okay but not without some aggrevation They came on time and completed the work the same day. When we returned home from work, we found debres outside of the window where they had been passing drywall and other materials but failed to clean up some of the mess. The next day we saw that two large (approx 4feet by 6 feet) sections of our front lawn had been killed. We are not sure what they placed on the lawn, but it completely killed the grass. We called the sales rep, who referred us to a manager who requested pictures. Once they saw the pictures - proving that our complaint was legit - they sent a supervisor who was equipped to re-seed and clean up. The grass grew back quickly and everything was okay. In the end - the job seems to be good. No leaks during the hurricane so I guess all is well that ends well. The price was very good.

Professional and expedient. Met with Customer Support person the day after initial call (thorough presentation) and job was able to start in less than 1 week - took two days to finish. They took care to move and protect items in the basement. Lifetime "Dry Basement" guarantee. Obviously long term quality/reliability will become known in later years, but recent excessive rainfall via "Hurricane Irene" proved that the installation is working as it is supposed to.

They brought in a Powerpoint presentation to show myself and my wife how the procedure would be done and where the procedure would take place. I decided to go with the company due to the customer friendly contract that they presented. They do all the work themselves and do not contract any work out. Overall I was very impressed and at ease. I did not think that the price was going to be as high as it was but I realize that they are not cutting any corners with the job. I also enjoyed that if I do decide to sell this house the warranty does transfer over to the new owner. They guarantee that no water will fill into the basement in the future.
Description of Work: Came out to give an estimate to waterproof the basement. In order to do this they need to dig a trench around the perimeter of the basement. They will then install a drained tile system and a quality sump pump, which will create a drainage system to be lead outside of the house.

The salesman arrived to provide me with an estimate for remediating our damp/moldy basement. After measuring the basement and a detailed power point presentation on his laptop, I had a few questions which he answered. He asked if we had gotten any other estimates, and I said my husband had spoken to another company. He asked several times which company we spoke to, and since I didn't think it was relevant, I didn't answer. When I didn't immediately commit to his services, he said he had gotten a call from his boss while on his way to my house (a few minutes later that changed to "as I was pulling into your driveway") and there was a cancellation for next week; "If you take that time slot, we can get you in for less money." Frankly, that hardly inspired much confidence not only because it sounded so insincere and 'scripted' but also because if I had said yes on the spot, I clearly would have over paid. When I voiced that, he said that since they don't subcontract the work out, they have to pay the crew who was scheduled anyway, so they can afford to lower the price. At that point, since that made no sense, I thanked him for his time and said I would be in touch if we were interested. About a week later, I received a call from Thompson's office offering to send a 'manager' out to re-measure my basement and leave me with a lower estimate. I informed the young lady who called that I was not interested in doing business with a company that kept changing their prices depending on how many times I showed disinterest. I also asked her to take my name off her call list. While the gentleman who came to my home was a nice enough guy, the whole experience was obviously scripted and I found it to be unprofessional; I don't appreciate being pressured and, in effect, lied to. Update: After seeing my previous posting, I received a phone call from Thompson's expressing concern about my experience. The gentleman who called clearly cares about his company's reputation. While I appreciated the phone call, it does not change the reason for my having posted my concerns for the unprofessional manner in which the estimate was originally conducted. What it does change, however, is my opinion about the company in general. I'm impressed that they cared enough to try to find out what they did wrong and how they could "make it right". Since I've already committed to another company to do the necessary work, and since there's not much trust based on how I was initially treated, he knew that the company had lost the job. However, his apology was most sincere and went a long way to making me feel that this follow up statement should be included with my original report. He assured me that they would address how they go about obtaining business, without making the customer feel that they're being lied to.
Description of Work: No service was performed; the salesman provided me with a free estimate.

My wife states they came at about 7 a.m. I was on my home from work to meet with them. They began to tape off the area where they were going to be doing the work. They taped the carpet, steps, ceiling, and garage. I met with the foreman and he was already instructing his men. All six men worked their behinds off. Between the bucket brigade and the actual work of laying pipe and breaking up concrete, they didn't miss a beat. They took down only that was required to make a safe and healthy basement. They chipped up just enough concrete to ensure good system performance. I feel your company uses quality materials and expert installers. Once they were done with concreting the floor, clean up was nothing but top notch. The men were pulling up the tape and plastic with their shoes removed as to track any dirt on my carpet. They loaded the trailer and began to spray down my driveway of all the dust and small debris that accumulated throughout the day. I then completed the required paperwork with the foreman, shook hands and sent them on their way. I went inside to bask in the glory of my new basement and noticed that the truck had pulled forward about 30 feet and stopped. I was concerned maybe they left something, so I went outside. They didn't forget anything, they were sweeping, by hand, the driveway where the trailer was parked!!! I yelled and told them to get the "h***" out of here and go home!! He looked up at me and said, "Are you sure, Sir"? I said absolutely, get out of here. He just couldn't resist, looked down and completed two or three more sweeps before getting back in the truck. What an amazing crew and I am so excited that my basement is now complete. I am relieved that I don't have to worry about water.

