We are so impressed with Matt Mertz plumbing. We have rented our 85 year old house in Brighton heights and our basement has been flooding on and off since July 4, 2012 - (please note that we live on top of a steep hill). Two other plumbers looked at the problem, one completely missed the boat, the other's quote was extreme. Our poor tenants had to deal with a busted water heater, and never knowing whether or not the basement would be dry. After weeks of temporary 'repair', I called Matt Mertz Plumbing from Ottawa Canada, and within 45 minutes, my call was returned and someone had come to the house a few hours later. We needed extensive repair as our tree penetrated the 85 year old pipes and the drain to the main sewer was completely blocked. Matt called me directly to explain the problem and give me a reasonable quote considering the huge amount of work needed to be done. They even moved their schedule around so that they could come a week earlier than initially quoted since it was flooding so regularly. My tenant told me how professional, clean, and efficient the crew were. Matt and his crew were very respectful towards my tenant and was vigilant about keeping the basement as clean as possible, finishing quickly, and keeping inconvenience to a bare minimum. When the job was completed (three days later), they had lain new pipe throughout the entire basement, as well as all the way to the main sewer. Matt guaranteed that the tree cannot cause any more damage and that my new drainage system will last a lifetime. He sent me pictures of the work that was done, as well as provide a DVD to see the inside of the new pipe. Because we are so far away from our property, it is such a relief that I found a such a thorough plumber with such professionalism and skill. We cannot be happier. Matt is a very knowledgeable, clear, honest, and hard-working professional. Even though we have never met face to face I have no doubt that our flooding problems are gone for good!

Matt Mertz's service was excellent. This is my first experience with using Angie's List, and I am delighted with the result. I have a terra cotta sewer line and large trees. A couple years ago I had had the sewer line snaked out and I was told there were tree roots inside it that could not be reached and that would someday grow large enough to cause a significant problem. Starting a couple weeks ago, whenever I used a lot of water at once -- such as running the dishwasher and washing machine at the same time -- water started coming up into my garage out of the sewer drain in the garage floor. Seeing the sewage puddle on my garage floor, I figured that "someday" had arrived. So I joined Angie's list, saw that Matt Mertz was highly rated, and called him. He came out the day I requested, tried to clean out the line with a cutting snake via access through the outside drain trap, and ran into a root block. He had a handheld sonar device that let him identify exactly where the block was, which was under my concrete driveway. He gave me an estimate, which I approved, and returned with his crew the next day. They cut a very clean access space, a couple of feet square, in my driveway, opened the pipe, and removed the root blockage - which was exactly where the sonar said it would be and looked like about a 10-pound cylinder-shaped plug of twisted black roots. Working from that one small access space, Matt cleaned out more roots from the rest of the pipe, in both directions. He gave me the choice of having him just patch the pipe and re-concrete the access space, which would have actually cost less than the estimate I had agreed to -- or spending more to have him line the entire pipe with a blown-in interior hard liner that would seal the joints in the terra cotta and prevent me from having to have the pipe drilled out again in the future. I chose to get the liner. He and his crew installed it, patched the pipe, and very cleanly repaired the driveway by prepping it and pouring concrete. My water runs great now. Matt and his team were very professional, courteous, and prompt. They have great equipment and their work is clean. Even the mailman said, "Hey, they did a nice job!" I am very pleased with this work.

Knowing we would be without water of sewer for a few days, at our request, they scheduled the work while we would be out of the house over the 4th of July week. Prior to starting, the work area was isolated from the rest of the house to prevent any dust traveling throughout the house. All of the ceramic tile flooring in the foyer was removed knowing we wanted to replace it. The new sewer line along with the new drain and powder room fixture rough in was installed, inspected , backfilled and concreted by Wednesday. They came back on Friday after the concrete had cured to reinstall our stackable washer and dryer and replace the leaky hose bibb prior to us coming back on Saturday. Two weeks later after the new tile was installed they returned to install the new toilet and sink in the powder room. They modified the sink and stand installation which is designed to be free standing to being secured to the wall because they felt a small child could potentially try to climb on it to pull themselves up. We would have never thought of that and were glad they did the modification at no cost. It was raining too hard that day so they came back a few days later and took apart the gas lamp post and blew out the gas line figuring out I needed to replace the main lamp head. They showed me how I could install the new lamp head if I wanted to install it myself but also said if I changed my mind I could schedule them back out for the installation through the office. (All very nice guys) I bought the replacement head that afternoon and installed it without any problems and it runs great. Replacing the main sewer line to your house is never fun, but it doesn't have to be a bad experience either. This was a very good experience.

