I contacted Mr. Contractor Monday March 17,2014 for a renovation estimate. The receptionist took my contact information and told me someone would get back with me within 24 hours. Later that day, I received a called from Barry Spector. We both agreed to meet Wednesday March 19. I didn't hear anything concerning the estimate until the following Wednesday March 26. Barry left a message for me to call him. I returned his called Friday March 28.Mr. Spector told me "I'm in the middle of doing payroll, Could I call you back" REALLY BARRY? Needless to say Mr. Contractor doesn't need my business and I don't need their service. I received (3) other estimates and got the results back within 2/3 days.

I would like to apologize to [member name removed] and [member name removed] for any inconvenience I may have caused. [member name removed] did call and set an appointment to meet with him. I did meet with [member name removed], [member name removed] could not be present at the specified appointed time. I tried to reach out to [member name removed] early in the week regarding his estimate. I left a message for him to contact me. Later in the week [member name removed] did return my call, unfortunately, it just happened to be at a time when I was immersed in paper work and could not dedicate the time needed to go over his detailed estimate and I promised to call him back as soon as I possibly could. I am sorry it was not convenient for [member name removed] and have since reached out to him.

I have used Mr Contractor for past projects and I had some old windows in the house we recently purchased. They replaced 9 total windows down to the frames and covered the wood outside so my husband and I dont have to paint. Ken and Steve always send their A-1 crews out and joe and johnny did a fabulous job from start to finish which was a fay and a half.

I found Mr Contractor on Angie's list and read all the reviews provided as well as those of other contractors. I decided to contact Mr Contractor the day following the collapse of the basement wall which was a very good decision. The collapse occured in the laundry room area in the later part of December,2013. An appointment was made for Steve to come out and assess the damage the next day following initial contact. Steve arrived on schedule, completed a through assessment, patiently and politely explained the intensive damage, discussed what needed to be done and to answer all my other questions. Initially, the work was to begin after the New Year holidays but later I was gratefully provided with an earlier date for December. The work crew arrived as scheduled and every day thereafter until the job was completed including all day New Years' Eve. My home was built in 1925 with the basement wall constructed mainly of sand and stone but with Decembers' inclement weather ,our basement wall suprisingly just collapsed. The entire basement wall needed to be reconstructed and safely reinforced. The area affected also contained an oil heating tank as well as housing laundry appliances and half a bathroom. The toilet and vanity sink needed to be removed by the workmen and were not replaced at my request. The workers also cleaned up all debris accumulated by each days' work. The divirsified team of builders, carpenters and painters worked consistently put in a full day's work every day and were always professional. Tyrone, the crew supervisor would appear periodically to check for progress and to see if I might have any concerns. He would also telephone me while the job was in progress and remained available for any contact. Work on the front exterior wall eventually began as planned and the stone front was replaced for economic and safety reasons. New,more efficient and attractive windows were installed on the first floor. We love the new windows!! In addition, vinyl siding was added just around the uppermost areas surrounding the roof which is very attractive in itself. In my opinion, this was a big job but because the work went so well my family, never felt intruded upon. The first floor was basically replaced resulting not only with a more attractive front home exterior but in the long run will be more energy efficient therefore saving on utility bills. Some of our neighbors and others just passing by seemed to be inpressed with the wotk in progress as some workers were approached with requests for contact information in reference to Mr Contractor.Following completion of the work conducted on my home,I received two follow up calls from Steve or others representing Mr Contractor wanting to know my current level of satisfaction and if there were any concerns regarding any area of the work done. Personally, my family and I remain very pleased with all the services provided by this family owned company. I will certainly be contacting Mr Contractor again soon due to the ongoing inclement weather and a resulting leak in the roof of my home. I know to expect the same excellent service as previously. I would strongly and happily recommend Mr Contractor to anyone.
Description of Work: Reconstructed the entire front basement wall ,both interior and exterior.

