for us. I was a little surprised that he took on this responsibility, but frankly, we didn't have the time to make these selections ourselves, and we never asked him if we could check out his selections before they were installed. We were delighted with his choices. The installation went very smoothly. The installers arrived on time and were very professional. They had to rip out the old countertop (which they did without causing any damage to the surroundings), and then they installed -- perfectly -- the beautiful new countertop. The sink was gorgeous as well and was just right for the bar and the new faucets (which we actually picked out). We were pleased with the result and still love looking at the new bar. It improves the look of that whole area of our house. After the work was done, Steve told us that there was still a large piece left of the slab, and he asked us if we wanted it. For a minimal price, he fashioned a beautiful top for a table from the remaining piece, which we gave to a friend. If we have any need for countertops in the future, we most certainly would use Artisan Granite Countertops. The entire experience was very pleasant, and the result was delightful.
Description of Work: We wanted to replace our existing wet bar countertop and sink with a more elegant look.

We are "DIY" types and this kitchen remodel was one part of a bigger project updating the entire ground-level of our home. This is worth mentioning because the effort was (is) a combination of weekend/evening projects and, where contractors are involved, there's "input" to many aspects of the their job. In other words, a working relationship that could stretch the patience of some contractors. Not so with Steve and his crew ... we can summarize the Artisan Granite experience as absolutely "no problems"! From the start, getting together for an initial estimate required a weekend appointment that Steve readily accommodated. He assessed the work to be done, taking time to describe potential challenges in removing old porcelain tile countertop and decking. Our offer to complete the tear-out for some savings was A-OK with him ... however, later recognizing his crew would do it easier and faster was "no problem". We wanted the countertop demo / templating / installation to closely coordinate with our painting contractor for minimum kitchen downtime and Steve's response was ... "no problem". Templating for a not yet delivered slide-in range, Steve helped work through the interpretation of manufacture's specs and, based on his experience, avoided a cut-out problem that would have resulted from using our measurements alone. As our granite color and backsplash design ideas progressed through several stages, Steve patiently considered every idea and offered advice while assuring that his team could deliver whatever pattern/look we wanted. When the backsplash installation day arrived, Artisan's recommended tile-setter immediately recognized a challenge using our design for the four "inside" and six "outside" angles presented by the kitchen's bay-type three window counter. We called Steve to get a different size tile for the whole project. "No problem" ... he called the supplier, had replacement tile readied for us to immediately pick-up, and the backsplash was completed without the need to re-schedule. From demo to design and installation, every member of the Artisan team was courteous and professional. If you're looking for a granite craftsman who can deliver a quality result based on years of design and installation know-how, Steve is the one to call.
Description of Work: Remove 18 year old porcelain tile kitchen countertop / backsplash and replace with granite and travertine. Project was part of a complete kitchen remodel requiring scheduling with other contractors arranged through homeowner.

The evening before the appointment, I emailed Steve and asked him to have samples of standard edge finishes he offers as well as a few custom edge treatments available to see. He emailed me back the next morning with the following "I'm canceling this project now before any work is done. I will send your check back to you immediately." He had already cashed our check for half of the cost of the project. I emailed Steve and asked him to explain. He emailed me back later that day saying that he would get back to me that same day, but he did not. I emailed him the next day and asked once again for an explanation, and later that day he called me. Although this was a very uncomfortable conversation, we both remained calm. I asked Steve what had happened. Steve said that when he saw that I was requesting custom samples, he got emotional and frustrated and just decided to respond back to me the way he did. I asked him what I had done wrong and he said ...."I"........"I"......He claimed that he had told me that he could not show me samples of custom edges without charging for them. I asked him why he did not just call me and talk to me first, for I did not recall him mentioning that he would charge extra to generate custom edge samples. He said the job was too small and that he did not want to spend any more time on it. He apologized for how he handled the situation. I asked him to never do this to anyone else again. He told me that he was a grown adult and that he did not need to be lectured to. I did receive a refund check. Below is what Steve puts at the bottom of all his emails.................. I am personally involved with each step in this process. I am not a contractor who sells a job, collects the money, and then passes all the work to someone else. I only take on a small number of jobs at one time so that I am able to provide very personalized service. The behavior exhibited was completely out of line with what you would expect from a granite fabricator who advertises very personalized service. The granite was fabricated by another contractor, without incident.
Description of Work: Steve came to our home and gave us an estimate to fabricate granite for our master bathroom. He spoke in detail about how he was a hands on person who followed his jobs very carefully, and how he would be there every step of the way for us. An appointment was scheduled to generate the granite patterns.

