I was working most of the day during the project so he kept in touch by sending emails with photos of the project in progress. When I got home they had just finished and he was still there. He walked around with me and explained how everything was done. It looks totally cleaned out and I am so pleased.
Description of Work: I had a large area that had a retaining wall with bedding that was so over grown with vines, weeds, and multiple small dead tree stumps throughout. Chris came out the day I called to assess the property and priced the project. He was able to come up with a solution to meet my needs and started within a week of contact.
WOW, What a Great Job! Chris and his entire crew were fabulous. They had to do the work under extreme heat conditions, and they did a beautiful job. The entire crew was polite and friendly, they worked hard and they cleaned up nicely. They regraded my patio so that it finally angles away from the house, and took great care placing all the pavers. They were able to re-use the slate blocks from the old patio to create a nice border, and they replanted a few shrubs that were removed to make the patio go all the way up to the house. Chris also created a small fire pit in matching paver blocks, which was exactly what I wanted. I couldn't have asked for anything better from them, and I will surely use Crenshaw Landscaping for other work in my yard.
Description of Work: We needed to tear out our old patio which was sinking, regrade, put down a new base and install a new paver patio with a small fire pit.

Crenshaw Landscaping did a great job at our house! They showed up the same day I called them to give me an estimate and the service was performed within a week, even during their busiest season. They weeded all of our beds, installed edging on the sides and front of the house, mulched and planted bushes. We love the way our yard looks and we've recommended them to several of our neighbors. Very professional and good value. We will definitely use them again!
Description of Work: Crenshaw Landscaping weeded our beds, installed edging on the sides of our beds, mulched a very large area on the front and sides of our house and planted three bushes.

Sorry [member name removed] for dropping the ball on getting your estimate. I have been overwhelmed this spring with requests for estimates. The fast warm up of the weather after all of the snow and ice in March created a backlog of 45 estimates to prepare in a weeks time. The large dogwood you requested was not available in my wholesale nurseries due to the wet weather they couldn't dig until the soil dried out. While waiting on them I lost track of your estimate. A friendly reminder email to me would have gotten me back on track. I should have let you know I was having trouble locating your tree.

Called Chris Crenshaw based on his excellent reviews on Angie's List. Glad I did! Chris came out the next morning and we went over the disaster that was the front of my house. I had a terrible problem with Knutgrass growing throughout the planting bed along with overgrown bushes. I knew that after the bushes and knutgrass were removed I would want some trees planted. Chris is extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of landscaping and helped guide me through what was needed in the front. I decided on five very tall Emerald Arborvitae trees. I mentioned to Chris that we only saw small Emerald Arborvitae trees in our local garden nursery but he knew where to get tall ones. On the first day Chris and his crew arrived and made fast work of the bushes and knutgrass. A few weeks later the Emerald Arborvitae trees came. Wow! They were so beautiful - so healthy and tall. Just what we wanted. They were done in two days and transformed my dreary front yard into something to be proud of. Chris and his crew are such nice people -it was great speaking with them and to watch how talented they all are. I would definitely recommend Crenshaw Landscaping to any of my neighbors.
Description of Work: Removed old overgrown bushes in front of house. Eradicated knutgrass that spread throughout planting bed in front of house. Planted Five - 11 ft Emerald Arborvitae trees in front of house. Mulched the entire front bed.

After Chris and his team planted the most beautiful Emerald Arborvitae trees in the front of my house I could tell that i needed a low stone wall to better define the front. I called Chris back and he knew exactly what to do. He provided me with an estimate and started working on the front right away. Chris and his team arrived with the stone and started working on the wall. I watched Chris do the stonework and realized that he is a true craftsman when it comes to this kind of detailed work. I could not be happier the way it turned out. It was a pleasure dealing with Crenshaw Landscaping on the last two projects.

