Oakmont Automotive

The guys at Oakmont Automotive were great! I originally took my car to another place where they told me that they could fix my exhaust for 700, then when I took it back after I received my tax return (1 month later). They added another $500!! I found Oakmont Auto on Angie's list and they fixed everything for $752, which I found fair for all of the work I needed done. They explained everything to me and didn't use the fact that I'm a woman to their advantage. I will absolutely be back!

It was the result of a weather related accident. It took two days for the work to be completed. The workers were professional, experienced and cordial. After the work was done they said that there was more than originally expected.

I communicated directly with the owner of Oakmont automotive - Chuck Shumaker and he provided a detailed quote prior to doing the work and has done an excellent and timely job fixing the vehicle. He replaced all four tires, front rotors and brake pads on my 2014 Honda Pilot for the right price and fast. I will recommend Oakmont to all. Ed-

Oakmont Automotive has a new customer for life. Chuck was incredibly honest, knowledgeable, and professional. I highly recommend him. After obtaining a significantly high quote for repairs to our son's 2006 Ford Five Hundred, we sought out a second opinion/quote (the original quote was more than the current value of the car). We researched local automotive shops and found Chuck on Angie's List. What a lifesaver. I explained the situation and he told me to bring the car up the next morning, He'd put it up on the rack and tell us if we had to replace the entire sub frame and exhaust system or if there was a way to repair it. He had us examine the car with him while on the rack and explained everything in detail giving us options. His quote was more than reasonable and exceptionally fair. He never pressured for any of the work and did not try to sell us on anything. He also worked with our warranty company to cover some of the repairs as well. The car has been repaired, inspected and runs great. Our family is so relieved and grateful to Chuck and Oakmont Automotive. Thank you!!

I brought my car here for inspection (made an appointment). The owner said that he was going to give me a new sticker but that my car really needed new tires. I was surprised because my tires were not that old and I don't drive that much. Since I have a Subaru, all 4 tires were needed (he said). I declined to purchase them at the time but went back to Costco and asked them about the warranty on the tires since they were not that old and ordered some replacements. When the replacements came in, the technician at Costco said that he inspected my tires and there was nothing wrong with them, plenty of tread left. So the ordered tires were returned and it was a lesson learned about Oakmont Automotive. They tried to sell me tires that I did not need. I will not be returning there again!

The date of service is actually my fourth visit to Oakmont Automotive. This is my review of the four visits from January to May. We are new to the area. I found Oakmont Automotive on Angie?s List & chose it because of the reviews. Even though there are other auto service providers much closer, I prefer to travel the distance for service that I can trust. I?ve taken two cars there, twice each, & am very happy with the work & service. Chuck responds quickly, explains all issues thoroughly & doesn?t try to sell you something unneeded. Visit 1 Work Completed: Jan 9, 2015 2005 Toyota Camry Inspection, emissions test, oil change, clean & adjust rear brakes, replace rear parking light. $118 Visit 2 Work Completed: Feb 18, 2015 2005 Toyota Camry Front left headlight replaced within 10 minutes of arrival! $28 Visit 3 Work Completed: April 3, 2015 1994 Buick Century Replaced front brake pads & rotors. Replaced an inner tie rod & an outer tie rod. Replaced 3 rotted tires & aligned wheels. When our 20-something son visited from out-of-state, his car sounded awful & drove terribly. Chuck explained in depth about all the problems. Given the time frame & costs, he suggested fixing only the safety issues. He listed the items to be serviced soon as well. I appreciate Chuck?s truthfulness & working with us on getting our son's car running safely. $897 Visit 4 Work Completed: May 8, 2015 1994 Buick Century Muffler & tail pipe replacement. Oil change. Chuck was able to squeeze us in during our son?s short visit. $286 Yes ? I recommend Oakmont Automotive!

I left the car for a new tailpipe, an oil change and a checkup. The shocks were found to be rotted out and the rear brake cylinders were leaking fluid into the drums. All had to be replaced. I saw the old parts and I believe that I got a fair price. They worked extra hours to squeeze in the unexpected work. Great job overall.