They returned the call at 8:37 Monday morning. Unfortunately, I was already at a meeting and my wife was just leaving to take my daughter to camp. I was pleasantly surprised at the prompt response and contacted them back to arrange for a later call back.
Description of Work: I saw the high list of satisfied customer's on Angie's list and that Thompson's had a web contact that promised a return within 4 business hours. Since I had just finished cleaning up a flood in my basement due to sump pump failure I emailed at 3:45AM Sunday morning requesting a call back.

I called to get an estimate and recommendations for my basement, mostly to do some work patching and repairing the walls. Initially I thought my appointment window was between 6-8, I soon realized that I was getting more of a sales presentation that would actually LAST 2 hours. Having had this experience before with Power Windows and Siding, I knew what I was getting into. I felt that they were more interested in selling me things than listening to what I wanted to have done. He told me he could sell me a commercial grade dehumidifier for like $3300, and that while they sell them online for $1400, theirs comes with a 2 year warranty and "installation" (which I took to mean they carry it downstairs and plug it in, and run the hose somewhere to drain.). Seems to me I could buy it online for 1400, and if it breaks, buy an entire other unit, and still come out ahead. He told me the cost to cement the walls of my very small basement would be $13,000, to which I just laughed. He told me my existing sump pump was low quality, and they would replace it. He sat me down and showed me a video, wrote some estimates on the back of a business card, and when I said I'd let him know, he went into a whole schpeal about "Now, my manager might kill me, but we have some open slots next week that we need to fill..." and basically was trying to push me into scheduling the work right there on the spot. It didn't feel very genuine, but felt more like a last-ditch effort to get me to commit to something I clearly wasn't ready for. He was a nice enough guy and I don't want to get him into trouble, but I really feel that the company was only interested in selling, not taking a look at my unique situation and making reasonable recommendations. At least Right Way Waterproofing told me over the phone that if I didn't want a french drain installed, they weren't interested.

They came out twice and gave us no pressure estimates, unlike their competition. Once on site (they scheduled us very quickly and at our convenience), the crew stayed ALL day and well into the evening to get the job done. A few weeks later, my elderly dog got nervous during a thunderstorm and tore up some of the waterproofing material. Thompson's sent a service tech out the following weekend at no cost to me - even after I explained that the issue was caused by our pet. I was very happy with them and would recommend using them.
Description of Work: Thompson's put a drain and pump system into our basement. They also sealed a rear wall to prevent mold from coming in. The waterproofing and pump have worked great, with zero water getting into our house since the service.

We found one of the rooms in our finished basement practically covered in mold and some water on the floor. Of course we freaked out and called Thompson's after seeing how highly rated they were on Angie's List. At first they said they couldn't come out until the following week so we booked a date. They even said they could come after I got home from work between 6 and 8pm. Thats pretty awesome if you ask me. Then a day later Thompson's called me to see if they could come the following day because they had a cancelation. I agreed and the service person was supposed to be at the house between 6:30pm and 8pm. He actually got their a few minutes early which was awesome. His name was Jason and he was an absolute pleasure. He even got along great with out dogs even though they can be a little nuts. After thoroughly inspecting the basement he gave me a few options and tricks to keep the mold from coming back. He didn't just try to sell me on some service or product they offered. He told me what they could do but also told me about less costly options if I preferred. He also said that there was no real evidence of water leakage but gave me a list of things to look for incase it did happen. Dealing Jason (and Thompson's) was probably one of the best experiences with a service provider I have had since buying my home. You can bet I'll be calling them again if the need arises and I will absolutely recommend them to friends and family.

Greg Witters was the project coordinator that we worked with at the start of the project. He was very thorough taking the time to answer our questions and offering suggestions. His presentation was informative and unlike other companies that we had gotten estimates from, he did not engage in any high-pressure sales tactics. The price for the job was comparable to others we had received, however, this company had gotten very high reports from Angie's List and the addition of the dehumidifier into the cost of the service seemed to be a very good deal. Workman arrived on time to begin the job. The foreman was very knowledgable and did not mind answering questions nor our checking on the progress of the job. All workman were friendly, courteous, and hard-working. Work that was originally projected to take approximately tw days took a day and a half which was great. All debris from the installation was removed neatly from the site each night. I would highly recommend this company without reservation. Everything from start to finish was handled professionally and courteously.

