Best Austin Handyman & Remodeling

Arrived on time, worked quickly and didn't spend time on cell phone, work was done to my satisfaction. The deal was for two hours of service and the work took exactly that amount of time.

They did a good job, although we had to ask them to take the old pickets with them when they left. After they left we found a big pile of concrete pieces from the old post that they left for us to dispose of.

Michael and Tyler showed up right on time, got to work as soon as I explained what I wanted and we went over their recommendations. Tyler went to Home Depot nearby whenever necessary to make sure the right supplies were on hand, including matching paint for the exterior. Michael handled the door work in outstanding fashion and Tyler was great with the lights and paint. They cleaned up after themselves and the work done was professional and complete. I'm very satisfied with the results and my doors look better than they have since I bought the house in May. I thought the cost was reasonable for the quality of work done. I would definitely hire both again for future jobs.

The representative Ed., called me and said he was free to come to his appopintment earlier. Whic i accpeted. I had a sliding door with a doggie door on the side. He uninstalled the doggie door and put the door in my atic for me. I have a huge tall tree back in my yard which has 2 flood lamps. The lamps were out, he replaced. I have high ceilings in myhome he changed out 4 of my air filters. He was very conscientious of his work. I was very happy and pleased . I will use this company again.

Derek came over to hang an entry door and install a bathtub. But upon taking the old door off we discovered that the door frame and the entire sill plate across the front of the unit was rotted out. Before I could have a heart attack Derek said, "We can fix this," and he did! Most folks would have looked at the rotted wood and said, "Get this fixed and I'll come back and hang the door." Derek kept me calm as the problem grew from the door frame, to the sill plate, to the framing across the adjacent room. "It's not too bad." Really? My finger was hovering over the panic button. He sent me to the store for supplies and jacked up the wall, pulled out the rotted sill plate and cut new lumber to line up exactly with the sill plate bolts, even sliding new sill plate under the interior wall. I was absolutely astonished. He also hung the door perfectly--straight, square, and air-tight--no mean feat in a shifty old house. We didn't get to the bathtub yet, but I'm just glad I have a door rather than a sheet of plywood nailed over the doorway, which is where I would expect to be given the situation. I'll wait to see when Derek is available again so we can do the tub and fix the drywall.

He advised me it would be best to fill the gaps that had developed with rubber caulk as well as using the tape I'd bought earlier. He made a trip to the nearest Home Depot, bought the caulk and a bunch of large plastic garbage bags. After fixing the leaks, and cleaning the gutters, he then took a sweep broom and swept off all of the leaves that had collected on the sun room roof (which is almost flat) - I think he filled about 10 bags with wet leaves! and then he moved all the bags into the front where I can transfer them one by one to a garbage can to set out for pick-up. All in all, I was completely pleased with his work and would definitely use this business again - probably will even ask specifically for Tyler again as well.

They called several days before the appointment to confirm and once again I stressed the need for a tall ladder to replace the light. The man told me he had a small truck and didn't have a tall ladder. No one at Best Man Handyman had one, which I find very strange. He stayed 3 hours longer and we paid for the extra work and he didn't finish other items we had to do not did he leave a card or ask if we wanted him to come back and finish the work. My first experience with Angie's list has left me very puzzled.

Trevor was hard working and replaced wood trim with Hardee board 1x4s, caulked all joints prior to placement and after. Primed screw heads and painted finish coat.

The service was okay. The man who came out was nice but he was not really terribly energetic or knowledgeable but he helped and he was very willing. He was okay. I did not have a whole lot of really tough things to do but he seemed just kind of like, "Okay, I will do my best." I spent more than what I had purchased the big deal for because we kept the man an hour later and he helped my partner's son to move some stuff and he was very nice about doing it. I think that he charged $40 an hour on top the big deal. He actually worked a little bit longer than that but he did not want to charge us for it. He was nice and congenial but he just did not seem terribly experienced. I needed a bunch of light bulbs that were up high changed and he broke one of the fixtures but that was okay. It was easy to replace and he offered to go get it but I was actually on my way to Home Depot at that time so I said, "No, forget it." It was a $4.75 globe so it was not a big deal. Their price was pretty much the going rate. I guess I would use them again in the future simply because they are known for their quality.

