"First off the Customer wanted a $5000 job done for $1000. He stated how he could only afford $1500 at the most. My original bid was $2500 and that included everything he wanted done that he is now complaining about. He could not have possibly gotten the job he asked for in the end on a $1500 budget unless I was doing it for free. Materials alone were over 1k. He was extremely happy with the floor until I put the finishing shine on it. And he expressed how it just wasn't shiney enough for him even though this is exactly what I used in a picture of a job I had recently done and he asked for the exact same job. I gave him exactly what our contract agreed on. And then went above and beyond to accommodate him. I even re'did the whole floor for free using the new gloss he requested and at this point I was making no money but wanted to please my customer. I worked night and day to give a happy finish. They then agreed it looked wonderful and we had made plans to paint the walls and I would do baseboards for free because some etching stain was splattered on them. Everything was fine until I just asked the Customer to confirm through a tangible way (text) that those were our arrangements and that I would be paid what was owed apon completion. She called back right away screaming that no she would not text and that they were already out of pocket another $700 which was not in any way my fault. They added extra gloss and materials along the way. She then put her husband on the phone who threatened me and screamed to the point of no understanding and all I was trying to do was confirm that I was painting the next day and the final payment would be made apon completion. Because of all the extra work I had done, we were only going off of verbal communications. I was scared that they would not pay me after him threatening me to not pay me if I didn't give him a shinier floor and telling me not to even try to sue him that between him and his wife they had more money than God. When I told his wife about this outburst she then brought me into her own personal relationships with him and how she was glad that somebody else got to see his rage. She apologized for him and said she loved the floor but unfortunately wed have to please the Customer. I believe that the Customer is an opportunist. He brought me in to do a job, signed my contracts, and then insisted for more work. I did everything for free and did not make one dime off of his job. I even still did the baseboards for FREE after they screamed at me and threatened me. If he would have just accepted my initial bid (and not pretend to be broke upfront, to turn around and brag about how many condos, cars, houses, and corvettes he had) there would have been no issues. So, to any other contractors out there DO NOT DO WORK FOR THIS MAN! He will take advantage of you, try to strong arm you, play like he has no money and then brag about all his houses, corvettes, cars, condos, and how him and his wife have all the money in the world! I've managed to stay in a word of mouth business for a reason. I am a hard working, honest, drug free, alcohol free, smoke free, family man. I will go above and beyond to accommodate! And as far as keeping the receipts and taking pictures, that was to protect myself in the case we would take legal action to get paid. They confirmed the etching looked great through text messages so Im not sure why they are now saying otherwise on that case. Nothing went sour until I just asked them to confirm final payment (via text) when I completed the wall painting and baseboards. Painting their walls was never in the contract and I was doing it for them on good will and to keep their business. They obviously had no intentions on paying me and that is why they would not confirm our verbal agreement in a more tangible way. So therefore, I cleaned up and vacuumed, I painted baseboards for free, and that was that. I had no reason to return."