I scheduled the service 3 weeks in advance (scheduled on 3/20 for 4/3) because I needed an appointment where I could wait on the vehicle to be serviced and could not drop it off. When I arrived I was asked what I had brought my vehicle in for and if I would be waiting on it when I pulled up, yet I was not greeted in any way (i.e., no "hello", "good morning", "how are you", etc.). I let the gentleman (Chuck, I believe) outside know that I had left the keys in my vehicle for him and proceeded to the door marked "customer waiting area" with my book. When I went to open the door, I found out it was locked. I looked in through the glass to see the customer waiting area had no furniture and was apparently under construction. I was not made aware of this when I scheduled my appointement on the phone and told the gentleman that I would be waiting, nor was I informed of this when I was asked on arrival if I would be waiting for the vehicle. I went in through another door marked "office" which led to the vehicle work area with no customer waiting type area that I could see. Having no where to wait and no suggestions given by the staff at Oakmont, I stood outside and read my book. Thankfully I brought my own book and the appointment time was in between rain storms this morning. I was approached only once during this service by the technician working on my vehicle to inform me that my wheel bearings could use replacement. The technician seemed professional. At the end of the service I was approached by a gentleman (Chuck again, I believe) to collect payment. I told him I was a prepaid Angie's List customer. At this point he became more talkative, gave me a coupon, suggested some future maintenance, and thanked me for my business; however, this was our first interaction and there were plenty of opportunities for him to interact with me since I was standing outside and he walked within 3 feet of me at least 5 times without a single word or simple smile. The repair was quoted to take one hour, and the technician finished the job ten minutes faster than that. The wheel alignment was done well from what I can tell on the drive home. The job was done correctly and that was the highlight of the trip to Oakmont Automotive. I certainly did not feel welcomed, nor would I return due to my experience with their customer service. There were no factors besides successful job completion (per the quote) that were positive.

Fantastic! We live a LONG ways from this shop; however, based on my research and the reviews of others, we decided to make the 2 hour drive from our home near the WV border, through Pittsburgh (in morning rush hour traffic), to the shop for our 9 a.m. appointment. The 4 x 4 system had stopped working about 14 days prior; and with snow predicted over the weekend, we really wanted it fixed asap, as we live in a remote part of Washington County, and travel on many miles of gravel, dirt and steep inclines. I made the appointment on Tuesday, with the understanding that because of the distance, I would be waiting on the diagnosis and, if feasible, the fix. In order to assure the time necessary to accommodate me, they made the appointment on Friday instead of Thursday, which was still several days earlier than other places I checked (including the dealer). I arrived on time; and they immediately took the truck in for the diagnostics. Less than an hour later, they told me what the problem was; how much it would cost in parts and labor to fix; the time it would take to obtain the part; and the approximate total waiting time. The cost of the part they quoted was in the mid-range of the same part had I ordered it on-line for self-installation; and the estimate for labor was very reasonable. I said I would wait. They ordered and picked up the part; replaced the failed motor; and had me on my way just before noon. The system is working great. All of the people with whom I dealt were extremely friendly, professional and courteous. They explained, without condescension, everything they were doing and/or thought should be done. Unlike many places I have been, they did not treat me like "the little lady" who doesn't know anything about anything, instead speaking to me with the obvious presumption that I could understand them as well as any man who walked in the door. We could have done the work ourselves; however, the reasonableness of this shop's labor fees and the efficiency with which they did the work--as well as the fact that they did not double the cost of part they were installing--made it much more sensible to have "the professionals" do this job.

I left my car the night before it was scheduled. The next day Chuck called, as he always does, with information on his suggested work... along with the estimated cast. He repaired and replaced brakes and rotors. 2 tires, a rear window and the timing belt. He also performed a state inspection. AND I got the car back that same evening. Chuck and his guys are efficient, and Honest. I'd recommend Oakmont Automotive without reservation.

Great Service. Got in and got out. Appointment time given and right on time. No waiting. Very friendly and professional service. My car is driving much more straight. Will save on gas milage.

We own an old 2003 Chevy s10 pickup that was past due on inspection, in need of numerous repairs that died in our driveway. I looked on Angie's list for good automotive repair shops and Oakmont Auto stood out for its great rating and many good reviews. It certainly lived up to its reviews!! When I called and asked if we could have it towed there, it was no problem. I told them what was going on, and they said they would call when they started tearing it apart. I spoke to Chuck, the owner, the next day and he gave me his recommendations. He kept us up to date every day about the progress, made great suggestions and fixed that old truck! We told him we needed to get at least another year or two out of that truck, and with Oakmont Auto I feel assured we will. He is a very nice man that doesn't talk to a woman like she is dumb about car issues. My husband and I will wholeheartedly recommend this business!

