Matt came to give us an estimate for repairing our drains, since we were having problems with water in the basement walls. Matt tried to put his camera down the drains, but they were so clogged with mud the camera couldn't be inserted. He inspected the existing drain path and gave us an estimate for installing new pipes starting at the base of the downspouts. They did not remove the old pipes (which meant they didn't have to dig up so much of the yard). In the course of digging the new ditch, they accidentally cut the cable and phone lines. The phone company had not marked their line and the cable was buried only about 1 inch down, so it's likely that others would have had this issue. Otherwise the job was completed as planned and in 1 day as estimated. And it did solve our problem of water in the basement.
Description of Work: Install new exterior drains and redirect the outlet to a different part of the yard.

Description of Work: I called for an installation of a tankless water heater. After examining my present water heater and discussing my needs, Matt advised me not to install at this time. He could have benefitted financiality by installing the water heater, but I was impressed by his honesty and would trust him for any future plumbing needs.

xIf using this plumber, make sure you have no plans at all that day. NOT punctual. NOT professional. NO manners.
Description of Work: I contacted this plumber last week to schedule a time to come out to fix 3 leaking faucets and look at replacing our ancient hot water heater. He said he was very busy and would not be able to come out until 11/1. I explained that I had an appointment at 12:45, but would be available all morning. He said he would be here no later than 10:00 a.m. He called my house at 10:50 and left a message that he could be here in 45 minutes. I returned his call a little after 11:00 and he said he had moved my job back, was on his way to another job, but could be to my house between 12:15 and 12:30. I canceled after reminding him that I had an appointment at 12:25, which I told him about when I set the initial appointment. He said that setting a two hour window was standard and that mine was from 10:00- 12:00. I said I understood, but reminded him that he told me he'd be here at 10:00 (even though the window was from 10:00 -12:00) so that I could make my appointment. He said that was "too bad, not his problem, and I could cancel." I said I would be documenting our conversation on Angie's list and he hung up on me. I have no idea whether Matt Mertz plumbing does good work at a fair price, but I do know that I will be looking for a plumber who isn't so rude. Is it really too much to ask for them to value my time? Is it too much to ask that for some basic manners if they are running late? It is NOT my problem. It is theirs because they lost at least one job today.

Response from Matt Mertz Plumbing Trenchless Sewer Repair Expert
The customer contacted our company to fix a few minor leaking faucets at her home. When she initially called, she was very short and rude with our secretary. She spoke down to her as if she was doing us a favor and was better than us. I called her that evening when I got back into the office to make the appointment. I asked her what days would work for her. She picked the day which would work for her which was 11/1. I told her we could be there between 10am-12pm. We ALWAYS give a two hour window due to the uncertainty of more in depth issues that we may run into on a job. I also told her that we would call to make sure that someone would be home when we are on our way. The plumber, Hunter, called at 10am upon completion of the job before the customer's. Hunter left her a voice message stating that we were wanting to come over to fix the plumbing. He asked if she could call him back letting him know that this would be okay. Hunter left his telephone number and also stated the time it was when he called. The customer finally returned the call roughly one hour later. Hunter explained since she did not pick up or call back within a reasonable amount of time, he had to go to the next job. Hunter explained that once he was finished at the job he was on, he would be more than happy to come and fix the faucets or reschedule. (Whichever one would work for her.) Hunter explained that it wouldn’t be for about an hour and half. As soon as he said that, the customer became very hostile. She started to yell at Hunter and use vaguer language. (She was yelling so loud that the customer Hunter was with could hear her yell and commented on how rude she was and it’s unbelievable that someone would talk to another person like that.) Hunter asked for her to not use profanity with him. He had to finish the customer’s work that he was at. the customer then threatened Hunter if he was not there soon, she would make a report on Angie's List and 'We will regret crossing her'. Hunter, in a calm tone, said that it would be impossible. The customer then said some profanity words to try and talk down to Hunter again, and then she hung up on him. Hunter did inform me about this situation immediately. Our company does its best to work with customers and above all make sure the work is to satisfaction and leave the customer happy with choosing our company. As seen in the above report- you cannot always make customers happy, even if you do not do the work. It seems as if the customer may be going through a rough time in her life right now, and may have taken it out on the wrong person. This company is everything to me and I would never do anything to try and put it in harm’s way!

It was a very good experience and I was very pleased with them. I have an older house and they fixed two washers in the bathroom sink and underneath we stripped the threads on the shut off valve as we tried to fix it ourselves. We had something leaking down from the third bathroom into the second bathroom. They found that the overflow valve was malfunctioning and they fixed that also. I definitely liked them and they were very prompt in responding. If it were an emergency they would try and come earlier. I called them on Thursday and Monday was the best they could do to come out. If it was an emergency they would have responded sooner but we didn’t have one. The leak from the faucet was going on for a little while, while I was trying to decide if I could fix it or whom to call. They are very courteous and very efficient. I had to leave for a class at 12 and they were finished within 2 hours all together and you never know with old plumbing what is going to happen. Everything is fine and I am very pleased with them. There are no complications.

