Our a/c unit was cooling but would not turn off or in some areas "on" when one of the zones was changed at the thermostat. First of all let me say, they advertise emergency service. Don't count on that. I called left a message and also left a request for service online (after hours). No call back at all during the weekend. The technician finally came out and diagnosed the problem but needed to order the part. He acted like he wasn't sure if the part he wanted to replace was the actual problem. I did not hear from him for 2 days so I called and asked about the repair and how much it would cost. After being placed on hold for a lengthy time, the lady that I was talking to said she would call me back in a few minutes. She never did call me. This same thing happened everytime I called (approx. 5 times) over a two week time frame. After telling them that I wasn't happy with them putting me off and not doing what they said they would do, I told them to forget it and that I was going to write the appropriate review of their service online. Guess what!! they called me back immediately and wanted to give me an estimate. Sorry, but I cannot recommend this company. Too many others out there that value their customers and have excellent customer service.

Response from Advanced Heat, A/C, & Plumbing
This customer filed a claim through her home warranty on an a/c problem. We scheduled a service call and arrived on 9/4/13. The home warranty would not authorize emergency service due to mild temperatures.The technician diagnosed a shorted zone board on her system. Unfortunately, the customers insurance policy does not cover zoned systems or it's components. After discovering these failures we had to call the home warranty to give the diagnosis. The home warranty took the information and had to call us back with their decision which slightly delayed the process which was out of our control. We then searched for the part and located to give her our bid to replace, during our call to the customer we were disconnected and Michael at the office immediately called back and the customer said she no longer wanted our services. 100% customer satisfaction is our goal and unfortunately in this circumstance due to the customers home warranty not covering this repair, which is out of our control, this was not met. We will be contacting the customer to offer any resolve possible to obtain her satisfaction.

Young man's name was Matt. He was very prompt, professional, and very courteous. And I would definitely use this company again and definitely keep using Angie's List to look for companies.
Description of Work: Came and checked inside the unit and cleaned all the coils. Also checked my duct work as well as the temperature levels to make sure the temperature level was doing right on the inside. Put thermometer into the vent to make sure it cooling properly on the inside of the house.

They forgot to deduct the coupon on the bill, but gladly fixed it when I called in about it. Overall, I am pleased with the service.

I am writing to express disappointment with Advanced Heating and Air?s (AHA) service for multiple reasons: (1) inability to diagnose a simple malfunction of our A/C unit, (2) attempt to up-sale all services, (3) excessive costs, and (4) misleading information on the need to replace our unit and the availability and cost of R22. As an Angie?s List member, I am surprised at this poor service considering AHA's relatively high rating and previous good reviews. Service was requested from AHA for water leaking from our A/C unit, and after two visits costing over $500, they did not fix it. I subsequently had a second company inspect our unit. They determined that the cause for water leaking under our unit was a clogged drain to the condensate pump not excessive ice accumulation from a Freon leak, which AHA claimed. This discovery was interesting because I suggested to the AHA technician when he inspected the unit during the first visit that a possible cause of leaking may be a clogged condensate drain. The AHA technician indicated the drain was not clogged, which is interesting because he did not disassemble the PVC drain. In contrast, the second company immediately cut the PVC pipe and saw it was clogged. After the second company unclogged the drain and turned on the unit, water immediately began to drain into the condensate pump. During AHA?s first visit, the technician indicated that the unit probably was low on Freon and put 1 lb in the unit. Interestingly, I learned later when AHA visited the second time, that the first technician put the Freon in the incorrect unit (we have 2 A/C units). When the second AHA technician inspected the correct unit, he installed a new capacitor and indicated the cause of the leaking water was a Freon leak, which can cause ice accumulation. His conclusion also was interesting considering there was no ice on the evaporator coils. Moreover, the second company that fixed our unit indicated that ice accumulation has to be excessive for it to leak from the unit, because ice has to form beyond the edge of the drip pan such that dripping water misses the pan. Also, if this is the problem, water should continue to leak from the unit from melting ice when it is shut off, which was not the case for our unit. Leaking stopped immediately when the unit was turned off and started soon after it was turned on (which I indicated to both AHA technicians). The second AHA technician proceeded to give me options for fixing the supposed Freon leak using sealant ($464) or replacing the evaporator coils ($2000), and indicated that I should consider purchasing a new unit ($6000). My choice was the least expensive option because I was not convinced that our unit (16 years old) needed to be replaced. After the second AHA technician left, I noticed water leaking from under the unit, and subsequently called the owner of AHA. During this discussion, I expressed the concern that $464 to replace a capacitor ($30) and put in A/C sealant ($30) seemed excessive. The AHA owner agreed to provide a $200 credit toward the purchase of a new unit, and proceeded to explain how our unit should be replaced because it will be obsolete with the phasing out of R22 in the next few years. I learned later from the second company that our Trane unit should last 30 years, and that R-22 will not be discontinued until 2025. Moreover, the second company indicated that the cost of R22 is $16/lb not the $70/lb that AHA charged us during the first visit. It took the second company approximately 30 min to diagnose and fix the clogged drain costing <$100. After 2 months of operation, the unit has not leaked. I wrote the owner of AHA, expressed my disappointment, and requested a refund. The owner responded defending his technicians? diagnoses and their prices, and did not provide even a partial refund. I will not request service again from AHA due to their inability to diagnose a simple A/C malfunction, an attempt to up sale and convince me that I needed to replace my unit, and because the cost of their services are at least double compared to similar companies in Knoxville.

