Originally, they charged me $1,150 to replace a 24V transformer and a contactor because my AC would not run. I thought it was some major repair because a top quality new AC unit such as from Trane installed is less than $5000. My wife was home at the time, and she wanted AC so I had to pay. When I came home and looked at the parts, I knew I was ripped off. I called another company and they said that they would charge between $50 to $70 for both parts and $90 for labor including the dispatch fee for a total of about $160 maximum. I called Horizon to complain. They refunded me $400. About a week later, the AC broke down again. When another tech from Horizon came out, he said that it was the circuit board. That would cost me $700. He was going to get back with me because he could not figure out the model of my old Trane unit. I never heard back from him. I called Horizon got no answer back from them. I called another company. They traced the problem to a bad wire and replaced the wire for $180. I did not need a $700 circuit board. I complained that they charged me too much for what they did, but one of their managers, Joe, said that their charges are only average for the industry, and they would not refund me anymore. It seems to me that Horizon is not interested in fixing equipment. All their technicians just want to sell you equipment. They seem to get more training in sales than repair. I have bought a new AC Trane unit from Horizon for my parents's house, so I will call Horizon for any warranty related issues. Other than that, I will never use Horizon again. When I replace my AC and furnace units, I will not even call Horizon for an estimate.

Since they were not able to get a tech out until Wednesday, I was forced to contact another more local HVAC contractor. The one I called on Saturday morning was at my house within the hour, found the issue, and had us up and running that same day. When I contacted Horizon back to cancel my emergency appointment, they inquired why. I let them know that 3-4 days was unacceptable for emergency service to which they simply said "sorry" and hung up promptly. It wasnt until later that day when others had told me about the similar issues they have experienced with Horizon. I am now in the market to replace the AC and heater, and I will not be contacting Horizon.
Description of Work: AC unit froze up during the hot days. Contacted Horizon on Friday evening for emergency service, only to find out that they could not get a tech out until Wednesday (and there would be a minimum charge of $89.00 just to come out).

The technician arrived on time. Covered his shoes in booties to protect our floors and rugs. Check the problem, gave a quote on the job to be done and got to work. Kept working on the problem until the drain was cleared. He cleaned up after the job was finished and left. Will definitely use this plumber if needed in the future.

This company will get straight A's. It's 10:15 AM when they came out and didn't leave till after 5:00 PM it was a whole one day. First the sales rep came out and talked to me. He was here for about two hours to describe everything that they were going to do in details and they did it.

What a nightmare, they will come on time and will be very professional, that's the hook. To make a long story short, I was told my A/C could be charge up for $500.00 but they should fix the leak for $2000.00. Watch out for the laminated book. I declined. Shortly after a friend referred me to someone that checked the A/C said it was 1/2 the pressure it should be and charged the system up for less than $300.00. It's been working fine since. That's a $2200.00 savings, now I can take a vacation. They have no integrity in my opinion. Get a 2nd opinion.T

The representative appeared right on time, making the trip to my house in South Jersey from Horizon's office in Wilmington. Horizon provided a quote for a "Through wall sewer line repair". The representative said it should be a 2-man crew for one day. The price, pulled out of a laminated book, was $4800. I pointed out that this came to $300 per hour which seemed high. He could only shrug his shoulders. I got a bit of pressure; If I agreed to take his price immediately, he could do the work right away, otherwise he didn't know when he could schedule me. He also offfered me a small discount (I think maybe $200 off) based on some excuse that I no longer recall. A few hours later I realized that I needed a bigger repair, and I asked Horizon for an new quote. They were unable/unwilling to provide a quote until I told them what my other quotes were. In my opinion, that's not how competitive bidding is supposed to work. (After I get Horizon's price, am I supposed to call the other plumbers back and tell them Horizon's price?) I did not call Horizon back. I ended up choosing a different plumber, and I did NOT choose the lowest bid. I choose based on which guy had the best reviews, and who could start the soonest. I would use this service provider in the future, but I'd be sure to get a competitive quote from someone else before I called them.

HORRIBLE - DO NOT USE!!! Horizon came out to repair our Trane A/C last Friday. The said the coil is leaking and may need replaced - they recharged the freon for $469 and added a $99 service plan and said that should last for a while. It lasted one day... They came out on Monday and said the coil definitely needs replaced, for $2K... They recommended I just buy a whole new A/C system for $5K to $6K... I called Trane and found that the repair is covered under warranty... Parts are covered, labor is not. So, I called Horizon back and asked them to do the repair under warranty... They said it would be $2K! I asked why, and they said this was just for the labor... So I asked how long the job would take, and they said 4 hours.... That's $500 per hour! So, I then asked if the $568 I paid on Friday would apply toward this repair and they said no... It was the service manager I spoke with, and he was very rude. Don't bother with this company...