I don't even know where to begin. Mr. Contractor has been a blessing. My mom and I hired Mr. Contractor back in October, 2013 to remodel mom's two bedrooms, which were in need of some serious updates and to replace old ceiling tiles in the kitchen and living room. We called them to get an estimate and were so impressed with Ken Spector when he came out that we hired them right on the spot. Since it was going to be a messy job, we took mom out of the house for a week so she wouldn't be in the way. Ken and his crew kept us up-to-date with phone calls, e-mails, pictures of the problems, etc. the entire time so we could make the appropriate decisions. They found faulty wiring after the old ceiling tiles were removed in the kitchen so we had them replace the wiring before putting the new tiles up. There was no pressure from Ken to have them do the work, they were just keeping us advised of the problems. Needless to say, the house looked great after the work. Of course, there were minor issues like a scratched wall, missing, paint, so we called Ken and someone was out there the next day to fix these issues. And, now to the recent dilemma. After all the bad weather this year in the northeast, mom discovered a leak in her bathroom ceiling. She called Ken and he was there right away checking out the problem. He discovered that there was a tear on her roof, which had water leaking in the house and down the siding in her yard. He sent his crew out the next day and put on a new roof. The siding will be replaced once the weather gets back to normal. I can't say enough good things about Mr. Contractor, Ken and his entire staff. The quote and completion date estimates were accurate. All of the people who came to work on the house were professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. They far exceeded our expectations of contractors and we would highly recommend them. If other issues arrive, we will use them again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: Remodeled two bedrooms, replaced ceiling tiles in living room and kitchen, replaced faulty wiring, installed new kitchen lighting, new windows, new roof and replace siding when weather gets nicer.

We could not have been happier with the entire team at Mr Contractor. We worked with 2 project managers through the course of construction - brothers Barry and Ken. Both were wonderful. Knowledgeable, courteous, punctual, responsive. From the first meeting, we were left with a handwritten estimate from Ken. They stuck with that estimate and did not nickel and dime us along the way for minor unforeseen issues. Mr C was definitely more expensive than some of other contractors we received quotes from but we were so at ease and confident in them from the very start - we went with them anyway. They did not disappoint. I am very particular and, when I had an issue with the style of trim around the windows - the style, not the craftsmanship - they reinstalled it exactly how I wanted with no problem. Their responsiveness and craftsmanship was top notch. We would not hesitate to recommend them and to use them in the future.
Description of Work: We live in a 2 story row home and the entire back stucco wall had been taking on water for about 7 years through a leak in the upstairs window. We needed the entire back wall taken down to studs and rebuilt. This included demo of the wall and existing sliding door and windows- plus installation of new slider and window - we provided these, Mr C installed - installation of new fiber cement siding, interior drywall, painting and trim. Our roof was also leaking. Mr C took a look at it and recommended that the entire roof didn't need to be done and a patch job would be sufficient. They replaced a fixed skylight with an operable one.

The top of our alleyway next to our rowhome was rotted and broken, so much so that you could see all the way to the subfloor on the second floor. We were getting a ton of cold air blowing up and the floors on the second level of the house were freezing. Barry came out gave an assessment of the repair and some potential approaches to fixing the problem. We decided on a process that would suit our needs. His crew came out and insulated the area, put up insulated boards then sealed up the whole area. There was a ton of debris that came down with the repair, but his team removed it all and swept the alley/sidewalk. There is still some brick dust on the ground in the alleyway, but we will likely have to wait until the spring to powerwash it out, since temps have been below freezing the past two weeks. It was a quick, painless experience. It was a pleasure working with them and hope to have them do some other larger projects in our home this spring!

The demolition team forgot to create a barrier between the basement and the house. Cement dust traveled through the house all the way to the 3rd floor. Dust covered everything the owner of the company came to the house to assess the situation and to apologize. They hired a restoration crew who dusted and vacuumed and polished the contents of our home for 5 hours. The company gave us a $200.00 discount and an allowance of $50.00 for the things that were ruined (mops, dusters, etc.) covered with cement dust that had to be thrown out. They were so responsive and concerned. We all know that mistakes happen, and Mr. Contractor made sure that we were satisfied and happy. A very good company!

I would say at the end of August, they finished. It was around $40000. It was very pleasant experience. The person had over saw the work, and very responsive to phone calls, anything that we had, any concerns about the address immediately, and it was very good experience. I would say that they were very responsible and reliable that work was always very satisfied with the work that was done and the products that were provided. For the remodeling at the kitchen, it was sort of like one stop shopping where the company had access for everything we needed to for the others who made it very easy for us too. So, that is what we have needed because we were working with one person. And everything was system and everything installed.
Description of Work: I used Mr. Contractor Inc. for handymen, interior painting, and general, basement, and kitchen remodeling. He completely remodeled the kitchen and did work in the whole downstairs which included painting and we have popcorn ceiling, he took care of that and he installed recess sliding and also crown molding in our living room. He took care of refurnishing our hardwood tools.

