The work we received was so poor, the heat pump technician that came to certify and start up my heat pump thought I did the work myself! This company charges hourly, and the feeling I got by the service I was provided was that they drag out their time. The job in total took 7 and a half hours. From 7:30am to 3:00pm, just to run a line through the attic to a disconnect box and to the heat pump. From 7:30 to about 8:45, the electrician spent the entire time deciding how to get the new line from the garage to the opposite side of the house. I own a two story split foyer house, where the bottom story is a basement (no crawl space). The house has no ducts (which is why we needed a heat pump) and because of this there is no access between stories. That leaves the attic as the only option to run lines. It took over an hour for a certified Journeyman to come to this conclusion, which I was responsible to pay for. After realizing that he needed to go through the attic, the journeyman had to get an apprentice to help run conduit up to the attic. This is when the electrician left from 9:00 until 10:30! An hour an a half just to get help! When asked what took so long, he stated he had to get supplies. I'm still not able to comprehend that response, since they drive a van and the only supplies used were cable, conduit, and this flexible material to transition from the inside of the attic to the conduit outside of the house. They knew they were wiring a heat pump outside, so they had to already have this material in the first place. From 10:30am, to 12:00pm the apprentice was here, and per the electrician, the apprentice is only supposed to be around for the part of the job that requires 2 people. This was described by the electrician as getting the cable up into the attic. It took them an hour and a half, which I was being charged hourly for 2 people (the apprentice is $10 less per hour) to run cable up the side of a house into the attic. The best part is that my invoice reflected 2.5 hours of apprentice time, to which my dispute was ignored. Let that last part be a testimonial to their legitimacy. From 12:00pm to 2:00pm was the electrician getting the cable from the attic to the other side of the house, down the wall, and connected to a disconnect box (the disconnect box and all supplies related to it were provided by me through my heat pump kit). In the process of getting the cable down the wall to the disconnect box, the electrician used a gutter that I had installed to secure the lines for the heat pump's indoor unit (see pictures). They were not intended to house electrical that is enclosed in conduit and thus is perfectly fine to be exposed. The electrician installed the cable through the gutter (see pictures). When confronted, the electrician said it was fine and that when I went to close the gutter at the top, I should just cut a notch out for the conduit. The only problem with that is, if I cut a notch out for the conduit, I can't seal the gutter, which means moisture will get into the heat pump which is not good (which is why you are supposed to seal the gutter in the first place). From 2:00pm to 3:00pm was spent wiring the heat pump from the disconnect box. In my mind, it took too long to run a small cord from the disconnect box to the heat pump, but the worst part is that the electrician didn't use the strain relief when wiring the heat pump OR the indoor unit (see picture for outdoor unit wiring). That is such a simple thing to do, that I can't think of any other reason besides laziness or inexperience as to why they wouldn't use the strain relief. The next day the heat pump technician comes by to certify the job and turn the heat pump on. The very first thing he asks when he looks at the outdoor unit was if I ran the wires myself, because the cable was using the gutter intended for the heat pump internal piping. He told me that he could turn the unit on, but when I went to get a mechanical permit for the heat pump, they would not pass it because I wouldn't be able to seal the gutter. The technician was also worried about the type of cable used (orange cable that he referred to as NM) being exposed and not in a conduit. When I emailed Code Electric, they assured me that NM cable is permitted to be exposed and doesn't get damaged by UV or harsh conditions. We will see when I go to get the mechanical permit and I will update this review accordingly. After the technician left, I emailed Code Electric with things that needed addressed from their first visit: 1. The conduit needed to be moved. 2. None of the holes they made in my house (there are 3 of them) were sealed. I can't think of another reason besides laziness as to why you wouldn't seal a hole that you drill into a customer's home. They sent out an electrician to move the conduit and seal the holes the next day. That electrician took 2 hours to move the conduit, and only sealed 1 of the holes. He left without any follow up and the company isn't responding to the request of sealing the remaining 2 holes. Finally, the money talk. Code Electric said they would give us a credit due to the issues that we had, to "make it right". I guess we have different definitions for what that entails, because their credit extended to the entire second visit (2 hours of electrician time fixing the mistakes from visit one), and an hour of visit one electrician/apprentice time. Somehow the math for the first visit (remember it was 7.5 hours) ended up being 6 hours journeyman, and 1.5 hours apprentice. Per my above schedule, the apprentice was only there for 1.5 hours, so why did they really "bill" me for 2.5 hours of apprentice time? Again, they didn't respond to my question regarding this, yet another testimonial to their legitimacy. In conclusion, I got charged for 800 bucks worth of time/materials (the materials totaled up to a negligible $136.40 of the $800), to which I should be happy because without the generous credits I received the total bill should've been just under $1200. $1200 to run a wire to a disconnect box and plug into a heat pump. Are you kidding me? I can't in good consciousness refer this company to anyone, all that is going to happen is you will spend a lot of time and money for what should be an easy and stress free experience.