WATER TO THE TOILET WOULD NOT STOP RUNNING. CALLED HORIZON ON MONDAY AM. SPOKE TO A CUSTOMER SERVICE REP, WHO SEEMED HELPFUL, EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM AND SHE PUT ME IN CONTACT WITH A SCHEDULER. WAS TOLD A SERVICE PERSON WOULD BE OUT BETWEEN 12 AND 4. NO ONE CALLED. CALLED BACK ABOUT 500P.M. AND WAS TOLD THEY HAD NO RECORD OF MY PROBLEM AND COULD NOT COME OUT UNTIL THE NEXT DAY BETWEEN 2 AND 4P.M.. HAD NO CHOICE AT THAT POINT. RECEIVED A CALL THE NEXT DAY AROUND 12 NOON FROM A SCHEDULER WHO SAID THAT THEY HAD AN EMERGENCY AND COULD NOT MAKE IT THAT DAY AND WOULD HAVE TO RESCHEDULE FOR WED. I TOLD THEM MY PROBLEM WAS AN EMERGENCY ALSO. THEY SAID SOMEONE WOULD CALL BACK. A SCHEDULER DID CALL BACK AND SAID THEY WOULD BE OUT ON TUES. BETWEEN 4 AND 8. TWO SERVICE REPAIRMAN SHOWED UP ABOUT 5 P.M. AND PROCEEDED TO WORK ON THE TOILET AND INSTALLING A NEW CUTOFF VALVE. WERE THERE FOR LESS THAN 45 MINUTES AND CHARGED $560 DOLLARS. GUESS WHAT 2 FLUSHES LATER AND THE TOILET WAS DOING THE SAME THING. CALLED BACK AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD SEND SOMEBODY OUT THE NEXT DAY, WED.. A SINGLE REPAIRMAN ARRIVED THE NEXT DAY AND SAID THAT THE ORIGINAL REPAIR HAD BEEN DONE IMPROPERLY. We were having a problem with our water heater. The technician after examining our water heater for less than five minutes informed me we needed a new water heater. He quoted me a price of over $2,000. My husband had a couple of questions so I had the technician speak to my husband over the phone. While talking to my husband, he came down almost a $1,000 in his quote. I had a different company come out for a second opinion and found out we did not need a new water heater, only a small part. The repair cost less than $150.00.0

The price quoted for the check-up seemed quite reasonable. However, citing the possibility of a failure, the technician persuaded me to authorize the replacement of two capacitors in the indoor unit. The charge for the two capacitors was $256, which I believe was way too much. He was there alone for no longer than three minutes which I thought was an awfully short time to replace the parts. After the tech left, I opened the unit and ran my finger across the top of one of the capacitors. It was dusty which makes me wonder if he actually replaced it. Also, as the tech was preparing to leave, I asked him if he could have someone call me with a firm price for replacing an outdoor spigot that doesn't work. He became quite argumentative as to why nobody could do that without first coming out and looking over the problem. I said that there is nothing complicated about doing a direct replacement of a spigot, but he still insisted that the company couldn't quote a price for the job first. I came away with the distinct impression that this company wants to get their foot in the door and then quote a large price, and the customer will go along because he is already into paying for the service call even if he turns down the price for the repair. I will not use this company again.

We really like them. It is a pretty large corporation out of Delaware. They are very clean and professional. They put paper slippers on before they even come in your house. The guys are very professional and they are very well dressed. They are well qualified and well trained. They are scheduled to come again today to replace some sink and drain stuff. Their trucks are fully loaded with all the equipment they might need so they don't have to run back to the store. They are also all drug tested and background checked, so you can feel comfortable about who is coming in to your house. The price is decent. The only caveat I would say is, they are a corporation, corporations have policies, and they do a little bit of selling. They don't sell things that you don't need, but they do say "It is time to replace this," or "It is time to replace that." You don't have to do it now, but in so many years - they don't do a scare thing but they do try to promote more business. But my husband says they do the job right the first time. They will promote the very best and you can choose - say my hot water heater is so many years old, I'm going to let it live a little longer, I'm not going to replace it. They will make recommendations. I think they aren't any more expensive than any other plumber: you could be paying somebody for more time because they aren't as efficient. I think they have 24 hour dispatchers.

We had water backing up into our downstairs bathroom sink from upstairs tub and downstairs kitchen sinks. Of course it would happen on Memorial Day weekend! We called Horizon and got an appt time for within 48 hours. However, because they had a cancellation they called us back and they came in less than 24 hours. Problem was found with relative ease and technician eased our worries. Only problem came when we came to pay. We had the Angies List coupon for a plumbing visit ready and tech said he could not take it...it didn't apply to drain cleaning. Luckily I had a coupon from a previous Horizon flyer that specifically said Drain Cleaning so that worked. So that coupon is misleading. Aside from that, our experience was very satisfactory and relieving.

