Work was completed in two days, as anticipated in their cost proposal, and was completed for the original estimate with no additional charges or "surprise" cost. The work was very physically demanding and the 3-man crew really worked hard throughout these two days. The work is also very noisy with all the jack-hammering, drilling, and tamping to backfill the holes. The excavation of the holes generated some pretty big piles of dirt and debris that were placed on tarps and the concrete floor near the holes. The work also generated a lot of fine concrete dust that still managed to get everywhere despite my efforts to put up plastic sheeting barriers to try to contain the dust, although it probably would have been much worse without the plastic barriers. The contractor does NOT put up any plastic barriers to try to contain dust, the owner is responsible for this work, as well as clearing everything away from the wall areas where the piers were installed. The contractor did put down tarps to cover floor paths to work areas, except where I had already put down plastic sheeting to cover floors. The contractor's crew cleaned up the work areas surprising well considering the size of the dirt piles, and they also volunteered to remove and dispose of all of the plastic sheeting that I had put up, which I readily accepted to make things easier for me. Josh Emery, the service advisor that prepared the estimate for the work explained the entire work process very well ahead of time, and everything went the way I had been told it would. The Foreman, Nate Strobel, and his crew were very cordial and informative throughout the project. Baker's Waterproofing's proposed scope of work for the project was more comprehensive than the work proposed by other contractors and their cost for the project was still significantly lower than the other estimates I obtained. I am very satisfied with their approach to the problem and the work that was performed, and I would highly recommend them for similar work.
Description of Work: Installed eight (8) foundation piers from inside basement to stabilize settling foundation and one (1) galvanized steel support column to stabilize existing steel I-beam supporting center of house. Work required jack-hammering hole (about 2' x 2') through concrete floor slab, excavating about 2-3 feet down to get below footer, drilling/jack-hammering out notch in concrete footer back to the foundation wall, installing L-shaped support bracket under footer, hydraulically driving cylindrical foundation pier to set bracket, backfilling holes and replacing concrete floor slab for each pier. A similar hole was required to set new support column for beam. Concrete and excess dirt from holes were hauled away by crew.

The job went beautifully. The crew was prompt and worked quickly. In fact they were finished a day early. The area was left as clean as could be. The crew was wonderful about explaining the job and equipment to me. I had a wonderful experience with Baker's from the initial visit and estimate. I was treated very professionally and was given any explanation or answer to my questions. I was never forced into adding a job which was not needed for my water problem. However, when my paneling was removed and we saw more cracking and bowing. The company was quick to respond and alter the job to help prevent any further damage to my home. I felt that the prices were fair and appreciated the fact that I could call George, my sales rep, with any questions or concerns I had. He was always quick to respond and always had an answer for me. I would definitely recommend Baker's to anyone. In fact, I will probably be contacting them in the future for a further job to level my concrete pads in the front walk as soon as I have some gutter work done.
Description of Work: Baker's waterproofed my basement by putting in a drain system, sump pump, rerouted 3 downspouts outside, installed carbon fiber strips to prevent further cracking and bowing, and installed a moisture barrier wall system.

Melvin and his team were great! They were punctual, professional, respectful of my property, completed the job within the timeline, and were very knowledgeable and communicated with us clearly and effectively. And they did an amazing clean up when they completed the job. I have an old stone basement that was always damp, despite running a dehumidifier 24/7, and despite our best efforts, mold kept growing. The Bakers solution of interior french drains with vapor barrier and sump pump has been working wonderfully. The air is dry and the bright white vapor barrier makes the whole space lighter and it no longer seems like a "creepy basement". I would gladly recommend Baker's to anyone looking for this type of waterproofing.

They were very professional from beginning to end. After a disastrous try with another company, Baker's made everything right! They even took off the $500 the other company made us pay for nothing. They have their own system and it works. We used to have to pump water from our cellar and two cold rooms. Since Baker's no wetness, no pumping. This is a great company and I would definitely recommend them.