Called the office Tuesday morning, June 16 for an appointment to see why several of my kitchen outlets weren't working and Kathy said they could have an electrician here at Noon. Then Tom (the electrician) called me about 10:10AM to ask if it would be alright to come by sooner. He showed up at 10:20AM and tested the outlets and discovered a bad breaker and replaced it and was done by 10:50AM. He was also kind enough to roll out the frig for me and reconnect it to the proper outlet. Tom was friendly and worked quickly to fix the issue and I'm very pleased. Thank you Code Electric!

Because our new range was awkwardly sticking out into the kitchen after installation on Wednesday afternoon, we hoped to get the service of an electrician on Thursday. After reading reviews of several companies on Angie's List, I chose to call Code Electric first thing in the morning. Office personnel Kathe was very pleasant and accommodating with my request to have the work done that day. My husband and I are retired and normally laid back and flexible with schedules of service people. But that day we needed to make a lunch meeting at 11:30. When Miguel was delayed a bit beyond the expected time, I was worried about his being able to finish the job on time. When I called Kathe back and expressed my concern, she remained pleasant, called Miguel and assured me he was on his way. Miguel arrived soon after. We found him to be very personable and professional, and he completed the job quickly. He moved the range out and worked skillfully in a cramped space to detach the receptacle and reattach it close to the floor. After replacing the range drawer, he double-checked the placement of the receptacle and made a little adjustment so that the drawer could close perfectly. He was so efficient, we had no problem getting to our lunch meeting. If we should need electrical work done in the future, I would not hesitate to call Code Electric again. We were extremely pleased with the service. I believe this smaller company truly strives to serve their customers' needs in the best possible manner.
Description of Work: At the installation of our new kitchen range, we discovered it could not be placed with the back of the range flush against the kitchen wall -- but stuck out by a few inches. The old stove had had a higher drawer, so that the large electrical receptacle on the wall fit inside that recessed area. We needed the existing receptacle moved down the wall closer to the floor.

The electrician arrived at least 10 minutes after his appointed time, and before he had a chance to start work, we noticed that his arm was bleeding. We spent about 10 minutes bandaging his arm and cleaning up the blood he had dripped on the floor and counter. He then went about his business and left. Unfortunately, I didn't make a note of the exact time of his arrival and departure; but, I estimated that he had been here (and working) no more than 60-75 minutes. I provided all of the materials, so the charge covered only labor. So, I was quite surprised to receive what I considered a rather substantial bill. I sent the full payment; however, I included a letter to the effect that I thought the bill was rather high for the amount of time that was actually spent doing the electrical work. I was disappointed that I didn't even receive the courtesy of a call to discuss the amount of the charges. Had I received a reasonable explanation, I probably would feel differently. However, for completely ignoring my concerns, this contractor has lost any future business from me.

Incredible service! You must use this company. I had a new water heater installed in the morning after being without hot water over the weekend. The plumber did a great job but the electrical connection was a foot too short and he could not hook up the power. I went to Angie's List and called Code Electric. The receptionist took my information, made some calls and called me back and said everything's booked solid. I started to look for someone else on the list when she called back and said the owner Jack could swing by after his job in another town and I would have hot water in the evening. Jack came, work done, shower in the evening. Fantastic guy, service and work.