I found them on Angie's List. They were fine. We haven't had any problems. With regard to price, my husband was fine with it so I don’t think it was a little high. The price was reasonable and fair. They are very nice, and their customer service is good. The technicians that come out know what they are doing. They are very friendly, and they explain everything. My husband shadowed the guy when he was doing whatever he was doing. The guy was so good. He told my husband to give his name and then we can ask for him to come back out for this year. Unfortunately, the guy doesn’t work there anymore, so we will have to see how this other one is. They are all around good. Time wise, we had some problems as far as the timing that they come out. I told them between 8 and 12 and 12 and 4. They would want to change it, and we wouldn’t be able to. But once they came out, everything was fine. It wasn’t anything broken, so it wasn’t like we had to worry about anything like that. With regard to price, I am not sure what the best is, but I know that my husband would complain if it wasn’t good. With regard to quality, we haven't had a problem at all since they have been out here. So they do a good job. The air conditioner runs well and everything is fine. With regard to punctuality, they are here before the time is out. They are actually coming out next week in June to do their maintenance.

Horizon responded to our call immediately ... a service man was dispatched and the problem was fixed within an hour.

The professional who came for the consultation was very prompt, courteous and explained things very well. He took a lot of time explaining things to me and was good at explaining things in a way a lay person could understand. However, I received the "hard sell" so that I could take advantage of April coupons and other deals. Though I wasn't ready to commit that day, he was very kind and agreed to fill out pw as if we agreed to do it so that he wouldn't have to come and take my time to get it signed before the end of April. In the meantime, I contacted another company at a friend's recommendation to do a comparison quote. I was informed that the replacement of the capacitor would cost 2/3 the cost than with Horizon. I was also uneasy about the fact that Horizon only had one option of one AC and one heater that worked for my home. They would not sell any other brand and I could not find any positive reviews of the equipment online. So I decided to hold off on both replacement of the system and the capacitor, but will use another company to replace the capacitor, as it will cost significantly less, despite having a service contract and 15% discount with Horizon. Each time I called with more questions before committing he was very good about finding answers and getting back to me. He was very pleasant about the whole thing. The up side is that they gave me no trouble about canceling the intended contract and
Description of Work: I have a contract with Horizon for my heating and cooling. I had my seasonal AC check and was told I needed a new capacitor. The service man was courteous, seemed thorough and was very polite. He suggested that I contact the company for an evaluation of the system since it is 12 years old and builder grade to do a cost-benefit analysis of fixing vs replacing. I had the in-home consultation and almost purchased a new heating/cooling system.

It went well. Fair price, with their coupon it was two services for one. They were on time and very professional, including putting on little booties when entering my home. Employee was efficient and detailed with explaining what he was doing.

The tech seemed very thorough and pleasant, wore the shoe covers to protect the floors. Recommendations for service were deferred as I want to see what the recommendation will be from the Comfort Advisor.
Description of Work: This was a scheduled AC service check, part of the Gold service agreement from last year and it provide 15% off any services needed/done. A/c was turned on and unit was checked inside and outside at the unit itself and indicated that my unit was 17 yrs old. To date, we really haven't had any issues with the a/c. The tech was very profressional, on-time . 3 recommendations were provided for to replace a contactor, dual capacitor and replace the service disconnect b/c it was currently welded- the rate being $891 for service for all 3. That price was the 15% off price. The second option for an appt for the Comfort Advisor to quote a price for replacement of equipment. It's my understanding it's sort of like a check to see how efficient the system is. I made the appt to hear what a quote would be and was informed if I decided to go with option 1, that I could make an appt then. I did renew the Gold service plan at $198 for another year.

After calling a few other plumbers who were not able to provide emergency service within 48 hours, I called Horizon. Customer service person was helpful and pleasant. Follow-up call was promised within a hour; I rec'd a call back within 30 minutes. A plumber, Mike, was in the area finishing another job and he would stop by. Price quoted for the problem was a reasonable $129. Mike arrived within an hour, got right to the problem, after setting up clothes and papewr to minimize dirtyinh up the kitchen. Problem was resolved within an hour. He noticed some other issues in the kitchen and made note of them. Not pushy at all...simply observant and helpful. Mike had a very professional and friendly attitude. Paid quoted price of $129 and the water's running through again. Problem was fully resolved within 3 hours of the initial call. What else can be hpoed for? From start to finsih, a great job by all Horizon hands involved. Woudl definitely use these folks again!
