The cleaning was done fairly well, but some areas were forgotten. The steps leading downstairs from the kitchen, the dishes in the cabinets, and they just couldn't clean the fixed glass located above my long wall between the living room and the kitchen even after two tries. The services were expertly done; The furniture and upholstery, curtains, pillows, floors, clothing, walls, (they recommended Prestige Cleaners to do dry cleaning) and an entire closet full of clothing was expertly cleaned. I would use Service Masters again and recommend them to family and friends.
The fans were loud and my dog was a nervous wreck, but that was the full extent of the upheaval in my house. I was very upset about the water damage and feared the worst in terms of remediation and repair. The reality was so much more pleasant than my imagination!
I called them at 6:30 on a Monday morning after a plastic water filter cartridge under my sink broke in the middle of the night and must have run for several hours. My moulding was the fake stuff (not wood) and was already starting to swell. They said they'd have someone there around 9, and I threw I minor hissy fit (and quot;I called your service because it said 24 hours!and quot;). A person arrived at about 7:15 to do the extraction. Another crew came about an hour later and used a humidity meter to test where there was moisture on the wall and what baseboards had to be removed. Most areas it was clear where there had been standing water, but some areas were very damp because there was water behind the wall that you couldn't see. There was water in places I hadn't even realized. They ran dehumidifiers and fans for three days. During the water extraction and demo work, the folks I dealt with did an excellent job of staying professional and calm when I was becoming panicked and obnoxious. It's nauseating to see people rip up the house even if it is for a very good reason (we had literally just had the whole house painted), and all I could see was money going doing the drain. I felt they handled my outbursts very well and responded with clear communication of what they were doing and why it needed to be done. I feel like they gave me very good advice.
The extration machine (a big vacuum) scratched my stained and polished concrete floors. They immediately admitted fault to that, and have been very response to making it right. While I haven't had it fixed yet, a representative has come out to discuss our options, and I have received several calls making sure it's being addressed. They've had great follow up. I will update this report when it is complete.
My only quibble was that I had to pay this out of pocket (my deductible was very high), and I had no indication of how much this would all cost. The answer to my questions were basically, and quot;It varies.and quot; For example, I didn't realize there was a disposal fee (it was nominal but I would have just thrown it away at my trash, there wasn't a whole lot), and there was an after hours fee (apparently 7:15 a.m. is after hours). But on the whole, the folks knew I was paying out of pocket, and for the most part they cleared every hole and linear foot of baseboard removed.
At the end of the day, my walls aren't ruined from moisture that seeped up into the dry wall, my house doesn't smell like mold, and no one has any allergies from weird fungus growing in damp particle board.
