I really liked dealing with Eric. I first talked to him over the phone to get a ball park estimate. When we decided to buy the insert, we made an appointment for All Fuel to estimate the installation. We were able to make the appointment within a few days. Eric arrived on time, he was very informative and listened to what I thought. He provided an estimate that was less than another company. We set an install date based on when the store said the parts would be in. The store screwed up and the insert was not in on the day of the appointment. Eric still kept the appointment, arriving at the promised time, he explained the situation and went ahead with the preliminary install of the cap, tubes, gas piping, electric work and arranged for the city inspector. What I really liked was that they covered the carpet and cleaned up everything and Eric explained everything they were doing and asked how I wanted things done. He even explained what the electrician was going to do. After the parts came in we made another appointment for the insert to be installed. This time was for late afternoon and Eric ran into issues that day that made him very late (thus the little ding on puntuality). Still I was okay with the late time because Eric called to say he was going to be late and updated me a couple of times as to when he would arrive. I was also impressed that even though it was after 6 pm they still came on the day of the appointment and did get the unit installed. It was obvious that they had lots of experience doing these type of installs and the process went smoothly. Again Eric was very informative about what they were doing and explained how the stove worked and how to use the remote. A few days later during a rain storm we heard water dripping onto the insert. It was late Friday afternoon and I didn't think anyone would answer. We called and Eric answered the phone and said he would be out early the next day (Saturday!). A little while later he called back and said he was on his way - he didn't want the rain to keep coming in. Here again he was here after hours, this time on Friday night. He knew what was wrong right away and fixed the problem quickly. We had to make another appointment to put the doors on. All Fuel arrived on time and installed the doors in a short amount of time and everything looks good and works well. All Fuel, and especially Eric, did a really good job and I would recommend them to anyone. Eric really knows his stuff and is quite informative. He laid out the plan and they performed the install exactly as planned. The store where we bought the insert (not All Fuel) caused some delays and Eric rolled with these and still got things done. He even came back to put the doors on at no extra charge.
Description of Work: All Fuel installed a gas fireplace insert. They removed the existing woodstove insert, chimney liner and cap. They moved these items into the garage for me to sell later. They installed the new chimney cap, air intake and exhaust tubes. They drilled through the brick chimney and piped the gas line from the meter, into the firplace. They also arranged for an electrcian to arrive the same day and install an electric outlet box into the back of the existing brick fireplace. They cleaned up all the areas where they worked and even the garage where they placed the old items. Eric arranged for the city inspector to arrive the next day. All fuel picked up the insert and supplies at the store. They delivered the items and installed the fireplace insert. They hooked up the gas line and the air and exhaust tubes, and electricity. They set the insert in place and installed the surround piece. They tested the function and trained us on how to use the fireplace and the remote control. They hauled off all of the packaging and debris. The doors were special ordered and did not arrive with the insert, so All Fuel made another trip and installed the front doors - completing the installation. Again they went over the function with us and made sure we knew how to use the insert.

All Fuel was very professional in their work. But ultimately, the fireplace problem was not solved. I have paid for thermopyle replacement, and then I am asked to change the control valve. If the issue was troubleshot properly in the beginning, I feel I would have paid less overall. It is not clear to me even if the control valve is replaced now, if I would find myself paying for addtional repairs in the future.
Description of Work: My home gas fireplace did not work when the switch was turned on (pilot was working). I checked Angie's list and selected All Fuel. I called All Fuel and they said that most likely the thermopyle would have to be replaced, and quoted a price, and I agreed to it. We fixed up an appointment. 10/17/2011: All Fuel changed the thermopile and I paid the amount $209.96 (after 10% Angie's list discount). The gas fireplace worked when All Fuel left. I believe it took about 1.5 hours to finish the work. After a few hours on the same day, the fireplace stopped working. 10/18/2011: I called in the morning and left a message that the fireplace did not work. All Fuel called back and said that the gas control valve would have to be replaced, and they will find out where to get the part. 10/20/2011: All Fuel called back and said it will cost additional $319 to replace the gas control valve. They assured me that I was not being double charged. I told All Fuel I will get back to them. 10/24/2011: I called the manufacturer of the gas fireplace, and through them contacted their local service company for suggestions. They mentioned the gas control valve cost $199 for the model I had. They suggested in general the control valve does not go bad, and thought there could be a "limit switch" problem. They asked me to short circuit a connection with paper clip to see if the fireplace would come on. It did. 10/25/2011: I called All Fuel and left message. 10/26/2011: All Fuel returned my call. I mentioned the fact the fireplace now worked and I did not want to replace the gas control valve at the moment. I also mentioned that the cost of gas control valve was $199 and it looked as though I am charged for additional labor of $120 (bringing the cost to $319). Since I did not exactly know what the problem was, I was prepared to get the control valve replaced. I mentioned to All Fuel that I am prepared pay for the part which was $199. I asked All Fuel if they would negotiate and reduce on the $319 quoted earlier. They said it would not be profitable for them to repair only for the cost of the part and $319 was the best they could do. They made a note in my records that if I called back with a problem on the fireplace within a year, they would repair at the same $319 quote. 11/01/2011: THE FIRE PLACE STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY.

