They unloaded a large truck from our move, and they did it just under three hours. After they would put a box in the home they would run back to truck and didn't waste any time. They are grade A.

The price was a little higher. The experience was very good. They were very personable. The rep gave me some suggestions on how to pack and what type of boxes to use. They were very helpful. The followed through and called back.

The initial estimate was about $850.00 with one truck and two movers and about 6 hours. Jeff did our estimate and was very honest with me and accurate. When moving day came around, 2 trucks showed up and 4 guys. This was going to cost more money and was not anywhere near the estimate. The head mover encouraged me to call the main office and see what the mix up was but that he felt we would likely need 2 trucks and it would cost less with 4 men overall because they would get it done quicker. I called the main office and they compromised with me on the cost of the 4 men and the 2nd truck. The overall cost ended up being about $300.00 less than the estimate and it took them about 3 hours-so it all worked out for the best! The movers had a great sense of humor and were very friendly and efficient. I have recommended Element Moving and Storage to two other friends. Thanks!
Description of Work: They moved us from a 2600 sq. ft home to a 2800 sq. ft. home about 3 miles apart. We packed our own boxes and they provided wardrobes for the clothes and wrapped all furniture they moved. We did move some of our own items but they moved about 85% of our belongs, as requested.

Please see my comments above! The office staff and the loading and packing crew were outstanding. There was no bait and switch! And everything went as I was advised it would, EXCEPT, the delivery and unloading. I would use this company again, IF, I could get a different driver to deliver my goods. And finally, this guy, the driver, tells me as he was leaving our residence that he would be stuck in traffic trying to get to Virginia because this job took soooo very long!! Amazing!!!
Description of Work: The company wrapped, took down and packed a few items. They loaded all of our goods on truck and our goods were transported to Silver Spring Maryland. All of the service received in TEXAS was excellent. The problems began when the long distance driver called the night before delivery to find out if he could unload at the loading dock at the apartment complex. We assured him that we were advised that he could with no problem and there would not be a need for shuttle service for our goods. When he arrived the next morning he was alone and parked on Georgia Ave making no attempt to drive down Ripley St ( the address where we reside) . I met him on the street near the front of the building where he proceeded to tell me that he would be ticketed for leaving his truck on Georgia and he could not get to building. I escorted him on foot in the rain to the loading dock where the staff from the hotel advised him that he could get an 18 wheeler to the dock as many others do all the time. He then asked me to show him where the apt was. Immediately stating that it qualified for "long carry" charges! He asked me what I thought the distance was from the elevator to the apt and from the dock to the freight elevator. I said I did not know. He said for sure it was 300 ft and I owed an additional $200. He then said that my stuff was packed too high in the truck for him to access alone and he had to call for help. It took about an hour for help to arrive. I stood downstairs and waited on the dock for them to get there. I had a 3-4 hour window for the delivery given by the complex. Three men assisted him. The first item off the truck was dropped to the ground as people passing by laughed and joked about. Additionally, he asked me to cut tape off wrapping to speed up his work. I did and it worked my butt off! He did not want to put the mirror back on the dresser, nor did he want to set up the desk. But reluctantly he did. At the end, he told me that he does not customarily take the tape and paper from his unpacking, but he was doing me a favor. I responded that I do not customarily get asked to cut tape with box cutters and unwrap quilted padding! It was obvious that he was annoyed that he could not offload this delivery to shuttle service! His service was very deficient! But because everyone in Texas was so great, I did not want to rate based on this one bad apple!!!!

Jeremy and the crew all were wonderful. They called when they were almost at the house, and got straight to work. We had a packed house, ( we had two houses worth of things packed into 1 house) They wrapped all the furniture and worked very quickly ( which is important when you are paying by the hour). All of the guys were polite, professional and personable. I felt very comfortable trusting them with my belongings. The move took longer than the quote...which did not surprise us that much because of the amount of stuff we had to move. But they really worked fast and did a great job. Jeremy, David, Roberto, & Morales were all great and I would definitely use them again...but hope I do not have to move again for a long long time :) I will gladly recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: We hired Element to move us. We packed ourselves, and hired Element to load the boxes onto trucks and move it to the new house. They unloaded all the boxes and furniture into the correct rooms in the new house.