Scott came to provide a free inspection and estimate. He approached the project as if it was his own home and provided recommendations on exactly what was needed. The project was a bit challenging because the crawl space is completely inaccessible on all outside wall exposures. Estimate based on agreed recommendations was received in 3 days. Crew showed up on the scheduled date on time and completed the project within the 2 day estimate. Crew was exceptional, professional, and courteous. Despite the location of the crawl space and the significant amount of dirt, dust, and mud involved, left the project with little clean up to complete. Baker was the only contractor to provide a full solution to my crawl space problem, were the most price competitive, and provided a warranty unmatched by other contractors.

They actually came sooner than originally scheduled. They were leveling several slabs on my driveway at the garage door that had sunk. The crew knew what they were doing and did it well. It involved drilling several holes in the concrete, filing the void with an expanding foam that solidifies in about eight to ten seconds. You could see the slabs rising. They measured the degree of slope away from the house to be sure water would run away from the garage, plugged the holes they drilled and caulked the edge of the raised slabs. They were pleasant and cleaned up very nicely!
Description of Work: Leveled driveway that had resettled after a previous company attempted to level it more than a few years ago. Bakers used a new process that is clearly better than the previous company had used years back.

Met with salesman in mid July 2014, and the soonest date they had available was 10/09/14. Salesman said this is a one day job and they often overestimate the amount of time these jobs take so they may be able to come sooner if they finish another job early. That did not happen. I got a call a week before the job was to be done confirming the workers would arrive the morning of 10/09. We arranged for my wife to take off work and we were finnally ready to go. The night before, we got a call from one of the workers saying they were running late and they would not be able to arrive until around 11:00 am or noon. I said OK, but call to let us know you are on your way. We got a call at 1:00 PM saying they would arrive around 2:00 PM. They never came and never called. I called the office the next morning and they knew nothing about it. The worker finally called and said he ran into traffic. He could not explain why he never called to tell us. They came the morning of 10/10 and finished the job by the end of the day. I was told everything would be covered and they would keep the dust to a minimum, but that did not happen. When I called to complain about my wife taking a day off work and they never showed, they said too bad, this was a two day job and she would have had to take it off anyway. This apathy was especially annoying since they spend so much energy advertising what great customer service they have. DON'T USE THEM

We scheduled this job to be installed on October 9th and 10th. The office confirmed these dates the week before the start date. Unfortunately the project before this homeowners was running behind schedule (by a half day). The foreman did call on the 8th to say he had to finish his other job and would arrive later on the 9th than first expected. He called the owner on the 9th to say he was on his way. Now it is time to explain what we did wrong. The foreman was stuck in traffic by the tunnels and was going nowhere. He told me he called the home once and nobody answered. He was going to explain that he are stuck in traffic but did not speak to the owner or leave any type of message. We absolutely should have called until we got a hold of someone. The foreman said he was wrong and apologized to the owner for his mistake. We ended up sending two crews there on July 10 so that we could finish the project on time which we did. The crew did not do anything wrong when it comes to what we were supposed to do for dust protection. The Service Manager upset the owner by not agreeing to pay them for taking a day off of work on the 9th. This was expressed in an apologetic way not a too bad type of way. The person who referred us to them called me and said the owners were not happy so I also called and apologized for our mistake. I agree we should have made direct confirmation with the owner that we could not make it on the 9th. I hope the owner will forgive us and we will use this example in training to explain why communication is so important. The foreman I spoke with last night also feels terrible and asked me if he should call them and apologize again. We are sorry.

The crew came in on time and was professional. They abraded the surface of the concrete block walls prior to installing the Carbon Arnor straps. The problem was that the process of abrading the walls--scratching them up so they would accept the straps-- was incredibly messy. The office called us a few days before the procedure to warn us to cover furniture and so forth but we had no idea that the dust from scratching off the concrete block walls would fill the room so that you couldn't see two feet in front of you. This went on for hours. The dust began to infiltrate the cold air returns and make its way into our living room. It billowed onto the carpet and onto a bookshelf in that room. That's when I called the office to complain about the volume of dust. To their credit, they handled the complaint promptly and professionally. I actually talked to the owner, Brian Baker, at least three times that day. Once to explain the situation, later to determine if we should stop the procedure and finally, after we decided to finish it, to negotiate a discount for our trouble. I asked for $400 off and Mr. Baker agreed to $200. Although I was upset at the volume of dust and suggested that in the future, salesmen warn customers as to how much clean up to expect, I felt Baker handled the job well under the circumstances. I was very impressed that the owner actually got on the line and made a serious effort to understand the problem from my point of view. Therefore I would recommend them and use them again if the need arose.