At some point in the past, previous owners of my home had dug out the original 4' crawl space to 7', making it into an unfinished basement. The problem with this is that in the back yard, the land slopes down to the basement door, causing water to settle near the foundation and dirt to pile up against the siding. I wanted 2 retaining walls put in (one on each side of the basement door) to keep water and dirt away from the house and foundation, soil graded away from the house, and river pebbles placed between the retaining walls to cover the dirt that is there (this area is shaded by a gigantic maple tree, so nothing grows there. The second job was to replace the old walkway, which was not installed properly to begin with - the pavers were buckling and uneven. The third job was to grade down the soil in front of my house by the driveway because the dirt was coming up underneath the siding. Chris Crenshaw is extremely professional and did a great job! His estimate was $1,000 less than the next highest estimate I received and he also explained to me why some of the other additional things other companies wanted to do (that added to their price) were not only a waste of money, but could actually be detrimental to proper functioning in the future. The job was completed in a timely fashion, for the exact amount of the estimate, and makes the exterior of my home look 1,000 times better than it did before the work. The Crenshaw Landscaping crew were all very nice and professional and cleaned up after themselves at the end of each workday. The retaining walls and the walkway look fantastic and I am very happy with the outcome. Chris even came back free of charge to re-do the area in front of the house when I wasn't completely happy with the outcome (this was at least partially my fault, as Chris had so many great ideas for the retaining walls and the walkway, I just naturally assumed he'd have great ideas for the front of the house too, but the man isn't psychic, and when I actually explained what I wanted, his crew was there the next workday to change it). I would definitely hire them again, and I would say to anyone reading this, if you have any drainage problems, hiring Chris, who (if memory serves) has a degree in engineering - definitely a plus as he is going to have great solutions for keeping water away from your foundation.

Chris was early for our initial meeting, had some great suggestions and provided detailed estimates both as a whole and itemized so we could tackle a large project in phases. The workmanship was great and he even went above and beyond with a side project that was not part of the original plan. The patio looks amazing and we're very pleased with the whole project. He does the work himself and is on site every day, which is a huge plus. We'll definitely be using him again this fall for another project.

Chris was very responsive from the beginning. He arrived punctually for the initial meeting to discuss the project and to give an estimate. He offered suggestions and returned for a second meeting to discuss further. With the estimate, he presented a drawing and a detailed breakdown of all costs. We had to get approval from the HOA before work could begin. Chris provided additional information to help with that process. The job was started promptly on the day he promised. He and his crew were meticulous with the installation. At every step, he consulted with us to make sure everything was being done exactly as we wanted. We love the final product. Since the hardscape was installed during the summer, we are waiting until fall to add the landscaping. We will definitely be contacting Chris for this next step.

I called him for an estimate. I told him everything about the job. I needed someone to rebuild a retaining wall, preferably using as much of the existing stone as possible, because it is new, but improperly installed. He asked me how big they were, and I told him. He forgot about our appointment, and called me when he found it in his book. I said go ahead and come out. He looked at the wall, then said he could not help me. He said, when he does walls with those stones, he will have a couple of guys get back aches. What? So he left, and when he did I found a puddle of oil from his old truck in my aggregate driveway. Thank goodness he gave me a mess to clean up after wasting my time. He did not offer any alternatives either, like tearing it down and using a stone that does not cause his weak employees backaches. I have a ton of things I would like to do after this fiasco is fixed, but I would not use him for any of it.

I am sorry you are disappointed with the hour you spent with me. I would have been glad to come back and clean any mess left on your drive if I would have been notified. My appointment times are valuable and I make every effort to be present at the time we discussed. After reviewing the work you requested and the materials used an noticing the discontent with the work done that you were the type of client that would not be satisfied with any recommendations offered. I informed you that the project would not be right for our company. We take pride in our work and workmanship and want to work for people we believe can be satisfied. My recommendation would be to work out your differences with the original contractor that did the work for the 3 steps and 1ft tall x 3ft long wall realizing that you often get the quality of work you are willing to pay for .

Chris and his team were magnificent. They showed up several days early, worked steadily on a challenging project through some of Nashville's hottest days, made great decisions about design and stone choices, and result is gorgeous. We could not be happier with it, and now can get from the back of the house to the front without risking falling, AND it looks lovely. A real addition to the value of the property. Chris was also honest with us about the budget, and while his original estimate was a bit higher than we had hoped, it was reasonable and he stayed within it. His prompt response, professionalism, and care in his work showed from the very first interaction, winning out over two other bidders (one of whom came in at a little less, but gave much less attention to what we wanted). And they left no mess. I'd definitely go to Crenshaw again for hardscaping!