The entire experience was wonderful. From the first contact over the telephone, to the in home estimate to the moving crew. Everyone was professional, courteous and efficient. Our crew was Jeremy, David, Quante and Eddy. They arrived on time and took great care of our belongings. We had a crew of 4 men and two trucks which made the job go much more quickly than I anticipated. They were extremly efficient, worked together well and were very helpful to us throughout the process. I would highly recommend them and would use them again!

Very smooth move. Mike, Eddie, and Chris arrived on-time (early in fact) and did a fantastic job. Efficiently but carefully packed the truck with all our furniture and pre-packed boxes. We had a few difficult pieces (sleeper sofa that required removing the door, wall-mounted bookshelves) that they handled with ease. Upon arrival at our new home, they were great about moving furniture around as I decided where things should go. No damages, except one picture that they recommended we special wrap (and we chose not to do). Have already recommended to friends.

Description of Work: Wonderful! They showed up on time and were very fast. They finished in the exact amount of time quoted as well. they came when they said they would. they packed everything in one truck like I requested. they arrived on time, and set everything up they were responsible before they left. They arrived on time. Jeremy Mirick was so honest and sincere, and willing to do things that weren't really his responsibility. Minimal amounts of damage, and it was all reported so that I could claim it.

I cannot think of enough negative adjectives to adequately describe our moving experience with Element Moving and Storage. Never in my life have I been taken for so much money while receiving so very little in service. To say my experience was awful would be doing a major injustice to the word "awful." I blame myself entirely for not researching Element Moving and Storage adequately, despite being told by many friends that moving companies have virtually no watchdog organization overseeing their businesses and practices. I researched about ten moving companies online and interviewed three companies in my home. Element Moving and Storage was by far the most expensive company among the three that actually came out and inventoried our home prior to giving us an estimate. I took this as a good sign, assuming that I would have to pay a premium if I wanted to be guaranteed a quality, hassle-free move. There were so many things that went wrong with this move that I have had to sit down and make a list to be sure that I did not leave anything out. From here on through the remainder of my overall experience, I will do the best I can to leave out personal narratives and will recount factual information only. We were sold on Element because of their glossy brochures and savvy salesperson. His name was Jeff Akin. He was very knowledgeable about the moving business, and he had a way of calming our fears about moving that no other company had done. He assured us he would be with us from start to finish. He collected our $750 deposit, (10% of the cost of the move) which reserved our packing and loading dates and we never saw Jeff again. We did talk to him twice after this during the move process in hopes that he could straighten out some of the mess, but all he could do was take messages and deliver them to the owner, Elle Nesher. Element Moving and Storage arrived at our home on February 27, 2012 to pack the entire contents of our home and prepare for shipment from Dallas, Texas to Westport, Connecticut. We had agreed on a February 28 move-date and were not aware that it had changed until they arrived on the 27th. They responded by saying that they left us a message explaining that they had to shift dates because the cleaning crew that we hired through the company would not be able to fit into our schedule otherwise. They explained that if we did not allow them to start packing when they arrived that we would lose our $750 deposit and we would have to hire another moving company."We left you a message. Sorry. It is today or you lose your $750 deposit." So we let them start packing and signed a contract with a start-date of February 27. The next day would have been our load date, but they never showed up. They arrived February 29. To our surprise, the contract that we signed and have in our possession had been changed by Element to reflect a load date of February 29. Our half of the contract still reflects a load date of February 28 and theirs reflects a load date of February 29. There is very little you can do if something like this happens in the middle of your move. The bottom line is that we did not have the money or the time to argue about the dates or to hire another mover. We had sold our home. We needed to be out of there immediately, so we went ahead and let them load our entire home. After packing everything up, they put our belongings in storage because we did not have to be in Connecticut until mid-April and at this point, we did not even have a new home to which our belongings could be transported. The next hiccup came when Element called us and told us that our street was too narrow for their moving van to access. We would have to pay an additional $1,700 for a shuttle to carry our belongings from the moving van to our home if the distance from the truck to our home was more than 100 feet. We said no, we would carry them ourselves if the distance was more than 100 feet, which we did not think it was. We were okay with this because we (accurately) belived that the distance from the truck to our home was less than 100 feet. It said in our contract that the movers would carry our goods up to 100 feet for no additional fee, so we were fine. The ship date was our next issue. Despite