Crenshaw Landscaping was great to work with - our experiences with workmen giving prompt estimates and timely follow-up hasn't been the best, but Crenshaw couldn't have been better . They arrived when scheduled, worked diligently throughout the hot August day, and did a perfect clean-up after the job was finished. Our sidewalk and retaining wall are beautiful, and we will be using them again for other landscaping projects.
Description of Work: They built a paver sidewalk and a small retaining wall. It did involve leveling the area and removing a medium-sized shrub.

Chris is extremely knowledgeable about the plants and trees of this area and his plan was well thought out to preserve and renew the trees and hedges and remove invasive plants. I interviewed a number of contractors and his bid was the most complete. He was punctual for both the bid meeting and with his crew to do the work - which was well worth the expense. They did an excellent job and I can't wait until next Spring to see our yard bloom. I highly recommend Crenshaw Landscaping.
Description of Work: Our large yard needed extensive work clearing brush, pruning, and trimming.

They were able to get things done quickly, which was great because we were moving and needed to get the house "look" resolved before we left town. I felt like the cost was a little high for the visual impact of the work, BUT I will be the first to admit that I have no idea how much thing kind of thing should cost, so I am probably under-valuing the work. We were just glad that we didn't have to do it ourselves. Here's the breakdown: Description: Clean up front landscape beds. Include the following. Weed front beds and re-mulch. Add 2 Varigated Lirope 3 gal. . Price: $125.00 ---------------------- Description: Back Beds - include the following: Install a stepping stone landing at bottom of stairs, fill large hole with topsoil, Weed garden and re-mulch including blackberry and rose bushes along fence. Price: $225.00
Description of Work: Company came out and assessed the landscaping we wanted to do before we put the house on the market. The services included: putting new mulch in the front on the house and planting flowers for color; filling in a large hole our dog had dug in the back yard; adding new mulch around our raised-bed garden, a rosebush, and a blackberry bush; and "doing something" with the dirt-area at the bottom of our deck stairs.

We worked with Chris and asked for a couple of modified bids. We were attempting to work with the Homeowner's association on the project, which delayed it significantly. He was very patient and when we finally were able to move forward, he was able to do the work within 3 days. We were not home when it was completed, but were delighted with the work. They not only did what was contracted, but also reworked two areas of drainage and planted grass seed.
Description of Work: They routed our roof drain pipes underground and away from the house and put French drains around the patio.

When he arrived at our home, he asked how I had heard about him...Told him Angies list....Told him that I was aware that he was offering a special to angie's list clients....Told him basically what we wanted...he measured, took notes....gave me a ballpark price of $4,000....said he would email me written quote within 24 hours. Well, 48 hrs later, I received the written quote and it had doubled in price...AND...to top it off, he never called to see if I received the quote, if I had any quesions...nothing...nada...horrible customer service, and shame on him for quoting one thing and then delivering a totally different price. Would not use this company.

My landscaping needs were relatively small compared to the larger jobs that Crenshaw does, but my job was treated as if it was the only job they had. There was no rushing to get finished with my job and Crenshaw and his crew made me feel at ease and not hesitate to ask questions or add my "two cents worth." All in all working with Chris Crenshaw, his Dad and crew was a very positive experience. Chris and his Dad are very knowledgeable concerning varieties of plants, bushes and trees, where they would do best, when they should be planted and how they should be planted. For all these reasons, Crenshaw will be coming back this fall to plant trees, bushes and plant bulbs. I finally found the perfect landscaping company....Crenshaw Landscaping.
Description of Work: Mr. Crenshaw and crew arrived on time, in fact, he was a day early which was a nice surprise. They brought my tired old landscaping into the 21st century. They removed old unsightly bushes, trimmed unruly bushes and totally "renovated" 4 very large landscaped areas. They refurbished my old irrigation system and heavily mulched all flower beds. Mr. Crenshaw and his crew were very efficient and knocked the entire job out in a day. They totally removed all debris by taking debris with them not stacking it at the curb. I could not be more pleased and would not hesitate to use them again and refer them to my family and friends.

Crenshaw did great work. Answered phone on first call, came to my house after work and gave me an estimate the same day. I had one other estimate and chose his because he was so knowledgeable about plants and how they should be pruned as well as garden design for minimum effort and maximum enjoyment. We needed major work done including pruning and shrub removal and cleaning out a pond with a fountain and getting it running. I spoke to him a few times before the job started and he answered all my questions and made great suggestions for our garden. He was able to start quickly, was on time and completed the job very timely. Exceeded my expectations. Will use them again.
Description of Work: Major pruning of garden shrubs and trees, shrub removal, ivy removal, pond clean out and maintenance.
Chris provided a drawing of the proposed changes in my back yard using existing planting and design features in his design. He and his crew removed (Chris actually used climbing gear) the tree and a large pine tree and placed a large water feature in the yard, multiple trees, bushes, and flowers. Chris repurposed many bushes and shrubs. He was on the site every day, both directing work and participating in work. Many days he was at the house long after his crew was gone. He took great care to use many of the existing plantings or move them to a more suitable location. He turned the backyard into an oasis that is 100% more usable that it was in the past. We have already used Chris to add a second water feature to the side yard and he will return to put in the remaining flagstone patio in early July. Chris is easy to work with, his crew is hard working, and went above and beyond to ensure that the project was what my wife and I wanted. I highly recommend Chris and Crenshaw Landscaping and have friends and neighbors who want his contact information for their projects.
Description of Work: Designed and installed water features, planting materials, flagstone patios, removed trees, repurposed fencing and existing landscape features.

