One thing to note, we were not on site for 90% of the job. I met the crew which included the foreman Juan on the first day and felt comfortable enough to leave them to their work. I did stop by during my lunch and hung around/asking questions for about an hour each day. They were accommodating in many ways.....saving the original sump pump without destroying it, not going so high up the walls when cutting the drywall, gave me some good tips for when I start my basement finishing later on, capping the old sump piping. Also, we have 2 rooms in the basement that had carpet previously - after we removed it the previous weekend - we were left with a subfloor that I knew was going to rotted out/possibly with mold......fortunately no mold, but still a mess, Juan and his crew removed more of the subfloor than they actually needed to do their job - hence, it made my life easier after the first day as they left their tools, which I used to remove the remaining subfloor that night. Overall, I would recommend Thompson's again - my neighbor is looking to do the same with her basement, so after we get through a rain storm or two and all is well, they will have my full recommendation.
Description of Work: JOB: Full interior basement waterproofing system, 2 sump pumps TIME: 3 days (on time)CREW: 4 on the first day, 5 on the second and third days (we were quoted 4+ crew members daily) QUALITY: Very good - will be updated to excellent after testing the system - waiting for first heavy storm PUNCTUALITY: The crew was on time 2 of the 3 days, missing their start time only on the last day (traffic, to be fair - these guys drove over 100 miles a day to get here) PROFESSIONALISM: All in all, good with a few bumps, explained below Here's a little history, we have been getting quotes from waterproofing companies for a year now. We received a wide range of quotes (9k difference from lowest to the highest estimate) for a job that did not seem to differ much from one company to the other. Strange. After a mild winter, we decided to restart our search, and before we could even make one phone call - we received a call from Thompson's - who stated they could beat their previous quote. Mind readers? REP MEETING: Their representative came out to our house, he was on time. Did not receive the full pitch, since we had them out about 6 months earlier, but what he showed us was sufficient to refresh our knowledge of the process. He beat his company's previous estimate by $1250. Sold. ($1,000 deposit) FIRST DAY: (On time, 4 workers) Demolition, which included cutting out about 1.5 feet high of already finished drywall along the floor all the way around (basement was 90% finished), they did a good job by not going to high up on the wall, should make for easier repair later on. We had prepped the two days leading up to the first day by organizing our storage stuff (totes, desks, mirrors, clothes, etc) which hopefully made their job a bit easier. They taped off everywhere for the forthcoming jack-hammering, from the entrance to the basement, kitchen side door, washer/dryer, and our storage stuff.....the only complaint for this part of the job was the removal of the tape - i guess the tape was heavy duty because they pulled off some paint with the tape, a little bit of touch up work for me, but still unnecessary. During this day, they also removed all the base board heating. Again, a little sloppy with storing the pipes/metal - probably could've been done a bit neater/more organized. SECOND DAY: (On time, 5 workers) Jack-hammering all day, debris removal, initial system install. They did a good job of cleaning up after themselves on this day. I also noticed the pipes/metalwork for the heating was moved to a more open area, probably not for any other reason than they needed to get in the area where it was previously stored. THIRD DAY: (Late, 5 workers) Completed the waterproofing system install, installed 2 sump pumps and ran the piping to the predetermined location on the side of the house, cemented everything. Done.
