Mr Contractor Inc. did the work quickly which was good. Anything we had an issue with they were responsive and tried to fix it to ensure we were happy with it. As for the tub it's too bad that we notice the bad tiling job well after the tiles were set. They did however fixed the worst tiles and tried to make it better, but at the end of the day it's still a below average tiling job. We had hired Mr Contractor Inc. based on some awesome work we saw at a friend's place. I am not so sure we got 100% of the quality we saw, maybe we got 85% of that. If you do decide to hire Mr Contractor Inc. insist on the following: 1) A typed contract, not a hand written one. The hand writing is hard to read and later becomes and issue when you are trying to read it. Insist on it being typed. 2) A walk through with Mr Contractor Inc. If Kenny isn't available ask for one of his staff to go through it with you or one of the other family owners. Although they fixed the foyer transition strip and the shower road after all the payments were made, the walk through will save you some hassle later. 3) If you were promised a curved rod in the shower, then make sure you get one :-) Once we got our straight cheapo shower rod, we didn't care, we just wanted to be done dealing with this work and move on. 4) No respect for existing fixtures. Insist that his workers treat your other existing fixtures with some respect. Grant it our carpet was old and at some point we will replace it, but for now, we just wanted to have it steamed cleaned and move on. However in the bedroom there was a large stain that was not there before. I mentioned the paint sprinkles on the pass-through shelf. But we also noticed some kind of putty/glue/thinset whatever??some kind of material on our older, but really nice countertop in the bathroom. So if you hire them just make sure you insist on your current fixtures being intact and treated with some respect. 5) We unfortunately could not be there to see the day to day progress, but after some miscommunication and some hunches that the work should be checked on, I started sending my Dad to look at the work on a daily basis. So make sure you check the work daily and ensure that Mr Contractor. Inc. is supervising their employees. I think the shower tiling would have turned out a lot better if he had been checking in his guys. Sure it would've cost more to "re-frame" the shower, but if it meant a really nice tiling job, we would've agreed to doing the additional work.
Description of Work: Updated to D, every time I see the crappy tile job they did in my condo it upsets me. I was told even Steven Starr's expensive restaurant bathroom tiles aren't perfect :-). Yeah right. We hired Mr Contractor Inc. to do some work in the condo and would give them a C+. Some things went well, others did not go so well. Kitchen: What went well: - New countertop - nice work, looks great. - New sink, faucet, garbage disposer - good job on this. - Dura ceramic kitchen floor - looks really good - Good paintwork. What did not go well: - I had asked for small high hats, they installed medium sized high hats, I didn't make an issue of it. I guess they went with medium high hats because they were easier to install. A little bit of corner cutting. - A little sloppy with the pass through when painting the kitchen. They did not cover the wood shelf on the pass through when painting and there are tiny drops of paint all over it. I will cover this again under a different section in this review. Foyer: What went well: - Dura ceramic floor tile - looks great. - New closet doors - they look nice, BUT we were told they install "solid wood" doors, but we got the typical hollow doors :-) So if you are promised, solid closet doors, make sure you get them. Check on their work daily if you can. - Base board - looks nice. - Paint job - great work What didn't go well: - Strip between dura ceramic floor tile and carpet transition - they installed a strip initially that was simply unacceptable. Barry was good about it, Kenny "didn't know what our expectations" were. Our expectations were that a nice strip would be installed that lay flat and not vertical like it was initially installed. Good thing is that they fixed it and were responsive about it. Bathroom: What went well: - Dura ceramic floor tile - looks great. - New light in shower area - nice addition. - Shower faucet - nice. - Paint job - great work What didn't go well: - I had asked for small high hats, they installed medium sized high hats, I didn't make an issue of it. I guess they went with medium high hats because they were easier to install. A little bit of corner cutting. - Shower tile work - A below average job was done here and Mr Contractor also agreed that he was not happy with how it turned out also. He said he would have given me $1000 bucks, if I could show him 10 condos in the building with perfect tiling. I should have taken him up on it but didn't have the time. I have been to a lot of units in our building and they've got some really great tile work. Apparently, the studs behind our old insert tub were only two feet apart and when his workers put in the sheet rock, they really should have re-framed the tub area (per Kenny), but his guy went ahead and did the work without checking with Kenny, as a result we have a below average tiling job in the shower. But at the end of the day Kenny should be supervising his team and checking on their work. This wasn't happening in my opinion. I will cover this later. - During the contract signing process, Kenny told us he would install a curved shower rod. The work was completed with NO shower rod. They did however glue a straight cheapo shower rod in after we said it was missing. We didn't get a curved shower rod. I think it's written in the contract, but it's not very clear because it's a written and not typed contract. Again typed because even they can't read the handwriting sometimes.

