Overall, it went well. We had a little trouble hooking up. It was at a rental property and I went there at our scheduled time. Don Matthews called me at home prior to his leaving to do the job. When I didn't answer, he did not respond. The 2nd scheduled appt was canceled due to an accident he was in that AM but once we finally got together, he and his partner did a thorough and very neat job!! (although he showed up about 30 minutes early)

We had a chimney cap that had blown off the flue lining on the chimney twice. We call for an estimate. Mr. Mathews arrived 40 minutes early on a Sunday morning, examined the chimney by using our ladder to get onto the roof. Within a few days he sent the estimate of $850 which we felt was excessive for replacing the cap. He did not state if other work was necessary. A subsequent estimate by another company was significantly lower at $250. We opted for the lower estimate.

The two guys who came were very professional and informative. They determined that the firebox and chimney were basically sound, but there were a few joints (away from the fire) that could be fixed. They also determined that a small vent was the source of an ashy smell that we had noticed. They were very careful to not get any dust or ash in the house, and left everything very clean.

From the time he looked at it to the finish, he was first-rate, professional. I would certainly call him again. I never called anyone else, so I don't know how his rates compare to others, but I am satisfied.

They looked at the chimney and it needed a cap, they had to order it. They came back and put on the stainless steel cap. They were polite, efficient and very knowledgeable. They were honest in telling us that we didn't need to have our chimney cleaned which I appreciated.

Don arrived on time and discussed the options for putting a cap on the chimney. Then he climbed on the roof to have a look. He found that a screen on the chimney was still intact, meaning an animal could not have gotten in. He said there was probably no need for a cap, then. I appreciated that he came out, gave an honest opinion and did not charge me for his time.

Dan was prompt, thorough, and efficient in assessing our chimney following a small fire in the chimney. He installed a spark retarder, as we asked, to prevent other animals from falling in. He told us that the chimney liner was beginning to deteriorate from heavy moisture. His estimate for a flue liner seemed high, so we got a second estimate from our furnace company for that work.

When I first called and spoke with Don, he told me that he would come and inspect the chimney and would only clean it if it was needed. I knew that it would be needed, but they were upfront about all costs prior to coming to do the work. I found them to be very helpful, very knowledgeable, and professional. I would definitely use them again and would recommend them to anyone.

We recently purchased a house with a wood-burning stove insert in a former fireplace. Although the house was sold as having a working fireplace, I learned that the stove insert cannot be safely used in an unlined chimney, a situation that would not be remedied by having my chimney swept. The information was most helpful and honestly provided.

THEY WERE PARTICULARLY GOOD AT EXPLAINING WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND WHAT THE SOLUTION WAS. THE ESTIMATE ON THE PHONE WAS MUCH HIGHER THAN WHAT THEY CHARGED ME BECAUSE THE WORK WASN'T NECESSARY, WHICH THEY THOUGHT WAS INITIALLY.

THEY DID A GOOD JOB. HE WAS PROMPT AND VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND HELPFUL.
