I had extensive deck repair and siding repair that was needed. The deck needed new concrete piers, structural enhancement, and leveling. Their carpenter came out and provided several options regarding the repairs. Their team was responsive and fast and I am happy with the results. They did great quality work and finished the job sooner than expected.

Tried to schedule but they wanted to charge me a trip charge and then said it would take several hours and two men to complete my project. The deal was useless to me.

We do not charge a trip charge but we do charge $150 for the first two hours of service as specified on our website, our coupons, and in every conversation we have to set up appointments. We recommend that potential customers of BAH know what they're buying before they make a purchase.

It was okay. They were very nice when they finally came. My biggest complaint is that they don’t work all weekend which I had to wait over a month until I had a day off during the week. I’ve never heard of a handyman company that doesn’t work on weekends. For me, that’s a very big disadvantage. The work they did was good and they were pretty efficient. They seem to do a good job. They didn’t quite get as much done as I thought they would. I guess the project was as bigger than they thought it was going to be or whatever but the 2 small projects they got done. I’m happy I had the things done they got done. They were pretty picky about their timing I thought for a handyman. We’ve had handyman before and they usually work all kinds of hours because that’s what they do. They do small project for people and it’s the convenience of having someone to come out. I asked if they could come out at 4:00 because I could be here at 4:00 almost any day and they said no because it was too late and it was just an hour job. They did fine. They didn’t work quickly but they did work efficiently. They did give me the coupon rate which was nice. They didn’t charge me full rate even though I had to pay extra. I got good advice and know what to do. They did a good job. They knew what they were doing.

Paid for the service; the provider said,"oh, you want electrical, that will cost you $75/hr..." straight up bait and switch.

Fact: The description of the coupon says "Coupon does not cover plumbing or electrical work" Fact: Within 44 minutes of receiving notification from the Rapid Response Message Center that this customer purchased a coupon, we responded with a reminder, "Please note that one of the conditions of the coupon is that it does not include plumbing or electrical work. We can certainly do all of what you need, but plumbing and electrical work would not be covered by the coupon." Fact: In our next message we said: "..., we can do it all but our plumbing and electrical rate is $75 per hour. I understand you didn't realize that when you bought the coupon. If you want, we could give you credit for one hour of electrical for your coupon." Fact: We also immediately informed our Angie's List Big Deal representative and we explained to the customer how he could obtain a refund if he wished to do that. Fact: The way the ad is worded and designed is done by Angie's List copy writers. We check the ad for accuracy before it is run. There is nothing wrong with the ad. Bottom Line: It's easy to be mean and cry "bait and switch" but the fact is the customer just didn't read the ad. Most people know plumbing and electrical work is far more expensive than handyman work. If you order a hamburger and expect to get a steak, who's fault is it?

The overall experience was fantastic. Best Austin Handyman promptly returned my call for service and scheduled me out about a week. The onsite service was great, Jarrod did everything I asked and then some. He ended up going over our two hours by an hour but this was agreed upon before he started. He was able to stain our outside pergola and two separate flights of pressure treated wood stairs. We will use this company in the future around the house.
Description of Work: We hired this company to finish a job staining our rough cedar pergola along with two staircases outside.

Attic stair replacement was done well and pull-down door functions smoothly. Contractor used owner-supplied spare, stained wood to trim the perimeter. This wood trim was also professionally installed. The interior door preparation was nicely done and looked good. Hanging them was not a problem and everything fit well. They also cleaned and swept all work areas and disposed of old attic access door, which was appreciated. The final invoice did not differentiate billing rates for the two individuals. The same rate was applied to both when one individual seemed to be "journeyman" and the other his helper or "apprentice". Not sure that the type of work done by each person dictated the same billing rate. For this reason, "Price" above was rated lower. One individual also arrived a little late but was evidently due to miscommunication as the type of work required on attic access.
Description of Work: Replaced broken wooden attic access stairs with access door with aluminum steps. They also prepared two hollow core interior doors for installation by mortising slots for hinges and boring holes for knobs and latches. The first coat of paint was also applied to each door.

