I called on May 13 to cancel my service and told them there was absolutely no way I would remain a customer. They did not cancel the service as requested, and have continued to bill me. I had to call again and cancel again, but because they still had a record of the original call I told them I would not pay for an additional month's service. I had already given them 30 days notice of my cancellation.
Description of Work: I had been a customer of ADT, and was cancelling my service.

We used ADT for several years without issue. When we relocated to a temporary apartment we had a system installed and monitored. Our understanding was that the services were being moved over from our old location, where we had fulfilled our contract. We when went to cancel our services (since it was a temporary apartment), we were told we had to pay a $700 cancellation fee for terminating the contract. There was no way we would have intentionally signed a 3-year agreement for a temporary space and their representative only went over the monthly charge with us (which was the same as our prior location). ADT has been awful about this, stating only that we signed a 3 year agreement (buried in the 4th paragraph of the agreement and contrary to what we had been told). I would stay clear from ADT at all costs as a monitoring company. What a horrible experience. One of the worst I can remember with any service provider.

I thought everything was great and I thought I was getting a good deal. After a few months, I encountered multiple accounting issues and I found the same system for half of the price that they charged me. I did not realize I was signing a three year contract and I felt that it was very deceiving. I have been very disappointed with this company. I would not recommend this company to anyone. The customer service is not helpful at all and causes way too much trouble.
Description of Work: I purchased a big deal for this company to come to my home and install a home security system.

I would NEVER recommend ADT Security to anyone wanting a company with reliable and trust-worty service. The Sales Rep, Victoria Willis, lied. Her attitude and disposition were highly unprofessional, and her lack of response has been just plain ride. The installation department is discourteous, given no consideration to people's time. The Customer Service department talks to you as if they are reading a script and nothing more. DO NOT WORK WITH ADT. 11/7/2012 Update: In filing our official complaint with the Better Business Bureau, we have discovered that there are over 1600 complaints about this local ADT office in the last 12 months! More than 4000 in the last 3 years!
Description of Work: Where to begin about this HORRIBLE experience... Background: We purchased a house that had a functioning ADT system in it. We called to transfer the service into our names, but were told that we had to meet with a Sales Rep - Victoria Willis. An appointment was made and we met with the Ms Willis on 9/8 in the afternoon. We were given paperwork -- this included a 3 year contract with (1) a 3-day Opt Out period and (b) a 6-month money back guarantee if we weren't satisfied. We have also received more than 15 mailed solicitation from ADT for service, many of which have a big gold seal stating "100% Satisfaction Guaranteed". Then we were told that an installer had to come out to check the system and set it up for us. We questioned this because we knew it worked -- it went off when we entered the house with our realtor the first time. All we needed was to have the keypad reprogrammed, and from prior experience with other alarm systems, we knew this could be done over the phone. We were told that the installer must come out and that they would get back to us about an appointment. Because of our work schedules, we were on a tight time frame and told the Ms. Willis that it needed to be done within a week or we wouldn't take the service. A deadline was given of 9/15. On 9/11, we tried to contact the Sales Rep (Victoria Willis) because we had not heard from anyone, including her, about the installation appointment. We questioned the 3-day Opt Out period and she told us "I can get it extended if necessary". We have this in a text message. We also had a phone conversation with her telling her that we couldn't go forward without a confirmation of the install date and that we didn't want to get locked into the contract. She reminded us about ADTs the 6 month guarantee if we weren't happy. She assured us that the install would happen and asked us to be patient. Attempts to contact her and confirm a date went on for 4 more days with minimal reply. More phone calls, more texts and no appointment. We told her we wanted out. On Saturday morning, 9/15 at about 8am, the phone rang -- it was the installer saying he was on his way! No appointment, no advanced warning. He arrived, spent several seemingly unnecessary hours -- costing my husband a freelance job that he had to back out of -- and didn't even complete everything because he didn't have a particular part in his truck!!! He said he would have to come back. Our scheduled wouldn't free up again for about 3 weeks because of work and travel. The Sales Rep, Victoria Willis, claimed she had no way to control the installation process -- isn't that what we had been waiting all this time for??? So now we are past the 3 day Opt Out, but within the 6 month Money Back Guarantee period. We have called ADT's main # to cancel and been told that we can't. We have been told that the Sales Rep does not have the authority to extend any kind of Opt Out period, nor does she have the authority to cancel the contract. We have been transferred to multiple phone reps who ultimately say "Unfortunately, you cannot cancel without being financially responsible for the balance of the contract" -- they say "Unfortunately" so many times, they appear to be reading from a script. We have asked to speak to supervisors. We get transferred to voice mail. We left a message that was never returned. We have attempted to contact the Sales Rep, Victoria Willis, multiple time -- she either doesn't call back or texts some simple answer that basically says "be patient". It is her LIE that the Opt Out period could be extended that put us in this situation. Nothing has been done. We are know filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and we will also be sending a letter to the head of the company. Because we already owned the system, we did not pay an install fee. We have paid 2 months of service fees -- that's the $70 referenced. We do not want our money back, but we want our names off this contract. We have cancelled the bank card attached to the account -- yet another inconvenience to deal with in an attempt to resolve this. We want ADT to live up to their satisfaction guarantees. There is nothing that can be done to salvage this. We just want out. And as a sidebar, when the installer was scheduled to come back out to finish the job he NEVER SHOWED UP.