We appreciate your review of the installation process at your home. We attempt to communicate typical installation details and any pressing information in advance of the project. Of course, not all projects go as planned and we try our level best to face issues head on, as they arise during the installation. We were a bit surprised by the amount of dust during your installation and have made it a point of discussion for training in both production and sales. Had been getting water dripping down walls and on floor after significant rainfalls. Went with Bakers because of their reputation and they had done work for my brother a couple of years ago. Bakers scheduled Michael to inspect the garage and create the work order. Michael was very responsive to my numerous questions and we settled on the work to be done and the price. My only complaint with Michael is that he got my municipality wrong, which is significant because my municipality has much more stringent building permit and inspection policies. Michael said it was my responsibility to secure any required building permits and to schedule inspections. When I applied for the building permit, the code officer said that Bakers would know when to call for any required inspections. Fortunately, Bakers' building crew acknowledged this and scheduled the inspection at the proper time. My contract required me to remove a wall-mounted furnace and Michael advised me to remove the wiring from the wall where the Cleanspace wall system would be installed. My work dates were given to me shortly after the contract was accepted and the building crew arrived on time according to the scheduled start date. The job took 1 more day than anticipated. The work was done professionally and the foreman answered my questions satisfactorily as they arose. The work crew seemed to have trouble installing the Cleanspace wall system. There are a few bulges and wrinkles in it. I am concerned that the Cleanspace wall system hides the underlying block walls and any problems that might develop in those walls. How would I know if those walls started to buckle? My other area of concern is the manner in which the outlet of the sump pump was tied in with a downspout. The diameter of the outlet pipe is considerably smaller than the diameter of the downspout pipe. The tie-in is an adapter in-line with the downspout pipe with an opening in it with the same diameter as the downspout pipe. This opening is very close to ground level. The sump pump outlet goes through this opening and terminates just past the boundary of the downspout pipe. When I asked about this, I was told that downspouts tend to freeze in the winter and if frozen, and the sump pump activates, its discharge would be able to escape via the large opening in the downspout pipe. I am concerned about soil, animals, and other debris getting into this opening and clogging the downspout. Other than the two concerns with the work and my experience with the building permit, I am happy with the job. There have been several significant rainfalls since the work was completed and the garage has remained dry.

Ran into some unanticipated problems with the third pier because the footer was very deep. This 1 to 2 day job turned into a week but they kept me completely informed and they brought in additional equipment to finish the job. Workers were very friendly and professional. The work was scheduled to begin on Thursday, March 20 ;the crew showed up on time on that day and began work in the basement.. Bakers expected the job to take two days. They pushed to get the job done on the second day so that they would not have to work on Saturday. In their haste they left clothing and equipment at my house. In addition, the outside work was not done properly and the hole in my basement wall that was made for an outside drain was not sealed. It took almost a month for them to return and correct their work. I was in constant contact with the office, but it was not until I became angry and frustrated with Bakers that anything was done. The project manager had said they would send someone out when they were in my area; however he later told me that he was waiting for the crew leader to come on his own time so that the company would not have to pay for him to correct his errors. Basically, the project manager lied to me and put the company's needs above mine. They already had my money so I guess there was no rush in his mind. Mr. Baker became involved when I refused to deal with the project manager any longer. I explained the situation and he let me know that it had not been handled correctly by several members of his staff. Not all jobs are done perfectly the first time; had there been any semblance of good customer service on their part I could have excused the rushed job - but there wasn't. My basement has been dry since the work was done but unless changes have been made, I would not recommend using this company.