pulling wiresdown from the attic to to I had a problem with a 3 way light switch light that did not always function as it should. They came in to work on that and when checking it found problems with some previously done work probably by the former owner that was put together in a hodgepodge manor. The lights that the switches controlled had a large number of wires put together with short pieces of wire even though there was enough wire in the attic that could be pulled down to wire them correctly, one of the light boxes was broken and only attached with one nail. In addition the area around the light boxes was a piece of wood with a very thin coat of something like joint compound smeared on it. When the light was removed the texture material fell off since there was nothing for the stuff to make it adhere to the wood. Jack was very helpful in working with the person that came to re-texture the celiing. They also came out when I had problems with a electrical outlet to challenge the plug to be sure my electricity was at the correct voltage after a repair man insisted that it was not. Later the appliance repair man had to admit that his voltage meter was not accurate. All of this caused me to call them multiple times. They were very helpful and always ready to help me. I am very grateful to have found a company that goes out of there way to help when I was feeling at the end of my rope with all these things I don't understand.
Description of Work: repair a 3 way light switch in my kitchen which necessitated the replacement of a electrical light box in my celing and pulling wires down from the attic to accomplish the job. Change one breaker in the breaker box . Fix a loose wire in an additional pug in in my kitchen. Challenged an electrical outlet with a PVC pipe bender and a portable heater to prover to a sears repairman that my electrical voltage was not to high for my new refrigerator.

Description of Work: Price unknown because my home warranty insurance covered the bill after my $60 deductible. Breaker box had switched off turning off the electricity in the entry, porch, living room and office (Big TV, computer, all electricity in those rooms). He immediately found the problem and fixed a three-way light switch that had been installed incorrectly. IMMEDIATELY. Plus he fixed a can-light that was not getting power....knew how to find the problem right away and fixed it immediately. Wow. So nice to find someone who can assess the problem and fix it right away. He was friendly, professional, efficient and having that breaker switch working again was a huge relief. He will always be my number-one electrician and I certainly recommend Jack Haggard and Code Electric to anyone..

Even thought it was after hours, Jack Haggard, the company president came promptly to our rescue. He diagnosed the problem (an over-loaded circuit--some prior person had taken a short cut and erroniously hooked another circuit onto the furnice circuit. That extra circuit was causing the short.) Jack fixed to problem by removing the extra citrcuit and adding another breaker to our electrical breaker box to isolate the furnice circuit. This took over an hour at our house and our billing was very reasonable--especially for after hours on a weekend night! We were only charged $100 for the call and $11.70 for the part. We couldn't be happier with the result and the reasonableness of the price!
Description of Work: After hours on Friday night our circuit feeding our furnace shorted out and threw the breaker. We really needed our furnace fan to drive our air conditioning, and it was hot!

I contacted Code Electric because my tenants were experiencing power outages in their living room and bedrooms. I suspected the old air conditioning unit, but wanted an electrician to make sure. The dispatcher was friendly and professional. She contacted an electrician in the field and informed me that I would be called when they had a time to get to the rental. I never heard back and called the next day. She apologized and had an electrician call the tenants and set up a time for the next day. The electrician called me from the rental unit and confirmed that the air conditioner was overloading the circuit. He also said that the microwave, a large, over-the-range model, was on a 15 amp circuit. We confirmed a date with the tenants to work on the microwave circuit. The work was done quickly and with little disturbance to my tenants.

I had to do an emergency remodel on my kitchen as the original kitchen was pretty much destroyed by water damage. After we tore out the soffits, I called Code Electric to reroute all the wiring that was running through them and basically rewire the entire kitchen. Jack showed up promptly, understood my need for a quick turnaround, documented my needs and had someone there the next day to work on it. They got the rough-in done in one day, and Jack even noticed a need I totally forgot to ask him about. I had a new insta-hot going in, and he pointed out the need for a power source for it under the sink. So by their prompt service, they kept my project on schedule. I chose to do part of the finish part, installing some can lights and adding plugs and switches, but everything I didn't want to tackle, they finished up. The only problem was that the wire for the range hood was inadvertently removed, but as soon as I called them, they had someone out the next morning to run a new wire and install the hood. There was only a one hour charge for that, even though I am pretty sure the guy was here a little longer than an hour. I would hire them again without hesitation!

I had used other electrical services before, but they required the rental of a cherry picker to reach the high ceiling, very expensive. Code sent their tech who got up on top of a tall ladder to replace the defective parts, got it all done in less than an hour. Their service rates are about the same as anyone else that's good and reliable, but they are WAY more efficient so the overall cost was considerably less. Plus, they always responded in a timely manner. I believe, altogether, we used them three or four times. Highly recommended.
