The estimator came out to our home and met with me and gave me a written estimate with options for good, better, and best for new units. I checked around with two other mechanical contractors and their price was the lowest. I called to tell him I wanted to go with them and we scheduled the work for the next week. The work crew came on the morning they were scheduled and were polite and professional. They immediately got to work and had my downstairs unit replaced the first day. The work was done correctly, just as I expected. The next day they were back, right on time, and got to work on the upstairs unit replacement. Again, by the end of the day, they were finished and everything was working properly. They instructed me on use of the thermostats and left instruction booklets for each. They worked hard, even taking turns for a lunch break, so that the work continued. Then a couple of days later I got a bill in the mail for the exact amount that the estimate was. No hidden charges or anything. I would definitely recommend them and will use them for service.
Description of Work: They replaced both an upstairs and downstars heating and air unit.

The entire process was handled promptly and very professionally. The proposed prices were competitive, and installation was completed in a single day. The four person installation crew was very competent and quick. The removal and clean-up process was outstanding. Overall we were very well satisfied with the entire experience.
Description of Work: Replaced split system, gas and electric HVAC. Removed and disposed of existing components. Installed Rheem gas furnace, AC unit, cooling coil and Aprilaire air cleaner.

There was a feature that hadn't been activated since the system was installed. The serviceman guided me through the setup and sent me the printed set of directions so that I could do it on my own in the future. He had to go through some effort to get the information. He called me back when he said he would. He was very thorough. He didn't seem annoyed that I was taking up his time.
Description of Work: I called them, and they instructed me on how to make adjustments to my thermostat.

If you have had to buy one you know how expensive they are. They gave us a CVA incentive plan so we got cash back. They also had a promotion going on that we got One Thousand Dollars back so the incentives were great. They were here, they redid our system for our heating downdraft, they were great. The were in and out. It took all day but they are good.
Description of Work: Our heater went out and they came in and replaced it. They were excellent .

The sales person, Neil, was professional, respectful, and responsive. He gave me three choices: good, better, and best. When I had some questions after talked to my father-in-law, a professional engineer, Neil tweaked the "better" (middle cost) alternative and provided a 4th estimate (I wanted "best" but not a "best" that used a heat pump as I wanted "gas only" after talking with my father-in -law) that met my needs/desires very well. He got that estimate to me very quickly via email and it was clear and clearly priced. I got 4 estimates and Chancey and Reynolds was the best overall in both price, quality (I like Rheem and I like gas-only units that are well sized for my house). To make the deal even better, they had an AprilAire in-line filter as a freebie for Angie's List customers. I would have gone with C&R without the filter (by far) but that was an extra sweetener. So their sales, "response to RFP" process was great. The installers arrived as scheduled at 8:30 and began work on time. They did a fine job. They removed all the old stuff and hauled it off (promptly the end of the job). Their installation was a nice, clean job that looks great and works great. The installers wore little booties to cover their shoes when they had to come into the house to access the thermostat, check the registers for air flow, etc. They were careful not to track dust/dirt into the house. The guys were friendly, even when I looked over their shoulders and asked what were probably annoying questions. They even fixed my broken dryer vent that was blowing lint near the outside compressor even though that wasn't in the scope of the job. At the end, the A/C part of the outside unit had some small problem with the configuration that they could not figure out. They called one of their expert repair techs, who diagnosed and subsequently fixed the problem (the next day after the supplier re-opened as this was over the New Year's weekend, which was no problem I didn't need A/C at that time of year and the heat was working just fine). After the tech got the part and fixed the configuration problem, he told me to call in the Spring when weather was warm so they could check the Freon charge and correct as necessary (at no charge, of course). Bottom line, they did a wonderful job at a very reasonable price, lower than the competition (and that's before the free air filter). I highly recommend Chancy and Reynolds based on my experience with them as just described.
Description of Work: Chancey and Reynolds replaced my old HVAC system with a new Rheem HVAC system including the furnace (heat exhanger), compressor, in-line air filter, venting, supply/return duct work connections to the unit, condensate pump, and thermostat. They did a fantastic, top-notch job from sales to installation to tuning/tweaking the system after installation. I'm extremely pleased.

They were inspecting to see if my ducts needed repair. They cut holes in the ceiling to see if there was any damage. They repaired the holes in the ceiling. I thought it was really expensive because they were only here for a few hours. They were nice and polite. They were on time.