They were here as promised and the young men was very polite and very professional. Their work wasn?t the best job that I had seen. The concrete was very thin and not level. What they did will do the job but as far the appearance goes I don?t think it helped the value of the house at all. They were second most expensive on the quotes I got and they were the highest ratings on Angie?s list but they didn?t do the best job. The crew seemed to cut a couple of corners. There were couple of mistakes and I thought could correct them but it was too late. I wouldn?t call that it professional job. They were expensive when compared to seven different people who gave the quote but I expected the quality of work for what I paid. REVISED Thompson sent in a different crew and they agreed that the job was not satisfactor. They re-did the areas in question to the level it should have been originally. Thompson"s is obviously concerned about thier quality and customer satisfaction. As a result of the prompt response from Thompsons, I have changed their level to A plus.

I bought my home in November 2010 and noticed during my home inspection that water was trickling in through the corners of the basement. I pointed this out to my home insector, who told me I only need to "grade the outside soil around the house" to resolve this issue-about "$40.00 worth of soil to fix". I figured I could do that and in April, I graded all the soil around my home--which totally made no difference to the water issue I was having in my basement--$6,000 lesson learned (check Angies list before purchasing services!!) So in May 2011, I interviewed 5 basement waterproofing companies and the prices varied from $5,800 to $11,500. I chose to go with Thompsons for several reasons. First, Brett, the sales person who came to my home, offered me the most for my money. On top of what the other companies offered to me, Thompsons went above and beyond with 1.) a " lateral" that goes through the middle of my basement, 2.) Two sump pumps where some companies offered one 3.) Window drains, because I have 2 windows below the ground level and 4.) to seal holes where Brett could see water was coming in the basement from my air conditioning unit. Secondly, I liked the use of the PVC pipe with the sleeve over the black drain hose that the other companies were showing to me. Third, although they only offer the manufacturers warranty on the pumps, I trust that they will continue to to be in business to honor the transferrable and lifetime warranty if I need it and lastly, they are one of two top picks on Angies list. On day 1, the crew showed up on time and I went over the job with the foreman. He had been with the company for 4 years and knew his business well. The entire crew had only good things to say about Thompsons, and the product they had offer. The next day's crew were just as professional. I have since had two huge storms and the system worked perfectly--no water in the basement! I am confident with my decision to go with Thompsons.
Description of Work: Basically, Thompson's Dug a trench around the perimeter of my basement. Drilled "weep holes" in the foundation blocks to allow water to empty into the trench. Layed rock and a PVC "tube" with holes in it in the trench to catch water and carry it two sump pumps that will push the water outside. Lay mira drain product over trench to catch the water and push it inot the trench.

The job foreman and one other crewmember showed up on the first day of the two day project. My wife and I were told by the project coordinator that the crew would be at the house by 0730, but they did not show until 0800. It was a small error because their paperwork, (which they showd me) stated 0800. They went down into the basement and immediately started hanging up plastic and protective devices due to having to use a jackhammer in the basement. The foreman said that half of his crew did not show up for work that day so I thought that the job was not going to get done as planned and that there was going to be problems. It was the exact opposite. The foreman and the other crewmember worked straight through the day stopping only for water and to take the broken concrete to their truck. The two of them got the entire trench dug out around the wall by the end of the first day. Two other Thompson's employees showed up later on in the day to assist in getting the rest of the broken concrete out of the basement. They left around 1530 (3:30pm). The foreman requested to be able to come at 0700 the next day. I told him that it would be fine. The next day, the full crew showed up and started getting the PVC piping into the trench and getting the stone and everything in. The entire crew hauled the crushed stone and concrete down into my basement in five gallon buckets. They completed the job by 1630 (4:30pm). The job foreman explained about the pumps, and about the drainage system and also treated the basement for mold. The foreman let me walk thrugh the entire area to mak sure that I was happy with the job before his crew left. His entire five man crew was very courteous and professional with my family and respected my house as if it was their own. I would use them again for similiar jobs and/or recommend them to other people.
Description of Work: 150 linear feet of PVC drainage pipe laid around the foundation of my house. Two sump pump wells were dug and installed. Reconcreted the floor and put in black PVC ribbed drainage channel along the base of the wall and also underneath to allow for moisture to drain into drainage system. Patched hole in wall that previous homeowner put into walls so they could hang a mantle over the wood stove that was there.

