Mr. Aaron had told me, when I asked about some changes in lighting fixtures, that we would go over the electrical plan before the electricians started to work. When I met him to discuss the electrical work - the electricians were already working and my changes (which I had noted on our spec sheet at the beginning) now cost me money. This was my first indication that this man could not be trusted. Every time I met him at the house, it was a fast and furious business. He never wrote anything down (except occasionally on the walls or floor). I would send a detailed email with everything I could remember from our walk throughs, trying to document it all. Mr. Aaron told us he would be finished with the house September 30, then October 31, then November 30. Mr Aaron told us the house was ready to occupy on December 1st. On December 1st: we have a bucket in the master shower to catch water due to a dripping shower head, the septic system appears to be sinking, there are holes in the wall of the cottage, there are areas of repaired drywall still unpainted around fans - and this is not an all-inclusive list. His inattention to detail is astounding. He would call and ask something and when I answered, "just look at the plan," he'd ask me to bring my set (assuming, I suppose, that mine were different?). The toilet in the cottage wouldn't drain; Mr Aaron told us it was now working, and it overflowed the first time we used it. When the foundation forms were laid down the dimensions were incorrect causing a loss of space in various rooms. The framers ignored the dimensions of the matching bookcases in the great room giving us two different sized bookcases. The framers also constructed the staircase according to their desire, completely disregarding the blueprint. The laundry room somehow lost two feet in length, due in part to the incorrect size of the foundation. The layout and plumbing of the cottage had to be corrected after the framers were given the wrong plan. We learned from another painter who dropped by early in the construction phase that Mr. Aaron is now taking bids from all the subcontractors - and our home looks like he took the lowest bid he could find. Mr Aaron agreed to build our house according to our plan with the changes we agreed to in the beginning. In the end he was building our house according to his plan, charging extra for several of our previously agreed to changes and skipping over the others. Items in his bid were omitted without our knowlege or consent, i.e. the security system and a seat in the master shower. The shower seat was eventually added the day before we moved in. Several items were added to the plan (because we were not onsite when work was done) and we were charged for them, i.e. twelve recessed lights in living area, three porch lights. A modified plan was presented as proof that we requested these lights, but only the electrician had a copy of this plan. We are greatly disappointed at spending so much money and having been left with such a mess, although most of the discrepancies noted above had been corrected before the final walk through. At present, he's not answering phone calls or emails. We did the final walk through on December 12. After everyone had departed we discovered several items previously discussed that had not been corrected. Update 1/6/2012--We've been in the house for three weeks and have had workers out two times for warranty work, and need to have additional warranty work completed. It took eight days for anyone from Apex to respond to an e-mail request for contact info on the plumber and electrician. We're still waiting for contact info for the septic system and exterior door people. The plumber will have to come back to repair the leaking drain that he "repaired" last week. This is low-budget work at it worst. Update 1/13/2012--The paint on the beadboard cabinet doors shows bare wood underneath in many of the seams. We'll have to repaint/touch-up all the cabinet doors in the bathrooms and powder room.
Description of Work: We hired Tony Aaron of Apex Homes to build our new home. He had already built a rendition of this same home (we had a Southern Living set of blueprints). We took bids from three different builders, did our homework, and chose Apex. He was to build the home per the blueprints we gave him with additions/changes as noted before the building process began.
