Everything was done with the utmost care and expertise. The specialists for each service were excellent. Bob and Curt did the bathrooms and they worked so very hard! The upstairs bathroom had cement floors and walls that had to e removed. They were always prompt and cleaned up after themselves all the time. It was evident that they really cared about the work performed. The doors were installed with expertise as well. I will definitely use Howell again! I recommend them highly.
Even though the finished product looked very nice, it was the behind the walls that their truce colors showed. We have had to redo the bathroom because of shoddy workmanship. The plumbing was not up to code and instead of gutting the bathroom (which we were told they would do) they dry walled over the wall. There was not proper spacing between the commode and tub and the exhaust fan was not vented properly. As bad as this sounds we have just found out the kitchen was much worse. It started by replacing the light fixture when we discovered the light was not attached to a junction box. When on part of the wall and a small section of the ceiling was opened up we found four junction boxes hidden in the ceiling which is not up to code. In addition all but one did not have a cover plate. There was a fire in one junction box because they improperly wired it. We are very lucky the house did not catch on fire but it would have at some time. There were three areas were wires were spliced together. They were not even in a junction box. There were two junction boxes hidden in the wire and both did not even have a cover plate on them. They also disconnected an outside exhaust fan but they left the live wire in the wall. They did not completely gut the kitchen as they were suppose to. Plus, they did not cap a ventilation pipe. They just put the wall up against it. The last big issue was they cut out a portion of our wall between the kitchen and dining room to open the area. The wall section they cut out was part of a load bearing wall. When I questioned it I was assured they would properly shore up the wall. I also asked should they get building permits and they said it wasn't required which I have since found out that is a lie. They altered the structure of the house so a permit was required. My ceiling is starting to sag so now I have to get a contractor in and repair my wall and ceiling to make the structure sound. I have had all the electrical redone to make my house safe in that regard. To sum it up, we paid Howell Remodeling a significant amount of money to do remodeling and when they were done they were done they left my house structurally unsound and a fire hazard with their electrical work. I have taken pictures of the kitchen and I will be filing a complaint with The BBB. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THEIR SLICK SALES APPROACH! Where the junction box was burning, it was between my bedroom and the bedroom were our granddaughter sleeps when she comes over to visit. If there would have been a bigger fire I might not have been able to get her out safely. She is only 4. DON'T LET THEM PUT YOUR FAMILY AT RISK! DON'T USE THEM. You may pay a little more (that's were they get you with a cheap price) but get a real contractor to do your work, not them. Demand permits and inspections of their work. If they bulk, do not use them.
"This is not our company, we have never. Done any work for this person. Our company was. Formed in 2001, three years after the date the work was said to have been done. Our attorney is considering what steps to take at this point but I suggestyou remove this as soon as possible in the interest of FairPlay. This person purchased work from Charles Howell remodeling, mr howell passed away , I believe, in 1999. No. One who did work on this persons house is employed by our company."
