Description of Work: the wood trim on our chimney was beginning to rot away. In addition, the hardy board slats were poorly mounted to the chimney frame which allowed strong winds to push open the side of the chimney and allow water into the attic. I was hoping we could just patch the chimney with new trim and call it good but Master Services came out, took pictures and explained to me what the issues with the chimney were. I climbed up on the roof and found that they were being truthful and fair with their assessment. When I challenged the cost, they took care to make sure I understood each charges on the quote. On a related note, they could have told me that the Angie's List Discount was included in their quote but they were honest and telling me that they forgot to include it, which when added took 10% off the labor. They also were able to reuse our chimney cap which saved us more money. Description of Work: Over phone explained that we had moved to home which had gas fireplace that we wanted to use but did not feel comfortable. Agreed to $140 service to inspect and clean gas chimney. With Angie's discount it would be $124. When service man came out he said we did not need chimney cleaned, but needed gas logs refurbished, which would cost additional $199 and he would have to come back. He charged $99 for inspecting.

Description of Work: We have just moved into a new home. We thought we had a gas starter but have been unable to use it. After checking your reviews I called Master Services (621 South Mayhill Suite D Denton, TX 76208 972-877-4650) to come out and help figure out the problem. Roy came out within a day or two of my call and within minutes diagnosed and fixed the problem. He also inspected my gas fireplace, showed me the best way to operate it, and answered all my questions.

Description of Work: Fireplace was inspected and cleaned. Instructions on use of chimney were given as well as advice about services that will not ever be necessary due to equipment installed on our chimney. We were also told that if we ever wanted to make it a real wood burning fireplace, we could do so rather easily due to the quality and original construction. We were told that if we didn't use the chimney, cleaning was not necessary. I still had it performed for safety on this occasion since I didn't know how much the previous owners had used the fireplace. Now we can use the chimney if we so desire with no questions about its safety, and after that we'll need to have it cleaned each year it is used. The entire length of our dryer vent was cleaned. This was the time-consuming part. We have a very long vent because our dryer is in a central location in our home and is, of course, vented outside. There had been a great deal of blockage that had developed over the years due to the length of the vent. But we were congratulated on having purchased the perfect dryer for our situation. We had recently purchased a exceptional highly rated dryer (almost commercial quality) and it is perfect for us because it has the high airflow that is necessary for any home with such a long vent as ours. Now if we maintain regular vent cleaning (which we do ourselves about twice a year) then we should need to have it cleaned professionally every couple or several of years for safety. At least yearly is highly recommended if we don't perform any vent cleanings ourselves.

Description of Work: We wanted our chimney swept. The company's representative arrived on time and explained that our kind of fireplace would not require sweeping. He pointed out that the outside section was quite crooked and that we might want to consider a new brick extension but that was beyond what we wanted to pay. We liked the estimate he gave us on putting a cap on and repairing what he could as well as blocking birds that would nest above and then lose babies which would fall to the floor in our house. We were very impressed w/ everything he did to put our chimney in great working order, cap it and clean it inside and out. He was professional, did a fabulous job and was so prepared to be sure not to leave even a grain of dirt or debris in the house. We appreciated the promptness in responding our initial inquiry to the dependability of each of the trips it took to get the job done and we thought the final price was quite reasonable for all the good work this company did for us. We would eagerly recommend this company and if ever needed their services in the future would not hesitate to call on them.

Description of Work: The mortar and brick on our exterior chimney was failing which caused a major leak inside whenever we had heavy rain. I called Master Services to have them come out and quote rebuilding the chimney with matching mortar and brick. The serviceman they sent insisted that the "best repair" for this issue was to build a metal cap that covered the chimney hip. I was skeptical about what it would look like, but he assured me it woudl "look better than if we just fixed the brick". I made the mistake of trusting him as the final result is ugly as sin--black sheet metal covering brick. Once we have additional money, we will pay a professional to come back and fix it properly. Will not use Master Service or refer them.

Description of Work: A soon-to-be Mama raccoon had selected my chimney for her delivery. I'm sure glad the flue was securely closed! The Master Services man humanely encouraged her to leave (a male raccoon urine-soaked rope dangled into the space did the trick). He then measured the chimney top and had a beautiful cap fabricated and installed by the next day. The cap is not only critter-proof, it really enhances the appearance of the house.

Description of Work: I used Master Services to sweep my chimney by draping a cloth right from the fireplace all the way to the living room to make sure the captured anything that would fall.

Description of Work: the first visit was for a cleaning and they did a good job. The serviceman found a lot of damage at the top of my chimney. I looked up there and found it to be true. He came back to put a new cap on my chimney along with some new morter and sealer.

Description of Work: Removed 3 crumbling refractory panels, plus bottom masonry panel in pre-fab fireplace. Cut 3 new refractory panels plus bottom panel, and installed in fireplace. Swept and inspected chimmney and fireplace. Converted fireplace to Gas Log burning from wood burning (using existing gas log starter pipe). Installed and setup Real Fyre Charred American Oak Gas Log set.

Description of Work: I had Master Services give my chimney an inspection & sweep, and install a chimney cap. I was concerned that my chimney brick might need repointing, but their technician said it didn't need it, saving me money. It is rare to see a contractor decline extra services they could charge for, so I am pleased that they were straight with me. The technician swept the chimney, cleaned up the firebox, tested the gas igniter, etc. in about 45 minutes. He took my order for the chimney cap and phoned it in right then. He gave me the date it would be done & it was installed on the date he said it would be, with no need for me to come babysit. The technician was courteous & cleaned up after himself.
