We were very happy with the work they performed and felt he was well worth the price we paid. Others may think his price is a little high, but based on past experience with other handymen, "you get what you pay for"! They were on time, very courteous and very respectful, as well as great workmanship. Mike was very patient and polite throughout the whole process..from the intial consultation to completion of the job. A few months earlier, we had McClelland Home Maintenance build and install large storage cabinets for us and Mike and his helper did a wonderful job. I am already compiling my list of other handymen items that need done and I will not hesitate to call McClelland Home Maintenance to do the work. Excellent people and excellent work!

 + 0 moreI called Mike about the work we wanted done and left a message for him. He returned my call in a couple of days. We set a date for the following week for him to come by and evaluate the work. Mike arrived on the agreed to date and at the specified time. We talked about what we wanted done (two ceiling fans installed, a new electrical wall switch, and a broken step repaired. Mike took some measurements and said he would get back to me in a couple of days with an estimate. It took Mike about a week to get us the estimate. Mike said he would build a support box that he would attach to the ceiling joists and then attach the ceiling fans to the bottom of the support box through the drop ceiling panel. We agreed to a price. Mike said he would have to coordinate his schedule with another person he works with and would call me to set a date for the work. Mike said the date would be within the next two weeks and will only take one day to complete. This was fine as we were not in a great hurry. Mike called me and we set a date. Mike and his assistant arrived on the agreed date and at the agreed time. They began work on the first fan and the electrical switch right away. They placed drop cloths around to catch any dirt. While Mike was finishing the installation of the first celing fan, his assistant was preparing the support box for the second fan. As Mike was installing the second fan, the assitant repaired the broken step. Mike was very diligent about making sure the ceiling fans were securely attached. He even, after having the second fan almost completely installed; took it apart to reinforce the counting to the support box. Mike and his assistant removed all debris and vacuumed the work areas.
Description of Work: Mike McClelland installed two ceiling fans in rooms with drop ceilings, replaced an old electrial wall switch, and repaired a broken step in our cellar.

Description of Work: We have a tree in our neighbor's yard that is right at the edge of our deck and the roots are growing upward and are lifting that side of the deck. We had a couple other estimates stating that either the tree would need to be removed or the deck would need to be cut out around the tree, both of which would be very expensive. McClelland was able to come up with a solution that was very inexpensive, took just an hour or so to do, and solved the problem. They saved us a lot of money and inconvenience with a more reasonable solution when they could have made a couple thousand dollars instead of $150.00 on the job. I will definitely call for their services in the future because I know that they will be honest and will do a great job.

We added on quite a bit of work from the original estimate (and also added work while they were already on the job) and they managed to get it all done on time. Even my dog loved having them there! We will definitely be calling them again for estimates on additional projects. You can't go wrong hiring them - it's a no-brainer.

He said that he was very busy, but that he'd be able to squeeze me into the schedule in the coming month. About two weeks later, I received a text message from him indicating that had an opening in the next few days. I left the door to the garage unlocked for him and a check on the table on my way to work, and when I returned home, the job was done to my satisfaction. Great experience.
Description of Work: A large aluminum awning was removed from the back of the house, and a more modern, smaller awning was built.

He gave us a written estimate by email and was also kind enough to break it out so we could see what each part of the job would cost in case we only wanted him to do part of it. His price was really the only thing that held us back. We felt the price was more than we could afford to pay for the type of work we needed. We would certainly call him again in the future if we had another job, based on his responsiveness & professionalism.

