I cannot say enough about how pleased I was with our experience with Matt Mertz Plumbing. They were on time to provide the estimate and for each of the service appointments. Matt, the owner, provided strong leadership for his team and they always took time to understand the scope of the work, offer suggestions and alternatives, work around problems, etc. Matt's bid was very reasonable and lower than others I had received and his team's work and professionalism was top notch. They were courteous, resourceful, timely and took great care to clean up after themselves each day. The work was completed on time and met or exceeded our expectations. I implicitly trust this company. I used them in the past to install a water heater and was equally pleased. Several people had recommended Matt Mertz to me as a trustworthy and talented plumber and I, in turn have recommended this company to many others. I would use them again in the future without reservation.

I called Matt and he was very responsive. He was punctual and very pleasant to deal with. He explained everything that needed to be done and his price was fair compared to the two other bids. He and his crew completed the work in one day and cleaned up the yard completely before leaving. But most importantly, he went above and beyond expectations. Matt knew that I intended to use a series of concrete pieces to create a retainage basin for the newly daylit end of the drainage pipe. I had the pile of concrete pieces nearby and it was going to be tough labor for me on my own to move them. Matt and his crew set up the retainage basin for me at no extra cost. I had never before heard of any trade, let alone plumbing, go above and beyond expectations like that before. He has a customer for life and I have recommended him and his company to friends and neighbors ever since.

The technician was professional and arrived on schedule. He really took his time and made sure that everything was working properly. He was very knowledgable and answered questions that I had in general for the system and other plumbing issues.

To sum it up, this was a great experience. Matt, Lisa, Jim and Jake were nothing short of professional and responsive from start to finish. From the moment I called and Lisa picked up the phone I had a good feeling. Matt responded quickly and stopped by to provide a quick, reasonable, and straighforward estimate. A few days later at the scheduled time, Jim and Jake came to do the work. These people are fantastic. They bring something to the table that I've found to be rare anymore...they do what they say they're going to do!!! They followed up when they said they would. They showed up when scheduled. The price was what they quoted. The work performed was rock solid and they left the worksite cleaner (yes, cleaner...) than they found it. I truly couldn't have asked for more!!!

Bathtub drain fix and pipes undereneath needing repair.

My wife told me that when she was doing laundry one day the water draining from the washer was filling up the stationary tub. Initially thought that the drain for the tub was clogged so I tried plunging it. That didn't work. I then tried to use the Drano Maxx gel. That didn't work. It was getting late so I left it at that point and my wife did laundry somewhere else (wasn't happy). Also the water would drain very very slowly and I wanted to give the Drano some time to get out of those pipes before doing anything else on them. The next weekend I got the P-trap off and took a look. The trap was as clean as a whistle. Tried sticking a coat hanger down the pipe that lead to the main sewer, found nothing so I put the trap back on. I also noticed that the water draining from the sink upstairs was filling up the stationary tubs as well. All evidence pointed to an issue further back in the main line. So it was 1:30PM on a Saturday and the wife was getting pretty upset at the possibility of having to take all of our clothes somewhere to launder them. It was time to call the professionals! I went to Angie's list and found Matt Mertz Plumbing. Their reviews were impeccable and they offered same day service! I called and a very nice woman picked up ( I think her name was Lisa). I told her what was wrong and she asked I needed someone today and I told her I did if at all possible. She said she would call Matt and then call me back. About 10 minutes later she called and said someone could be out between 2pm and 4pm. She said upfront that the price would be 150.00 since it was the weekend and asked if this was ok with me. I said that's fine and thanked her for getting someone to come so quickly! The guys, Jim and Mike, showed up about 3:30 or so and went to work. They cut the drainage pipe and used it to put a snake down into the main sewer line. They snaked the pipe. They had the drain cleared within 20 minutes. They then used a camera to confirm that there was no longer any blockage and the pipe was nice and clear. They put the pipe back together using a fernco. They also took the time to run the water both in the stationary tubs and in the kitchen sinks making sure that no water was backing up. The cleaned out the tubs as well since dishwasher "particles" were sitting in there from the backup. After they were done they went over everything that they did and also gave us some tips for keeping the drain clear of lint and debris. The price was 150.00 as promised and said let them know if we ever needed anything else. I can't tell you how happy my wife and I were with their prompt service, professionalism, and quality. In the words of my wife "Best 150.00 we ever spent".

Had Matt come out to give me an estimate. He was courteous, on-time, and professional - even wore boot covers. He answered my questions thoroughly, including some that numerous others had not been able to answer. He was not pushy in any way. I had an estimate from his company within a couple days and scheduled an appointment. Work was completed quickly, neatly, and on-time. The 2 guys (Jim and Mike) were pleasant and diligent workers. No issues accepting the Angie's List coupon. A few weeks after this work I called them back due to a backed up sewer line, it turns out something had clogged the main trap. I called them at 9am, Lisa was very courteous and got back to me quickly. Within a couple hours Jim was back. He remembered where I had him park during the previous visit and pulled right up. He cleared the drain, recommended some solutions to clean up the mess from the backup, and was on his way. The price was good, service was prompt, and he was pleasant. I was very pleased and continue to be impressed by how well the company is run, they will certainly have my business in the future.

