Description of Work: The provider was doing the check of my AC unit and without asking me just replaced the capacitor. He notified me that the cost would be $104 AFTER he swapped out my old part. Nothing was wrong with my unit, this was only a check-up. He said that the life of the part that I had would go out soon and that it was getting old. He left me the part box of the new one. It was $9 on Amazon.com for the part and his company marked up the price to $104 - that's 1150% markup. Plus I paid the cost of coming out + the cost of Angie's List. Money wasted. Never again will I do Angie's list or that company.

Description of Work: I bought a package to have them check out my air. They confirmed that I had a freon leak and recommended I looked into seeing if the work was covered under warranty. The recommendation saved me some money. I would use again.

Description of Work: Great service, and I purchased a full year service plan! I especially like that they didn't try to upsell products or services we don't need. Very nice people to work with!

Description of Work: This is the second year in a row I used Mechanical Doctor to check out my compressor etc for the summer. They are always very detailed and when I asked about a vent cleaning they said you don't have to do that everyyear which saves money they said that is what the vent filters are for

Description of Work: I had them come out to do a general service on my AC unit before turning it on for the season. They cleaned all of the coils, etc and did everything that I expected for this service. When they started the unit, it wouldn't start but they figured out that a wire was broken and this is why it wouldn't turn on. They fixed it within an hour and charged me reasonably for the repair. I have used other more expensive companies in the past (the one that advertises on TV with "Bobby") and have been far happier with the Mechanical Doctor!

Description of Work: I purchased the $89 fireplace cleaning deal. Let me start out by saying that I called Mechanical Doctor before I purchaed the deal to let them know my fireplace and stopped working 2 days prior and I wanted to know if I should purchase this deal or just schedule a diagnostic appointment to see the cause of the pilot not lighting. I was instructed to purchased the deal. The technician came in time and was very friendly. Cleaned the until told me I needed a part and would call back with the part cost. | |The next day I recieve a call from someone telling me that the part would be $550 for parts and Labor. 3 hours later I receive a call that states that price was wrong and it would actually cost about $100 more. Who does business like that?!? | |I thought the price was fairly high so I found another company on Angie's List that specializes in fireplaces had someone come out inspect and told me right there he would call the manufacture and give me a price. 10 minutes later I get a price for $250 including parts and labor. This company installed the part and my fireplace is now working for more than half the cost. | |I know that different companies have different prices but when the price is that huge I tend to think that this company is getting over on its customer. I would not recommend Mechanical Doctor to my family or friends.