I got 2 inches of water in a 182 ft. basement. At first I thought that I had a leak, however, it was cause be water pipe break in my neighbor's shed. The water I heard from my bathroom was water leaking from neighbor's shed. Mr. Contractor took a photo of the ice surrounding the neighbor yard and forwarded a me to e-mail to my insurance company. How did he know that it was caused by my neighbor? Mr Contractor and a plumber flushed all toilets, ran water in sinks and tubs, turn valves off, check water meter. Then they examined the parameters of my yards and neighboring yards. Voila! Blocks of ice was under my neighbor's shed, and water was seeping from the yard door.

Barry and his crew were excellent. Extremely responsive, extremely careful while working in and on our house. The craftsmanship of each trade was of high quality. The coordination and sequencing of the work (especially given that the space is only big enough for one trade at a time) was well run. Their pride in doing good work was great to see.

The roof work went great. The roofers arrived on time and did a great job. My main roof and the smaller roof in the back were replaced. There was no sign that the roofers were there. Sidewalk was clean and the rood looked great bc I went up to see it. Steve called to ask questions and if I was satisfied. Mr. Contractor is a great at what they do. As recent as 2 weeks ago, Steve was back in my house due to issues with my chimney, probleme was fixed in 48 hours as soon as the weather permitted, and Steve was in communication with me guaranteeing I was not forgoten.
Description of Work: I have used the provider in the past for my kitchen and bathroom remodelling. I called Steve at Mr. Contractor for referal when I found a leak in my bathroom, not realizing they fixed roof too. Steve Spector was clear in explaining what the issue was with my roof and he even took pictures. Appointment was scheduled and kept, and roof was fixed with warrantee. I was very pleased with the roof work, and was guaranteed a roof check every few years.

The owner stated that he could do what I wanted. The person installing the produce was a little careless with his tools, which I brought to his and his boss' attention. The quality of the product was lacking, though it looks better than what was replaced. The complete work was not what was communicated to me. Although not in these exact words, I was basically told that because the walls weren't straight, the targeted quality of the finished product couldn't have been met. The owner was responsive to some of my dissatisfaction and was able to remedy part of the problem and gave an additional discount. Maybe I would give the contractor another shot.

We at Mr. Contractor know that if it wasn’t for our customers and their referrals that we would not have survived for over 64 years. Online reviews are important because many people turn to them for candid reactions when selecting a contractor. We sometimes make mistakes. We don’t like to read a review that isn’t 100% positive. We view a neutral or simply satisfactory review as improvement being needed. [member name removed] reminds us that we must strive to do better and keep customers loyal and happy. [member name removed] had contracted with Mr. Contractor to do $7,000 of work back in August 2013. We completed his job and earned a very positive review on Angie’ List with an overall grade of an “A”. We appreciate the time [member name removed] took to inform the Angie’s community about our company. In November 2013, [member name removed] contracted with us to do $800 worth of work. This time Mr. Contractor didn’t live up to his high expectations. As he pointed out, we told him we could do whatever he wanted. It is clear we did not fulfill this promise. If our workers were being careless with their tools -- it is not acceptable. Since speaking with [member name removed] we have talked to all of our workers and will continue to monitor future jobs. We are not going to hide behind excuses regarding the condition of the house as to why [member name removed] was not completely satisfied. Aside form providing a price reduction and our sincere apologies to [member name removed], we can only promise to work harder going forward. Our customer’s satisfaction is top priority. [member name removed] was kind enough to give an honest review and note that we earned “A’s” in both Responsiveness and Punctuality and a “B” in Professionalism. [member name removed] stated that he might still give us another shot as being the contractor he would hire. We hope the [member name removed] will allow us to prove why we are Philadelphia’s #1 contractor and earn a positive review and his accolades.