They were very friendly and did a nice job.
Description of Work: They came out to check my 2 home units. They flushed the coils and did routine maintenance on the main level, the first time it had been done in many years, and replaced the upstairs unit which was old and had stopped working. They put in a 2.5 ton Rheem 13 SEER unit.

I requested got quotes from 5 different companies. I got quotes form 4 of them. This company was the next to the lowest price (after Rheem rebates). Research showed most high end manufacturers units had similar reliability. Workmen were competent and professional. I was on site during the entire process. First unit went in in one day. Second dual fuel unti went in the next week. Only problem was with new thermostats workers had little experience with them so a couple of service calls wer required before they were configured liek we wanted them.
Description of Work: Removed two exterior heat pumps, two interior air handlers, two thermostats and 1 gas furnace. Replaced all of these with new equipment. Replaced line from heat pump to dual fuel air handler. Rerouted water condensate line to exterior. Expanded cold air return duct work.

Bid out purchase and installation of a new 3.5 Ton energy efficient heat pump system; four firms provided quotes. Chancey & Reynolds selected for the job. The Rheem system they installed was comparable to the high end from any manufacturer. Chancey & Reynolds received the job due to their reputation for quality work and their williness to remove an ancient system, re-work all of the ducting for the new system as well as that for a second heat pump system which had been installed - very poorly - about four years ago. In short, they did absolutely everything they commited to in a meticulously detailed work order - and then some. The workmanship was excellent as was the quality of all ancillary materials (ducting, sealing, insulation, etc.). They arrived right on time, finished exactly as they had scheduled, and the cost was as quoted. All old materials and trash were completely removed and all areas in the crawl space and outdoors were thoroughly cleaned and left 'ship-shape.' I highly recommend this firm.
Description of Work: Removed an extremely old heat pump system and installed a new, high end Rheem 3.5 ton split system (compressor outside, air handling system in crawl space under the house). Two air handling systems were suspended correctly, including a pre-existing unit (two heat pump systems in the house). The cinder block foundation where the old system ducting penetrated the wall was properly covered and sealed. New ducting was installed for the older system and the new Rheem system. A return air duct was installed in the lower floor of the house, which involved penetrating another cinder block wall. New programmable thermostat installed.