Our company arrived at the customers home on the original call which was 6/19/13. The technician found that the system was slightly low on refrigerant which was causing system to freeze up and causing water drips due to thawing of ice on coil, but found no refrigerant leaks. The customer wanted to add refrigerant for now. Technician charged the system with refrigerant and system checked out well. On 7/1/13 we dispatched a different technician on a recall. On this visit the technician found a bad capacitor and replaced which this is a very common part to fail in peak hot temperatures. Also the refrigerant was slightly low again and through an electronic leak check found a small refrigerant leak in the evaporator coil. We gave the customer options of replacing coil or a less expensive route of adding sealant to system and let him know there was not a guarantee the sealant would work. The system again had water drippings from freezing up. This was not due to the drain or condensate pump failure which was checked and clear. The customer decided to go with the less route of sealant. We apologized for the re-call and cleaned the customers condenser coils for free as a courtesy for the re-call. Unfortunately,this is the last opportunity we were given to repair system by homeowner. 100% customer satisfaction is our goal and will try again to contact customer to resolve any dissatisfaction.

Long story short, we have purchased a Half Off deal for a "tune-up" from another company that came out several weeks ago. During their tune-up they said we needed a few things replaced and that it would be approx $1,500 and would require hours of service. I was going to call the manufacturer about our waranty but hadn't gotten around to it yet and I just didn't have a good feeling about the experience with the company. Our air went out on Saturday afternoon and I called Advanced on Monday morning (using Angie's List to research going back to a much safer method of hiring a service provider than the bad Half Off Depot experience) and Brad came out today (Tuesday). He replaced the capacitor and was done in 30-60 minutes. I asked him about the other findings the competator quoted and he said they were incorrect or not needed. I had to call him a couple of times after regaring our waranty on the capacitor and he was extremley nice and professional. Really great experience with Advanced and would highly recommend them. Bottom line, check the ratings and research Angie's List prior to purchasing a deal on Half Off or any other coupon site like that.

We are selling our house. The buyer's inspector said he couldn't get the heat on, so the buyers called in a heating and AC company to take a look. That man was late, wore no uniform, and had no card to prove he was who he said he was. He banged on the unit a few times, then told me he was going to have to come back on Monday (it was Friday) and take the unit apart, but he suspected that the heat exchanger was rusty. He said carbon monoxide was a danger and that we probably need a new furnace. I didn't trust him, so called Advanced Heating and Air, who had serviced our AC in May, in to see what was going on. Andrew came out just when he said he would, with uniform, put shoe covers on so he wouldn't dirty the floors, and investigated. He found that the orifice the gas comes through on the heating unit was clogged, so cleaned it out. He tested it a couple of times until he was sure that problem was fixed. He also looked at the heat exchanger and said it was in great shape. He came in and explained everything to me. He was highly professional, respectful, and knowledgeable. I would hire them again in a heart beat.

Advanced Air is very knowledge and worked thru the issue before. They have provided service for me and my family at three homes in the past. When I have logged a call to the home buyer protection plan, I ask for Advanced Air. Once the task is scheduled, they work with me to provide an hour call ahead. Since I work a hour from my home, this is helpful. They are prompt, polite and respectful of all properties. When a part must be ordered, they work with me to have the part installed in a prompt fashion. I would recommend this company to a friend.

8/2/2013 Matt D. arrived within 30 minutes of calling me and got right to work. He first cleaned the unit and then began to inspect the Freon levels which he found to be almost non-existent. When I told him about the leak found last year, he checked the unit over and found leaks in several places. Since the unit was almost 18 years old, he recommended that it would be probably be more effective to replace the system with a newer and more efficient model. He checked the equipment both inside and outside the condo and initially thought a heat-pump system would be the best replacement but upon close inspection realized that a heat-pump wouldn't work because the thermostat wiring did not extend outside and my unit was on the second floor. He determine the appropriate system and the cost was actually less than the original estimate. He wrote up the order and hoped to have it available to install the following Tuesday. I'll update the review once the new system is installed. Update: Cory and Eddie arrived on Tuesday and immediately started working to get the old unit out and make all the necessary changes to get the new unit up and running. They had some issues with getting the old unit out (mostly due to it's old age) and also with the wiring but they took care of everything. The temperature has already started dropping and I seriously doubt that I will have any problems. They were very professional, kept the area clean and took care of cleaning up everything once the job the done. I would definitely recommend them for future work....and if I need anything I already know who to call.