His estimate was right on the money. His people were right on time. They were there when they said they would be. They did a nice job and did it real quick. They were very knowledgeable and left everything nice and clean. Their price was pretty much similar to everybody else’s.

I had an excellent experience with Matt Mertz plumbing. The guys were on time, friendly, and professional. They took care to wear protective shoe covers before coming into the house and explained everything they were doing. They worked hard to get my drain cleared quickly. I highly recommend this company for plumbing repairs.

I called Matt Mertz Plumbing on Memorial Day after finding that my basement was flooded. He immediately returned my call and walked me through what I needed to do to check my water heater. His team was at my house the following morning, replacing my water heater. This is a top notch plumbing company. The price was excellent and the service was timely and professional. I highly recommend this company to anyone needing plunbing services. I should also note that I have used other companies on Angies List for plumbing, and this company far surpasses them in quality and price.

The initial repair job didn't hold. They came back right away and took care of it no charge. Frankly, I was surprised they could fix it to begin with. I was sure I was going to have to replace the water heater entirely. Thank goodness for Matt Mertz. Great experience. Efficient and fair company. Will definitely use them in the future.

All appointments were on time, the pricing was extremely fair, and they redeemed coupons with no hassle. The quality of work was excellent and the service of the individual repair man was fantastic! I would absolutely recommend them to any member!

The basement sewer backed up in the morning. We called around 11 am and were told that Matt would be there between 4 and 6 and he would call 1/2 hour before arrival. Matt called as promised, arrived within 1/2 hour and got the job done.

It was the first time I had used them. It went really well. He was the only company that would come out at that time.

From start to finish, this was a great experience. I am a first-time homeowner, and have little to compare to, but I got a return call promptly, was able to schedule service for a time that was convenient, and Jim and his assistant (whose name I have forgotten, my apologies) arrived on time, completed the work expediently, and solved both problems. I thought the price was reasonable for the work performed and the parts necessary. I would not hesitate to use this company in the future.

After major issues with another plumber, Matt Mertz's Jeff came in and fixed it all. They redid an outside faucet, fixed the concrete so there wasnt a hole to the outside (had been left open by prior plumber), installed a new one handle shower to replace a two-handle one, fixed another shower handle installation that had not been done well by the prior plumber. After the prior plumber came, the cold water was suddenly warm and the hot water just tepid. Jeff noted that the hot and cold water lines were switched on my boiler, which had been installed by prior owners in 1995. He switched the lines and the water has been perfect ever since. How no one had noticed this before (inspection, 3 prior plumbers that had come in for other services) is beyond me but I am glad Jeff fixed it! They made sure everything was cleaned up and there was very little dust left when they were done, even though they had drilled through so much wall and tile.

This work was done quickly, professionally and well. Jim, the service tech was friendly, congenial, neat and professional. This was the 2nd time I utilized Matt Mertz Plumbing, and had the same tech both times. (Previous work was to replace a water heater with a high efficiency model with a new power vent and run the new necessary vent piping, since the old chimney was blocked.) Both jobs were equally well done and with excellent communications with the office and Matt.. This time I called the company in mid-week, and had a question about what brand/model disposers they utilize. By the way, a live person always anwers the phone. Matt Mertz called back in the late afternoon, gave me the info, quoted the price with discounts for Angie's coupon and repeat work. Matt was open and honest about the options I had (such as purchasing the disposer myself) and the costs if they furnished the equipment or I did. In the end I opted to have them furnish it. I would only have saved a few dollars and would have to go get it. The work was scheduled for Saturday in late morning- only a couple days after I spoke with Matt. (This was not an emergency repair.) Service tech called when he was 15 minutes away, and arrived within the time window scheduled.

I called them for capping a gas line; my second floor had gas pipes, but no need for them. They quoted $95 (visit + one-hour labor).Before they got there, I noticed two water valves were leaking in the basement.They fixed the gas line and the water valves *fast*, and were very professional and friendly; I'd gladly use these guys again.

