Dan's Handyman Svcs

Things went very well and we're very happy with the results. Dan was one of three people that we talked to and got estimates from for installing this powder room. One other person's estimate was much higher, and the other person told us the job couldn't even be done. We chose Dan because he was very professional and personable, as well as because he came in with a reasonable price. Dan was/is quite busy, so it took a couple/few months to schedule the job after we accepted the estimate. However, after work began, things went very quickly, and the job was actually completed ahead of the original schedule. Dan and his assistant were prompt each day, and were great about keeping the work area very clean during the installation (this was greatly appreciated because the construction was adjacent to our main living room). All of the details were cleared with us before work proceeded. We are very pleased with the results, and indeed, have started working with Dan to schedule work on other projects throughout the house. I highly recommend you seek out Dan if you have a similar project you would like to have completed.

Dan brought two workers to the house. One worked inside and installed both ceiling fans with no trouble at all. Dan himself installed the door knob. The other worker was on the roof, because I initially requested that my chimney be repointed. However, after consulting with Dan he recommended that the chimney be replaced because it was in bad shape. I was very satisfied with the service and quality of the work performed by Dan and his crew.

Did a great job! The price was great - it was less than I expected it to be.

We had Dan do some work on a home we were selling. He installed a new kitchen counter top and installed a new radon detector. He is prompt, reliable and super friendly. His prices are great and he gets the job done when he says he's going to. Absolutely no complaints!

It went very well. I would recommend him. When he said he was gonna come he came and I haven't had a problem since. There was a problem with the sink leaking, I called him and he came and I had to purchase another faucet and he put it in and he didn't charge me twice.

The contractor we were working with to replace two bathrooms and a powder room and lay hardward floors couldn't finish those pesky last minute items before an annual Christmas party we host every year. After almost a year of remodeling, I really, really, really wanted the house DONE! I started making phone calls on a Tuesday for work to be done that same week. The (3) companies that I called (all from Angie's List) all called me back almost immediately. Of course, timing was an issue. Dan Cromeans of Dan's Handyman Services said that he might be able to fit me in between other jobs that same week. He kept in touch with me via email (which works better for me) and let me know his schedule and when he might be available. He ended up coming the day of my party in the morning for about (4) hours. He brought a helper with him, which he explained to me would be more expensive; but would enable him to move much faster through my "to do" list. He was right. Dan and his helper arrived on time, and were extremely professional and knowledgeable. They performed most of the tasks that I had left, and talked to my husband about one or two more that couldn't be done (and why). I was extremely impressed with their work, and we are planning on asking him to quote a new back porch when we're ready for that next project!!!

Dan was dependable, professional, and helpful from start to finish. He returned my initial call promptly and remained in steady contact with me over the six weeks required to complete this project. (The flooring company was very busy, and Dan was able to work with me around the floor install date.) Dan scheduled a date to come and look at the bathroom and spent a good amount of time talking through the options with me. He is very patient and good-natured, and I learned a lot from talking with him. He was willing to answer questions about work I wanted to do myself and he even gave me tips that I wouldn't have known to ask about! He emailed me a detailed estimate, and after we agreed on how to proceed, we stayed in touch until we were able to set the date for the rough-in. On the morning the work was scheduled he and his crew arrived on time. They were always on time, and because of this I was always able to talk with them before I left for work, which was helpful for my personality type. After the plumbing went in for the tub, I noticed that it was a little further from the wall than Dan and I had planned, so I called to ask him about it. He asked a few questions--he's great at that!--and said it was an easy fix, and the next day when I came home from work, it was indeed fixed. After the flooring went in Dan and his crew returned as planned and finished the job. I've uploaded pictures of the before and after. I LOVE my new bathroom, and I couldn't be happier with the quality of work. The baseboards, the new wall, the look of the plumbing itself--it is exactly what I had hoped for. I have already contacted Dan again for an estimate on installing some flooring, and I plan to continue using his services as we slowly bring our Lawrenceville rowhouse back to life.

I think I contacted Dan by phone first - we set up a time for him to come out and look at where the dishwasher would be installed (there was no dishwasher there previously). He was good about making suggestions in an informative, not-at-all pushy way. I arranged to purchase the dishwasher and garbage disposal - he was willing to pick it up, but delivery was included. I stuck around the day of the install - Dan and his crew worked the whole day, all very professional. When it was done he asked again if I had any questions. Overall, it's clear he knows what he is doing. He's very professional - I would certainly recommend him.

I was at work when he came and he was still here when I got home from work. He explained everything to me when he finished. Everything is up in the attic. When I was using more than 1 appliance I would always blow a fuse. Now with the upgrade i can use more than 1 appliance without blowing a fuse.

Overall, I was very happy with the quality of work Dan did & would recommend him to anyone looking for a contractor. In fact, I recommended him to my next door neighbor for his gutter repair work!

We received an estimate from Dan on March 23, 2012. We verbally agreed to the estimate by April 4, and Dan made a second trip to our house at the end of April to check the plumbing and make sure we could do what we planned to do without too much trouble. In May, while waiting to schedule the actual date of the job to be completed, we requested that we simplify the project and asked for a revised estimate. At this time, we expected to complete the project by the end of the summer at the latest. By mid-June, we had completed the demolition ourselves, and I had made a couple of follow-up requests for a final, revised estimate and a project start date, but did not receive a reply. At that point, because we had not heard from Dan for several weeks regarding the revised estimate and a possible start date, we began to look for someone else to complete the project. We did not receive a response from Dan until July 2, at which point I told him that had he responded to my phone calls or emails, and let us know he was able to do the project with revised estimate and project start date, we would have been able to move forward. My understanding is that he had some staffing changes during the time we were waiting to hear back from him and he was not able to keep up with the project as planned.

