To start with, we were mislead and deceived by Ellery on at least one provable issue. Once you tell a lie, everything you say is suspect. There were numerous delays in the project that led to thousands of dollars worth of non-interest fees paid to bank. Lots of excuses and finger pointing at others. Poor communication, poor follow up on supplies and sub contractors. An order was supposedly placed for bathroom shower materials. after three monts, he claimed the store just closed when he went by to check on order status. Didn't show an order invoice, didn't bother to call in three months(???). Really? Never provided subcontractor's or suppliers actual invoices to verify allowances, just his own (all of which were paid by me ASAP). I spent nearly $5,000 on special Cavity Sliders pocket doors for all of their superior features. I linked a video to "The Build Show" video of these doors. The Cavity Sliders Company website Also has a complete installation instruction video. There are also printed instructions in each kit (I needed five). When we moved in, I noticed the pocket doors catching on the pocket framing and asked about this. He said "when we install the guides that will go away" Later when I noted that the doors were not cut for the factory guides he said "they did not come in the kits" I said "they are right there on the instruction sheet of parts included". He responded with a distraction " we had to buy the roller carriages separately". Well, yes, you buy the carriages based on the door weight. None of the details of the installation were followed, negating nearly all of the advantages and high cost of the Cavity Sliders. He didn't have a reasonable reason why he didn't contact me or the factory or retailer about the missing parts, or why the instructions were not followed. Ceiling fans were not placed where noted on their boxes. Many other issues, like poor insulation, in the winter the air blowing in from around windows and doors literally moves your hair. None of these issues were remedied. He had a final "overage" invoice after the final draw of $6000. I asked if I could pay $1000 a month, he responded "we'll worry about that after the work is done". It never was. After much waiting and asking about the punch list, I drew up a termination of contract agreement for him the next time he showed up. After reading it, he took a phone picture. He said, "I don't care about the money, I want you to be happy" Then said he had to confer with his lawyer, and did not take the paper copy. A few weeks later he returned and said his lawyer told him not to sign anything, that I got the better deal because of all the "extra work he did" (how can there be extra work when you haven't finished big issues?) and that he lost motivation because because I wasn't making the monthly payments. It seemed to me he lost his motivation long before the bank paid the final draw. As he walked to his truck, I recalled what he said about paying after the work was complete, and shouted it out the garage door, he smiled, pointed his finger at me, then drove off. This isn't everything, just the big stuff. If you choose them, make sure your contract states a completion time frame, and his responsibility to provide paper receipts, document and inform when subcontractors are late and to follow up on orders he places on your behalf. Lewis was the recommended GC from Honest Abe Log Homes Who got paid ASAP as well. Our dream home ended up being a nightmare. All of the pocket doors will have to be re-worked, I will have to remedy the poor insulation myself and more. DO NOT RECOMMEND Lewis Enterprises. They make excuses, not take accountability.