UPDATE- Thompson's Waterproofing has now contacted me several times. They have been very apologetic and willing to do whatever is necessary to remedy this negative experience. At this point we have come to an agreement on how to best resolve those issues. It is very obvious that they do care about their reputation, and that my initial experience was caused by an employee that is no longer employed there. I threw them out of my house while going through the estimate process as they went into a hard pressure sale thing. They said that I had to sign up on that day and refused to leave me with a written estimate or put into writing about what they were going to do. I did not like people like that. It was as if someone was trying to sell me a 67 Chevy or something. The shame was that they did well up until then. They appeared knowledgeable but when we sat down they first started to hit me with a very high price. I told them that they were not going to get it and that I appreciated they coming out. He then said that he would call his boss and then the price immediately dropped by a third which told me that they were playing games. I told him that I was not going to make a decision on the spot and I would get four estimates. I would look at all the four estimates, what they were going to do and then decide as to what the best deal would be. It need not be the cheapest deal but the best deal. He then told me that I had to make a decision on that day to get that price. I told him that I would not be doing that and asked him to leave me an estimate. He said that he would not be able to do that. I then told him that if he was not going to leave me an estimate or a written proposal of what they were going to do, then he could leave. Their original estimate was for $12000 and then immediately dropped to $9000. They were willing to drop the price again but at that point there was no trust. They were very bad. I was positive that the consumer protection law required the service providers to leave a written estimate. I got four estimates of which one service provider was okay but I thought that he wasn't up to the size of the job. There were four service providers and everyone except for Thompson's Basement Waterproofing gave me a written estimate. They gave me the names of the kind of pumps and plates they were going to use. They also gave me options and how much it would cost. Thompson's Basement Waterproofing would not do any of that. They would call me if they were going to be late. I used another service provider who estimated $6700 and did everything they said that they were going to do. It was an enjoyable experience dealing with them.

Workers arrived on time and completed the job in about 9 hours. They were very courteous and professional, and took time to answer all my questions and to explain exactly what they were going to do. They did an excellent job of cleaning up after the job. In the past, we only got water in the basement a couple times a year, so it just didn't seem worth the money to have waterproofing done, but this spring, after 3 floods in 1 month, we decided it was time. The day after we had the system installed, we had a huge rain storm that flooded many of our neighbors basements, but we didn't get a drop of water. Needless to say, we were thrilled!!! We're going to wait until we've had a couple more rain storms (just to be sure), but after that, we'll definitely be turning the basement into additional living space.

I t went very well overall. They arrived promptly at around 9:30 am and finished around 6:30 pm or so. There were five guys and they wroked exceedingly hard during this time. They put tarp and plastic down on the floors and a sheet to separate the work area from the rest of the area of the finished basement.
Description of Work: Half of my basement's circumference was dug up and new french drains and a new sump pump were installed. Most of my basement was already finished and they installed the product in the area that was unfortunately already finished. They were sensitive to the carpeting and devised a very good and economic solution to the wood panelling that was already installed - remove cleanly only 3 feet down worth of panneling and reinstall same when completed with a chair guard rail over the area to hide the staright cut across the walls. I coordinated with a different contractor to reinstall the panelling - which most was able to be saved - with this new idea of a new chair rail. I appreciated that idea that they provided and that they completed the job within one day. I was getting a lot of water in an area that I had not had water before and was tiring of running downstairs to replace the towels that I was using to absorb the water every 6-12 hours. I contacted only 3 different companies - one never got back to me and the second was this company. I never spoke to the third company. Not having had the chance to shop price around - I took a "gamble" in accepting their price, which was dramatically reduced from their original price of $4,500, when they advised that they had a cancellation (opening) only days later. They explained that they have crews (their own employees and not sub-contractors) and it costs money to keeo them idol so we were each essentially helping each other out in this regard. This made sense to me but who knows - could also be an unscrupulous sales ploy to convince a homeowner to go with them instead of the other 100 complanies that seem to exist for this niche. However, the proof is evident in that I have had a bone dry basement since the work was performed and it has rained quite a bit since the install. Also, they were very hard working crew of guys, responsive and tried to be as clean as they could in this finished basement area. I would recommend them. I "think" I got a good price too ...

The job went fine. They had to come back a couple of times because they didn?t do it right the first time. They come back without any problem and they do a neat work. The people who came were fine. Their price was fair.

We were having water in our basement. They were able to take care of this issue. They are going to come back to look at our flooring to see what we need to do with it.
Description of Work: They dug out part of our basement and put in a new pipe and subpump.

