I hired Horizon once before when I first became a homeowner. I bought their $89 furnace maintenance special. They took one look at my not too old, well working furnace, presented me with some "readings", then scared the living daylights out of me by declaring my house a total CO deathtrap and that I was glad that me and my children were still alive, it was that bad. They wouldn't even touch my furnace, nor stay in my house, made me sign a "aware of the life-threatening risk" waiver and switched off the main, leaving us in the cold in the middle of January. They told me that I needed a new furnace immediately and if I wanted to survive the night without dying of CO poisoning, I should never, ever switch my old unit on again. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, and since it was freezing cold and I had no heat, I went for their new furnace, and was talked into investing into a $7500 unit by a very pushy sales person. Fast forward 5 years: I moved to a new house. I purchased the $89 furnace maintenance special. They took one look at my old, however very well working furnace, presented me with some "readings" from inside the flue, then scared the living daylights out of me by declaring my furnace a CO deathtrap. They wouldn't even touch my furnace, I got no maintenance for my $89, just had to sign an "aware of the life-threatening risk" waiver and switch off the main. Notice something? I switched the main back on as soon as Horizon was gone. I consulted with a professional heating contractor who told me not to panic. He came to my house, took a reading in my basement, detected not a hint of CO, told me to go to the Home Depot immediately and stock up on 3 CO alarms, one for each floor, and take a deep breath. He also said some extremely unpleasant things about Horizon's sales practices.... Fast forward 1 year: My "deathtrap" furnace is providing regular, efficient, affordable heat every day and just made it through the winter of a century without any issues whatsoever. And this without even being serviced and cleaned last year, because Horizon refused to do the job. Just had another expert do a CO reading today. Zero CO in my basement, as was to be expected. Horizon had the cheek to call me to schedule my second year appointment (after they refused to service the unit last year, but kept my money). When I told the representative of my experiences, and what I thought of their sales practices to systematically scare innocent people into purchasing their overpriced systems, she didn't even flinch and just said "I guess you do not want the appointment, then? Have a nice day..." I would not have written this review because I like to be careful, however, I have heard my exact same story repeated by just too many people by now. My 87 year old neighbor being one of them.

Horizons sold me a defective furnace, blamed it on the Hepa filtration system, took the Hepa system back and credited me less than 10%, and later they found that it was not the Hepa system, figured out it was a factory defect (unrelated to Hepa) Repaired the actual factory defect, and would not return calls or talk to me about replacing the new Hepa system I had already purchased. I now have a huge gap where the filter should go. Not very satisfied.
Description of Work: They sold me a defective furnace, wouldn't speak to me on the phone regarding the filtration system, or getting a new one at cost.

Called to make and appointment which they missed the first time The wrote down the wrong phone and street number the next day the service tech Dave called me because he couldn?t find my location. Then he quoted me"about" 1000.00 for pluming work that would take 2-3 hours at the most. Clearly their houry rates is three time the price of an auto mechanic, go figure

After they installed it, two days later, my husband went to use it and the hose that carries the waste came apart and our newly remodeled bathroom was a disaster. We had someone come out twice after this experience and it kept happening. Several plumbers later, we were told to use a zip tie to hold the pipe to the toilet. It then would not flush and was humming. When someone came to look at it, no answers were given. We called several times to have someone come out and we were denied service and were blamed for the problems. When they finally sent someone out, all he did was tap and jiggle the toilet, and said it was fixed. We don't know why they wouldn't just replace the pump. They were so rude to my husband and we would hate to see anyone else get burned like we did.

It went quickly but to be honest I am not sure what I paid for because all he could tell me is that I need them to come back to check my heating and that I will need other repairs??? Really now?? I thought that what I paid for was for them to completely check the system and if there was a problem then fix it, why do I have to call them again to pay them again to diagnose a problem? So what was the $89 for?? He also came very late so it was too dark to even complete the inspection.

They could not clear my drain in 20 minutes. They then advised they would have to cut the pipes and that could cost up to $800. I told them I didn't think they had committed sufficient time or energy to clearing the drain so I would not pay. The guarantee said $99 and now they were giving up and preparing to charge me extra. I sent them home and called another plumber who could clear the clog in my kitchen drain without cutting a pipe.