Sewer drain in basement backed up around 11:00 PM. Called Matt at 6:45 AM the next morning. He said he could be there between 8:00 and 8:15 that morning, and arrived exactly as promised. After a quick set-up he proceeded to snake the sewer drain. Within minutes he cleared the blockage and everything was back to normal. I was extremely happy with Matt's responsiveness and professionalism. Great work... keep it up! I would definitely call Matt again in the future.

The whole experience was wonderful! They were prompt & professional, diagnosed the problem quickly and accurately and scheduled the job as a priority.
Description of Work: I was selling my parents house - the week before closing and water was coming into the basement. Matt Mertz Plimbing was there within 24 hours, diagnosed the problem and was able to fix it within 4 days - that included excavating the basement floor to tie a non-functioning drain into another pipe that went to the sewer. They also repaired the connection between the water treatment system and the well pump eliminating the gushing water. The work was great - these guys put in a 9 hour day on a Saturday! I was able to re-tile the floor on Monday and we closed on Friday!

Excellent. The contractor returned my call promptly, and was able to work within my schedule which needed quick attention. We called this company because we have original plumbing in our bathroom that had leaking faucets. My husband usually does small plumbing jobs like this would have been (replace washers) but was a little nervous due to the age of the faucets. We arranged for them to come out to the house approximately at 11am. They called at approximately 9:30am to tell us that they were running early & would we mind if they came earlier. They showed up at around 10am. They fixed the leaking faucets AND put a new valve on the main water supply pipe AND put a new hose bib in the garage in what I felt was an amazing amount of time. I could not believe how quick they were--I think they finished everything in under one hour! I wish I could remember the names of the gentlemen that did the work, they were very nice, polite, and efficient. I feel that the amount they charged was extremely reasonable. I would recommend this company to others & we will use them again!

They arrived when scheduled and installed new water heater in a reasonable timeframe. However, they did not have all the proper fittings for gas line (they used one of my fittings I had for a future project), and they had to jerry-rig the water input and output connections to work with the limited copper connections they had brought. It all worked, but was not a professional way of doing things. I went outside and found they were draining my old water heater onto my back lawn. Water & a lot of crud spewed onto the grass. A few days later a splotch of grass had turned brown and now, 10 days later, a much bigger area has turned brown. Then, to top it off, they refused to honor the Angie's List coupon because the price they quoted was supposedly a sale price - even though it was in line with other highly rater plumbers for comparable water heaters.
Description of Work: Contacted them for a replacement water heater. They quoted a price of $495 (supposedly on sale), which was cometititve with $499 price from Mr WaterHeater and another local plumber. Since it was not an emergency. they came about a week later.

$495
Response from Matt Mertz Plumbing Trenchless Sewer Repair Expert
Price of $495 is the sale price, normally $595. This is why we did not take the coupon. We sell a better quality tank than these "chain" companies and also send out licensed plumbers to install the tanks, which these companies do not. We scheduled the work and arrived on time. Each of our service trucks are well stocked to complete tasks and we are not short parts. This man told us how he normally installs his own tank but just did not have the spare time. He offered us one fitting for the gas line that he had in his box of parts which he gave to our men to "get rid of”. Showing his unwarranted pretend knowledge of plumbing, he critiqued our men as they worked and made improper suggestions on how to install the tank to which he had minimal knowledge. His previous tank was installed with several code violations that we undated with no charge. These are the repairs he states "jerry rigged". The water connections we use are up to all current codes and we hook up to the existing pipe that is available. It seems odd to me that the grass would be killed as it is the same water that you drink. There may have been some sediment, but in over my 13 years of experience, I have never seen it kill anyone's grass. The customer never complained to myself or my men. If anyone ever has a complaint, we make sure to take care of it and fully back up our work. I guess in life, unfortunately you cannot please everyone. But according to our reviews, we please most. Hire again-No. To be honest, we do not want customers that lie and try to slander our good reputation that we work very hard for and strive to keep. Our customers are our #1 priority. As shown by our 100+ A reviews, I guess unfortunately we're due for an erroneous review.

It went great! I dread calling plumbers, my home is 6 years old and we went through four while building it. They were on time, had a reasonable price, explained the work needed thoroughly. I have already told three friends and family members about them. This experience is exactly why I joined Angie's List.
Description of Work: I called because water heater has been leaking, and pipes are noisy in the walls. They installed a new expansion tank onto the water heater. Additionally they installed a pressure control valve.