Response from Artisan Granite Countertops
This client was referred to Artisan Granite Countertops by a local stone wholesaler, not Angie's List. I drove to his home and discussed his master bath remodel, which he had already started. I quoted him on providing granite vanity tops, shower bench, and tub deck. We discussed granite edge choices. Subsequently, I met Member at the stoneyards to assist him in searching for his stone. While there, we spent 15 minutes looking at, and discussing, the various standard and premium edge details. I explained the price differences between the two groups. We signed a contract with the edge choice of a simple 1/4" radius on both the top and bottom edge. This is a standard edge included in my base pricing. Afterward, he started asking about other custom edges and then drew two designs on paper. I told him we were capable of doing both of his custom edges. When asked about seeing examples of his custom edges, I explained we did not have existing samples of these edges and we could not fabricate his custom samples without charging a fee for this service. The client was not interested in paying anything for his requested custom samples. He expected me to eat this cost. We had this conversation on Friday and again on Saturday. On Sunday evening, less than 24 hours before a scheduled meeting at his home to take templates, the client sends me an email telling me he expects to see those custom edge samples when he arrives at the shop on Tuesday. He was trying to bully me into providing samples of his custom edges so he could deliberate which one to use. Frustrated with his demanding and rude attitude, I immediately replied to the client that I was canceling his contract before any work was done. I told him I would immediately return his down payment check, not knowing my wife had deposited the check just hours earlier. The following day, I returned his calls and explained to him why I canceled the contract. Just as I thought, he yelled and berated me. I told him I was genuinely sorry for not calling him and telling him of my decision, rather than sending an email. I just knew how he would react. I also told him my wife had deposited his check prior to my email and that I would immediately send him a full refund on a company check; which I did. This man then proceeds to write a scathing, fabricated, and twisted review of me and claims this work was completed. It was not completed because I stopped it before it started. I suspect Member did so because he read the Angie's List subscript stating "more weight is given to completed jobs." I later learned from stone suppliers this gentleman had been having a difficult time retaining contractors prior to my dealings with him. I guess I wasn't surprised. I've spent years building a good solid business by taking good care of my clients and my Angie's List reviews, as well as my Better Business Bureau reports, bear witness to that. I tried very hard to take care of Member, but he is unbearable. I've installed over 220 kitchens and 200 bathrooms without a scratch and my reference list is everyone I've ever done work for. I will continue to provide the very best, personalized service to my clients, I only ask to be treated in a fair and professional manner.

Overall, a very positive experience. Steve's attention to detail and pride in his and his company's work was evident throughout the entire process, start to finish. I liked the idea of using a smaller local company versus a big box retailer for this project and I am very glad I did. Steve has a separate crew (all nice guys who did great work) for every facet of the work (tear-out, template design, granite install, plumbing, back splash install) but I never felt like I was "sold" a job and then sub-contracted out as he was involved in every step along the way and even came himself on a Sunday afternoon to finish out some ticky tack punch list issues to put the final touches on the completed job. Steve was very involved in our design process, offering recommendations and educational tidbits while picking out our slabs and backsplash materials and design , which we thought was helpful. However, if you had a strong opinion about what you wanted, I'm sure he would stay out of your way and just help facilitate the job. While I'm not a big believer in "free" products, figuring that most contractors are going to make their necessary margins one way or another, the free stainless steel sink that Steve offers his Angie's List customers is a nice one. I honestly did not shop price very aggressively, but have a feeling that saving a few hundred dollars would not have resulted in any significant "real" savings, taking into account cost, value, the high quality of Artisan's work, and my overall satisfaction. We ran a little over budget, but I believe that was more a matter of us not taking into account certain issues as Steve's prices seemed fair. I will very comfortably recommend Artisan Granite to anyone who asks.

We were building a new house and completely frustrated with a builder's stone subcontractor. The pricing that we were quoted by the builder was roughly twice the market price. Going to the Angie's List provider with the largest number of positive reviews was one of the best moves we made during the construction of our home. From the first call with Steve, we felt comfortable that we were dealing with an honest and professional service organization. Everything Steve promised he delivered, plus a little extra. He also had to deal with difficult situation, and successfully navigated between his customer and the builder. Our kitchen, bathrooms and media room look terrific.

Response from Artisan Granite Countertops
Thanks Member for the kind words. Unfortunately, your original granite fabricators did not properly brace your undermount sink when installed. Silicone caulk alone will not hold an undermount sink in place. At Artisan Granite Countertops, we always brace our sinks from below using 2x2 wooden T-posts which are then screwed into your side cabinets. In this case, we had to unhook all the plumbing lines and remove the sink. After thoroughly cleaning the sink surfaces and granite underside, we re-attached everything and then installed the bracing. Then, and only then, do we install clear silicone in the seam as a waterproofing sealant. Member, your sink is now good to go and should last you many, many years. Don't forget to deal your granite at least once a year and avoid using ammonia products in the kitchen as they negate the sealant properties. Thanks for contacting Artisan Granite Countertops!