When my current 32 year old central AC unit developed a leak in the evaporator, which would cost over $800 to replace, we decided it was time for a complete new heat and air unit. Since the old unit had lasted so long I looked for Rheem dealers in the phone book, and then looked at their ratings on Angie?s List. Chancey and Reynolds had excellent ratings on Angie?s List, so we gave them a call on a Friday, and scheduled an appointment for the following Monday. Neil called us Monday to say he was running a little late finishing up another estimate. We appreciated the call, and he was here within 30 minutes. Neil looked over the old system, listened to what we wanted in terms of moving the new unit closer to the wall, modifying the return air duct, relocating the vent in the kitchen, and moving the outside unit from the back to the side of the house. He spoke knowledgeably about possible placement for the furnace nearer the wall, and the routing of the exhaust pipe. We also told him we have plans for adding a family room on the back of our house. He suggested that a new room with modern windows and better insulation than the rest of our 80 year-old house might be better served by a split ductless unit for that new room when it is built. Neil measured our system and the areas where we wanted changes. He measured the outside of the house, and then went to his truck to compute the estimate. He returned with a neatly printed proposal which detailed all of the modifications we had requested, and specified all the details he had mentioned to us, including a condensate pump. His estimates for either a Rheem Classic heat pump with gas furnace or the Prestige heat pump with Two Stage gas furnace (both 3.5 ton, 95% Efficiency) were about $3,300 to $4,000 lower than the lowest price Trane unit we had been quoted. The Chancey & Reynolds? estimate only included a one-year labor warranty, while the two Trane estimates came with a 10-year labor warranty. When I asked about this, Neil told me it would be an additional $395.00 to increase their labor warranty to 10 years. We were very impressed with Neil?s knowledge of possibilities for our system and the detail of the printed proposal. I wondered why others had quoted us 4.0 ton units and he did not, so I called and asked the next day for a revised quote on a 4.0 ton unit. I also read at James Dulley?s website about the advantages of a two stage fuel pump for greater fuel efficiency and increased dehumidification. I called and asked Neil about this, and he explained he had not suggested it because he didn?t think the extra efficiency would be enough to compensate for the increased initial cost. I asked him to send me a second revised quote for a two stage, 4.0 ton unit. Both revised quotes were emailed to me within two hours. The quote of $9,650 (after $1,000 Rheem rebate) plus $395 for the 10 year labor warranty was still $2,500 lower than the two nearest quotes for Trane systems. Because of price, the reputation of Rheem, and the quality of the estimating process, we selected Chancey and Reynolds to do the job. We called on Thursday and the work was scheduled to begin the following Tuesday between 8:00 and 8:30. Three workers, Michael, Daniel, and Jackie, arrived right at 8:30, came in and looked at where they would be working, and where we wanted the new furnace and compressor placed, and started to unload the equipment from the truck. They worked throughout the day, taking only about a 15 minute lunch break in their truck. Mid afternoon, another big truck arrived and Jackie helped the driver load our old furnace and compressor, plus the old ductwork they had removed, into the truck and it was hauled it away. One of our requests in moving the furnace closer to the wall was to have the old, very large round return air duct removed and replaced with something that took up less space and was not in a trafficked area. Michael consulted with us, telling us what he planned to do to see if that would be alright. We OK?ed it, and he and Daniel constructed a rectangular duct with two right-angle bends that hugged the ceiling until it was next to the furnace. It probably took longer than they expected, but it is a big improvement and we were very happy with the result. Meanwhile, Jackie was outside removing the sod and leveling the site for the new compressor. He then had to use a huge power drill to cut through the brick foundation where the new refrigerant lines and the electrical line to the new compressor would pass. Everyone on the team was very professional and seemed to know just what needed to be done and how to do it. No one was ever standing around waiting to be told what to do next. They had planned to have completed the heat pump installation the first day and have the AC running when they left. The job took longer than they expected and they apologized for us not having any air conditioning that night. Michael and Daniel were back before 8:00 the next morning, and got right to work. By mid afternoon, I was concerned they might not finish that day, and they told me they had called in for assistance. Jackie returned with another workman, and together the four men had the job completed and the unit running before 5:00 PM. They tested the heat pump as an AC unit, then as a heater, and finally turned on the gas furnace to test it. They showed us how to operate the thermostat, and did a reasonable job of cleaning up the basement and their work area on the patio. A factor which added to our satisfaction with the installation was the attention paid to details (pipes & ducts in straight lines and turning at right angles, the units level, etc.) leading to an attractive and professional-looking final product we will be proud to show to visitors. A very minor complaint would be that the team forgot to tell us about the dampers they installed in two air ducts and how to operate them, and said nothing about the manuals for the two units that they left us or the need to register them with Rheem. A week later we had some concerns that the heat pump was not functioning in the proper two stage mode, and had a few other questions about the system. We called the main office, we talked to a service tech, and he scheduled someone to come out the next morning at 9:00. At 8:59, Ryan from Chancey & Reynolds was here. He listened to our concerns and answered our questions. He explained that the two mysterious metal tabs protruding from the two air ducts were levers to open and close the new dampers. Then he checked the wiring at the furnace and at the compressor. He also checked the coolant level and the functioning of the heat pump. He assured us everything was in good working order. There was, of course, no charge for the call.
Description of Work: They replaced a 32 year old Rheem gas furnace and AC system that finally gave out, with a new Rheem dual fuel heat pump and gas furnace.

I can't say enough about this company. I was impressed from the initial visit for the estimate. Gave me a number of options with their recommendations. The rep came on time and was neat and personable. The work started on time as scheduled and was done with utmost professionalism. They actually left the work site better than when they arrived. The greatest testimonial I can give for this company is when, near the end of the installation, they realized that the power supply was not completely up to par (even though the old system was installed that way), they thought more of their reputation than incurring an extra expense of running an entirely new line from my panel to the other side of the house. They did this at no extra charge. I wonder how many companies would have done this. I HIGHLY recommend this company!