To start with we've had problems with water in the basement since we owned this house. We bought it new in 1999. When we get really heavy rain, about two or three times a year, water would seep into the basement from the cove, where the concrete floor meets the hollow cinderblock walls. After a few times we traced it all back to the northeast corner behind the well pump pressure tank and the hot water heater. It would seep through in just about ten feet of the cove but then run along the wall until it found some low spots. Then it would run across the basement floor in different spots, all the way across to the other side of the basement. The last time we had heavy rains in the middle of March I was using the shop-vac to clean up the water and had to turn it off to empty the tank. The first time it was quiet in the basement I heard a gurgling noise. It sounded like the pressure tank but as I got closer it was obviously coming from inside the wall. I found a way to look back behind the pressure tank, which we'd never done because you need to be part pretzel, and could see why I heard water. The pipe coming in from the well pump through the block basement wall had never been sealed!!! I could hear the water rushing in the other side by now, like pouring water in a bucket. It was cascading down the hollow blocks and filling them, to slowly drain through the blocks and foundation into the basement. My first thought was the foundation would have to be excavated from outside to seal the hole. We called our insurance company and as we've been learning, insurance companies don't pay for water in the basement unless it's a flood. So I checked Angie's List and found Thompson's. The salesman showed up early and after showing him the problem area and what I'd found, he provided a quite detailed explanation of his recommendation, which was not to excavate but alleviate the water problem from inside the basement. He had no idea I had a little background in construction years ago so I paid close attention to everything he said and showed me on his laptop. It was a presentation of the causes of water seepage in basements and included photos of a drain pipe and sump installation by one of his teams. He also had in his bag small samples of each of the products to be used, such as the drain pipe, drains, etc. For someone who's never seen this it could be impressive. Every step he said would be taken is exactly what should be done to do it right and the better materials were to be used. I'd read about the same kind of sales pitch before but work was subbed out so I was still skeptical. What helped seal the deal was the contract. No fine print, anywhere. The work is done by their employees, not subs, and has a lifetime guarantee, and that's transferable to the new owners if we sell the house. The crew was early and just as the salesman told us, the truck had the company name on it and the two workers both had the company name somewhere on their clothes. That was reassuring, no subs. We spoke briefly about the work and let them get started. They hung plastic to isolate the dust from the jackhammer and every so often we'd check on their progress. They didn't mind us taking photos of the work at all and we did each time we checked in on them. The better materials the salesman pitched were in fact used. I know the difference and specifically looked for it. The sump pump was tested and for those who want to know, it's a standard 120v plug, fits any standard grounded receptacle. Both of the crew were friendly and professional, working through lunch. They did a good job, and did it right. The finished product seems to be working already, since the work was done we've had more rain that would have seeped into the basement and it's completely dry. Something else to mention is the sump pump housing design. Unlike some that have lids where the discharge comes right out of the lid, this one only has the electrical supply cord coming through the edge, and it's screwed down (harder for kids to play with and get open.) The discharge is run through the side of the housing and to the corner basement wall, up alongside the wall, and then outside through the last course of block. When they poured the concrete the only thing you see is the cover and cord. The discharge pipe isn't visible until it comes up from the floor at the wall. Much cleaner than the other style that would require another pipe above the floor for about 12 feet. . I would not hesitate to call them again for any of the services they offer. They did well on this job and it's hard to find honest businesses like this. A good job done right at a fair price earns respect and repeat customers.
Description of Work: Install drain and sump pump for water leaking into basement. Jackhammer existing concrete floor along northeast corner basement wall to lay crushed stone bed for drain and sump housing. Install floor drains at basement door entrance and around existing hot water heater. Install & test new sump pump, run discharge outside basement. Pour new concrete over repaired area..

When I arrived at my house at 3 PM, the rep was already at my door. We went into the house, sat down, I explained my situation and after doing a little paperwork and talking a bit about the company, we went downstairs to have a look. After assessing and measuring, we went back up stairs and watched a video of how the work would be performed and he explained exactly what they could do. The original price quoted was higher than I expected, but after some talking and negotiating, that price dropped down quite a bit. I was a little turned off by this - the price negotiation always leaves a bad taste in your mouth. That said, we did arrive at a fair price and they agreed to perform the work on Friday, which is HUGE as I am going out of town and really wanted this job completed prior to that. I am very optimistic that this job is going to go well and will submit a full report upon completion. Overall - I was very happy with the initial consultation.
Description of Work: A rep from Thompson came out to my house yesterday to look at the situation in my basement and give me an estimate. The work is to be performed on Friday, April 1st. I will submit a full report once the job is complete.
