Wheeler Construction

Based on the mostly positive reviews and ignoring the two negative ones, we hired Mr Wheeler to sand and refinish the floor and redo the baseboard molding. He was friendly and encouraging. Until several days into the job when my wife pointed out some spots that did not look right. He then became petulant, argued that he was going "above and beyond and all you do is criticize," and walked out of the house. He wanted to charge us $800 more than the agreed on price because the job took two days longer than he thought it would. There is a part of the baseboard molding left undone and bare and there are a number of spots especially near the corners and doors poorly finished (if I can add photos, I will). The floor in a number of places is rougher than before and looking closer it looks like beads of polyurethane. He said he would come back on 'a Saturday' to finish but he has not. He also damaged the coffee table and the hutch while moving them in his truck and would not at first acknowledge that the moving caused the damage. He has not returned our phone message asking when he intends to come back and it has been 3 weeks so we don't expect him back (unfortunately and apparently unwisely we paid the bill). So we have to pay a furniture restorer to repair the damaged pieces and we need a carpenter to finish the baseboard molding and fix the sections that are poorly done. He will no doubt have a problem with this report and if he will come back and finish the job, I'll be glad to report that.

Great work on some really tough floors. The floors were old with a lot of nail holes and other damage. There was also some oak mixed in with the pine. When completed you could hardly believe what they started with. With a darker stain the mixed wood blended nicely too.

Shawn has an unbelievable work ethic! Everything was done as discussed when he gave us an estimate and more he even cleaned the dust off the walls etc when the job was completed. If you don't use Shawn your not getting the best job. Our floors look gorgeous!!!!

Shawn was great to work with and our floors look great. He explained each step so we knew what he was doing and he took great care to keep things as neat as possible at the end of the day.

I've been resorting/ renovating high end buildings for 40yrs. Of the 40+ sub contractors I've used, Shawn's work, knowledge,and work ethics is one of the few to earn A+. I can honestly say you will not find a better more honest worker anywhere. The bonus is, the work is exceptional.

Shawn did an amazing job with our floors!!! At the time, I was living in Detroit so he worked with my husband to ensure that the floors looked amazing and that I could have an opportunity to choose the stain. Shawn was able to complete our entire house (3 bedrooms, family room, dining room, entry way, stairs, and upstairs hallway) in a week! His pricing was very reasonable and he even gave us a discount when he forgot to include the cost of one room. Shawn left us with extra stain and also showed my husband how to touch up any areas if we get any scratches.

We have an old home built just before the Civil War and have done a lot of upgrades/add-ons. Shawn put in new Hardwood floors in our entire downstairs...starting with unfinished wood thru to a gorgeous finished, poly'd floor...when 2 other flooring companies said 'it couldn't be done'. He even refinished the small patch of hardwood we already had to match...perfectly. He's the Best craftsman that's worked on our home in the 19 yrs we've lived there. He truly cares how his customers feel about his work. You should add a couple more stars to your rating options for people like this.

Shawn did an excellent job making the hardwood floors in our house look amazing. He handled the sanding and staining process with excellent craftsmanship and professionalism. His pricing was fair and we feel we got great bang for our buck. The dining room, living room, three bedrooms and stairs were a big project and Shawn handled it all very well. Would recommend to anyone in the Pittsburgh area.

If you plan to refinish your hardwood floors, Shawn is your man. He not only did a fine job, but also paid attention to details. He is easy to talk to and offers suggestions that were incorporated into the project. His price was competitive and we know that we will hire him for again.

Wheeler Construction did not attempt to sale me more than I needed. I had some deep scratches and some water discloration on my hardwood and I thought I was going to have to spend thousand redoing them. He came in looked at everything and told me my options. I wasnt home he took care of everything. Solid team at Wheeler.

We hired Shawn based on Home Advisor reviews. When he gave us an estimate, he said he prided himself with not leaving a project until his customers were satisfied. That seemed re-assuring and hired him to re-finish our floors and put in new stained/polyurethaned door casings and baseboard molding. As it turns out, his work was very sloppy. He created "waves" in our dining and living rooms. When I mentioned my displeasure, he used the excuse that he didn't want to sand down too much. After putting on 2 coats of water-based polyurethane, I was very displeased with the result. many spots were missed, especially along edges. He re-coated-at my request-using oil-based product. Outcome was still sloppy. In he meantime, he put in stained/polyurethaned moldings. Construction was good. However, he put in many pieces that did not dry, making a mess of excess/dripped stain on walls just above the baseboard that, now, need to be re-painted. After putting on 2nd coat of the oil-based product, he, literally just walked out the door, something I didn't realize until his truck was gone. So much for not leaving a project until his customers were satisfied. We decided to have new estimates by 2 floor specialists. Both commented on the sloppy result. In addition, both prices were $400-500 lower than Shawn. So, now we are out $3500. It's hard to believe other reviews were so good. I would NOT recommend him to do any floor refinishing.

Terrific! Mr. Wheeler explained the problem how he would replace the broken and worn floor boards and OVER delivered. Wood stain match was perfect!

Mr. Wheeler is a very hard worker. He did everything he could to meet our expectations. And best of all he was the most reasonably priced, with no hidden costs, or surprise extra work slips. This is very important to anyone on an fixed income. The floor looks great as do the steps. As someone who has been in the business for over 50 years I would highly recommend him to friends and family. I plan to have him return to do more work for me in the Spring.

We live in Mt. Lebanon and initially contacted Shawn for a strictly repair job. I was going to do the rest of the refurbishing of our hardwood floors. After speaking with Shawn however, it was very clear that he knew exactly what he was doing. A true professional, we are so happy that we decided to go with Shawn for the complete refurbishing of our steps/hallway floor. He even took the time to install completely new risers which we DID NOT EVEN ASK FOR. He has been a true professional in every sense of the word since hired.