The initial install was part of the remodel of the house. I was not present. The "upgrade" was scheduled for October 2011. We never proceeded but bills and collection calls kept coming and it took extreme effort on my part to resolve the dispute in my favor. I came close to legal action.
Description of Work: we had a sloppy installation with frequent false alarms and expensive service calls. ADT then sent a representative who suggested that we upgrade the system to resolve the false alarms. The upgrade was scheduled for Oct 2011. When the technician arrived, he informed me that the control panel would have to be moved and that the price quoted for the upgrade would not cover this change. We cancelled the upgrade but got a bill in March 2012 for the "upgrade". It took 2 months and several e-mails and phone calls to resolve the erroneous bill for $800. Customer service and responsive was very poor. I will cancel my service when the contract term expires. What a disappointing experience!

I have been overall satisfied with my experiences with ADT. They have done everything I have asked them to. They most recently changed how the system was being monitored. They responded promptly. They got it done correctly the first time.

After using ADT for several years with no major incident, our alarm panel started turning off because of a power issue. After calling the service center and making an appointment (two days later), a service tech showed up (between 12 and 5) and said it was a battery issue and replaced the battery. Later that day I get another call from ADT that they are getting a no power signal, and I should wait until I get home to let the battery charge enough to re-set. After getting home at 6pm there was still no power to the keypad and I called the service center yet again. After going through the possible issues (unplug the system, check the breaker, etc,) she says it must be in the plug box and do I want to make an appointment for 2 days later between 12 adn 5pm. I think this issue should have been resolved with my first service call that I scheduled and shouldn't have to be without my alarm for another 2 days. Why send people that don't know what they're doing to fix my alarm? This means to me that not only is my time not valuble but they are willing to waist it not once but twice! I asked if someone could come out the same day as we had already waited for two days and the prob wasn't fixed. Her responce "uh, its 6pm on a Friday, no one's gonna show up today... I can make an appointment for Tuesday between 12 and 5" Thanks alot.
Description of Work: tech came to check for possible power issues with the alarm panel, the battery, the little box plugged into the outlet, etc. stayed about ten minutes, changed the battery and left.

Description of Work: Had house broken into and went with ADT since we don't have a land line and wanted an alarm system to work with cell service. ADT is not cheapest but seem so far to be good quality and professional outfit.

The experience has been great. They came when they said they would. They did what they said they were going to do. They did the job fast. There was an existing system they just used their monitors. They did the job in about half a day. The solicitation was annoying but the installation and service has been fine.

I thought that they were not going to be up to fixing the alarm system that was already there. I thought that they were going to make me pay for a new one. They were happy to do it and they did it perfectly and quickly. I am extremely satisfied with their willingness to help me out. They did a great job
Description of Work: They installed an extra keypad for an alarm system that was previously installed in my new house. We had the alarm system and the wiring was already there. They came in and added a keypad and got the alarm system up and running.

We've never had to use them in terms of responding to an alarm, but everything about them has been satisfactory. It is very comforting to know that we will be protected if we're ever threatened in some way. Everything is spelled out very clearly in our contract with them and that is helpful.

The guy that came out to perform the service was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. The installation tech was very quick and did the work quite efficiently. I do get a discount with ADT through my insurance agency, USAA.
Description of Work: ADT installed a few extra contacts on some new windows that I had installed. They also installed and upgraded 2 keypads and added 2 motion sensors to my system. The price reflects the amount I paid for the upgrade.

The salesman was nice, but did not return phone calls promptly. I had to leave messages repeatedly before he would return a call. The installer was friendly and efficient, although he did make a hole in the roof during the installation process. The Customer Monitoring Center is very helpful and eager to answer questions and offer assistance.

Half price discount through USAA. On time installation. Courteous, professional installer. I would rather not have had to have the service, but I appreciate the discount. I also wanted CO detection, but it was extra cost and there was not a package that allowed swapping motion detection for it; we did not want motion detection because of pets.
Description of Work: Installed fire and alarm system recommended by USAA Insurance and to cover hard-wired fire alarm requirement of city code.

I've had the system or a number of years. When I had a new front door installed, the installer broke a wire. ADT said it would cost $25 for travel, $107 service fee, and $27.50 for every half hour that the tech was out. I just think those prices are way too high. Their monthly fee is fine, but this charge was too high.

OVERALL, THE EXPERIENCE WITH ADT SECURITY MONITORING SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT. THE SECURITY SYSTEM IS RUNNING GREAT. WHEN OUR MOTION DETECTOR SOUNDED THE ALARM, ADT CONTACTED US AND DISPATCHED THE LOCAL POLICE.

THE SALESMAN WAS PROFESSIONAL, KNOWLEDGEABLE AND NOT PUSHY. THE INSTALLATION WENT FINE AND I WAS IMPRESSED WITH THEIR SERVICE AND WITH ADTS MONITORING SERVICE AS WELL. I THINK THEIR MONITORING SYSTEM IS SECOND TO NONE. THEY SEND US HELPFUL NEWSLETTERS AND ENCOURAGE US TO TEST OUR SYSTEM.