The first day they transplanted a magnolia tree, which I hope will make it was this is not the ideal time to transplant and started digging for the pond. We have rock everywhere about 2 inches below the surface, so it took them longer than planned to go through the rock. For our area they did not think we would have so much rock. We had a lot of ground cover to be removed from the new pond area which they did a good job in removing. The plants from the old pond area were moved to the new pond and several more new plants were added. Several limbs from an existing large oak tree were trimmed to give us a better view of the pond and landscaping. They build a wooden bridge over the water to continue the path from our driveway to a back door of our sunroom. A 110 volt power box was moved from the old pond to the new pond. They pumped out the old pond, removed liners, and filled in with dirt and seeded and put down wheat straw. Since there are lots of small rocks still at the old pond location, we will have to have further work done on that area. Overall both my husband and I love the new pond. We both think it is more than we were planning on. We definitely would recommend this firm for landscaping. Everything on the contract was completed and they cleaned up every day and at the completion.
Description of Work: The pond installation took 4 days and my husband and I are very pleased with the finished project. There were 5-6 people here at all times and they worked constantly. We had an existing smaller pond and when we met with Chris Chrenshaw we discussed what we wanted. Chris took notes, made suggestions and within 2 days emailed the design and contract to us. I felt the price was high, but after seeing the finished project, we are very glad we went with Crenshaw Landscaping.

I called Chris and asked him to come out for an estimate for a paver patio. I also wanted wood steps that went to a screen porch replaced with stone steps. He scheduled a time and came out. He listened to what I wanted and I asked for any design recommendations that he may have as well. He suggested adding the seat wall. Chris said we would itemize the estimate so that I could implement what my budget would allow. Each item could be added later. After a few weeks I received an email with a very detailed drawing and itemized estimate from Chris. It listed the type of materials and cost for each item. We had a few more discussions and once I had decided on what I wanted I sent Chris the down payment and he got started almost immediately. The patio, seat wall, steps and lighting all look great. I am very pleased with the outcome. Chris and his team were very professional with the work that they did.
Description of Work: 15' x 14' paver patio, stone steps and stone seat wall installed. The seat wall was 12' long and 21" high with 2 - 18" x 18" x 3' columns. Each column and the seat wall has a low voltage led light fixture installed with timer.

Chris Crenshaw came out to our house and spent over an hour surveying the property and drafting a proposal. He came back a second time to review the proposal with me and my wife in person. It is quickly apparent that Chris is very knowledgeable. He does a great job of working as a landscaping "consultant" vs. a high pressure "sales person". He was respectful of our budget and did his best to maximize what we were willing to spend. His crew of 6 guys came out to our house earlier this week and completed the entire project. We could not be more pleased with the results. We've already had two neighbors ask us for the number to our landscaper!! I would highly recommend Crenshaw landscaping. High quality work and affordable pricing.

got an estimate from Crenshaw on some landscaping for the front of my house. Chris came out at a time that was convenient for me and gave me a comprehensive, timely estimate. I did not use him, as I went with someone I had previously used who I already had a relationship with. But, I would not hesitate to contact him again for future work/estimates. Good ideas, professional.

Had first engaged with Crenshaw Landscaping to get a quote to solve some yard drainage problems with my new house. Mr. Crenshaw wrote up a nice proposal as to how to resolve it, knowing that it would likely be handled by the builder, which it was. So no business for them from this first encounter. He personally delivered it for me to pick it up at the new house. And this was all done without actually meeting! However, their responsiveness impressed me. So when I opted to pursue getting some exterior lighting showcasing the front of the house, I opted to return to them. They had some good comments on Angie's List, and my experience so far was good, so why change? They did what I wanted, how I wanted, when I wanted, and for the price I was quoted. It was not an inexpensive job, and perhaps someone "handier" and with enough free time could've done the job themselves, but... I wanted the job done right, and well, and it seems that it has been! All this, and we've still not met in ! Email and phone and written quotes have been enough. I anticipate that I will turn to Crenshaw again should I have additional landscaping needs!
Description of Work: I engaged them to have exterior lighting installed, to "wash" the front of my new house with light. The front yard, and the front of the house can all be a little dark, and the automatic timing of the lights would be nice, providing the lighting even if I'm not home to turn them on. (There aren't a large number of street lights in the area.) I reached out to Crenshaws via Angies List, and after some back-and-forth emails, I got a quote from them via email. I asked some clarification questions via email which got addressed via email, and gave the go ahead, also via email! Do you notice a trend? (I was actually out of the country when I told them to proceed!) Came home from the trip, and all had been done as I hoped! The lighting achieved the desired look, and thanks to the dusk-to-dawn operation, was on and waiting for my inspection when I returned from the airport! I marked the "Price" category as "NA" because I can't really speak to how appropriate or fair the price is. I didn't do any competitive shopping, and while it's not a small amount of money, I accepted their quote, so...