Called for an estimate. Barrett came by on a weekend after a reschedule conflict within a few days of my initial call. He was able to provide labor costs on site based on his knowledge of the projects so I did not have to wait a week for a labor estimate. He said could start as soon as a week out. Barrett said the work would take 3 days, and by the end of day 3 the project was completed. I told them what materials I was purchasing and they said they would get the rest as needed throughout the project. The estimate was comparable to two similar handyman services that I also got quotes from. Jonathan and Mike Tex arrived on time every day and clearly led the crew the completion. Everyone was very nice and treated my home like it was their own. The estimates on how long each part of the project would take were spot on. I was most impressed by the level of clean up daily. Every evening when I returned home everything was cleaned up and put away. Each day I inspected the work done and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of work I was seeing. I am very picky on quality and I have ZERO complaints. On the day of completion I came home early to inspect the work and pay the team. I could not believe how beautiful and clean the area was. It looked like a professional cleaning crew had come in. These guys are fantastic! I have already recommended them to two other people and plan to rehire them for an outdoor project later this fall.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. He came out and did a wonderful job. We purchased it in March but we didn't have them come out until the end of May or the start of June but they did an excellent job. The fellow that they sent out was really good at what he did and they provided exactly the service that we needed and he was willing to go above and beyond if we needed him to but it wasn't necessary. I was very pleased with him. We plan on using them again. He did an excellent job and did all of it in a timely manner. He did have to go over to Home Depot and pick up a couple of items but that was to be expected but not deeply expensive. It was not over and beyond so that wasn't a negative thing. That was probably expected that he was going to have to do because we knew we didn't have what he was going to need there at the house. They had told us that once he got there and he didn't have what was needed in the truck, would it be okay with him going and getting what we needed and then reimbursing them with the cost. We said, "Absolutely" so that was no problem.
Description of Work: We used Best Austin Handyman & Remodeling to do some basic things. We had just recently moved into a new home and he did several things for us. He put up curtain rods and towel rods and did quite a few things. He did some baseboard work and we had quite a long list of all the different things he did for us. He put up some mirrors in the bathroom and different things like that.

We had to call them a number of times to find out when the plans would be ready. Finally, on August 1, Barrett showed up, he thought I had the plans, I did not. He contacted his company and they emailed the plans to us while Barrett was still here. Upon reviewing them, the plans were nothing like we had discussed with Jay. We then explained to Barrett what we wanted, he said it would be a very easy job. He would have the plans to us by the following Monday. Monday came and went. A week came and went. I called the office, left messages, I emailed the office and asked them to get back with me with the revised plans and the estimate. I have copies of the emails I sent them. I did get a phone message from Barrett stating he had given the assignment to the new architect and she was suppose to get it to us. His message also stated that he had been on vacation and "when the boss is out of town everybody does what they want..." and that he'd send a confirmation email and I'd have the plans in the next few days. No plans. In mid September, I finally called from a different phone and got a real person to talk to! I explained what had happened - or not happened - and she said she would have someone get back to us. No one did. Sept. 13, 2013, I called again and spoke to Barrett, he said he had emailed the plans to me when he said he would back in August. I told him I had never received them. I told him about the emails and the phone calls that went unanswered. He said he was surprised because they always get back to their customers because they want to keep their A rating with Angie's List. He said maybe he sent it to the wrong email address and proceeded to tell me where he sent it. It was not my email, almost my email address, but not quite. Now, remember, I've been emailing the company, they emailed me the original wrong set of plans, so they had my email address. He said he would send the plans to the correct email address by close of business that evening. No plans. No plans received the following week. Since September 13th, I've since called the company twice and told them to forget about the plans and just give me my money back. I have not heard from them. I contacted with them because they were highly recommended on Angie's List and I wanted a new deck in my backyard. I am totally disappointed in the unprofessional way this company has treated me.
Description of Work: I contracted for a deck design April 16, 2013. I explained that we would be out of town and would call to schedule the architect's visit in very early summer. Jay, the architect, came to the house and listened to what we wanted, he took his time measuring the yard, and left. This is the only "service" this company provided. When we finally saw the plans, they were NOTHING like what we had discussed with Jay.

I had 5 jobs completed by 2 different handymen on 2 different days. The first guy came to fix just a screen door. He fixed but he accidentally cut the screen. It needed to be redone so they sent another handymen out, and if I needed anything else done he would do it. I talked to them before they came out, I wanted him to do the screen and 4 other small repairs and installations. They second guy did a good job on the screen, he installed 2 faucets, one of which had to be tweaked a few days later by a plumber so it would work right. He installed a metal strip on the garage wall for an organization system. He told me that he did not install it exaclty how it needed to be installed but it would be ok. He also fixed a crack in the driveway, and reattached an outside stair railing to a concrete step. He did a good job on the last. The 2 gentleman that came out were courteous and nice, just not satisfied with the overall work that was completed.