Response from Mr. Contractor Inc
We always hope to leave a customer totally satisfied and returning for future work. We understand that a solid reputation is key to success. Every so often we come across customers that reminds us why we need to work even harder to make a good impression. Miscommunication, budgetary concerns, and varied expectations can derail the path to complete satisfaction. We don’t agree with everything being stated by the member, and we could go about explaining in detail our reasoning. But it is clear we need to work harder in making sure our customers are happy. Fortunately, we were scored an A, A, B for Responsiveness, Punctuality and Professionalism respectively. By matter of grade distribution (the calculated average), the “overall” reaction by the member should be a “B”. But we want to do better than a “B” and focus on the areas of Quality and Price singled out. Over the years Mr. Contractor has been presented with many awards and letters of high praise. Just last month it was announced in Philadelphia Magazine that Mr. Contractor won “Best of Philly 2012” for a second time. Also, Mr. Contractor has earned Angie’s List Honor Roll status three times this year. Clearly these are indications on just how concerned we are with our business conduct, which our customers realize. We thank the member for his candid remarks and detailed explanation. We would like to extend an offer, at no charge, to supply and install a “curved shower rod” versus the spring loaded straight rod installed. This was a concern mentioned numerous times in the report and of obvious importance. Please free to call our office at 215-423-5525 to arrange an appointment with our receptionist.