We needed to solve a drainage issue. An engineer came out and told us we needed to install a drain and adjust the slope of the yard. This required demolishing an existing concrete patio and sidewalk. Crenshaw came; we agreed on a plan of attack and a price. (Note I can't comment on the price being wonderful or bad, since I did not secure other quotes. There were others who suggested different solutions for similar or more money, but their solution was not in accord with the engineer's appraisal.) He was professional, knowledgable, punctual, straightforward and informative, careful of our property, and respectful of me and my wife's wishes. I would say he was careful not to waste anything, since he re-used some stones I had left over. After he laid out the patio - before he actually put pavers down - we decided we wanted 5' more in length. He complied with ouwr wishes and told us the approximate cost. He put seed and straw and pine needles down, so when fall gets here, we will probably have some more work for him, planting. He left the place in pretty good shape, not leaving me with a mess to work around.

The week of the start date, Chris and his crew showed up to begin the major task of creating dry stream beds in our back yard. They worked solid from Tuesday through Friday. Chris was there every day working and overseeing the work of his team. They cleaned their work areas each day, put materials and tools to the side of the yard out of the way, arrived in the morning and left in the later afternoon hours. Each person on his team was courteous and hard working in my opinion. When they finished on Friday, they cleaned every piece of the yard, their work areas, and where they had parked their trucks! We really appreciated their care for our property and neighborhood. Today, our yard is no longer only a yard; it is a lovely park! The 5 dry stream beds he created are stunningly gorgeous!!! He bought beautiful big and small river rocks with moss on them that add such beauty. He provided stepping stones in a way so that grass won't grow over them and secured them for stability. He even designed an idea for our grandchildren to enjoy called a jumping rock over one of the beds! Chris also built a bridge over another one of the beds. With oak leaf hydrangeas, cypress ferns, and other indigenous plants bedded in pine straw, I can't tell you how beautiful it looks! AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, IT WORKS! IT SOLVED THE PROBLEM OF ALL THE RIVERS RUNNING THROUGH OUR PROPERTY! Today, after several days of rain, Chris came to see how it was working. He's a man of his word! We've had a lot of workers in our lives in the last 6 months; painters, handyman, plumbers, electricians, media/technology workers, landscapers, and builders. In our opinion, Chris Crenshaw has a work ethic, professionalism and knowledge of his line of service that surpasses anything we've experienced thus far. This man's care and integrity for the service he provides, the attention to detail with a kindness and respect for the environment and the customer, could teach a thing or to to our local and national political representatives!!
Description of Work: I contacted Chris Crenshaw about a huge water problem in our backyard and asked for a review of the problem and estimate. He chose to come on the proposed date even though it was pouring rain!! We were so happy he chose to see our yard during the problem! In rain boots, he took a thorough look at the many rivers convening and running through the yard. We were very grateful to him for coming during the rain. Another company we had contacted called to say they couldn't come because of the rain and it would be too messy!! They missed getting our business because of it! If you want to see a water problem, it's best to come when there's water! Chris did! After surveying the problem, Chris spent 30- 45 minutes with us talking about what he was seeing and the possibilities he thought would correct the problem. He then sent us a drawing and estimate via email. We had a few questions that he answered and gave us a possible start date. We felt reassured due to the level of knowledge he offered about the issue.

I had contacted Chris through Angie's List, and I am really glad I did. Since he had experience with water features, like our waterfall, I asked him if he could visit to take a look at our waterfall. Having just moved in 8 months ago and never having a waterfall before, we wanted to make sure there wasn't a leak (if the water level was maintaining an appropriate level for its type), and do any kind of maintenance or fixes needed. Chris spent a couple of hours on our waterfall, which included some face time with my husband to educate him on the waterfall, maintenance tips, etc. Separately, we had thought that the gravel part of our driveway might have needed some additional gravel Chris supplied a quote for that work, but on further discussion, conveyed to us that we were probably just fine for a few more years. Again, giving us maintenance tips and describing the trigger points to when we may want to look into it further. We very much appreciated Chris' services and we hope to use him again in the future.