The technician was very prompt and professional. He answered my questions and went out of his way to make me feel like it wasn't a stupid or silly call. He checked everything thoroughly to make sure that there were not any contributing factors. Then, he gave me an estimate on a completely unrelated service that I just casually asked him about.
Description of Work: My husband came home from work yesterday, and our A/C was not working. He changed the batteries on the thermostat, and the thermostat came on, but it wasn't blowing. I called this company this morning at 8AM, and they had someone out to check out the situation by noon. It turned out that even though the batteries had enough power to light the thermostat display, there wasn't enough charge to trigger the fans. So basically, the technician just changed the batteries and got my A/C running again.

We replaced our old heat pump one-and-a-half year ago with a 4-ton 13-Seer Amana using a non-A ranking H&C company (Owner is father of my wife?s colleague). The condenser unit is located in my garage and there was a water leak starting one week ago, requiring wet vac every 2 hours. I called a competitor listed in ?Page of Happiness? on July 26, 2011 at 9AM. Initially, they said that it will be few days to schedule service and they will call back (did not receive call back until 2:30PM). By 12 noon, I wasn?t sure if I?ll receive a call back so I contacted Chancey & Reynolds. The lady I talked to was nice and said that they can schedule a service call the following day. The ONLY criticism I have about C&R is they could not quote me a block of appointment time? but I understand with the busy hot summer days and so on. Jeff the technician called at 2:30 PM and arrived at 3:00 PM. He identified the problem (cold slime blocking the drainage pipe) within 5 min. He sprayed cleaner into the PVC pipe and flushed the pipe few times with water hose? and sent me to the backyard pipe exit point to watch what came out. He also spent time instructing me on how to maintain the pipe with bleach every month (the original company that installed the heat pump NEVER gave me any maintenance instruction). Jeff also spent time to check my air filters showing me the correct way with metal-wire side facing inward. He also checked the duct work in garage explaining that the duct may be undersized with regard to air flow and efficiency. We also discussed what I paid to install the heat pump with condenser unit and he told me I overpaid. (I could also have spent a little more to get a 14-Seer and received the energy efficiency tax credit which would have lowered the total cost!!). Finally, I paid C&R $79 to fix the water leak which is more than reasonable! (BTW no water leak so far). Jeff was very patient and I was impressed to the point that I volinteered to sign up for a service maintenance contarct for $85 a visit. Chancy & Reynolds will be my heating/cooling go-to guys from now on.
Description of Work: Had a water leak from heat pump condenser unit in garage that required vacuuming the water every 2 hours. Service: Unclock drainage pipe.