 + -1 moreI think if he has too much business, then he should stop accepting more clients. Also, he needs to be able to take criticism when he has made the mistakes. We were willing to continue working with him, but he "was too embarrassed about his responsiveness and unprofessionalism." WELL, LEAVING A CUSTOMER HIGH AND DRY IS WORSE BEHAVIOR! Again, we were really disappointed becasue we had originally liked Mike and think it was clear in that we asked him back twice and waited, like fools, for over a month, while he ignored us!!!
Description of Work: Having used Mike in the past on 2 occasions, we were extremely disappointed in the fact that he failed to maintain the degree of response and attitude that he had when we called him for more work. Also, please know that we paid him well, above what he charged for the first job he did, so money was not the issue. We treated him fairly, caring and were extremely patient. He told us to make a list of jobs, because that was what he enjoyed doing rather than whole room remodels. We did that, called him and it took another call and email from us before he responded (over a week.) Then he said he was really busy and could not find any workers. We emailed the list to him and again waited over a week and had to call again, this time he said he was trying to get an apartment ready to rent, OK. Same thing again, but this time he had been busy helping his sister move. (Now 2++ weeks) Finally, he called on a Friday and said he could come out that afternoon, but was in terrible back pain and wa trying to get to the chiropractor. Again, OK (even though this was now 3 weeks) I said to take care of his back and call me Tuesday, hoping his back would be better and I had another appointment for Monday. The next time we heard from him was 2 weeks later. He NEVER called even though he said he would. Then, he sent an email saying he could come out the next day and to call him on his cell phone the next morning. We were amazed, but I called and he said he could "stop by" later that day. I assumed he would come by to look at everything to give us a quote for the number of days. When he came he had another guy with him and he said let me fix the disposal, which took him about 10 minutes when he finally got the right tool. Then they looked at what else was on the list and said "He would try to fit us in next week." Then what completely shocked me was he charged $75.00 for tightening the disposal screws. Honestly I was upset, but did not want to say anything in front of this new guy. The next day we sent an email asking for an estimate and the amount was way higher than his rate had been. I also told him how shocked we were to have been ignored for over a month and then charged $75.00. He gave me a lecture of what a plumber would have charged. Well, I did not call a plumber, I did what he asked and put together a list. If I had called him just for the one issue and he had responded immediately or in a reasonable amount of time, I would have gladly paid him his charge. I think that $75.00 for a few minutes was excessive, especially when his rate to us before was $300.00 per day. He became defensive and totally unreasonable. Personally, I would never have charged a client the money after making them wait over a month. The final outcome was he finally apologized, but then said he was too embarrassed to do the work. SO HE LEFT US HIGH AND DRY!!!! NOT PROFESSIONAL AT ALL!!! AFTER WAITING FOR OVER A MONTH!!!

 + 1 moreMike was professional and punctual, as always. I contacted him to do some work that a buyer had requested on a property that is under contract to sell. He was able to fit me into his schedule on relatively short (about 1 1/2 week) notice, did quality work, and didn't leave a mess. I often recommend him to my Real Estate clients--buyers and sellers. There are cheaper handymen out there, but Mike does professional quality work with professional quality service. Plus he is skilled in many trades so it's not necessary to hire separate specialists for every job.

 + -1 moreI called Mike, spoke with him briefly and described what I needed done. He called me back a day later to set up a time to come and look at the job. We set a time, he and another guy showed up right when they said they would to look at the job and he said probably take care of it right away. Mike gave me a price, they started working and it became obvious to me this was going to take longer than he had thought. This fridge was pretty much wedged in because the house had settled and the cabinet was resting on the fridge hinge on one side. The cabinet was attached to a side wood wall panel that was also wedged. They were able to trouble shoot these problem, remove the cabinet without doing any damage to it. They removed the wall panel in one piece, no damage to it either. There was an area of the drywall that needs repairing but that wasn't do to their work but where the wood had been attached to wall with screws and glue. I was going to do the wall repair myself and Mike told me and showed me how I should remove the glue area so I wouldn't encounter problems when I repaint. After the job was finished, I knew they had spent more time than Mike had originally thought because of the wedge issues. It is reasonable to me if some spends time more time than expected on a job they should be compensated. I brought this up and Mike only charge me a small amount more to cover the extra time they had spent working. It was just a very "small" job but I felt like Mike and his helper treated me like a customer who was having a major renovation done. I have some other areas in my home that need work done and I will absolutley call Mike back to have him do the work!
Description of Work: I needed to have a wood cabinet and side wall wood panel removed from around a fridge that has been in my home for almost 20 years.

 + 0 moreWe had a leak that damaged the ceiling of our powder room and closet the next floor down. Since I was going to get this repaired, I decided to get something done about a dripping vent fan in our other bathroom at the same time. I got a couple estimates, of which Mike (McClelland) wasn't the cheapest, but was reasonable, and he was willing to do all the work I wanted done. After the initial phone tag, we set up a time and date for the work to be done. He arrived on time, was very professional, finished quickly, and did a great job. They kept the work area clean and cleaned up after themselves when they went home for the night. We were very happy with Mike, who was friendly and responsive to our requests for info. I would definitely hire Mike again and would highly recommend him.
Description of Work: We had the ceiling replaced in a powder room, closet, and a bathroom. Also, we had the bathroom vent fan ductwork redone to stop a leak due to dripping condensation.