Working with Ken Spector of Mr. Contractor has been one of the worst experiences I have had as a homeowner. He cut corners on the work he performed, has repeatedly refused to honor the warranty and behaved unprofessionally by yelling at my boyfriend and I more than once. Examples of the many ways he cut corners are: patching holes in the metal exterior of the house with duct tape instead of caulk and tin patches, failing to caulk the outside of the windows he installed, building a faulty bilco door that fell apart in less than three years. On three separate occasions over the past three years he has not stood behind the warranty, causing me to pay other contractors to repair work I already paid him to do. And he lost his temper with my boyfriend, cursing at him because we would not pay additional money for the paint job we agreed to in the contract. The second time he refused to honor the warranty, I suggested that we get a moderator to help us come to an agreement. He got angry and screamed at me on the phone and threatened me saying that I was ?creating bad blood for the future?. During the bidding process I told Ken I was going to go with a different contractor more in my price range. He convinced me to work with him by lowering his price and telling me the following: 1) He would give me a five year warranty on all work (15 for the roof), 2) He had a full staff and didn?t use subcontractors and 3) There would be no surprise costs above the estimate. All of these three promises turned out to be false. Below are more details of some of the most egregious situations. Unauthorized Work on Heater: The second day of the job Ken told me that the radiator heat was not working and he would have his plumber come take a look to see what was wrong. I was at work and he said he would call and let me know what the problem was. He called while I was in a meeting. When I called him back he told me the plumber drained and refilled the system and made some adjustments to the heater. He told me I needed to pay him $420 in cash by the end of the week. I told him that I was angry that he had done work I did not authorize and asked if it would be covered under the five-year warranty. He said it was and would give me paperwork on their company stationary with the warranty info. A few months later, the heater was having the same problem and I called Ken to come address it. He told me that since a subcontractor performed the work they would not honor the warranty. They gave me a phone number for the supposed plumber, but the number was disconnected. I paid a different plumber out of pocket to fix it. Losing Temper: We agreed to have the exterior bay windows and decorative metalwork of my house painted using two colors. I created a photo diagram that showed where each of the colors should go, and agreed with Ken that my boyfriend would meet the painters and give it to them. The painters showed up early and started painting without direction, so they bought the wrong amounts of paint and applied the wrong colors to large parts of the house. Ken told my boyfriend that they would now need to stay an extra half-day and I needed to pay $600 more. When my boyfriend told Ken that I said I would not pay because we agreed on the price in the contract he began to scream at my boyfriend saying that ?only f***ing Picasso could paint what we requested?. From that point on, I was scared to meet with him alone in my home, so I had friends or family members come to my house when he was there. Gas Leak: I also hired Ken to relocate a gas washer and dryer unit from a bathroom to a nearby closet. They tapped into an existing gas line to add a new flex gas line for the dryer. The first problem was that they did not vent the dryer to the outside as it was specified in the lease. When I pointed that out, Ken told me it didn?t need to be vented. I told him that I read that it was code according to the fire department and gas company websites. He then vented it outside. A couple months after the work was completed and the unit was rented out, the tenants noticed a gas leak. The gas company came out and pinpointed the leak to underneath the floor. I asked Ken to come address it since he had just worked on that line. After his plumber came out, cut one of my gas lines and ripped the ceiling open, Ken said that the problem was not their fault. He said I owed them $350 at that point (because the plumber was a subcontractor and needed to be paid for the determination) and I would have to pay them to fix the leak (along with repairing the cut line and ceiling hole). After disagreeing with him on that, I had two other plumbers give me estimates. They both agreed with the gas company technician that the leak was the result of the recent work. I had to pay a plumber out of pocket, and reimburse my tenants for the days they spent without hot water and gas and for the previous month and a half that the gas bill had been too high because it was leaking. Losing Temper Part Two: After the gas leak incident I was concerned that on two occasions Ken had refused to honor the warranty on the basis of saying that subcontracted work was not covered and making arbitrary and subjective determinations about what was and was not covered. Through e-mail and phone conversations, I requested that he give me more details and specifications about the warranty so that we could move forward on the same page. He refused repeatedly. Finally, I spoke with him on the phone and told him that I though we should seek out a third party to help us reach an agreement. He became enraged and started screaming at me. He called me names and, as mentioned above, said that I was ?creating bad blood for the future?. I?m not sure what that threat meant, but from that point forward I felt scared to interact with him. Duct Tape Repair: In order to prevent water leaks that had created damage to the interior of bay windows on two floors and to the third floor ceiling I hired Ken to replace the roof, replace the windows, patch holes in the exterior metal and woodwork and repair plaster. The water damage reappeared and grew worse, and I contacted Ken?s brother Barry (and co-owner) via mail to request that Mr. Contractor address it under the warranty. I let Barry know that I was uncomfortable having Ken in my home after his aggressive behavior and asked them to send any other foremen, manager, owner or any other representative to come look at the issue. Ken wrote back with a list of questions about the damage, and insisted that he needed to be present. After going back and forth on that, his office manager sent a letter stating that I do not have a five-year warranty and that they are ceasing further communication with me. The three contractors I brought in to give me estimates determined that the reasons for the water damage are that the holes in the metalwork were just covered over with duct tape and paint instead of being patched with caulk and tin, that the windows were installed incorrectly and were not caulked on the exterior and that there were loose seams on the roof. I will now have to hire another contractor to address the problems that have been caused by Ken?s negligent work and will be paying thousands more out of pocket for work that should be covered under warranty. Unfortunately, there were also other issues, but the ones above were the most egregious. I would warn anyone considering working with Mr. Contractor to choose someone else.
Description of Work: New roof, new windows throughout house, exterior painting, interior plaster repair, hardwood floor refinishing, relocate washer/dryer, install new sink and toilet, reconfigure a closet, demo another closet, enclose an open room to create a new bedroom, minor electrical work, crown molding, secure basement joists, other small improvements

