We signed several contracts with the contractor for remodeling an old house to a three-story commercial building. For each signed contract, we either paid in full or 50% of the cost. He used the cheapest materials and didn't follow the building code. For example, he didn't put Tyvek on the exterior wall. Winndows were simply installed on the bare drywall. We had to buy tyvek and window tite seal materials, to ask his workers to put them on. There's water leak to the basement due to poor foundation work with very poor french drain work. All the stairs (first floor to second floor to third floor) were done poorly that the new contractor (we hired recently) told us that they must be re-done. After we had dispute with the contractor, the work was slow down on purpose. For a period of three months (5/2013 -8/2013), on the average, his two workers will only come two days per week. In late September 2013, we received a mechanic's lien from 84 Lumber that we own $4434.19 to 84 Lumber. This is the siding material cost that we already paid to the contractor in full. We hired a lawyer to deal with him and he finally paid the lien himself. It was such a painful experience with this contractor. We are still trying to recover.....