many pleas for a week's notice prior to shipment (we were driving cross-country with a four year old and a cat) I finally called Element one last time begging for a ship date. I knew that our belongings had left our storage facility, but I had no idea how long it would take the driver to arrive in Westport. We had no idea how many other shipments they were dropping off prior to ours, how many hours a day the driver would be driving, etc. I knew our ship date was approaching the one week mark, yet Element would not return my phone calls to confirm a date. When I finally did get a live voice at Element, I asked once again for a firm ship date. Their response? "Your shipment is there! You have until Thursday (this was Monday) at the latest to meet the driver or we will put your possessions in a storage unit. This will negate the insurance policy you bought, and we won't refund it. Also, you'll have to hire your own movers to actually re-load and unload in your new home if we have to store your belongings." After two full days of accusations between us and Element, they finally agreed to push our shipment date forward by one day to Friday. It was now Tuesday evening. Our contract on our new home did not begin until April 9, so we also had to try and convince our new landlord to let us into our home three days early. She agreed, at a cost of $250 a day. We left Wednesday morning and drove straight through to make it on time. We were reminded by the owner, Elle, that our belongings would be placed in a storage unit if we were not there to meet the driver on Friday morning, April 6, at 8:00 am. If we were late, Element would no longer be financially responsible for any missing, broken or damaged items. We made it to our new home at 7:00 am on April 6. The driver arrived at 12:30 pm. He was held up in traffic in New York City. The driver looked at our street and quickly determined that it was, in fact, too narrow for his van. We agreed, as it was very narrow. Our contract stated that Element would move our belongings from the truck to our home up to 100 feet. Anything over 100 feet would cost us greatly. The driver did not measure the distance and admitted that it appeared to be less than 100 feet, HOWEVER, he was instructed by the owner, Elle Nesher, to place our belongings right outside of the moving truck, in the middle of an intersection. We were not prepared for this. We assumed that what was written in our contract would be honored. It was not. The driver was acting on direct orders from the owner, and though we pointed out that the distance was clearly less than 100 feet, he would not budge. My husband and I had to carry the entire contents of our home ourselves while the delivery men sat and smiled at us. They refused to stay once everything was unloaded so that we could at least check our inventory sheets to make sure everything was delivered. We had marked about five items that we could see were entirely broken or damaged beyond repair. Upon unloading, we found my husband's $700 jacket that was being used to "securely" wrap an expensive vase. Element had run out of wrapping paper and had wrapped our breakable goods with our own clothing. It was not until after they left that we discovered four boxes of items we had checked off of the inventory list actually belonged to someone else. That meant that at least four of our boxes had not arrived at all. We notified Element's owner promptly, and the next day one of the movers (we later found out that the move was actually contracted out to an entirely different company) showed up in his car with a box of our belongings. He said if we wanted what was in the box (we had no idea of the contents) then we would have to give back one of the boxes that didn't belong to us. We did what he asked and he left. We were still in the process of taking inventory of our shipment when we discovered that our entire collection of china (Philipe Deshoulieres, valued at about $4,000) was nowhere to be found, nor was a large portion of our crystal. Not only did Element fail to deliver our household goods safely, as several high-end items, including my husband's Ducati motorcycle, were broken, but they failed to deliver some items at all. We are still waiting on those boxes, but we don't expect to see them. Nor do we expect that Element will live up to its contract and replace the lost boxes. Elle was extremely accusatory when we confronted her with the lost boxes and she demanded a receipt from the china. As it was inherited from my grandmother, we do not have a receipt. Apparantly, this too negates the insurance policy, according to Elle. It is now May 18, 2012 and we have not been given a single update as to the status of our missing boxes. We provided Element the box numbers from the inventory list and sent a picture of what it looks like. We have learned a valuable (around $15,000) lesson in all of this. Read your contract, re-read your contract, and then read it again. If it sounds fishy, it is. If it is written only in the best interest of one party, don't sign it. Don't assume any company will live up to their end of the contract, if doing so will cost them a penny, without being forced in a court to do so.
Description of Work: Element packed, stored and transported our household goods from Dallas, Texas to Westport, Connecticut. Upon arrival in Westport, Connecticut, they unloaded our belongings from their truck onto the intersection nearest our home. I used the word "intersection" because our goods were not actually delivered to our home. They were literally placed right next to the truck in the middle of an intersection (Harbor Road and Rowland Place in Westport, Connecticut). The service began on February 27, 2012, when Element arrived to pack our goods, and ended on April 6, 2012, when Element unloaded our goods.