Response from All Fuel Installation & Service
Member, In regards to your post, we buy fireplace valves from distributors, we do not get to buy valves from maufacturers of fireplaces because we do not sell fireplaces. They (manufacturers) will not sell us valves at the same price that they will to the dealers who sell their product. It is one way that makes dealers more competitive in the marketplace when service is required. Therefore, the prices I pay for valves are eleveated because I am typically buying them from distributors. For all other non-manufacturer specific parts there are generic interchangeable parts that can be used so that we can charge the same price and some times much less to repair a problem. After thouroughly reading your post it appears as though the fireplace is not working even after you did what the manufacturer instructed you to do. We will still stand behind our service and replace the valve for you. If you get the valve from the manufacturer at the price of $199 we will come out and replace it for you at no additional charge.

I purchased a new gas fireplace burner from Susie, who is very helpful, at Northwest Natural Gas parts and appliances center. All Fuel was the recommended service provider. They were timely, polite and completely professional. They gave me a one hour service window for my appointment and followed up with 2 courtesy calls. The technician was on time, very polite, knew exactly what needed to be done, answered all of my questions and left the work area spotless. The burner was $189 and the service call was $150. This call was an A+. Excellent service. I will definitely use them again.

The owner came out first to assess & discuss options. Found him to be very professional & knowledgeable. Was given a rundown of heating options from cheapest to most expensive, as well as education on which system would be most heating efficient. He explained the process of installing each option, how long it would take & gave a bid. I chose a gas insert for my fireplace. He recommended going to NW Natural to purchase it & they were also very professional & helpful. They had several insert options, with prices ranging from approx $1800 up to $3500. Some models offer rebates & tax credits & they were able to provide this information at the time of purchase. All Fuel picked up the insert & installed it in about 2 hours. An electrician also came out on the first day & installed wiring to an outlet so that no cords could be seen from the front of the insert. All Fuel Installation has a 3-day installation process, as the owner explained. The first day was initial installation. They arrange with the city for a permit inspection on a second day. The third day, they finish installation, putting up the frame & screen, testing the insert & reviewing how to use the remote-control functions. The fan function was not working on my insert, at the time of installation so an appointment was set up with NW Natural to have a technician come out & fix it. Turned out to be a wire that was disconnected & not readily visible. The technician repaired it very promptly, made some fine-tuning adjustments & re-tested all the functions. Overall, I was very happy with the work done. Everyone involved was very helpful, courteous & professional. They were all very knowledgeable in their fields & I felt confident that I'd had reputable high-quality work done. I would definitely recommend All Fuel Installation to anyone interested in upgrading their fireplace to a gas insert. Pricing info: All Fuel's costs were listed above & this included parts, installation & the city permit. Additional costs to factor in are the cost of the insert (mine was $2800 - but you get a $250 tax credit & a $350 rebate from the manufacturer) and the electrician's fees ($270). So overall, the grand total of putting in a gas insert was about $3400.
Description of Work: Had a gas insert installed in a wood-burning fireplace. They also installed a cap on the chimney. This company offers the option of electrical work , through another company, so you don't have to have an electrical cord running out of your fireplace insert to an outlet.

Originally we contacted Sherry Woods at Hoemestead Stove for service on on pellet stove. Sherry no longer serviced pellet stoves and recommended Eric & Perry at All Fuel. She said they would take good care of us and she was right. All Fuel was the second company on my list to call. I called and left a message. Eric was very prompt about calling me back. I explained that we had just purchased the home and had never worked with a pellet stove before. Eric explanined exactly what they would do and they would even show us how to operate the stove and what the service call would cost. He even recommended the best pellets to purchase. He was very flexible about working around my scheduled. The day of the appointment Perry gave me a courteous call to let me know exactly what time he would be there. Not only was he prompt, he was very respectful of protecting the house and even outside while he was on the roof. We found out that we actually had one of the best stoves available and that it had been well taken care of. Perry answered all our questions and showed us how to use the stove. He tested it and made sure it was working and if we had anymore questions or problems to please not hesitate to call them. The price was exactly what Eric had quoted to me. All Fuel is the only company I will use. They are fantastic. What my daughter and I both appreciated was they didn't talk down to us because we were woman. I highly recommend All Fuel.

