Description of Work: This experience was disappointing on many levels. Job was bid on an hourly basis with a "not to exceed" guarantee. The apartment that we were moving out of was not viewed. All information was gleaned from questions on the phone. I was asked to estimate how many boxes I thought we would have. I had NO idea, so estimated 150. We moved from downtown high-rise to a one-story house in Garland. | | I decided to pack some of the easy items such as books and some kitchen items. I packed about 25 book boxes and about 10-kitchen dish pack boxes I purchased from U-Haul. | | | The first day of packing two women showed up. They did not bring equipment to unload the boxes they brought and had to borrow my dolly. Right away, they determined they needed more help. A call was made and an additional woman was booked for the afternoon. They didn't bring enough boxes. Additional boxes were requested from management, more boxes were promised, but were never delivered. Third woman showed up around 2:00PM. It was decided that she would go to Lowes to purchase additional boxes. She did this on MY time. I didn't check on exact time. When she returned the packing crew decided she had been gone for 30 minutes. To do this she walked across the street and down about 1/2 block, drove to Lowes from downtown, parked at Lowes, went in purchased boxes, loaded her car, returned to apartment, parked brought boxes up in elevator all in 30 minutes! Since I didn't check time I could not dispute except for common sense. | | | The packing was a long day, but, other than mentioned, otherwise uneventful. | | | Wright Way said they would pack our pictures and artwork by wrapping them in blankets and placing them in special boxes that can load easily into the trucks. This was not done by the packers or the movers. As a result of poor packing, some frames were chipped. We are not completely unpacked at this writing, so all damages may not have been found. | | | In our high-rise apartment one must reserve the freight elevator for time needed. We were told by Tanya of Wright Way that it takes longer to move to/from our building, as there is a walk to the truck parking area. We agreed and at Tanya's request even paced off the distance, so the estimate would be as accurate as possible. Tanya told me that Wright Way has experience moving from our building and so had a good idea how much "extra time" it would take for the "long walk." Her estimate for the entire loading was was four hours, including the "long walk." Based on her estimate the freight elevator was reserved for the time estimated, four hours. What a joke. It took 7 hours to load! The moving crew arrived late which cut into our freight elevator time. When they first arrived they were moving efficiently. Then everything slowed down to a snails pace for about two hours of the reserved freight elevator time. Sure enough, our reserved time ran out on freight elevator. The crew was complaining, as they had to wait for the elevator, since now it was in general usage. They were really rough with our things. Bumping into corners and the like. Dressers, with drawers filled, were turned upside-down to move them to the truck. | |I have two large plants, Tanya told me they would be wrapped and placed upright in the truck. They were NOT wrapped. As a result, both plants were damaged. | | I will not list all of the damages but any item with a finial was broken off or damaged. Packed glasses broken, a glass wine decanter was broken, boxes were crushed, plastic storage cabinets were put on the truck upside down, some even placed in rooms upside down, some drawers were crushed, just to list a few of the items that were damaged or destroyed. | | | I have to say that the people who do the work were, in my opinion, doing the best they could. The problem, as I see it, is that Mr. Eric Wright, President, does not train his employees properly. I have moved many times, including internationally. This was the worst "professional" move, and I use the term "professional" loosely, we have ever experienced. None of our other, numerous moves, come even close to comparing. | | | Based on this experience, I could not, in good conscious, recommend Wright Way Movers. I give them a solid D. They did get the goods from one place to the other. Many items were damaged or destroyed. I did not file insurance, as we didn't buy the extended insurance. Wright Way provides pays $.60 per pound. Why bother? The move started at about 10AM (they were late) and ended about 2AM next day. We were exhausted.