Un·scru·pu·lous: A person or company having or showing no moral principles; Not honest or fair. I found Chancey Reynolds, INC on the BBB Internet site & called to have my 2 units checked out. On Friday 11/5/10 a Tech named Ryan arrived & sat in his car without coming to my door for over 20 minutes. Concerned cause they charged by the hour, I knocked on his vehicle window. He was listening to the radio & said he would be right in. I was concerned about this as he was on the clock and I was being charged $60.00 for every minute he was at my house. When he came in I told him the HVAC fan was not working as I could not hear the loud noise it usually made or feel air coming out the vents. He confirmed the fan was broke and left to go get a part. When he did not return I called his office to discuss his listening to the radio while on the clock at my house & for the length of time he had been gone to get the new fan part. I asked to speak with the owners but office manager Freddie told me they were not in. I reported my concerns to him. When Ryan got back it was obvious from his attitude that he knew I had reported his sitting out in his vehicle listening to the radio to his manager! He said he needed to check for a Freon leak but did not have an electronic meter to use. (He did not run a soap or dye test first) We waited another hour for his co-worker Jeff to arrive from another appointment in Oak Ridge to bring the tool. It was pouring rain so Jeff stood inside with me another hour while Ryan went outside to check the condenser. When Ryan never came back inside, Jeff went to check on him. Neither of them came back inside so after another 1/2 hr. I went out to look for them. Jeff was gone and Ryan was again sitting in his van. He had been outside for the past 1 1/2 hours & could have been in his van all along! I was very upset! I then asked him about my 2nd unit & he said he would have to come back another time to check it out as it was time to get off work. They also charge a $49 service charge so I would now be billed another $49 service call when he came back to check the other unit! Ryan said he didn?t find a Freon leak & prepared a bill for $580.90. I was very concerned because I felt the bill was padded & asked to see the receipt for the 2 parts he replaced. He refused to show me the old parts or the purchase receipt for the new parts. He said to call the office to dispute the bill. They were closed so I paid him & he left. I called his office on Monday to report I felt my bill was padded with unnecessary hours & over charged for parts. I also questioned the capacitor parts charge I was never told about. I was told owners Steve Chancey and Author Reynolds weren't in to take my call each time I called. Manager Freddie said he would give the owners my messages. They never returned my calls. ( This was the second time I called and asked to speak to the owners but was not allowed to. ) In June 2011 the same fan on the unit stopped working again. My insurance adjuster was at my home that week and advised those parts should still be under warranty so I called the HVAC company on 6/2/11 & discussed warranty work with Freddie. He said he would talk to Mr. Chancey & get back with me. When neither of them called back, ( Third time I was not allowed to speak with the owner) AT THIS POINT I CALLED ANOTHER HVAC COMPANY AND THEY CAME OUT THAT DAY TO INSPECT MY UNITS. The two new HVAC company employees said the parts should be under warranty & if they touched the unit it would void the Chancey Reynolds warranty. They too advised me to call Chancey/Reynolds for warranty work. THEY FOUND THE FREON LEAK ON THE COMPRESSOR THAT CHANCEY REYNOLDS DID NOT AND FIXED IT. THEY ALSO INSPECTED MY OTHER HVAC UNIT THAT CR HAD NOT CHECKED ON THEIR FIRST VISIT. I had to leave on a family emergency out of state immediately. When I returned in July the unit was still not working. I called them again on Monday July 18th & had to speak with Freddie again. He said they would come out again but would have to charge me again for a service call and labor. I told him I did not believe I should be charged another service or tech call because I did not believe a new fan part had been used on my unit last fall. He said he would discuss my concerns with Mr. Chancey & get back to me. He never called back. (Fourth attempt to speak with owners...) Today I finally spoke with Steve Chancey. He said he knew nothing about my issues & accused me of lying. Although he said he knew nothing of my problem, his was very hostile to me from the word "hello". He said he would charge me to come back to fix the problem. When he became verbally abusive & yelled at me I told him the call was over & disconnected. Throughout this ordeal I have always been cordial, patient, non-demanding and non-aggressive. I have no reason to lie about any thing and have the witness of contractors working at my house, the Insurance Adjuster who witnessed the air not working and the another HVAC COMPANY who actually fixed the broken unit. I believe that I was a victim of fraudulent business practices at the hands of an unscrupulous third party HVAC subcontractors. contractor and his unethical staff. I have filed a complaint with the Knoxville Better Business Bureau and reported the unprofessional conduct of the owner and the unethical, fraudulent actions of his employees to the TN State Board of Regulatory Commission. **********P.S.... In regards to the response from this company on 8/1/2011: YES....my HVAC was working and cooling my house when they came back in August 2011 because I had already hired a ANOTHER HVAC company to come in and fix the unit that they did not fix in November 2010. I was told by the last service tech this company sent to my house on August 2011 that some of their repair contractors are subbed out and not acutal employees of the company. He told me those subcontractors are self employed and not staff employees of Chancey and Reynolds. If I had of known I would get a subcontractor instead of a full time staff employee I would not have used this company. I found out the hard way that you have less rights if something goes wrong with a subcontractors work than with a staff employees work. I ended up spending twice the money on the repairs than I should have because of what they did to me. ****************

Response from Chancey & Reynolds Inc
Chancey & Reynolds, Inc repaired the air conditioning unit for the member on November 5th, 2010 and the bill came to $580 for parts and labor, which she paid. I received a call July 26, 2011 from the member and from the start she was yelling in the phone and making numerous accusations which were not true. She said we would not return calls, that the service tech would not get out of his van, and that we installed used parts on her unit. All these are untrue. Everytime I tried to speak, I would be interupted. When I offered to send a technician to her home she would not accept that. She wanted her money back. She went on to say that she was reporting our company to Angie's List and The Better Business Bureau even though I agreed to check the unit and repair at no cost if the parts we put in had failed. As a member of The Better Business Bureau, they contacted us when the member filed a complaint. I told her of my offer to go out and check the unit, and the BBB representative thought that was reasonable. The BBB representative called the member and suggested that she allow us to look at the unit. The member agreed. Our technician went out and checked the parts we put in as well as the operation of the entire unit. It was working perfectly and the house was cool. He made no repairs and did charge for the service call. Our company was accessible and honorable.