From the very beginning we were comfortable with Steve and Valerie. Steve did everything he said he would do, when he said it would be done! The quote arrived on time, he met us at the granite warehouse, helped us pick out what we wanted; met us at the tile warehouse, helped us with that; he was at our house for every step of the installation. He was always available either by email or phone to answer our questions. The plumber, Brian, was here when promised and did a flawless job installing the new faucet on our FREE sink, and reconnecting our gas cooktop. The tile installer, John, did an excellent job, was here when promised and a perfectionist. I was very impressed with the whole process. At the end of each day, the area was totally cleaned up! Steve and Valerie came to our house on a Sunday afternoon to seal the granite before the tile was installed. Steve really cares about each job and that is what really impressed us! He was great to work with!

I'm not sure how to give a "Super Duper Best There Is" award, but if I knew, Steve would get our votes!! There are not enough "A"s to give to Artisan!! We are thrilled beyond our expectations with Steve's work. We had 3 bids and they all seemed to be good companies but Steve went above and beyond from the beginning. Before we even decided who to go with he was in touch with us by email with suggestions and specific details about what we should expect. Throughout the process he was great with communication and contacting us every step of the way. He had a great eye for the design and colors that would go well in our kitchen, and suggested that we extend the island countertop and slide 2 stools under it. We appreciated his decoration expertise and his wife (Valerie) also had great ideas. It's not only beautiful, it's so much more functional than I could have imagined. Choosing the granite that we loved was easy and Steve went with us to be sure that there weren't any blemishes in the slabs we picked out. The whole process went extremely smooth and fast. From the moment we decided to replace the counter top, to getting bids, to picking out granite, installation, adding backsplash, to the finish, was accomplished in a month! The plumber(Brian) and tile guy (John) Steve has are excellent. I would highly recommend him to everyone.

Steve explained each step we needed to take in getting started with our project. On his first visit he brought pictures of finished projects and made suggestions for edges around the sink and the cabinet corners. He spent a lot of time explaining the different quality of sinks, faucets and backsplashes. He scheduled an appointment to come back and make the templates for the countertop and bar. He and his crew were always on time and professional.
Description of Work: I am remodeling my kitchen and needed to find someone to install new granite countertops. Artisan Granite had one of the highest ratings on Angie’s list so, I gave them a call. All of the positive comments posted about Steve, the owner, are true. He is very knowledgeable about different types of granite and is very helpful in recommending what he thinks might look best with your color scheme. He met my husband and me at the granite showroom early on a Saturday morning so we could select a slab. The workmanship of the granite he installed is superb. I will definitely have Steve do the work when I start remodeling my master bathroom

This was a very smooth experience. Steve was on time with all of his work and right on the money. We feel we got an excellent product and excellent service! In 2.5 days we had new countertops, new backsplash and our kitchen back in working order. Couldn't ask for more than that! He answered all of our questions, provided wonderful advise along the way and we gto a beautiful. kitchen. We might have gotten it a little cheaper somewhere else, but we doubt it -- and the service was beyond what we expected. We are extremely happy with the end result. In fact, the whole experience was great! We will be Using Artisan Granite again when we get ready to do our bathrooms.
Description of Work: Artisan Granite provided project planning, personal assistance with picking out granite counters and tumbled backsplash, and was onsite for the installation of the granite. Provided professional tile people to install backsplash. Steve provided great assistance regarding our cook top and a very helpful idea until our new cook top could be purchased. Steve saw the entire job through from the bid to the sealing of the backsplash. He let us DIY what we could and when we overstepped our expertise on the plumbing, he was right there with an excellent plumber who came out the same night. Steve insisted we not pick our countertops from samples but from the whole slabs to get the full picture of what we were choosing. We would recommend this -- All other bids brought out small samples for us to choose from. Not only are we glad we went to the slab yard with him, we learned a lot too.

Excellent job, on time, within budget, worked clean. Helped us to coordinate colors/styles, etc. Gave decorating input for faucets, lighting fixtures, etc., to tie in entire kitchen. Gave us info on where to get discounts on faucets, etc. This company also installed our granite countertop. Took extra time and effort to show us what was available, what differences to look for in granite, and to help us make choices. Quality job. No exaggeration--this is the type of company you dream about! In addition, he helped us correct a problem done by a previous shoddy contractor--on his time, and with no charge to us.
Description of Work: Installed tile backsplash in kitchen. (and granite countertops reported earlier)

It went really well. They do high quality work. They did what they said they would do. They were on time and really know what they are doing. They went above and beyond. They are very helpful with choosing color coordination ideas.

Steve's company came in and fixed my granite and did a great job, however, Steve had to cancel coming the same day to fix my grout due to traffic, so he came back 4 days later to finish. Probably my only complaint is that when he came in he was letting me know that he hadn't slept the night before and he was tired. I personally don't want to hear that when you are just about to fix something in my house. But, all in all I would hire him again for granite work.
Description of Work: they fixed my granite that was uneven and the grout