When Chris arrived to find out what we were interested in having him do, I had only a vague idea of what I wanted. Our house is new and the yard small, and the builder put in only the basic landscaping -- hollies, dwarf nandina, monkey grass, a few arbotrvitae. I told Chris several plants I liked and a few I did not like, and told him I just wanted my yard to be pretty, with some definite seasonal color. He was very patient, at the end of a long day for him, and did not make me feel rushed when I tried to describe my ideas. He took lots of notes, had lots of suggestions, and was obviously very knowledgeable. A few days later we received a color drawing of a design he had in mind. It was fabulous -- but the estimate was much more than we wanted to pay at this time. We said if he could break the plan down into phases, and do what he could to keep the first phase under a particular dollar amount, if we were happy with his work after the first phase we would call him back at some point to do more. He drew up another plan, and we went with that one. It looks great, even in December. Can't wait to see it in spring!! The arrival of spring and summer, and the emerging of the bulbs and blooming azaleas and crape myrtle, will be the true test. But I have full confidence that we will be thrilled. And the plants are guaranteed for a full year, so if anything happens they will be replaced.
Description of Work: Chris and crew planted new trees (crape myrtle, maple, arborvitae), shrubs (azaleas and holly), spring-blooming bulbs, and added a few flagstone steps for a path through the mulch, all according to the design Chris suggested. Even in December everything looks great; can't wait until spring and summer when we can see the full effect.

Chris and crew were pleasant to work with. He had some good ideas and we spent alot of time discussing the options. He seemed knowledgable about plants and what works well in Tennessee, and came up with a great plan. The price seemed high, but proved to be competitive. The installation went well and everything was left neat and looking fantastic. He returned a few days later to cheerfully move a few plants around. They even came to my house and watered the new plantings while I was out of town. Thanks!
Description of Work: Removed existing foundation plantings in the front yard and replaced with new laurels, spirea, roses, dogwood, liriope and holly. Relocated some perennials. Did total yard clean up by pruning out of control shrubbery, pulling weeds, digging bed edges, spreading mulch and pinestraw.
Chris came to my home to estimate rejuvenating an area < 1000 sf that would not grow grass. It's on the North side of my home and in heavy shade. I had asked for replacement of some topsoil that had eroded with rain, possible shade tolerant ground cover with mulch to hold the soil and minimize erosion, and drip irrigation. Chris came to inspect, but never followed up. Two calls and two eMails failed to garner a response. I suspect my job was not lucrative enough for him to get involved. I can accept that, but what I cannot accept is the unprofessionalism of not responding to my personal inquiries as to cost, availability, etc. In my opinion, if one cannot communicate effectively before the sale, what kind of communication might we expect if I had paid him to do the work and some sort of issue developed? I just won't go there, and I hope you won't either. There are plenty of reputable professionals who will shoot straight and deal with you like an adult. Don't take a chance on this guy.By the way, I ended up spending just above $3K with another landscaper I'd worked with before, and I'm completely thrilled with the results!

Response from Crenshaw Landscaping
I met with [member name removed] to review his problem area. After the review, while on site I gave him a verbal estimate to gage his interest. He scoffed at my estimate of $5 per plant for the plant, installation and year guarantee saying that he had found the some ground cover online for $0.41 each. My estimate of $500 for plants $1,000 for topsoil, $300 for irrigation and $500 for mulch was way to high. I also informed him that August was not the best time to install small plants and he would be better off, based on my experience, with fewer larger $10 plants that would have a large enough root system to survive. I left the meeting with the feeling that he was not looking for a quality service but an inexpensive solution for a very problematic area. I felt, from his attitude and comments, that he didn't respect my expertise in trying to provide him with the best overall solution that my 20+ years in the business had to offer. With other work to choose from, I decided that pursuing this project further was not in the best interest for my company's valuable time. I am always willing to work with a clients budget and most often have to re-align their expectations but I will always work back and forth to come to a workable solution for both of us that will provide the best solution for the client's budget and time constraints as well as the health of the plants. I'm glad that he found a solution in the end that he was happy with. Chris Crenshaw

We were pleased with the job. The brick work was excellent. They cleared up a section of our driveway and made sure it was re-barbed and secure. I am very happy with all of it. Their price was competitive and I think they were better than some. They gave us excellent service. They also gave us suggestions for the future and how the water should flow. We are on a hill and he gave us suggestions. He did a lot of extra things without charging. He was a good worker and designer and I was very pleased. He came when he said he was going to come and he was professional.
Description of Work: I used the service of Crenshaw Landscaping about two months ago to do some brick work. They re-mulched everything and also did landscaping. They did some work on a retainer wall.