Response from Mr. Contractor Inc
For 63 years we have serviced more than 55,000 clients in the Philadelphia and Bucks County areas while earning a solid reputation. We are a proud 4th generation family owned and operated business that is continually expanding. A solid reputation is key to success. We realize our success would not be possible if not for our happy and returning customers. We stand by our work 100%. We make every attempt to make sure you are completely satisfied. Mr. Contractor only employs a staff of expert craftsmen. Our craftsmen are a select and loyal group with decades of experience in their trades. Our sales staff assists our clients to achieve their remodeling dreams. We do everything from kitchen remodeling, creating bathrooms, installing windows & doors, building custom decks; pretty much no job is too big or too small. As a result, we have been consistently named "Top 500 Remodelers in the Country". While maintaining an A rating at the Better Business Bureau, we have also been awarded "Best of Philly '07" and "Angie's List Super Service Award '09 & Honor Roll '12". We believe success is not just based on strong sales but also community involvement. We have been featured on the Rachael Ray Show for creating a community garden in Philadelphia (corner of Wharton Street and East Passyunk Avenue at 9th Street). We won’t lie, not all of our jobs are without its share of bumps (although very rare). We have received unflattering reviews by customers for various reasons. This is all par for the course due to our volume and business trade. But never have we received such a fabricated review from a customer hell-bent on hurting our reputation. We are willing to admit when we do something wrong. This is not the case here. Mr. Contractor was hired by the member to do various projects at her home on December 12, 2008. It is never our intention to make a customer unhappy. However, our relationship with the member soured as a result of her unrealistic warranty expectations and constant reliance to assess blame on us for anything and everything concerning her home. We realize that it is not possible to please everyone all the time. We have really tried to accommodate the member, at times even doing unrelated repairs for free. We have even currently offered our assistance in addressing her issues and determining the cause of her new concerns. Unfortunately her intentions have been focused on financial compensation while using various negative online forums (reviews) as leverage to inflict punishment. Simply stated, Mr. Contractor 1) does not cut corners, 2) only offers 1-year warranties (as printed on our website and on our contracts), 3) does not engage in unprofessional behavior such as raising our voice or insulting our customers, and 4) does not perform “spotty” work. Any negative review saying the contrary simply doesn’t match our well-documented local and online reputation. We are selective in the jobs we contract and will not take on a client unless we know we can do the job correctly with the necessary preparations and repairs. All of our work is done to building code. We are fully licensed and insured. Afterwards, we often go above and beyond to address our customers concerns – regardless of the time lapse of their warranty. The member’s allegations are insulting while at the same time not believable. The member makes a career in story telling (she is a communication professional) and clearly she has tried to use these skills here. There are too many inconsistencies with the member's fictional narrative and gross exaggeration of facts (and dates) to address. We refuse to drag this out publicly while going tit-for-tat on points of clarification. The member is simply a person that can never be pleased. Her fanciful tail clearly paints a picture of a company that is not us. If in fact her claims of workmanship and treatment were true, than as a company we would have plenty of negative reviews, a bad reputation with BBB/NARI/D&B/Angie’s/etc., would not continually receive awards, and we would not have reached a 4th generation of family ownership. On the contrary, we have hundreds of letters from customers raving about our work and their happiness in hiring us. We have over 50 reviews online at various websites and have posted some on our own website. We are very confident about our abilities and know that our business success is testimony enough. This is a tough market crowded with other contractors and an economy that leaves clients consciousness in their spending and hiring decisions. Time after time we are chosen to perform work at their homes and the end result is always positive. We wish the member the best and hope her future relationships with contractors have a smoother transaction. Please take the time to check out our website at www.mrcontractor.com for the list of our services, over 1200 pictures (and videos) of our work, customer testimonials, and so forth. If using a mobile phone then check out our tailored website at www.mrcontractor.mobi for a different experience. And as always, call us at 215-423-5525 to schedule an appointment for a free estimate.

