He was to start work on Tues. He called on Monday and came about 4 pm to tear out the floor and get a jump start. He worked for 1 1/2 hours, then talked for another 30-40 minutes, not about the job, just talk. He also brought his brother-in-law who did most of the work. He came back Tues. After 2 hours he found dry rot in the floor. He stayed just a little while longer; total work time was 2 1/2 hours. Thanksgiving was Thursday, so we had company and said no more work till Monday. He came at 10 am and left at 4:35. Tues.-no work. He brought supplies in. Wed.: 10:15-2:30, but Jay left to get supplies at a hardware store and was gone one whole hour, which should have taken 30/45 minutes at the most. Thur.: no work. Fri.: One hour of work. Sat. came and he put the vinyl in and finished the job. Actually, the brother-in-law did most of the work and did a really good job on the floor. I totaled the hours and had 18 hours. Jay, when he presented the bill, said they worked 23 hours at $45.00. I would have given him two hours to get the materials, but not five hours. Another thing that really upset us-he brought a tool and said it was $400.00, and charged us $250.00 for rental. He said it made the job go faster. During the time that they were working we fed them three meals. I didn't deduct the time that they ate and still only had 18 hours of work. Jay alway called before coming to say he was on the way. Sometimes it took a couple hours to get here. He always started between 10:00-11:00 the days that they worked. This was Thanksgiving week that they started, and one day my husband had a doctor appointment and they elected not to come that day. There was also a problem with the cut of vinyl-it was cut wrong-so we had to return it and re-order it, which took a week to come in. It came in on Friday afternoon and they finished the job on Saturday. I liked both of them and they did good work, but their time was way off, and the tool they charged rental for was unfair. We will not have them back.
Description of Work: Had a soft spot in the bathroom floor. Everyone we had out said it looked like a sub-floor problem and was an easy fix. We ordered the new vinyl for the floor. Estimate was verbal.