We used a plunger and when that didn't work we used a pipe auger (or "snake"), which also produced no results. We contacted Mertz and they sent someone out the same day. He worked for almost two hours and finally got the drain unplugged by using a large and very heavy powered auger, which finally did the trick. He ran it through twice to ensure the stoppage was really broken up. He had to take off the toilet and send the auger down that pipe when the first approach through the shower drain was unsuccessful. If it had worked our bill would have been much lower. He replaced the toilet seat using new wax rings and also replaced the flapper in the tank while he was at it. He was professional, knowledgeable, polite, and efficient. He quickly figured out the maze of several drains in our old house to deduce the precise location of the clog. We will certainly call this company again if we have need for any additional plumbing work!

My call for services was answered promptly. They came out quickly, diagnosed the problems and ordered parts. My husband dug up the sewer line so, when he was done, I called matthew back and they came out and did the repairs. They were prompted, professional and very nice.

Another contractor was installing an exterior french drain, and while doing the excavation, tore out a part of our water line. We called Matt and he was here with his crew within one hour from that time. He restored water service using a temporary line so we had water that night. Unfortunately, the water line was unable to be repaired. He knew the job had to be coordinated with the water proofing company and scheduled his crew to complete it immediately when he had access to the site. Matt and his crew came the next day and worked until after 8 PM so that we could have water. They had to dig a trench 4 foot deep over 100 feet long. All the crew were professional and extremely hard workers. We can't say enough good things about this company; they are courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. They do an outstanding job with clean up both inside and out. We have used this company before and they have always been amazing. I would highly recommend this company to my family, friends, or anyone needing plumbing services - they truly are the best in town in our opinion. They absolutely deserve all the wonderful ratings that I see here on Angie's List.

I had a leaky faucet that needed to be replaced. Matt Mertz plumbing was easy to schedule and showed up on time. The faucet was replaced and I'm a happy customer! I'll definitely use them again in the future.

I woke to a clogged main house sewer trap. A service man arrived approximately 20 minutes after I called. He quickly assessed the problem, corrected it and was gone in less than 45 minutes. Excellent service.

When we received the fine notice in Las Vegas, my husband called Matt Mertz and he got in touch with me to come back to the house, furious as I was - in fact, the drain covers had been changed by the TENANT (as evidenced by the photographs) and what THEY did is causing all the problems. Unfortunately, to prove to the County and our sound mind that they didn't create more havoc in our lives, we now must run cameras down the lines to prove that they didn't stuff anything down the drains that will cause us future problems and Matt has to jackhammer up the concrete floor to fit the new parts since the tenants played the "switcharoo" on us. I was shocked at how young he was and asked if it was a father/son business and he said "No" - to find this quality person, so young, so professional, so knowledgeable and so personable - rare bird! Pittsburgh is blessed to have Matt Mertz Plumbing AND the Steelers! I can't say enough wonderful things about him, his crew, his service, his prices, etc - I asked for a stack of business cards as I keep referring people to him, and have kept a binder filled with ALL receipts for ANYTHING done at our house over the past 12 years and we have commented on whether we would call them again or not - without a doubt, no hesitation at all - Matt Mertz Plumbing is the answer to our prayers and a blessing that we found him and never have to look again in our lifetime. Now.... if he would just travel and help us with our Las Vegas home and my Dad’s home in FL too - hmmm - wonder if he would consider a mini-vacation because he is the ONLY one I would trust with plumbing from this point forward.

We continue to be pleased with Matt Mertz Plumbing. We called and scheduled an appointment with Lisa - she is so friendly and very helpful. Hunter was right on time and got to work. He was very clean and made sure to cover the area where he was working. Hunter noticed that the strainer body and rubber gasket on the other side of the sink (not the disposal side) was wearing away and needed to be replaced. He stopped work and ran out to one of the big box stores to get a new part. My husband wasn't home at the time (my mother was there babysitting our kids) so Hunter wasn't able to ask if we wanted that part replaced. When my husband returned home and Hunter was finishing up he explained to my husband about the part replacement and offered that he'd take the part off if we were unhappy that he had chosen to replace it. Hunter knew that it was going bad and knew that we'd eventually have to get it fixed and that would cost another $99 for a separate service call. We were very pleased that Hunter had taken the initiative to make the fix. We will continue to use and recommend Matt Mertz Plumbing.