I had a few contractors come out to give an estimate and to be honest Mr. Contractor was the highest I had gotten. I ended up choosing him anyway because he seemed to understand what I was looking for, and had some design ideas to offer. The other two contractors didn't have much input in terms of design. He also had photos of his deck work on an iPad for me to see. They ended up coming to perform the work during the week of 5/28/12. When they left I looked at the work and saw that the bench they installed was much too small. We had originally agreed on a 2 ft x 2 ft x 20 ft bench with raised side tables. This bench was also supposed to have removable panels. They had installed a 18in x 18in x 20 ft bench with raised side tables, and the removable panels were just single boards not screwed in on top. I voiced my concerns and they were VERY responsive and offered to come back out the next day to discuss some options on how they can fix it so that I'm happy. He apologized and said that he misinterpreted the baseline requirements and offered some options on what he could do to fix it. A few days later they were back to re-sized the bench and made some nice removable panels that won't end up warping. They also did some additional touch-ups and made the bench/storage look great.Overall I'm very happy with Mr. Contractor and their responsiveness to concern and desire to make things right. I would definitely use them again in the future.
Description of Work: We had an unfinished flower box on our deck removed and re-designed/installed into a sitting bench/storage area. The old box was very large and a complete eye-sore on our deck.

Whole project turned out to be a waste of money that I could not afford to lose. During the initial appointment on May 27, the contractor suggested that I switch floors or have the second floor bedroom carpeted. When I explained to him why those two options would not work, then he told me two options for soundproofing and told me which of the two were my best options. So, I went with the one he suggested. He did tell me that it would not reduce the sound by 100%. However, when I asked him, he did say that I should have at least a 50% to 75% reduction in the noise level coming from the second floor. The work was started on June 3. I came home and it was immediately obvious to me that there was no change. I thought maybe that they had not finished. On June 4, when the work was complete, the only change was that there were no creaking sounds coming from the second floor. I told Lonnie about my concerns when I gave him the final payment when he came to my home. I tried to demonstrate to him that there was no change in the level of noise. He did not believe me. He even though he claimed that he was not saying that I was crazy or anything, that is the way he treated me. He told me about the materials used and even sent me the information. He told me about how satisfied another customer was with his soundproofing. Lonnie suggested that I give it more time that maybe I was anticipating the noise. I told him two or three times during our conversation, that I was only paying him so that he would not sue me. After taking his suggestion and giving it more time, the noise level had not changed. My calls and letter fell on deaf ears when I tried to seek some reasonable solution with this company. In April of this year, when the creaking that this company was supposed to have fixed started again, I filed a complaint against them seeking a refund, because I felt that this company failed to live up to their end of their agreement with me. Of course the reviewer sided with the company and felt that their offer of 25% off on my next project was sufficient compensation for my botched soundproofing job. Bottomline - I do not have 0% soundproofing the level of noise is the same today as is was on May 27, 2011 when I met with the contractor. The creaking they were supposed have stopped returned in less than a year. They put my ceiling fan back up, which shakes more than when the original owner's first put it up. The bathroom tile work does not look very professional. In their responses to the complaint, they sounded as if they were implying as if I forced them or strongly insisted that they to do the soundproofing job which is not true. If Lonnie had given me a reason why I should not have the work done like he did when he told me why I should not have storm windows installed in my living room or why my livingroom or bedroom windows should not be uncovered, then I would not have done the soundproofing. I feel like not only have they taken my money, but that as a repeat customer, my trust was violated! For these reasons I will not call or recommend this contractor again.
Description of Work: I hired this company to soundproof bedroom ceiling. Lonnie said that that they would also "sister floor joist" to take out squeaking of second floor. Also had bathroom ceiling tiled.