Our house is 18 years old. We purchased it in March 2008. Upstairs A/C unit has NEVER been able to heat and cool properly. Since 2008, we've had several different companies come and perform service. None of them ever explained why our upstairs is too hot in the summer, too cold in winter. They would add freon in the summer ($350) and tell us it's on it's last leg. Finally, we decided to just go ahead bite the bullet and replace. The unit is a 2.5 ton with 4 ton air ducts. All quotes we received with the exception of Chancey and Reynolds were for 3 ton units. Chancey and Reynolds quoted a 4 ton unit, for LESS than the others AND gave me a detailed explanation as to why we could install a 4 ton unit. The unit was installed and I have to say WOW! What a huge difference. The installation crew was GREAT! I highly recommend this company and will use them to replace our downstairs unit in the near future!
Description of Work: Installed 4 ton RHEEM HVAC unit.

This is the second time we've had Chancey & Reynolds work on our AC. I really like their prompt service. But both times they had to do the job twice. They do not charge for the second technician because they didn't fix it the first time. They eventually get the job done, but I have to wonder - do they have to charge more because they have to do everything twice? Maybe it's just a coincidence with us, I sure hope so.
Description of Work: We had an issue with our AC compressor fan not turning, therefore the AC would not work. The service tech came out exactly when scheduled the next morning (I had left an after-hours voice mail message explaining my problem). Customer Service called early the next morning to schedule a technician. The technician was 90% sure it was our capacitor, but it wasn't. He then concluded that it was our fan motor. He could go pick one up and get it installed that day. He didn't even need me to be there so I went to work. He called later and said everything was working fine and I gave him my credit card number over the phone for payment. When we got home from work and turned down the AC, the compressor started making a terrible loud noise. My husband noticed the fan blades were a lot larger than our original ones and the motor was mounted differently. The fan blades were touching wires and copper, so we quickly turned it off because we were worried it would shear one of the wires in half. We called the Chancey & Reynolds emergency number and a different technician came out within an hour. He bent the fan blades up so that they were no longer touching the copper and wires. I guess this was the best solution - it's working now with no noise.

Representatives from Chancey and Reynolds answered both of my calls. I was able to schedule an appointment approximately 3 days out and was then able to reschedule my appointment for 5 days later. A technician arrived at 9am, as I was told he would. Work was performed quickly and professionally. .

Ryan from Chancey and Reynolds called me back within 30 minutes of me leaving a message and was at my house in 20. He was efficient, professional and made sure to clean up debris that fell when he entered the attic crawl space where my furnace is located. The price was great and everything was repaired within 30 - 45 minutes. I would absolutely use this company again. He advised me that my system will need the same service every year or I have the option to replace a part. I had two other companies give me estimates and this one was by far the cheapest but I do not feel I sacrificed service in the least bit. I am very pleased with my experience and will absolutely use this company again if I have future issues.

Overall, I was very pleased with the customer service and professionalism exhibited.
Description of Work: Air conditioning failed on a very hot Sunday June 5, called and Matt came out late that night to check out problem. Appeared that the motor had burned out and he had none of that size, but he thoroughly checked everything. He stayed in touch with me and called early the next morning to let me know that he was going to get the motor, but because of other work already ahead of me (lots of unit problems during exceptionally high temperatures here in Knoxville), it would probably be after 5 p.m. He was excellent in attitude, service, and keeping in touch with the customer. I have used Chancey&Reynolds since I first moved to this home in 1998. I had them replace the existing unit a few years after that, and they do all the maintenance for me - in the spring and in the fall. They have a wonderful can do attitude and work to do everything they can to get things back to functioning when anything goes wrong. They are always extremely dependable and service-oriented. I will continue to use their service.

We were very impressed with them. We thought they were very professional. They came out in a timely manner and the guy who came out to do the estimate was the son’s owner. I spent around $12000 on that work. We felt very comfortable with them and we thought they were reliable and trustworthy. I felt comfortable leaving them with my wife when I was at work. They were very knowledgeable. They were thorough.
Description of Work: I used Chancey & Reynolds Inc. in May of this year to put in heat pumps and split the ventilation systems in to 2 systems. They also did additional duct work, insulation, put in a new thermostat and put in new air filters.
