The plumber himself was just okay [nothing exceptional], but I found it very strange that he couldn't give an exact price for the service. He had to call into his shop to get the rate. He worked 45 minutes and I was charged for a full hour plus a travel charge.

The plumber did a very good job. We had picked up the dishwasher and had the box in the garage. He first uninstalled the first dishwasher that was being moved to the other house and took it outside. Then he unpacked the new dishwasher and put the handle on (which was not easy - I saw the instructions and he had to take the whole door apart). He then installed the new dishwasher. He verified that it was draining, but we could not get it to draw water. The hoses were connected and the water was turned on, but there is something wrong with the dishwasher itself - so I am calling the company I bought it from to come repair it. Obviously it is still under warranty. The plumber then took the dishwasher from our house and moved it to the house next door. He uninstalled that dishwasher first and took it outside, then he brought in and installed the dishwasher from our house. He then verified it was working and it was. For the brand new not working dishwasher, when I called the service area, the plumber was very nice and even talked to them for me when they started asking me technical questions. He answered all their questions and did the procedures they asked him to do (they think it was in 'demo' mode). However, nothing worked. So the repair technician is going to come this Friday to fix it. All total it was about 5 hours of work.

The overall experience was excellent. I had no problem with the work they did for me. I would grade them highly for their quality of service, punctuality, responsiveness, and professionalism. They were there when they said they would be. The price is pretty much right in the range. I would use them again in the future.

I called the company on 2/14 and was quoted a price over the phone. Because it was not an emergency, they gave me a date and time for the service call. Tony was there at the exact time quoted and repaired my toilet in 30 minutes. I would use them again.

The serviceman was in and out in just a few minutes and solved the problem.

Service man appeared within the expected time. Diagnosed the problem. Cut out a section of pipe with faucet and replaced pipe and faucet; tested and cleaned up area. Faucet has been working flawlessly since. Approximate time on site - 45 minutes.

I called just after christmas to see when they could install my toilets and they had a technician out in 2 days. The technician was efficient and very personable. He did a great job...this is our second experience with hl bowman and we have been very pleased both times.

They were prompt and courteous. Their price was fair. They did what they had to do, and they were out. I did receive a discount with this company, but the quality of their work is really good. Some of the pipes were copper, which took me by surprise.

We had gotten new sinks which my husband planned on connecting in our master bath, but the day before they came my drain started running very slowly again, something which it does fairly often. My husband told me to call a plumber and see if they could figure out a way to correct this problem once and for all. I called H.L. Bowman, told them the problem and asked for an approximate cost. They told me approximately $300, and they could come the next morning, which I very much appreciated. The plumber arrived first thing the next morning, diagnosed what he thought was wrong, hooked up the new sinks, and changed some connections which he thought were causing the water to drain slowly. He also said he couldn't believe that my house had passed a plumbing inspection, since it did not have any straps holding the pipes to the ceiling in the basement, and if they had left go, I could have had a big water problem over all of the things I have stored directly under them. He was very personable, explained what he was doing and didn't seem to mind explaining things to a woman who knows nothing about plumbing (he was very patient in explaining everything). I very much appreciated him attaching the new straps, even though it was not something I knew that I needed. The faucets look terrific, and the water is draining great, so I guess what he did corrected the problem. The final bill was only a tiny bit higher than what they had told me on the phone, but after using my Angie's List coupon, my bill was actually lower than the estimated price. I'm VERY HAPPY to have found a new plumber who I think I can trust to do good and fair work.

John came to the house on time, introduced himself, and began work promptly. He made great attempts to re-create the problem, determined the approximate source, advised me of the nature of the repair (required some drywall removal), and asked permission before proceeding. Obviously, I wanted the problem repaired, so I authorized the work. On first guess, he isolated the area the leak was coming from, quickly isolated a bad coupler, and made minimally invasive (and neat) cuts into the drywall and within the wall to extract the bad coupler and installed a new one. All said and done, I trust HL Bowman for my plumbing needs and appreciate their accommodations in speedy and accurate repairs.