Response from Mr. Contractor Inc
We were contacted by the member regarding the noise level in her home. I met with the member and reviewed with her the issues she was claiming. The member Lives in a residential house. She lives on the first floor and her sister and husband live on the second floor. Her concerns were that she was hearing too much noise for her comfort level. I explained to the member that she lives in a house not an apartment building. The home was not originally built to be a separated space from the second floor. Apartment buildings have concrete floors which help with the noise level from other apartments. I explained to the member that she lives in a residential home not an apartment building. I told her that we do sound proofing but can in no way guarantee 100% sound proofing of her home because it was not built with that intention. The member confirms this in her complaint to you. I explained we would however be able to reduce the noise level removing her ceiling, tightened up the ceiling to the second floor and by doing this the squeaking will be significantly reduced, but again it will not be 100 %. We also talked about many other options available to her, but she wanted the ceiling done to see if it would help with her issues. She agreed and we signed a contract with her on May 27th 2011. We then insulated her ceiling using sound deadening insulation and homo-soat board along with ½ thick sheetrock. We taped, spackled her ceiling and left it paint ready as per the signed contract we had with her. We also replaced 4- 2’ x 2’ ceiling tiles in her bathroom. The member paid her balance due. About 3 weeks later the member called and told me that although the noise level had been reduced she could still hear noises coming from the second floor. I then made an appointment and met with the member, I inspected once again the work that was done and told the member that the noise levels are reduced. That is what we contracted the work for, a reduction in the noise level. The member is well aware that we could not 100% have no sound whatsoever coming through the floor. We are a 4th generation family business with a Stellar reputation for service. The member does readily admit in her complaint to the Better business bureau that her hearing may be more acute than others. We did discuss with her other options as we first did when estimating the job. We suggested having a double padded carpet installed on the second floor. But the member decided not to have that done. The member also wrote in her complaint to the BBB that our company “Write off the loss because we are incorporated” That is not how we do business. We have gone above and beyond the contract we had with the member. We have offered her discounts, we have tried to work with her , answer all her concerns. The Better business bureau has deemed the complaints with the member concluded and closed. The Better Business bureau agreed that we have done everything possible to try to reach a satisfactory conclusion for both parties, but the member has not been satisfied with their answer either. It is unfortunate, but we have done everything in our power to rectify the situation coming short of giving her a full refund and that we just cannot do. There was a laundry list of extra small jobs we did at her property at the time that we did not charge for. In conclusion although we do value the member as a customer we cannot refund any thing to her. We feel that we more than filled our obligation to the member and can only hope that she will understand our final decision. Regards, Lonnie Spector Mr. Contractor Inc.

The project went exactly how steve said it would go. Its was a total of 13 days and steve estimated 12-14 days from start to finish. Steve and his family run an excellent business. They are always on time And very punctual. The crews were very pleasant and answered any questions we asked them during the job. Joe, Jim and Greg did the complete project on our deck and kitchen. Thankyou very much for the wonderful job you did and we are enjoying everything especially the deck with the great weather we have been having. Hire Mr Contractor if you want your job done right
Description of Work: My husband and I hired Mr Contractor a few years ago for a minor siding repair job and Steve came out to our home and gave us a estimate without any high pressure sales tactics like we have experienced in the past. We called him back the next day and hired him for the job. From there on out we have been using Steve and his crew. This latest project was our deck and kitchen renovation. We contacted steve and told him what we wanted to do and use Mr Contractor for the projects. Steve picked us up and took us to his cabinet, tile, and appliance supplier to let us pick exactly what we wanted. He gave us few different ideas and layouts to choose from and his own ideas also which were very helpful and stayed within our budget. For our deck he brought us samples of different decking materials and we decided to go with the new trex decking with the protective layer over it, which was a little over what we what we wanted to spend but in the long run we would benefit from it. Both projects started the same time, within 3 weeks of us signing a contract. They worked straight through without any days missed. Their crews are excellent .

Each project Kenny/Mr. Contractor has done for us has been great! He's incredibly punctual, good sense of humor, and straight-up about what will & won't work. He's never tried to get us to spend more than we can afford, and I know that if his guys have done the project it will be both aesthetically and structurally perfect.
Description of Work: We have worked with Kenny from Mr. Contractor for several different projects, and are completely satisfied with each of them. About 1 1/2 yrs ago they completely re-did our old kitchen and a powder room. Eight months ago his guys replaced our roof. Now we've hired him to remodel another bathroom. The best thing about Kenny and Mr. Contractor is that he will spend AS MUCH TIME AS YOU NEED to brainstorm ideas, explain why certain things will/won't work, and come up with solutions for every possible issue. When we did our kitchen my husband & I didn't really know exactly what we wanted -- Kenny was great about giving us different possibilities and blueprints, all while making sure we were able to stay within our budget. He created a warm, inviting, open kitchen for us to enjoy. When they redid our roof, it was the same -- he explained our options, and made sure the work was meticulously done. Whenever my husband noticed anything that he wasn't sure about, Kenny's guys went over it with no problems. We've now hired him to remodel another bathroom. As always he showed up on time and took about an hour going over rudimentary ideas. He called me 2 days later with different ideas and estimates, and then returned to our house and spent 2 hours going over nitty-gritty details and more floorplan ideas -- all the while making sure we could stay within our budget.