It was great. I called Thursday, they got me in the next day. Before performing any maintenance, Mike called me to tell me exactly what they found. Most garages I've dealt with, I have to drag information out of them. Mike was very open to telling me what he found and his recommendations. He was willing to have a conversation with me instead of blowing me off, which was very nice. They had my vehicle ready to go the same day, even though the repairs would have taken at least a few hours. Even with only a few people working at the garage, they are very efficient. When I picked my car up, Chuck took the time to meet me and talk about the business, recommendations for future maintenance, and keep me informed of when they have deals on tires, etc. Everyone was very personable and clearly care about what they do. Overall, great experience. Now that I moved to this area, I will definitely be using Oakmont Automotive for future repairs and maintenance.

I've been going to them for at least 4-5 years. I trust them implicitly. Chuck and his people are very honest and reliable. I highly recommend them.

I have been very pleased with the service that I receive at Oakmont Automotive. Chuck is very thorough and provides a clear explanation about my car, what service needs to be done, etc. I just went to the shop for front brakes and didn't need them. However, my current front brakes were installed by another mechanic incorrectly. Chuck fixed the problem for $25. I never feel pressured to buy services that I don't understand, really know if I need them or not. I recommend this mechanic frequently to friends and am very glad that I found him here on Angie's list.

I showed up early after calling ahead to see if I could be seen about a half an hour before my scheduled time. I was able to be seen early. I waited in the waiting room/pacing outside while on the phone dealing with work problems for about an hour and a half while the service was performed. It took a little longer than expected but was likely due to the abundance of balancing weights on each wheel from the old tire installation (not done at Oakmont Automotive). Because of the nitrogen I am entitled to free fill-ups and rotation for the life of the tires.

Very pleased. Took the time to explain everything in detail, including the advantages of filling tires with nitrogen. No surprises.

I was very pleased with the service I received from Oakmont Automotive. Chuck came to pick up my car and returned it which saved me the aggravation of trying to find someone to provide me a ride to and from the shop. After inspecting my 11 year old Hyundai Elantra, Chuck called to let me know about the required and optional repairs and explained everything thoroughly. I will definitely be returning to Oakmont Automotive for any additional work needed on my car.

I have been to Oakmont Automotive a few times for car maintenance and new tires. What I have appreciated best is the straightforward recommendations, with truthful options, all at a good price. When you deal with these guys even as a non-gearhead you get the feeling that they are treating you fairly and honestly, and only doing and charging what your car needs.

Very satisfied with work done. I had a state inspection done in July, at that time I knew I needed brakes. I asked the owner, Chuck, to give me good quality brakes and in addition an oil change and regular check, but nothing that wasn't necessary. The owner drove me home and picked me up when the car was finished. I was pleased with the cost, around $400. Chuck mentioned that with the miles and age of car I should have my fluids changed, but it wasn't urgent. I appreciated his honesty and not pushing to do more. I checked my records and decided to have fluids flushed in August. It was a pleasure to do business with Oakmont Automotive.

I appreciate the owner Chuck taking a few minutes to discuss options on my autos. He gives "you should consider doing this..." or "if this were my vehicle I would do this..." opinions almost every time I am there. I also give him credit balancing being an owner of the place, dealing with phone calls, his employees asking questions and juggling people/customers. I would pull my hair out if I were him!

They are very fair and thorough. We definitely trust Chuck, and we take the car in frequently.

I checked Angie's List, & saw that Oakmont Automative got high ratings so I called to schedule an appointment. (I called on a Wednesday, & got an appt for Saturday.) When I had to reschedule the appointment the following day (a Thursday), it was no problem even though I rescheduled it for the very next day (a Friday). I was surprised I could get my car in there so quickly. That next day, I dropped off my car, & went home (someone picked me up because one mechanic had called off, & Chuck was working on another car. It was no problem; I live about 4-5 miles away.) Chuck said it would take about 2.5 hours, & he would call me if he needed to do any work other than what I had scheduled. He did call to tell me the rear wheels were also out of alignment, & that I should get an oil change as well. I told him to do that work, too. When my car was ready, I didn't have a ride back to Oakmont Automotive, so Chuck's wife picked me up at my house while she was out doing errands. I had a great time talking with her. She told me if I had any problems with my car that I shouldn't hesitate to call her husband. As I was paying my bill, Chuck talked with me about my car. He told me that he checked, & topped off all fluids, & also reminded me about the free tire rotations he offers for the tires I purchased there. The rotations are needed for the tire warranty. My car felt soooo good as I drove home. What was even better was that I felt I finally found an auto mechanic that I could trust. I will definitely go back for other work that I need. I've passed this place on my way to work for years, but never knew it would be the place where I would find a mechanic who I know would treat me kindly & professionally, & would treat my car as if it was his own.