It was to be a basic bathroom remodel which ended up more like a full remodel due to me wanting to add new lighting and the small surprise of finding out that the old flooring did not go under the vanity. Mike adjusted for this. The start of the project involved Mike and his crew repairing the drywall and removing the trim and door. The wall and trim painting was next. He then replaced the exhaust fan, added the new lighting, and replaced the vanity lighting. By that time, the special-order flooring was in. It took Mike and his assistant one day to put down the flooring, put up the trim and door, put in the toilet and sink and finish up any other tasks. What a transformation. The room looks great. And the craftsmanship of Mike and his crew was well above average. Mike was easy to work with and did not get annoyed when I changed the scope of the project or accidentally throw out the drain pipe and had to run to the store to purchase a new one. He worked the entire day through and remained focused until the job was completed. Mike and his crew always cleaned up after themselves. He was neat and used drop clothes to protect the flooring around the work area. I will use Mike again and I strongly recommend his services based on my experience.
Description of Work: The task was a remodel of a half bathroom: installing new hardwood flooring, exhaust fan, lights, toilet, sink, water shutoffs, drywall repair, painting, and installing new baseboards and trim around door.

 + 0 moreMy experience with Mike McClelland was that he is a typical, unreliable contractor. I originally contacted him in October, 2011 about some painting work that I needed done. He did return my call, but not unitl about a week after I called. By that time, I had already hired another contractor. I decided to give him one more try, this time for moisture coming through an interior garage wall. He called me back fairly quickly about the wall, and told me that he wasn't sure if he could do the work but would stop by my house to take a look at the job. He told me that he would call before he came, and gave a few possible days in the week after we talked. I never heard from him again. February 12, 2012 - Thank you for the apology.

Although he was not familiar with the particular custom gate product I purchased from a company in Wisconsin he worked with the fabricator to make the gate and the correct size and consulted with them during installation. It turned out great!
Description of Work: Mike installed grab bars & shower heads in two bathrooms, installed a medicine in our main bathroom, put a drip pan under our washer, replaced the handle on our sliding glass door and installed a safety gate at the top of our stairs.

He was very patient when we completely changed our plan for the pantry shelves, mid-project. Cleaned up everyday. I stay home with 2 kids and I felt very safe being home alone with my kids while the work was being done.
Description of Work: Removed a wall between dining room and family room, including moving water pipes, air ducts and electrical lines. Also, transformed a bar area into a huge pantry, including framing, drywall, painting and installing custom shelves.

 + 0 moreThe work started in October 2011 with the demolition and new walls and doorways, as well as the removal of the old kitchen cabinets and countertops. A ceramic floor was installed and the new cabinets were installed. The countertops were installed in December with the new sink and faucets. We were very pleased with the end result and were able to overcome any obstacles that came up. Our pricing with the Contractor was a time and material type contract, with a base price and there were a few small items that we agreed to do ourselves to offset some other work that the Contractor did that was not defined in our original agreement instead of paying additional fees. The contractor was punctual and told us when he would be working and did what he said he would do. He paid attention to the details and we never had to address any issues of faulty work or sloppiness. He paid special attention to minimize the amount of dust and disruption to other areas of the house. We are very pleased with our new kitchen and the contractor that performed the work and would certainly call him again for other remodeling projects.
Description of Work: We remodeled our kitchen. All cabinets were replaced, a new ceramic tile floor was installed, electrical sockets were moved or added, new countertops, sink, faucets, etc. Also, we had our kitchen enlarged by removing a closet and installing a door opening. The work included demolition, framing, drywall, painting, installing ceramic tile, cabinets, plumbing, etc. We elected to buy the major materials ourselves (cabinets, countertops, flooring, sink, faucet) and have the contractor do the installation. The Contractor also worked with us on the dimensions for the room, the cabinets, the plumbing, light fixtures, etc. and provided us with sketches of the new layout of the kitchen that we used in order to purchase the materials that we needed. The amount spent above does not include any costs for the major materials that we purchased on our own but only represents the fee we paid to the contractor to perform the labor.