I had a slow draining drain under the driveway from flushable wipes. Matt diagnosed it correctly on the phone and i opted to have a person out on a Sunday (thus the $250 vs a $99 sewer cleaning on a normal weekend) instead of a weekday because i did not want the situation to escalate to an actually stopped drain. The person on call was on time, very nice and easy to work with, answered all of my nosey questions, and fixed the problem quickly. Of course I would have been happier with the $99 price, but it was my decision to have it on a Sunday and not a weekday. But that aside, I can complain at all. Matt even suggested that for my area of coverage, he would come out but I might want to call a competitor. I did and got an answering service that was asking questions I would have had to ask the plumber to answer... so I called Matt back and they fixed it.

Matt is one of only a handful of plumbers in this are that have this kind of technology--he used a camera to inspect the sewage plumbing on a house built in 1925 that we were under contract to buy. He was courteous, punctual, and hard-working. He went above and beyond, working a lot longer than necessary to gain access to the plumbing. Due to the age of the house and the condition of the plumbing, many of the traps were rusted out and he could not gain access, but he stayed a long time in order to get the job done. Highly recommended.

The company I bought the dishwasher from couldn't install due to some plumbing work that needed to be done. I called expecting to have to wait a week or more but Matt said he would call back in ten minutes with a date and called back before ten minutes went by and was able to fit me in - in less than 48 hours. They arrived as scheduled - called shortly before hand - did the work - cleaned up and explained as they went along what they were doing and why.A fabulous experience!

We live in Las Vegas and own/rent a house in Pittsburgh, PA. It is difficult being a landlord from almost 2300 miles. Our tenants notified us of a "puddle" accumulating in the basement main room which is carpeted. I called Matt Mertz Plumbing and spoke with Lisa. She was very helpful and told me that someone would be in touch with me by the end of the day. The trick here is that we were dealing with a 3 hour time difference. Within 15 minutes, I received a call from Matt himself. We discussed my issues and he agreed that they would make arrangements with the tenant to get in to the residence as soon as possible. By the end of the day, arrangements had been made for someone to inspect the property the next day. They arrived on time, did a complete inspection, identified the problem and took corrective action. By the end of the day, the pipes had been cleared and the carpet was drying. They communicated with me every step of the way and they made it very easy for me to make informed decisions. Matt Mertz Plumbing will be on our list of "go to" companies when we are in need in the future.

Lisa, the office manager, is wonderful - friendly and very helpful. She was able to gauge the seriousness of our issues and schedule appointments appropriately. The plumbers were prompt (arriving within the window provided) each time and we received a phone call each time when the plumbers were 15-20 minutes away so we'd be prepared for their arrival. The plumbers were very nice, offered advice on questions that we asked and I felt very comfortable having them in my home. My only slight concern was that the first plumber (who performed the larger jobs) didn't leave the area 100% clean. There was dust from drilling and some small scraps of something (metal perhaps?) on the floor. Just make sure to inspect the area prior to the plumber leaving and/or set expectations ahead of time. The cost for the more involved jobs was $400. The leaking sink was a weekend service call and that was only $95 (not bad compared to other prices I have heard from other plumbers). I would definitely recommend them!

The guys did a great clean up with the hot water heater and disposed of the old rusty heater.

Matt came out to give us an estimate. We felt overwhelmed by the job (initially we were planning to do it ourselves), but he assured us that they'd be able to do everything we wanted with no trouble. They were able to schedule us quickly, and when they had to push it back due to a death of a family member from the head crew man (Jim) they offered us a discount before I had a chance to say it was OK. Jim and his partner Jake showed up every day, worked hard, and made excellent progress. They were always courteous and friendly, and concerned about making too much noise for my 2 small children - who were able to nap through all of it! They cleaned up every day and went above and beyond to make sure that everything worked properly. Jim even fixed a faucet that started leaking while they were here before he left on the last day, which I really appreciated. They worked will with the roofer (who came to flash the new vent through the slate roof) and were accomodating when he had to reschedule. I really can't say enough about my dealings with the company - from their office staff to their plumbers, I really felt like we got a VERY high quality rough-in. Can't wait to see it all in action when the rooms are finished!

The service was exceptional!!! I called and spoke with Lisa just near close of business Monday night after calling our usual plumber ( who was on vacation and his back up was booked until the following week) and others all afternoon. I had checked Angie's list and most of the manufacturer repsrated D or F (Thank you Angie's List). I did find Matt Mertz rated well so I took the leap. It was well worth it! Lisa was very calm, understanding and professional. She was able to schedule us for a replacement tank the next day forst thing in the morning! The guys showed up EARLY after first calling to confirm the arrival time. I then threw them a curve ball by asking if it were possible to get a bigger tank. They Mike called the home office and within the hour I had a bigger tank. Mike and crew even fought off a bees nest to install the proper vent. Teh never complained and were completely professional. They did run into a problem with the installation of the tank. A fraid wire...as promised they came back on time, same day with the replacement wire. However, they did put a temporary fix in place so we had a working water heater in the interim. I would highly recommend this company!!!! I woudl definitely use them again!!!
