Description of Work: First he thoroughly cleaned our central heating/AC unit by spraying it inside and out using our hose and a cleansing solution. Then he came in the house to check the filter and vents, showing us how to keep the unit functioning at its best. The service man wasn't able to make it for the date we'd first scheduled because it started raining hard while he was working on the call ahead of ours, and he'd gotten soaked. For the second date we'd scheduled, I called the service man when it got to be later than the time frame we'd been given. He was just about ready to leave his previous appointment when I reached him and told me he'd be to our house in about 1/2 an hour. About 45 minutes later he arrived. He told me that the previous customer ended up asking him to do more than he'd originally been scheduled to do.

We make every effort to contact our customers on the way to an appointment to confirm that someone will be home in the timeframe in which the appointment was scheduled. Our technician called the customer at 9:30 am and a left a message that he was on his way. When he arrived at the customer's home at 10:30 the door was answered. For this reason, we need to confirm with our customers in person, via phone, on the way to each appointment. We regret that we were unable to connect with this customer for this particular appointment and anticipate a refund being issued by Angie's List.

Description of Work: We bought the deal for an air conditioning check up. Mike took a look and realized that the previous owners (we moved in in December) had let the unit run completely out of refrigerant. He thoroughly explained our options of either presurizing the system and evaporating the moisture that had infiltrated and finding all the leaks, which could take any amount of time, or to get a new system. He talked about the options for new systems, measured our furnace to see what kind would fit, but didn't pressure us into getting a new system straight away. We opted to have them come and remove the old outdoor unit and wait til next spring to possibly get a new system. He even credited our checkup so that we could use it for our furnace in the fall! On to of it all, he gave us a recommendation for someone to put a new liner in our chimney. We knew it needed one, but he explained why. That's not even part of his business.I was thoroughly impressed. When his employees came to take out the old unit, they were in and out in a half hour and were very polite.

Description of Work: I had trouble bleeding our gas heat radiators. I called Michael and described the problem. He came out and stated that the water pressure in the system was too low. When he raised the pressure, he asked me to check the radiators. When I went to my bedroom, i noticed that there was water coming from the floor under the radiator. When I ran downstairs, I realized that water was raining down from under the radiator to the lower levels. Michael turned down the pressure and told me how unfortunate it was that we have a broken pipe. He then told me that I should call a plumber to fix the radiator pipe. Interestingly, he NEVER took the time to look at the radiator to see what needed repair. Similarly, when I asked about replacing our gas fireplace insert, he told me to call a chimney repair service. Though he did not provide any service, he conveniently advised that I should call him to service our furnace annually or bi-annually. NOT A CHANCE!

When I arrived to check out the boiler, it had only about 10 lbs. of pressure. I asked the customer to make sure the bleeders were closed before adding pressure. When I increased the pressure to just 15 lbs., the pipe burst and caused a flood. In all my years of service, this is only the second time this has ever happened. The pipe broke under the shut-off valve between the floor and the ceiling below. In order to access this pipe, either the floor or the ceiling would have to be opened up. I was extremely sorry that this happened, but cannot take responsibility for old systems or existing piping. Regular maintenance is very important to ensure ongoing safety & efficiency of this equipment. Boilers and furnaces should be routinely inspected in the Fall before turning on the system. In regard to gas fireplace inserts, we informed the homeowner that we do not install or service gas logs, but we can refer customers to reputable vendors who handle such issues.

Description of Work: Owner Michael Toran promptly returned my call re my non-firing oil burner on a Friday evening. He was the only one of four I had contacted who did so. Even though he worked with only gas or electric systems, he spent a good 20 minutes on the phone with me doing some research and offering me much advice which was of immeasurable help. He also was willing to come by to replace the relay that appeared to be the problem for an incredibly reasonable price. As it turned out, with the information he had given me and the resources he supplied, I was able to do the job myself. Mike's a great guy, very knowledgeable, and has a wonderful attitude. Based on our conversation, the help he gave me, and the price he quoted, I'd have no hesitation in using him on a regular basis if my system was gas or electric.

It is very important to have your heating system checked throughly by a professional whether it is oil, gas, or propane. Some of the areas of concern are: chimney or vent system is working properly and is not blocked; Burner, pilot, and flame rectification safety components are cleaned and tested; Heat exchanger is free and clear of rust or carbon that could cause flame roll-out and carbon monoxide issues; Filters, strainers, and media panels cleaned or replaced as well as certain parts lubricated and belts inspected. We recommend carbon monoxide and smoke detectors on every level of your home, and if you have batteries in your thermostat or detectors, replace them yearly!

Description of Work: I called in need of a repair, I thought I had called on this company in the past. When the woman answered the phone, I indicated that I might have been a customer in the past. She would not answer my question, gave me the phone number of the local utility company and told me to call them. She was rude, unprofessional, and impatient.