We were never able to see eye to eye on my desired project. I also had an issue in the price difference from the estimate to the project proposal. We did not end up completing the deal. I just saw this response for why we did not complete our deal. This company did refund my deposit without any hassle for me. I appreciated that from them. I do want to be clear. My complaint about this company which I did not state had to do with their sexist treatment of me as a female customer. I ask a lot of questions because I like to know what the job entails. I do research because I like to know what I am buying. I believe he was the owner but he just seemed to think that I should not ask for details about how the job would be completed. I got that because he referenced that if I were baking a cake, he would assume I was an expert and not ask any question about it. Obviously I insulted him in some way. So our personalities would not be compatible. When he returned my money, he told me that he thought I would be too difficult. No problem you do have to be able to communicate. Yes, I did hire a designer. But no plumbing was to be moved. I was taking out a tub and putting in a shower in its place. I do not remember being told that this would require major plumbing changes. When the estimate was given, I already had the designer so at the time of the estimate everyone knew a tub was coming out and shower going in. As an expert, I expect the price to reflect the job I have described. His son gave the first estimate, then he came later with a different amount after the deposit was given. I do not like to work with experts that cannot give a good approximate estimate. I do not think that when dealing with an experienced company that estimates should be so far off. If you open up a wall and find a problem, that is different.
Description of Work: I had him out to give me an estimate on a bathroom project.

We were not able to start the project for member due to the following reasons - Member signed a contract and gave a 4500 deposit - when start date approached member informed us she hired a designer for her bathroom after signing up with us which changed the layout of the bathroom with plumbing needing to be moved to different locations. - We refunded Members deposit in full due to member not able to pay for extra plumbing work

I definitely got what I paid for and will be using Mr. Contractor again for many more future projects. This was a work equity project with me gutting a bedroom and doing the rough wiring before the contractor started doing the sound proofing and dry wall. Mr. Contractor was reluctant at first to coordinate our electrical work with the carpenter, but it worked out despite me holding up the carpenter's schedule rewalling the bedroom with needed extra time completeing the rough electrical work prior to closing up the walls in the bedroom. The window replacement and siding work wasn't entirely dependent on the carpenter's work and the total schedule planned for the project finished on time. Window replacement was completed in one day. Some disagreement about some extra steps we wanted applying the siding and fixing the underlying structures that the siding was going over, but Barry was able to work with me and correct the issues to my satisfaction. The oak hardwood floor in the bedroom was repaired and refinished by Geo. King hired by Barry. Excellent work. Mr. King has been doing this type of work for 47 years and the experience shows with the excellent results of the floor. I hope he will inspire the next generation to take up his hard work for future.Overall the workers were competent and prompt. and Barry would respond to my questions and concerns without delay.
Description of Work: Sound proofed, insulated, dry walled and restored workwork to closely match original for one gutted bedroom. replaced 7 upstairs windows and all exterior siding and gutters. replaced 6 interior doors. refinished oak hardwood floor. Mr. Contractor had contracted good hardworking tradesmen for each of the tasks outlined above. Best that have a good working knowledge of what you want in materials and type of work needed. Barry (Mr. Contractor) works well with planning what you need and how long it will take. He didn't micromanage his workers, however, it's best for owner to stay on the premises to make sure instructions and items are not overlooked accidently. Make sure every detail and item is in your estimate and contract. It avoided issues with misinterpretations when the work was started and protected both owner and contractor from any bad feelings about the work.
The work started two days after the contract start date of 09/19/11, however the workers more than made up for the late start. The work performed was excellent, the workers were very professional, worked non stop without any breaks, cleaned up at the end of each work day and completed the job before the estimated completion date; which made up for the late start. I am pleased with the up grades to my kitchen and foyer.
Description of Work: Kitchen-removal of trim to doorway, windows and cermic tile from walls. Sheetrock walls, retrim doorway, add new window sills and four inch baseboard and crown molding to ceiling, install new kitchen door with new hardware and replace three electrical outlets. A Dura cermic tile floor for 12x11 kitchen area was installed with beige rubber cone base under the cabinets and a glass and stone back splash around the sink and stove area. All walls and trim was painted. Foyer-a Dura cermic tile for 5x5 foyer area was installed with new trim and painted.