Overall: Excellent service and affordable. The plaster on our first floor wall started to crumble close to the ceiling. We figured it was the second floor bathroom above that was the issue. Since the plumbing for the second floor bathroom is inaccessible, it is behind a wall of plaster, we decided to call a pro to evaluate and possibly fix the problem. After reading reports on Angie's List, we chose Matt Mertz. I called from work the next day, figuring we'd book something soon, and was told that Matt would call while driving between jobs that same day to book an appointment. Sure enough, He called and we booked an appointment for the next day. Two plumbers from Matt Mertz came to my house. They opened the wall on the first floor, then the second, and spent about 45 minutes assessing the situation. This was not easy since whoever installed the plumbing in our home previously -- and this is unreal -- decided to encase the bathroom's copper pipes in PVC. So, you cannot see what is gong on. It was decided that the part that could not be seen, the bathtub drain, might be the culprit. They reset the bathtub drain, and we monitored the first floor wall for leaks. All dry, no drips. They cleaned the mess and told me they'd come back if I saw a leak. So far nothing (it has been three days). For the inspection and work, I was charged $90. That was fair and honestly, I have heard of some outfits charging a minimum of $200 just to inspect a problem. Look at reports on Matt Mertz and decide if they are right for you. They get my vote, but it is best to evaluate for yourself.

We called them based on their Angie's list ratings. We set up the appointment for a convenient time for us. They gave us a range for the guys to come. They guys called ~15-30 minutes before they expected to arrive and were very near to the minute they told us they'd arrive. Two guys came for the job. The bathroom is upstairs and they both either took off their shoes or wore booties to protect the carpeting. The shower on/off / temperature control was difficult to turn and getting stuck. They replaced it. We also had a slow sink drain and they cleaned it out. Total job took less than 30 minutes. The guys were friendly and efficient. Wtihin a couple of days of the job, they sent us a report card. We will definately use them again.

based on his angie's list rating, i hired matt to replace copper pipes that had been stolen from a house i bought. as he worked he discovered other things that needed to be fixed, including the hot water heater (which had been flagged by the gas guy), which he was able to install the same day. when he discovered a leak in the shower faucet he took the time to cap it until he could fix it so that we could take baths in the meantime. he was fair, honest, professional, accommodating and hard working. he made a lot of adjustments without charging me and helped me prioritize future projects. it is clear that he loves what he does. the proof of that is in the 100+ rating he has here.

I was very pleased with the service provided. The guy came over and snaked the drain. He got the clog out and I have not had any problems yet. I found the price to be very reasonable, especially for same day service. A couple of the other places I called couldn't get to my house for 3-4 days. I would not have been able to shower, wash clothes, or flush toilets for that long if I have gone with the "other guys".

Came home from work to find our hot water heater pouring water out of the release valve. Called their number, a knowledgable person picked up and said they'd be out early the next afternoon. Quoted me $495 all inclusive. Arrived ahead of schedule (called first to be sure someone would be home) and installed a new heater and hauled away the old one. There was a $80 upcharge as they had to update the gas line that went to the heater per code. New heater works great, would definitely use them again.

Two service guys arrived at my house around 1:20pm (my window was between 1-3) and promptly got to my two issues I needed repaired. My disposal had not been working and I told them I had troubleshooted the problem myself and still could not figure the problem out. They fixed the issue in a matter of seconds (my disposal was clogged with an orange peel) and then five minutes later had my running toilet fixed! They were both very polite and professional and I was extremely pleased with their services. I would most definitely recommend this company to anyone in need of a plumber!

We turned off the water to our house to perform some minor repairs in our bathroom. Repairs complete, we turned on the water again, and immediately had serious leaks coming from pipes in the basement and ceiling of the first floor. We called Matt and described the problem. In less than an hour, on the Sunday afternoon of Labor Day Weekend, and out of his coverage area, Matt was here. He diagnosed a faulty pressure regulator on our radiator heating system, which caused several air vents to blow out causing the leaks. He restored proper water pressure and verified water was flowing properly. He described in detail the work that would need to be done to repair the heating system, and recommended a company that specializes in the repair work. Throughout Matt was courteous, professional and friendly. I would highly recommend his service.

We were very, very pleased with the service. We called to make an appointment early in the day, and they were able to come out the same day, later in the afternoon. The two men who came out were pleasant, polite, knowledgeable, and professional. The clog is open, and water is flowing freely. If and when we need to have that line excavated and replaced, we'll be asking Mertz to do it. (Their quote for that service was also very reasonable.)
Description of Work: Our sewer line between the house and the main had become clogged with tree roots. Mertz was able to unclog it using a cutting snake. Mertz also video-scoped the line, so that he could clearly explain the problem, and so that we could see the problem for ourselves. He included the recommendation that, because of the damage, it may be necessary to put a new line in, and was able to give us a quote for that service.

We were in a jam because another plumber that had committed to do the work changed his mind at the last minute -- too late to find anyone else for that day. This meant another day without water and another day off work. We called Matt's office, explained our situation, and got patched through to Matt. He said he would stop by that evening to see what was required and would be there with a crew first thing the next morning. They were here on time, and worked quickly. They did a very nice job, and took great care in minimizing the disturbances to our yard and landscaping. Matt took care of all of the phone calls to the water authority and the inspectors, and we had the repair done and our water turned on by 12:30pm . Matt and his crew were very personable and respectful, and we would highly recommend them for any type of plumbing work.

When I had set up the appt, he had asked me the kind of disposal that was currently installed so he was sure to have the right replacement, if needed, in his truck when he came to our house. He finished in a very short time and everything has been working wonderfully since he left.
Description of Work: He replaced our garbage disposal.