Fixed separation in the drywall in the living room. Installed canned lighting and new light fixture in the kitchen. Re-textured ceiling where original lighting was. The guys were very personable and professional. Sorry we're just now getting around to reviewing them!

They did a great job. They were real nice and attentive.

Mike and Juan are my heroes today! They took a bad situation at my house and quickly turned it into a happy ending. Their work is so well done down to the little details that really made my day. I would absolutely have Mike and/or Juan back to do more work. Thank you for making my day today and allowing the Christmas decorating to begin!

I had told the person who booked the appt that we would likely need 2 guys here for the job, but only one showed up. However, once he assessed the situation, he called and got someone else to join him so that they could do the cabinet job together. After that, they split up to tackle the other 2 projects. As far as I can tell, everything was done as we needed it. Both guys were very responsive to communication and requests, and were professional the whole way through. Would be happy to use this company again.

I had initial problems scheduling a visit, but when they finally came, the work was excellent and very professionally done

That was good. It was a big deal purchase. He did not charge me more than that. He was pretty professional. Overall I gave him a “B” because he couldn’t do one of the things and didn’t give me an alternative.

Our deck has been sadly neglected for several years, and Best Austin Handyman did a phenomenal job taking off many layers of dirt and old paint. We're now ready to stain and seal, and I'm expecting many years of service from our deck now. Thank you!

It went just fine. They were punctual and got me the information that I wanted. They gave me the details for the design. They never called me back on a bid so I’m going to contract it out or do it myself.

I have no idea how long it will take to get my refund but this was my first experience trying to use Angies list and frankly I am EXTREAMLY disappointed!!!

I thought this was a reasonable switch-out. He seemed very honest. He called me because he was running a little bit late. They were very eager to get the job done and asked me if everything looked OK to make sure I was satisfied. They were very cheerful. He was originally supposed to come a different day. He called and needed to reschedule for a different day, which was not an issue. I would definitely hire them again. They do all sorts of handyman work.

He put in shelves for me, he painted them and drywalled them. I would definitely use them again.

They were awesome! He was a really nice guy, very reliable, and the price was very reasonable. I would use him again.

John from Austin Handy Man was great. He was a little surprised by what I wanted to do but then understood completely. I explained that I wanted to allow my cats the opportunity to sit on the back porch in a 5' x 5' kennel but not be able to run free in the back yard. He gave me some advice on how to do parts of the job better. He really improved my idea of what I wanted and taught me new handy man skills. He completed the job within the 2-hour window. I would use John again when the need arises.

Due to Angie List promo they had more work than imagined. Long delay in getting design meeting scheduled. Once scheduled, the designer took her time, made good suggestions, took necessary measurements and left. Promised design time was 2 weeks; it took over 4 weeks and numerous phone calls. The resulting design was a very minimal rendering with no framing or material recommendations. I was told these would be included. I was also told that the deck builders from Austin Handyman would be following up with a design review and quote. After a couple of weeks and no contact, I called and left a message. I never heard from them again. I am using other labor to build my deck now. Probably got what I paid for but not impressed.

It went great. My wife and I are decent DIY-ers and finally decided to tackle our pink guest bathroom. We wanted to work with a handyman who would act more as a partner than a boss since we did most of the demo and plan to tile, etc. However, electrical and plumbing are things that I could ruin, and cause appendages to be burned/severed. We called Best Austin and Barrett came out to give a bid-super quick. This was a Wednesday and we set an appointment for the following since the demo was yet to occur. Then Monday came. Enter DEREK SMITH (ya know, I probably totally butchered his name). Derek is a freaking encyclopedia of amazing handymanness. Not only that, but he's ridiculously thorough and taught me everything I needed to know to complete the renovation. Both guys were great and professional and we plan to give them another call in the future.

I was very pleased with the job that was done. I needed an extra hour because the repair work was actually more complicated than normal (it was fixing a hole in the wall) because of previous work done by another person. He did not charge me for the time it took for him to get supplies nor for the time it took to dry the material covering the hole. I would definitely use this business again.