An electric razor fell into the toilet and clogged the pipe. I could not retrieve using the snake on hand, so I required the professional services of a plumber. I chose HL Bowman based on dozens of positive Angie List reviews. I called the plumber, who was very courteous and personable, and he promptly set up a next day appointment. The plumber arrived on time the next day and spent about an hour and a half retrieving the razor. He had to take off the toilet to retrieve it. When I came home from work, the bathroom and toilet were exactly how I left it. I was very pleased with the work done. I wouldn't think of using anybody else for my future plumbing needs.

Dos; Men were diligent in getting the job done. Even though it was a simple job. The location (basement) made it precarious. They did a good job despite the difficulties. Don'ts; Took awhile to get back to me as to when they would be out to do the work and were not totally prepared to preform the work. They did not have all the materials with them when they arrived and had to go back to their shop to get them, twice.

Everything went just fine with this company. The crew was very friendly and professional. The sump pump seems to be doing the job so I cant complain. I felt they really seemed to know what they are doing. I would recommend this company to anyone.

On 10/15/2009, HL Bowman came to my house to change a dryer duct and install it to my new dryer. I knew I needed their help because when I made the appointment I had explained that the company who delivered the dryer was supposed to do the hook up but could not, because it involved removing some drywall. The vent entered the floor and went under the kitchen to exit in back of my house. Therefore, the drywall in the basement ceiling had to be cut out so that the old duct could be replaced. The repairman was late, and I had to leave while he was still installing the duct. A few days later I received a bill from HL Bowman for $711.50 for simply hooking up my dryer and running a new duct! I called the manager, Dennis, to ask why it was so much. Also, why, if such a simple process was going to involve over $150, I would not have been given an estimate. He replied that the repairman told him I was not around during the repairs. He then said, and I quote, “I told George you were going to b**** about how many hours this took.” Instead of explaining why the job took seven hours (plus an additional hour of helper time), he told me that I could pay what I thought was fair and then we could “part ways.” First, I have used HL Bowman several times over the years to do jobs at my commercial property in town. The repairman, George, has always been my mechanic and I have always been very happy with both his attitude and his work. However, the manager's attitude toward me when I questioned my bill was appalling. I will never recommend this company to any other homeowners or business owners after this incident. The repairman was to have met me at my house at 7:30 am on 10/15/09. I had explained when I made the appointment with the HL Bowman office staff that I drive my son to school in the mornings, so I needed to meet with the repairman and then leave shortly after 7:30 am. He did not arrive at 7:30 am as promised. At 7:40 am I phoned the office and was told the repairman was on his way – I explained that I had to leave but would arrange for him to access the house and could be reached by cell phone. At no time during the day was I told this would be a 7 or 8 hour job. I realize the job ended up involving more than simply hooking up the dryer – that was why I employed HL Bowman to assist. When I made the appointment I had explained that the company who delivered the dryer was supposed to do the hook up but could not, because it involved removing some drywall. I spoke to three separate contractors and explained this job, including the drywall removal to them, in order to get estimates of the time this should have taken. Here are the results: Contractor 1 – small local contractor –about 2 hours, no more than $200 Contractor 2 – medium sized local firm – 2 to 3 hours max Contractor 3 – single handyman, local – 3 to 4 hours I took the average of these estimates, which is 3 hours, in deciding what “fair payment”should be. That would be 3 X $72. = $216. While I am stymied as to why a $40 travel charge was added for a local job, I included that in my total owed. Parts - $132.50 Travel Charge - $ 40.00 3 Hrs Labor - $216.00 Total = $388.50 I ended up paying that amount and have never done business with this firm again. If you use them, make sure you get a written estimate and never assume a small job will end up being small or that they will let you know ahead of time.

The overall experience was great and I would not hesitate to recommend them to family and friends!

Did a pretty good job, only had one problem where guy slipped and cracked ceiling. I did not have to pay anything for them to repair ceiling. Overall I was very satisfied with their work.

They responded in a timely manner. Work was quoted at a reasonable price. They installed the water heater quickly. They were very courteous. 10 days later some gas leaks were discovered. We called them for the emergency at 8:30 am and they never responded until 3 hours. They were not responsive to an emergency situation.