He was prompt in responding to my original request. He set up the time and kept the appointment and gave me the quote in a prompt time.

His rates were competative. He was very responsive and we email each other which is conveniant. He did a great job and I've used him several times. He's very honest and upfront. He's very versatile.

Great. Very responsible and punctual.

Previously (in 2012): He told me that he wasn't accepting new clients because he was too busy right now. In that simple act of setting limits for himself in a prompt returned phone call, he earns high ratings from me. Because his business is close to my home and from the good reviews I've read, I called and left a voice message on Friday, May 18, at 3:39 PM indicating the work I wanted to have done. He called a few days later, on Tuesday, May 22, at 8:28 AM to thank me for calling, but said that he was currently too busy and not taking new clients. The return phone call lasted barely two minutes, but I so greatly appreciated his prompt responsiveness and courtesy, that I'd definitely call him again in the future. When you've made as many phone calls and appointments as I have in the past three months, and encountered as many infuriating contractors who never bother calling or showing up at their appointed times, you learn to appreciate these "diamonds-in-the-rough" business people who leave a good impression with just a two-minute courtesy phone call. By letting me know he wasn't available instead of "stringing me along", making promises he couldn't or had no intention of keeping, he saved me countless time and energy. Contracting is such a trust-based business that I am astounded by how easily the lies roll off the tongues of service people I've interacted with in just 3 months time. One of the hardest lessons to learn in life is to recognize and respect your own limits. For Dan to put limits on the number of client jobs he manages indicates to me that he respects his limits. When businesses overbook themselves, they end up lowering the standards for giving quality service to their customers. So, even though he called to say "No" to me, I realize that in saying "no" to me, he was saying "yes" to his current customers, and that speaks volumes about his integrity and business philosophy. Instead of crossing his name off my list of future contractors, I can't wait to be one of his customers in the future to see whether my instincts about him are correct. Current (August 24, 2013): After receiving a lengthy and itemized bid from him to apply for a neighborhood façade grant this summer, I was awarded monies that would cover outdoor window caulking for four large picture windows on my enclosed porch. I officially hired him in June but the weather in June & July has been unusually rainy. I was under the impression from Dan's e-mails that proper application and curing of the caulking material would have to wait for several dry days with low humidity. I accepted the fact that he could not schedule me in until the weather provided several sunny or dry days in a row. In the meantime, I could not properly schedule my summer calendar until he gave me an exact calendar date for when to expect him. Finally, at the end of July I reached him by phone and he said he'd know by the following Tuesday or Wednesday when he'd finished his current job whether I could expect him on Thursday. I said, "OK" and expected a status phone call or e-mail on Tuesday or Wednesday. Never heard from him. I then e-mailed him a reminder that the grant deadline was August 30th, and that because I live near the universities, I could not guarantee curb-side parking anywhere near my property the week students were moving into the neighborhood. I hoped that would encourage him to come sooner in August rather than later. The last communication I got from him was an e-mail saying he would come sometime next week, mid-week, which would put him on Wednesday or Thursday, Sept. 28 or 29th, one day before the grant deadline! I hired this guy in June, and he has kept me waiting and wondering for almost 2 whole months! I don't like doing things at the last moment, and I will never hire this guy again! As it turns out, I got a good referral yesterday and long-story-short, the referral returned my call within 30 minutes, then arrived at my property to look at the job an hour later. He was sorry I'd gotten the run-around from Dan, saying behavior like that gives contractors like himself a bad name. I hired him on the spot, and he took approximately ONE HOUR to do the job! Before he left, I asked him to put together a bid for additional work I want to do later in the fall. Too bad for Dan: you can't string people along, giving delay after delay, not communicating your intentions nor giving scheduling statuses, and not expect to lose business over it. I thought he was professional last year (2012), but now I know he isn't.

I ended up not hiring him because I live outside his service area, but he took the time to explain exactly what would need to be done by someone else, which I really appreciated.

Dan Cromeans2101 Lonsdale StPittsburgh PA 15212(412) 251-7935 My antique (1950) wall oven stopped working. I had begun research before contacting Dan, and he advised me which way to turn based on his experience. I ordered the replacement part with his input, and then installed it myself. He was very impressive: professional, helpful, friendly. I will be calling him for some actual work soon.

He was professional and felt like he knew what he was doing. Liked the way he handled the whole process. If I would have gone ahead with the job I would have had him do it, even though he cost a little more.

Everything was excellent. They were professional and did a good job of cleaning up after themselves. They were very neat. The molding installation was very good.

Dan responded promptly to my email request and after we set up a time to visit showed up promptly. After looking at the shower door, he explained how he could fix it by simply tightening up the existing screws, but that to do it more permanently he would like to come back and insert more screws since the shower door had been installed with just the minimum number of screws. I liked how Dan explained everything in simple terms and he gave me confidence that I had the right person for the job. He provided excellent customer service. I will definitely use Dan again for other services.

Overall, he did a good job but he was not as responsive or thorough as I would have liked him to be.

What I did not like was that he should have included moving an electrical outlet in his original quote; he added it on in the middle of the job. Everything else was pretty decent and he is an excellent worker. I would use him again.

He came right away (within a couple hours of my call) and he was very nice. He did a pretty good job, but he unclogged my disposal in no time at all and charged $45 for that. I wasn't sure if that was a high price or not.

Everything went smoothly, it was a small job so there's not much to report, but Dan showed up promptly and did everything we needed.