My floors are lifting and they are separating. They will not return my phone calls. I had stated to him, he knew the floors were terrible. I said it needed a sub-floor. He told me, he would just make up numbers. My floor to the entry of my house, the vestibule door is lifting. The strip that divides the vestibule from the living room that is completely cracked. My floors are separating throughout the whole house. They are lifting. And he will not call me back. He said I'm not some jack-lag, that's what his words was. I told him that's not businesslike. He is a nightmare, he has not returned a phone call. He didn't supply anything. I had to pay for everything. The top of my step where you come up he it is separating from the floor. I can more and you can see them lifting. The toilet was there the vanity was there, the hardwood floors were here. He is absolutely horrible. He painted, where the bronze was he didn't take that down, he painted up to that. The wallpaper is pealing off the walls in the bathroom. It's a nightmare. He is very arrogant, he is very nasty. They did my banister, the spoke was upside down. There is a piece of cardboard that they screwed the hinge over. They cut the molding so high up it's a quarter of an inch from the floors. The floors are actually splitting. They took the outlets out, none of my outlets fit in the wall. I don;t think that I'm being unreasonable, it's a ten year warranty. He won't call me back. I have never in my life had the displeasure of meeting someone as arrogant as he. He said he was going to come out, I assumed that when I called you guys he got wind of he, he never showed up. He wouldn't even give me the $500 discount and I had the coupon. I would like to update this review: I was in a bad state and took it out in a bad way. He did a good job and the flooring is coming up, but he did do his job. I am sorry for the original negative review. I will say kudos and bravo.

Here at Mr. Contractor we take all of our customer reviews seriously. We treat the reviews, both positive and negative, as a measure of our performance and as a tool for corrective measures. With regards to [Member name removed], we never like to read about a bad customer experience. For 64 years we have built our company on reputation and customer referrals. We must hold ourselves accountable for mistakes on a job that we make. However, this is not one of those cases regarding [Member name removed]. We have read and re-read [Member name removed] complaint and it is very hard for us to follow and understand it. We have even asked agents at Angie’s List if they could comprehend this review -- and they could not. Not only does [Member name removed] not address people by their name (e.g. his sales advisor was Ken Spector) but he also states the incorrect cost of the job (e.g. Contract #1: $18,000 and Contract #2: $1,680) and the incorrect date of work completion (e.g. Contract #1 began 7/27/2010 and Contract #2 began 8/24/2010 – all work was finished by 9/15/2010) and the incorrect warranty coverage (e.g. all work carries a 1 year warranty). Looking past all these vital parts when lodging a credible complaint, the core of [Member name removed] complaint appears to be about the wood floor that was installed. Other than that, we simply can’t understand the rest of this review. [Member name removed] rambles with incomplete thoughts put into equally incomplete sentences. We have since reached out to [Member name removed] to discuss this complaint but none of our calls have been returned. [Member name removed] entered into a contract with Mr. Contractor on 7/27/2010 to finish a job done at his home by other contractors. Another company had worked on [Member name removed] house but the work was not done correctly and left incomplete (and in disarray). [Member name removed] was going after the other company for breach of contract and needed Mr. Contractor to finish the job. We entered into a contract with [Member name removed] and we completed the job. [Member name removed] was pleased and entered into a second contract with Mr. Contractor on 8/24/2010 for additional work to be done. Again, [Member name removed] was satisfied with the work. [Member name removed] even asked Mr. Contractor to help him fight the prior contractor by writing a statement on his behalf about the jobsite. Mr. Contractor obliged. On 9/15/2010, Mr. Contractor asked [Member name removed] if he would sign off on a “Certificate of Completion” for the work performed at his home. The signed Certificate of Completion clearly states, “I am fully satisfied with all work and material and consider the contract with Mr. Contractor Inc. fulfilled”. We have not heard from [Member name removed] again until a few months ago. Almost 3.5 years have passed since the original contract that [Member name removed] signed. [Member name removed] called our office and spoke with our Office Manager, Jennie, to complain about the current condition of his floor. Ken Spector attempted to call back [Member name removed] to discus the situation. [Member name removed] and Ken spoke briefly but [Member name removed] was unable to meet because of medical conditions. Ken asked [Member name removed] to call when he was ready to meet so that he could review the situation and determine the best course of action. A few weeks later, [Member name removed] called and left a message for Ken. Ken called [Member name removed] back (2) times to schedule a time to meet. [Member name removed] eventually called Ken back and again, said he would not be able to meet because of medical conditions. Ken asked [Member name removed] to call when he was ready to meet so that he could review the situation and determine the best course of action. Ken tried to call [Member name removed] on (3) different occasions and left various voicemails. Ken asked Jennie the Office Manager to also call on (2) different occasions, and she also left voicemails. On November 12, 2011, [Member name removed] contacted Angie’s List to submit this negative review. Since then Ken has tried calling [Member name removed] (3) times to discuss the situation and still continues to offer to meet and review the situation. Ken is willing and ready to evaluate, and if deemed appropriate - correct the situation. Whatever Mr. Contractor decides to do for [Member name removed] is a courtesy and well beyond the 1 year warranty that is clearly stated on the back of the signed contract on 7/27/10. [Member name removed] negative review is both very distasteful and unwarranted. Although it is hard to follow and fully comprehend, it does convey a false impression about Mr. Contractor. We are sorry that [Member name removed] is having these issues and that he feels that Mr. Contractor is at fault. We want to help [Member name removed] as we would with any of our customers regardless of the warranty status. Sadly, [Member name removed] seems to have bad experiences with all the contractors he hires and has grouped Mr. Contractor into that category. It is unfortunate that 41 months later, [Member name removed] has decided to attack Mr. Contractor’s reputation online. Something to note, is the grading distribution that [Member name removed] has assigned Mr. Contractor. On every category [Member name removed] has given Mr. Contractor a grade of an “F”. Despite what [Member name removed] might say about the quality of the work, it is hard to imagine that he was not happy about the price (but still signed and paid the contract) and responsiveness (despite our best efforts to reach out to him) and punctuality (we were never late to the jobsite) or the professionalism (we even helped [Member name removed] go after the prior contractor). Yet at the end of the job, Mr. Contractor was hired back by [Member name removed] and entered a second contract. After both jobs were completed, [Member name removed] signed a Certificate of Completion. It is clear that [Member name removed] is upset about something and is now taking it out on Mr. Contractor. As bad as we feel for [Member name removed] circumstances we do not agree with his course of action in writing this negative review.