I searched on Angies list for reputable Plumbers since I had to get a back flow test done by a certain date as requested by my water company. I usually call several locations to get different quotes, but I was cutting it close on time, so I trusted the reviews Angie's List customers left for this company and went ahead and called them to come in. Since I was having someone over for that, I figured they could also try to fix a leaky kitchen faucet & a toilet that was constantly making noises. They were able to schedule me in for the next day or so and the plumber Jesse came in exactly on time & made sure to put on booties over his shoes when he came in the house. He checked my faucet first, and said that he had just seen his friend's faucet which was the exact same model as mine which was also leaking. He told me that you could no longer find parts for the faucet so instead of him trying to fix it (and me paying for something that wasn't going to be fixed anyway) he suggested that we just purchase a new faucet. Yes, I will have to pay to buy something new, but it was nice that he was honest about not being able to fix it. Next he fixed the toilet by replacing some parts which solved the problem, & finally he performed a back flow check so that I could mail back the form my water company needed.Overall I was very pleased with the promptness, honesty & professionalism. I would definitely use them again in the future!

We were hearing a humming noise and the water pressure was changing every time we turned on the water. We thought our hot water tank was going to need replacing. We found Matt Mertz on Angie's List and read the reviews. We decided to call them. When I called I spoke with Lisa. I told her that we needed a new tank and explained to her what we hearing and seeing with the pressure. She was very polite and helpful. When I asked her if she could give us an idea of how much the new tank would cost she asked if it would be ok that she call Matt and get an exact cost then call me back. That was perfectly fine with me and in a couple minutes Lisa called me back. She said that Matt explained what we described as the problem didn't sound like we needed a new tank, just a pressure regulator (which was a much cheaper and easier solution). I really appreciated the honesty in what the problem was instead of just saying that we needed a new tank. A lot of places would have probably just replaced the tank to get more money. Not this company. I scheduled the appointment for them to come out and fix the problem. I was given a time frame of between 12 and 2 p.m. The day of the appt. Jim called and said they would be here right around noon. Jim and Jake came right on time, they were nice, professional, and checked everything. They replaced the pressure regulator and then checked everything again to make sure the problem was fixed. They then assured me if the problem did continue later or if something else came up we could call them and they would come back. We are first time homeowners and have had to have some other things done around the house since moving in. Using Matt Mertz plumbing was the first good and non complicated contractor experience we have had. We will happily use them for ALL of our plumbing needs. A big thank you to everyone there!

This company is terrific...and consistently so. They do a great job (we also used them for inside sewer line issues a while ago). Professional. Honest. Competitive pricing....that is, competitive with other reasonable companies (as contrasted to some estimates that were three times what Matt estimated). Also they clean up after themselves and are very aware of current regulations and specs.

The service and people were excellent and would highly recommend. This is the plumbing service I will use from now on.

From the minute I called I spoke with the young lady in the office and she was able to get me a very quick appt. When the men arrived they were prompt, courteous and very efficient. The work was done and looked beautiful. They cleaned up everything. They were so friendly. About a month later we called again to have a new pipe installed for the outside hose. Once again getting the appt that was convenient for me, was so easy. They arrived and were in/out quickly. They new pipe works great. they cleaned up everything they did. I have had some terrible work done in the past by other plumbers, but this company is great!!!!! I will never call another. I think the biggest thing I like about this company is I really trust them when they come into my home. Some workers come into your home and try to sell you things that you know you don't need or give you an outrageous estimate. These guys were honest, they told me what I needed and what I didn't need. I can't say enough good things about them. I'm so glad I found them.

We had just bought a house that had gas heating and wanted to use our gas dryer we already had until we noticed there was no gas hookup for the dryer. We contacted Matt Mertz Company to install a gas hookup line for the dryer. There was a gas line going beside the dryer that could be used to make the connection. Calling and setting up the appointment was easy. They were very professional and I was able to send them some pictures and get a quote in about an hour. We accepted the offer and set up a day and time. They called on the appointment day and said we can be there early if you like and that worked out great. They installed the gas connection fast and did a good job. We are happy with the work.