The Horizon crew arrived on time and introduced themselves. They quickly removed the old hot water heater and installed the new unit without a hitch. Mark, the "site technician", answered all of our questions, both during the first consultation as well as the install. Horizon's prices were fair and competitive. I had Horizon provide preventative maintenance on my heat pump 2 times in spring and fall. They signed me up for their service contract, In feb when my unit stopped working, I called for service. I was informed that the service contract was only for the air conditioner side , not the heating side. I asked them to cancel my service contract since I only had a heat pump, and to issue me a refund. They said they would pass it on, I have not heard any response yet as to the status of my refund. I called another heating service company, and they had to replace a capacitor that was installed months earlier, by Horizon. Bad replacement parts, misleading, false advertising

I have always used Horizon to service and maintain my central air and oil furnace. For several years the technicians have always "suggested" that I convert from oil to gas (after all I have a gas stove), and the conversion would be easy for me. I declined, due to the fact that it wasn't in my budget and why fix what was not broken. Well, in November 2013 when I scheduled my annual oil furnace tune-up, a part broke, which would cost about $350 to replace. I was advised and I also read in online that the time to convert or replace a furnace is when they start getting into costly repairs. Also, I have 7 more years until I retire, so I figure now is the time to get this done while I am still working. So, I gave in an converted from oil to gas. It was great! It was done all in one day. When I returned home from work that day, my house was warm and cozy and by basement was clean and well organized. I must say that in 2011, Horizon did come to my home to gave me an estimate for the oil, and at that time the price was about $2K higher and the APR was outrageous. Two years later the price came down and the APR I received is less than 10%. I am pleased. Perhaps another company is less expensive, but I trust Horizon. I have NEVER had any problems with Horizon (knock on wood).

Both units were installed on the same day. The techs arrived promptly and stayed until both units were installed, the attic unit taking until 9 pm. They return and service every year. No problems with the products at all. They certainly aren't the cheapest but I feel very comfortable with the choice. Techs are as the ads state- clean, respectful, and nice.
Description of Work: Had a leak in my ceiling that I thought was from an upstairs bathroom. Turns out I needed a new air conditioner for upstairs. As both upstairs and downstairs were the originals (1964?)we had both done at the same time.

We have used them before and trusted the name, and they lived up to our expectations. I called Horizon Services because my heater ceased working, the tech should up early so I was happy about that. The tech checked the unit and went over it with his volt meter. He determined the transformer was bad and needed to be replaced. I was quoted 614$ for them to replace the part plus the service charge. If I signed up for the Service Partner plan they would waive the Service charge and the cost to replace the transformer would only cost 513$ + 99 for the Service Partner Plan. At this point it was a friday and no one else could make it out till the following day or later so I decided to go ahead and have them replace the transformer. The transformer was quickly replaced and wired in, the tech switched the circuit breaker on (the one in the air exchanger) and everything fired up. At that time we noticed a crackle noise coming from the circuit breaker. The tech then stated I needed to get that replaced as well, it was going to cost another 600$ for the heater kit. At that time I declined the service as I was going to get my normal HVAC guy to look into when he got back into town. So I paid and the tech left. Later I decided to look up the part the tech put in place. To my surprise the part can be purchased from my local hardware store for $31. So I Called to find out about the price and to determine what part of the service cost so much. I finally heard back from a manager the following monday and she stated its flat rate pricing and it is non-negotiable, I was told I would get $99 back for the service partner plan. So I wasnt really happy but was going to be happy with getting $99 back and learning a life lesson. Well I get home Monday night and the heater was off again. I thought maybe I tripped the circuit breaker on the transformer the tech installed, but that was fine. I checked the breaker that we identified as being bad and found if I pushed it the unit kicked on, when I let go it kicked off. So I was able to push it a certain way and the heater would kick on and stay on, but this got me thinking, maybe the transformer wasnt bad to begin with. So I grabbed the old transformer and my volt meter and started testing it. Everything tested fine, so I Called my HVAC guy and he agreed with my findings. I called a local electrician and he also agreed with my findings. So at this time I ordered the defective circuit breaker replacement and placed a call into Horizon to talk to a manager again. On Friday I still have not heard back from Horizon and my circuit breaker came in so I went down and wired in the new breaker and also reconnected the old transformer, the one they said was bad and charged 564.50$ to replace. Turned the main breaker back on and everything is working fine. So not only did they misdiagnose the problem, they replaced the wrong part and did not fix the original problem. I Called Horizon back Friday night only to be told there are not managers at night or on the weekend and then the girl answering the phone refused to give me her name and hung up on me. 2/18/14 - Still have not heard back from Horizon, Also the screwdriver the tech took from my house has NOT been returned. 2/18/14 PM - Finally heard back from a manager at Horizon and they agreed to a full refund.
Description of Work: Horizon misdiagnosed the problem and replaced a part that wasn't even defective and didn't even fix the problem. They now appear to be ignoring me.

