Back around President's Day my husband (reluctantly) and I went mattress shopping. At Grand of Kingsport, we were greeted at the front door and they called the sales associate for mattresses. Wanda Batman was very pleasant, asked what features we were interested in, firmness, price range, etc. The firmness was the kicker: I wanted soft but my husband wanted firm. We weren't interested in the "air" mattresses with adjustable settings. She was very patient, showed us at least 10 mattresses, let us lay on each one as long as we needed, made sure we had pillows at each mattress. She managed to do this without hovering too. After hearing our price range, she showed us mattresses that were actually below our top $. A lot of salesmen will start just above your top $ and go up from there. After deciding on our favorite of the ones we tried, she was not offended when we did not purchase that day. She wrote the pertinent information on the back of her business card for us and wished us a good weekend. We did not purchase anywhere that weekend. We went back for the Memorial Day sale and asked for Wanda. She was busy with another customer but called someone else to assist us. We gave him the information from our previous visit. He kept showing us other, newer, mattresses: more expensive too. I kept asking about the model we chose the first time. By this time Wanda was back with us - I think thats another reason the b-s stopped and he let us see what we had asked for. He finally "remembered" that they had one of our model left, the last one in the area. It was still the same sale price and we bought it. I asked for the low profile boxsprings for it. Again, supposedly the last one in the area for that model of mattress. We took the mattress with us but had to wait a few days for the box springs to be brought from the warehouse. Wanda was great ! I wanted her to get the commission from the sale since she had been so attentive and patient with us on our first visit. She was never pushy nor did she try to nudge us into buying a mattress over our budget. I did not appreciate when her associate tried to sell us something more expense, knowing they had exactly what we asked for. Also see my review of the Grand Home Furnishings in Johnson City.