We have had a lot of communication with this customer but have not gotten very far. This property has stone walls and a thin cement floor with spring water being directed under the basement floor. Our interior drain is working and keeping water off of the floor but the basement is still damp. We have 1) written multiple letters answering their questions and explaining our system can not stop dampness 2) mailed a book explaining dampness and how to control it 3) reviewed the contract they signed that clearly states that dampness, condensation, water vapor transmission, and concrete discoloration are excluded from the warranty --they must be excluded since interior drains do not stop these issues 4) we even went back to the home to review everything in person but could not get anywhere I feel the harsh grades in all categories are unwarranted. I do not know what we did wrong. I am sorry that your expectations were beyond what a drain system alone can provide.

I am sorry to hear that you chose another company to perform the waterproofing for you. I hope the other company does a good job. Please make sure special precautions are taken since you will be finishing that space. Nothing is more frustrating to us than seeing a nice new game room getting damaged by water. I still thank you for the opportunity to bid your project.

My wife and I talked to Bakers at a Home Show and made the appointment for the estimate. When the rep from Bakers came out he showed me videos of a very professional basement wall repair and told me that the job would probably take one day and we would never even know that anything was done in the yard as they would repair it to the same condition as it was before they started. They installed 8 wall anchors in our basement wall which took 2 days, which they explained they had hit a bunch of rocks and roots in the yard while digging. Afetr they left on the second day I figured I would check the nuts on the anchors in the basement before putting all our stuff back where it belonged. All the nut where tight except for one. I was able to get 3 full turns on it before the torque wrench clicked. The spots in the yard where they dug were not repaired as they said they would be, but we waited a week to see how they would look. Before calling Bakers I tried to tighten the anchor in the wall that was left loose and was able to tighten it some more. After a week one of the holes had the dirt piled up at least an inch higher than the surrounding dirt. Two of the holes didn't have enough dirt. On one of the holes the sod didn't match the hole and I was able to put the full length of my finger into the ground around the sod. I called Bakers to discuss the problems that we had and the rep that came to the house had their service manager call me back. This man was very rude and pretty much told me that I was expecting too much, but that he would send someone out to look at it. The service manager came out himself and never even step foot in the basement to check the anchors even though I told him that I though there was a problem with one of them. He only looked at the yard. He agreed that the yard didn't look as I expected but felt that I was expecting too much. He said to be honest he felt that his crew did an excellent job and he was going to tell them that when he saw them.
Description of Work: We had a cracked wall in our basement. We hire Bakers to come in and put 8 achors in the wall to stablize and possibly straighten it. This was to be a one or two day job.

If our service advisor told you we were going to dig 8 holes approx 4ft deep in your yard and make absolutely no mess then I am sorry. I do not know why he would suggest such a thing. I am sorry if we gave you that unrealistic expectations. The tightening of the nuts you explained is totally normal and should be of no concern. If it seems to still be a problem you can call the office and schedule a service appointment. We stand by our warranties. When you called with a concern about the yard, we came right out to look at it for you. I do wish we would have explained our findings in a way that would not have insulted you. I am sorry for him being blunt. I hope you will consider giving us a better grade. If you ever need anything do not hesitate to call. Thanks.

Baker's came out to review the project and provided a quote on the spot. They answered all of my questions well and were happy to respond to additional question I had later over e-mail. I had this project quoted by four companies and they all proposed very similar solutions. I decided on Baker's because of their experience with this type of job and I felt they were the most responsive with a competitive price. Also they did all of the digging by hand. Some of the other companies wanted to use heavy equipment which would have required me to take down part of my fence and re-install when they were done. Baker's was able to had dig (in freezing temperatures) so I didn't have to touch the fence. That was a big plus for me. I am very happy with the results. Baker's even came back to review the job with me at my request (I'm kind of obsessive with details). I had to repair the lawn myself, but that would have been the case with any of the other companies as well. I will definitely consider Baker's for any work I need in the future.