Response from Element Moving & Storage
On the day of the delivery, she did not want to spend the additional money to get her items directly to her home since the trailer driver could not get the large truck close to her home. She was aware of the additional fees and agreed- in writing- that she wanted the driver to drop her household goods of at the nearest safe place for the driver to park the truck and that she would have her labor take the items to her home. She researched our company and chose our services based on our excellent service. We have never had as many issues as we have had with her move, simply because she changed her scope of work over and over (including pickup and delivery dates) and because she did not have the money have her move completed as planned. Her move was scheduled for 2/27. In fact, she even signed on that date prior to her move. We called her at least 5 times to confirm the move and she did not answer. We sent the crew in any case because we didn’t want to not show up on the date scheduled. When we got there they were upset that we arrived a day early. We asked her husband if he wanted us to come back the next day and he said his wife was the problem here, she didn’t have her phone on and that we should continue the job This had nothing to do with the cleaning crew. We came as scheduled. We did not shift anything. She was aware of the chance there might be a shuttle needed. We said we would our best to get the truck to her home, but in case we could not, there would be an additional charge. She was fully aware of the possible charged before her move. She said they simply did not have the money so she wanted to do it herself. We even have an email from her stating that she is aware that of the additional charge and that if the truck cannot reach the house she wanted to hire her own movers to save money. She wanted us to unload at the closest safe place to her home. We did exactly what she said. What she did not mention was that they wanted their items early, so we went out of our way to get them there early and then she said that she never said that. We have phone records to prove that. Even after hearing the phone calls again, she still denied it. She has tried to twist each and every issue against us when in fact she is the one who made so many changes. We notified then when the shipment was loading and told them when the items would arrive in CT, and she even denied that. We have facts and proof to show that we didn’t lie to them or try to deceive them. She even said she not know when the items were loading and one of the conversations she had with Sheila, she said “your items are loading now”. She wanted to leave her dining set in Dallas and Sheila personally went to the truck and made sure the dining set was off the truck. She was very aware her items were loading then. She said that they were leaving Dallas and would be in VA, which is only a few hours away and when we were ready to deliver they would be very close by. Later we found out the Erin didn’t leave Dallas when she said she would so we were forced to wait for her until she was in CT. Element did not charge her for any waiting time. When the driver arrived, he did measure the distance. It was 190 ft and he came as close as he could to the destination. Regarding the missing items, she checked off the inventory list and everything was present at delivery. I have asked her to file a claim form and she refuses. We cannot progress until we receive a claim form. Filing a false claim on an interstate move is a federal crime, so she should think carefully before accusing Element of things we did not do. We tried very hard to satisfy her but it seems she is just very angry and past the point that we can help her. The only thing we can do at this point is take care of her claim, which we offered to do many times but she refuses. Elle Nesher -President

They charged me too much. They gave me a price and I thought that's what the price was going to be. When they delivered the stuff, they wanted more and they were really deceiving. They picked up at my old address, stored it and then on the day of my move in the condo, they brought it down. The crew was really professional but the sales person was not.
Description of Work: I used Element Moving and Storage in April of 2011 for moving. They also did some storage for me.