This was an overall bad experience with this contractor. No matter what was done to try to put the situation right, it still left a bad taste in our mouths. Which Is why it has taken so long to write this review. The job started off fantastic. The designer of the patio was brilliant. He designed exactly what we wanted. Then the work started. We specifically requested that they not drive through our neighbors yard . First thing to happen, they drove through our neighbors yard with a bobcat. My husband had a few choice words to say to them. Then, they poured the concrete. Which was done by driving back and forth on a bobcat from the front of our house to the back of our house with the bucket full of concrete. We were initially told that up they would be laying plywood down to drive on. They layed 2x3s....for a bobcat. All that did was dig bigger ruts in our yard. The concrete dripped all over our driveway and into the street. The concrete truck driver was even yelling at them for making such a mess. While driving the bobcat through tithe yard, they crushed three of our sprinkler heads as well. That lasted until 10:30pm on a Thursday night. Not a word said about the time or the mess left behind. Mind you, the concrete was not even close to level. And, the last bucket was dumped over our fence into the alleyway behind the house. Our side yard and backyard were ruined. All the grass was gone. The next morning, our yard looked like a bomb had gone off in the yard. There was trash and tools everywhere and no one was coming back until the next week. My husband is a contractor. If they are putting a power line in someone's yard, they leave it the same way it was when they got there. We called Barrett and he had someone come by and clean up the yard. One of the attempts to "fix" the grass was to put the grass they dug up before laying the concrete in the ruts. That was dead grass by that time! Then, they built the patio cover and pergola, which is beautiful. The paint match they did was great. Now, however, the joints are pulling apart and the main beams are twisting and sagging. There is a gap in the side of our house where the hardi-plank was replaced. We will be calling someone else to fix this problem. We were able to come to an agreement on how to fix the uneven concrete and mess of a yard, after some negotiation. This project that was supposed to take 1 week ended up taking 3 and a half weeks.

This was a miserable experience for us. We will never work with these customers or customers like them again. When the husband screamed at our designer and threatened to shoot a number of our employees and bury them in his backyard we should have ended the relationship right then and there, but we felt we could maybe deal better with the wife. Not so much... every problem mentioned in her review was an actual problem we dealt with but not how she wrote it. The trashed yard was to be expected from the nature of their project and we paid their landscaper to replace all of it. We were surprised that the husband didn't know that a Bobcat would cause damage to grass given his background in construction. The uneven concrete and working late into the night was a result of a late concrete delivery over which we had no control. To fix this we refloated the slab and installed new tile at their request and our expense. The extended time frame of the project was due to a week of rain. Even the husband agreed it wouldn't be a good idea to open up the side of their home while it was raining so we delayed the project with their approval. We are surprised they are having issues with their patio cover. We always warranty our work and would have gladly made any repairs necessary should they have been requested. In construction there are problems that come up, and as we do with all our customers, we did everything we could to leave these folks with what we originally agreed on at the price we promised. It cost us dearly in this case to stand behind this promise but we did learn that not every customer is for us.

I originally scheduled with them for noon. They called a little before that and asked if we could do it later, so we re-scheduled for that same day at 1:30. Just before 1:30 the handyman called to say he was hung up on a job in town, that he might not be done until 2:30-3:00. I had already done a lot of shuffling around of things in the house to prepare for the work I needed done, so rather than re-scheduling for a different day I waited. The guy got here at 3:40. He apologized for being so late and assured me that he would stay as long as I needed him. I showed him what I wanted caulked and he started work. He was quite careless with his ladder and caulk gun, and I had to ask him to be more careful not to bang my walls and woodwork. He seemed in a hurry, despite telling me that he'd stay until the work was done, and I felt that that might have affected the quality of his work. I had to re-do the caulk around the base of one of the light fixtures, as he did not completely seal it. When he was done and it was time to pay, I wanted to use a credit card - website said they accepted them. He said he'd have to call the office so that I could give them the number - but there was no answer at the office. It was about 4:30 on Friday at that point - maybe everyone had left early for happy hour? After repeated rounds of phone tag, I finally was able to give them a credit card number. Even that was unpleasant, as there was a loud, jangling tinny noise coming over the phone from their office. A few days later, Page called from Best Austin to see how my experience had gone. I told her what I just relayed. She apologized and said they would like to make it right with me. That someone from the office would call back in a few days. But no one has. Why did you bother calling, Page? Bottom line - I would not use this company again. Maybe they do a great job most of the time and just get swamped when they do these special deals. But if they don't have the office staff to answer the phones, and if they don't have enough service people to do the calls - then they should not offer the specials to begin with. So my search for a good handyman goes on. Anyone have any suggestions?
Description of Work: I purchased one of their Angie's List specials, two handyman hours for $39.50 each. Needed someone to caulk several places in the house.