Overall, the experience was okay. The painting was excellent, but after they installed the carpeting, they never cleaned up. The work itself was good. They left a big roll outside in my driveway, and left little pieces (which is fine, since I used those) and debris that we had to clean up. They didn't even vaccuum the carpeting after they were done. If they cleaned up after themselves, they would've had an A, but the problem was the clean-up.
Description of Work: They installed new carpeting on the steps and in the hallway. They also painted inside.

Overall, the experience wasn’t that great. For the windows, I told them I wanted the highest R-factor possible, and the windows really aren’t that well insulated. The thing that really made us angry is the stairwell. They had two guys come that were very rude, inconsiderate, and didn’t put any drop cloths down to protect any of our belongings. It was an incredibly messy job. When we asked them about covering our belongings, they told us it was our job to do that. The quality of the stairwell material is lousy; it’s porch-like material. We’re going to have their work ripped out and re-done by another contractor.
Description of Work: They installed new windows, and replaced the stairway between the second and third floor in our home.

We did indeed contract work with a customer named Member at this particular address. This work was contracted 10 years ago. What we do not have is any record of complaint from this customer. So we are surprised by this report. Had we known of her dissappointment we would have addressed it immediatley. Unfortunatly after 10 years there is nothing that we can do at this point. We did install 26 windows at this address then a month afterward we were contracted again to install another window.

We were really happy with them. They were terrific. They did an excellent job replacing the windows. A few years ago, something fell onto our front window, which broke the glass. I called them and they were incredibly responsive with replacing the glass. We haven’t had any problems with the windows. We’re actually thinking about calling them again to get some additional work done on the home.
Description of Work: They replaced all of the windows in our home about 7 years ago. About 2 years ago, they completely renovated one room on the house, and about three years ago they fixed a window.

Overall, the experience went fairly well. The technicians came out quickly and on time. They cleaned up after themselves and it didn’t take them that long to do the job. I had purchased my own materials, and I just wanted them to install it, so I thought their price was expensive. I couldn’t find anyone else to do the job; other companies wanted me to send the materials back.

He charged $3800 to lay a strip of roofing that was not quite 2’x18’. This was supposed to stop a leak, but it the leak continued. I called another contractor, who replaced the entire roof for only $2,000. This contractor also showed me two feet of the strip that had not been sealed, which meant that when it rained, water was still able to leak through. Mr. Contractor’s price was outrageous, and he didn’t even do the job correctly. When I realized how little had actually been done, I asked him for half of the $3800 back. The job wasn’t even worth that, but I wanted to compromise. He refused to refund any of the money. I would never recommend this company.
Description of Work: He was supposed to fix a leak in my roof after removing and reinstalling 3 deck planks. The area was approximately 2 feet wide and 18 feet long. which was supposed to stop leaks in the ceiling. 3 deck planks were removed and a strip of roofing was laid down and the 3 deck planks were then put back down.

They were good. The technicians showed up on time, and were quick and efficient. The clean-up could use some improvement. Thanks for the positive response. I know our cleanup wasn't up to your satisfaction because me and you talked about how particular we both are when it comes to our homes being spotless. As with any remodeling job there will always be some type of cleanup on the customers end. But i am glad to hear you were happy with the windows and the installation.

It turned out really well, but the process was a little confusing since they’re a pretty big outfit. The job took 5 days, and it seemed like every day a new sub-contractor was out. I had to explain the project each day. However, they did very good work.

The experience has been good. The window replacement was many years ago, but the work was very well done. They were quite reliable. I just replaced the windows in January of this year. I used a different contractor for that due to the price. I received a quote from Mr. Contractor, but I got a better price from another company.
Description of Work: They installed fourteen windows about 20 years ago. They also re-plastered a room in my basement underneath my front porch about 5 years ago. All of the mortar between the stones had dried out. Just recently, they provided me with a quote for window replacement.