Appointment at my house was kept on time. Spoke w/Steve Spector, one of the family members of the business. I explained what I wanted. After assessing the job, he told me the work I wanted was overboard and not necessary. He took his time to discuss several options. Prior to agreeing that Mr. Contractor would do the work, Steve offered an additional discount. The day after signing the contract, I had several questions, Steve was quite responsive and answered my questions. The work was started and completed per contract. I actually called to have additional work done on my house. So far, I'm satisfied with Mr. Contractor and would recommend to others.

Mr. Contractor came back and fixed that door. Plus, he had his carpenter put new and better hings on all the doors as a 'thanks for the business' I was quite surprised at the service. They are a great company. Thanks.

Kenny and his crew were very helpful throughout the project - from planning and scheduling to the actual work. Kenny was easy to deal with on some changes to the construction as time approached and the price was fair for the changes. Construction was very quick around some rainy days and the team finished ahead of schedule. The deck looks better than I imagined and could not be happier with the product they delivered. Kenny's painter for the door was really helpful and did a top quality job. I would suggest Mr. Contractor and all of the individuals that worked at my house to anyone.

The work is always superb. Mr. Contractor and the entire crew are professional and trustworthy. They are on time and complete jobs on time. Mr. Contractor is probably on the higher end of cost/estimates. But they never go over a budget once it is set. There is no bait-and-switch. You can count on their estimates to be accurate. And we have found that although they are not the least expensive bid, they are the most trustworthy and reliable.
Description of Work: Over the years, Mr. Contractor has done many projects in our house. They are among the very best we've ever used. Most recently, they remodeled our basement which involved excavation, and some crafty carpentry.

The job went beautifully! Lonnie has his guys demo (very neatly and cleanly done) and then give us a new sheet rock ceiling. They then painted not only the ceiling but went ahead and did the walls as it was a small room. All this in one day! Lonnie knew we were desperate as a new group was coming in to volunteer and we needed the space and took care of everything!
Description of Work: We are a soup kitchen in north Philadelphia and had an emergency in one of our volunteer houses. A bedroom roof had caved in and we had a full house! The townhouse was old and the room had received a drop ceiling by the previous owner so we were unaware of the problem that lurked above. Mr. Contractor (Lonnie) was called that morning at about 8:00 AM and was there to assess and by 9:00! He had guys there the next day to complete the work.