These people are fantastic. There knowledge, workmanship, and respect for the client's property is commendable. I wouldn't have the slightest concern about recommending All Fuel Installations to anyone.
Description of Work: I purchased a gas fireplace insert that I wanted installed in my existing wood burning fireplace. Eric came to my home to view the job and give me an estimate. He scheduled the job for eleven days later. Eric and his assistant arrived that morning. The removed the existing wood burning facilities, installed the new venting system in the Chimney, a gas line and shutoff valves from the existing line in the basement to the fireplace, and assembled the new gas unit in the fire box. When they left with that part of the job complete, there was almost no cleanup needed in my home. Eric asked for a city inspection the next morning. The inspector checked the installation and that afternoon Eric was back to finish connecting the fireplace and do final testing. Several months later a warranty issue developed. The dealer's service technician was extremely busy so Perry of All Fuel was dispatched to solve the problem. Once again the job was completed in a fast and professional manner.

We purchased two gas inserts from NW Natural. They gave us a couple installers to call for estimates. The first guy we called was clueless and seemed to have no idea what he was doing. Perry from All Fuel was the second call we made. He was polite, professional and clearly knew what he was doing. His estimate was about 2/3's of the first estimate and so we gave him the job. He showed up on time with his partner and in conjunction with an electrician who needed to run an electrical line. They did the work expertly and walked us through the operation of the fireplaces. We had one minor issue with a door not closing properly after the installation. Perry returned and finished the adjustment quickly. The cost of the installation was exactly as estimated; no hidden charges.

The fire would turn on and off on its own, and they got it fixed. It was due to loose wiring. They just did the minimum work that was required and did not do anything that was unnecessary. It has been great ever since. They were very punctual and very friendly. They worked quickly and cleaned up after themselves. They are honest and they know a lot about what they do. They did a great job. I would highly recommend them.

Eric was very easy to get a hold of and answered all my questions. Came out promptly to do an estimate on a chimney installation, his quote was the least expensive of all the companies I called for an estimate. Our chimney, unfortunately is tall and difficult to install the steel liner. Eric was not sure he could do the job. We went instead with another installer who guaranteed they could do the job or no charge to us. Overall, Eric had great customer service and professionalism, I would have used him if he felt comfortable doing the job.

It went well overall - they initiated contact and returned my call promptly. They sent one of the partners for the first contact and assessment but then sent a team of two younger guys to do the job. One of the workers was adequately experienced to get the job done, the other was his assistant. The job involved drilling through my chimney brick, plumbing the gas line, installing two pipes and a new cap onto the chimney, and setting up the fireplace insert. No major hitches, everything went as planned. After the city inspection the same two guys were sent back to finalize the installation and show me how to operate the unit. If the company worked on Fridays I would not have had to wait until Monday to use my fireplace.

All Fuels is great about returning calls right away. They offer very competitive, great quotes, are extemely polite and professional. They take great care of your house and clean up when they head out. They are very knowledgable about rules, codes and regulations. They called the County gas inspector to set up the appointment day for us and they were great about sticking to their quote price and getting out here quickly and timely. We couldn't be happier with our choice to use this company- they are highly recommended! Don't forget to have a carbon monoxide detector in your house (especially with a fireplace in your home!)
Description of Work: All Fuels came out for quote to remove our old cast-iron wood stove and replace in brick chimney with either wood insert or gas insert. Received great quotes for either. Gas already running to house, but had to be plumbed over to fireplace, so a bit more expensive than a wood insert. We decided it was worth the money, so we purchased the gas insert fireplace from NW Naturals supply over in SE PDX and All Fuels came out to remove old cast-iron stove (which weighed a few hundred pounds and they did not put one single scratch on the wood floors in that room), run gas from gas meter up through attic then down through crawl space to firepace. Our house has several additions (ie- garage is now a living space with no crawl space below), so All Fuels very smart about running gas to fireplace in straighest, safest route possible. Actual installation takes 3 visits- 1) they install lines 2) County inspector comes out to make sure gas line installed properly 3) All Fules comes back to set up final connection for fireplace. It was about $1,500 for All Fuels to remove the old wood stove, plumb a new gas line across the entire house and install the new gas fireplace. The fireplace itself cost another $1900, so we spent about $3,500 for the whole project. (County inspector fee must be covered already, because we did not pay the inspector directly). It was WELL worth the money- not only is it a fantastic improvement to our house, but it's clean and easy (no more lugging wood in and out!) We now have a beautiful gas fireplace that flicks on with a switch and heats most of the house. Very useful, comforting and convenient for this grey weather. This company is an A+- would highly recommend them and would use them again in a split second.

Perry showed up within his two-hour arrival window. He kindly introduced himself, presented his card, and promptly got to work after being invited inside. After taking a look, he obtained the necessary tools, then quickly disassembled the pilot, cleaned out the offending spider cocoon, reassembled the pilot and had the fireplace functioning like new again. Overall, Perry was courteous, professional, and efficient. I will not hesitate to call All Fuel again if the need arises.

Great experience. The servicepeople were prompt and knowledgeable, and gave me a good understanding of the problems and how they addressed them. They were honest with me about the future life of the fireplace (it's quite old). Additionally, they looked at an issue with another fireplace, and quickly gave me a thorough estimate for repair on that one.