There is not much to tell other than it was a no nonsense deal. They told me up front the costs per time that they would spend on the job. My son was home at the time. They told him the best case and worst case scenario. In the end everything was exactly what they said. I believe the price is very reasonable. They are honest will get done what you need done. I paid over the phone. The lady in the office was very customer oriented and very nice. Give her a raise guys....maybe she owns the company? I was very pleased and will call on them again. I called late in the afternoon Monday and they were there Tuesday morning.

Prompt and knowledgeable info. Very quick appoint for service. Skilled installation despite heavy and large water heater installed in basement. Helpful recommendation about A/C.

They were honest and didn't try to just sell me anything that was more expensive or anything I didn't need.. I was very happy with their company.

I almost used HL Bowman's services previously, only to have discovered how to resolve my hot-water issue on my own. Due to the responsiveness, cooperation, and flexibility of the office, I decided simply from initial correspondence that this would be the company I would work with for any plumbing related service I would require. I came home to use the downstairs bathroom when I noticed the toilet was filled with warm shower-water. My wife was taking a shower at the time. Within minutes the toilet began to back-flow into the living room. I called HL Bowman, explained my situation, and within an hour, Tony was ringing my doorbell. He introduced himself, I explained the situation, and within 3-5 minutes he had a handle on what the problem was, where the sewer accesses were, and how to fix the issue. It was a "simple" snaking that unclogged the pipes. All the while, Tony engaged in friendly conversation, explained the issue and what the probable causes were (1-the house sat for quite some time before being sold; we just purchased it a month ago and 2-when the sewer piping was replaced, it wasn't replaced entirely to the sewer--instead the piping was replaced up to the road, as it would likely be an expensive complete replacement, and apparently where there is a connection between an older set of piping and a newer set, there tends to be build-ups that can lead to clogs). Within 30 minutes of arriving, Tony had completed his resolve and was certain to verify by flushing every toilet in the house twice ensuring that water was draining freely to the sewer. HL Bowman also accepted the Angie's List coupon for first time customers even though this was an emergency, and the pricing was far below what I had expected for the short notice and use of a sewer snake. Awesome service; I will call HL Bowman for all of my plumbing needs!

Everybody should do business like this. Polite, prompt and proficient. Tony came at the right time and worked, even while answering my questions. Everything that he worked on, now works perfectly and he even gave us a little advice on how to avoid a clogged line in the future. When I need a plumber in the future, I'm definitely calling this company.

This was one of the best experiences with a contractor I have had in years. The company was very responsive when I called and the gentleman that came out was very professional and knew exactly what the problem was. He spent a couple of hours fixing the problem and I could just hear dollar signs clicking away but the work had to be done so I steeled myself. I was very pleasantly surprised at the final price and 7 months later I can safely say the problem has been fixed! I would highly recommend this company to anyone.

I called due to a hot water issue that I was having with our showers. A friend helped to advise us on the fix, which was able to be performed by myself. However, before we found the resolve, I contacted HL Bowman Inc to set up a service call. I was told what the charges would be up front. They were very courteous and professional. I was also accommodated very well--I have a very busy schedule and they were able to accommodate me for a service the next day, which is what I requested. When I had found out about the potential fix, while I was still not at home, I contacted HL Bowman to find out what their cancellation policy would look like. I did not want to cancel at the time, as I wasn't certain that my fix would work. I was advised that as long as they were made aware of our cancellation prior to leaving for the service call at my home, then there would be no penalties. Because I get home later from work then their business hours, I was simply instructed to leave a voicemail in regards to whether or not I would require the service to be performed. I had a follow up voicemail from HL Bowman prior to leaving work stating that if I still required the service call, they could accommodate me as early as 730AM! Instructions remained on how to leave a voicemail to cancel or confirm service. Luckily I was able to correct the problem myself, and left the appropriate voicemail. How convenient and accommodating! In the future, should I have any plumbing needs, I will be calling HL Bowman first!