I guess their guys are trained to sell. The last time they came out, they told me that I really needed a new heater so when I have to have the heater put in, I have to have a new air conditioning unit put in at the same time. They showed up when they were supposed to show up. Everything was clean. Everything was put in. They didn't tell me though at that time the particular heater that they put in for me. It cost $90.00 for one filter because it's one those great big wide filters so instead of letting them replace it when they come after my contract and then check my heater and all, I got it from Home Depot the same one for $35.00 so they put that in after I paid all the money. For my heater and air conditioning unit, I probably paid about $13,000.00 to $14,000.00 for it. People told me I got robbed. I paid way too much. They are so overpriced. I still have a 10-year contract with them because of the heater and air conditioning. I'd never recommend that company. They're just too overpriced. However, the technicians who came out were friendly, very courteous and they put their little booties on when they come in. They were pretty punctual.

They were very good actually. They're not cheap but they're very responsive. They communicate with us. If they'll be late, they tell me. They're very professional. They give me an estimate beforehand. They have a very professional staff. I would use them in the future.

UPDATE: In spite of the shady high pressure sales tactics, my furnace is running better since the service. So it appears they did a good job. I will not work with them again, but at least they didn't break my furnace. Original Comments: We contacted Horizon based on a coupon we received by mail for a "21 point system inspection". We told them when we made the appointment that our heating system was making a strange sound. They stated that they might have to do a repair, in which case the 79 dollar service wouldn't be performed, but they would honor a discount coupon for the service. We said that sounded good. Technician showed up, disassembled the system, made multiple comments to my wife about the system not working again more than likely. Note that I was on a business trip, and not home. She called me, and I spoke to the technician, and he did his best to scare me that the system is ready to go (which I am sure it is, no dispute there), and stated that it might not work when he put it back together. He actually said to me on the phone, "I didn't see this working when I showed up, so I can't guarantee that it will work when I put it back together." Now I don't dispute my heater is old and probably won't last another season, but it's been loud and crappy for almost a year, but working fine. I was in fact looking for someone to replace my heating system, but his tactics and tone were so revolting, I was concerned. I explained that the heater was working perfectly fine when he arrived, as he could tell considering the house was warm, and that I expected it to be back in full working order when he was done. He then got defensive, quickly put it back together, and left. We agreed to a visit from a salesperson, which we promptly cancelled. I was concerned that he would sabotage the system based on the comments he was making. Then, not surprisingly, he refused to honor the coupon which was agreed to for the service when we made the appointment. My wife called to complain, and they said they would call her back. Never happened. We called and cancelled our appointment to have someone assess our system for replacement. This is not a trustworthy company,and I would recommend you look elsewhere.
Description of Work: Showed up, took apart our heater, threatened us that it might not work when he put it back together, and that he didn't see it running when he showed up. Refused to honor coupons that the company agreed to honor when we made our service appointment. Spent the whole "repair" attempting to push us to get a new heater for 6 to 9 grand (overpriced).

They also did maintenance on our heating unit this past October. They are very good. They are nice and everyone who has come out has been very efficient.
Description of Work: A motor in the air conditioning unit was burnt out and they replaced it. They are going to come back out to do a spring cleaning as well.
