Lance and Justin arrived exactly when they said they would on 12/26/2012. Part of the arrangement was that they would move the furniture in and out of the rooms being carpeted. Not a problem until they looked our king sized headboard ...it has three pieces attached (with cabinets and drawers on either side) and there is an attached mirror behind the center of the headboard. We knew this was going to be a challenge to move and we had told Guy about it. Lance and Justin brainstormed how to move the piece. Without going into all of the details...they were INCREDIBLE!!! Yes, they moved the headboard and all of the furniture but these two men are the most fastidious installers we have seen on any project. The carpet we chose has a pile with tones of beige and brown in a pattern. They cut the carpet so that at all the seams, the flow of color continues properly...if they did not give such great detail to the project, some areas would have had a brown stripe or a beige stripe and they would have none of that. The installation took 2 days rather than one (due to the headboard challenge); both Lance and Justin seemed not to care how long it took (by the way they are contractors paid by the job so it is to their financial advantage to do the jobs quickly)...they wanted the installation to be as perfect as they could make it. And it is beautiful!!! Not only are Lance and Justin expert carpet installers, they are funny, caring, smart and very professional. It was a joy to have them in our home for those 2 days. Thank you Guy for making sure that Justin and Lance were our installers...and Thank You Lance and Justin for your excellent work, you made us truly enjoy the installation process; we are very pleased and fortunate to have met you both!!
Description of Work: My husband and I found the carpet sample we loved at Paulson's. Guy, our salesman worked with us and measured our home...I knew we wanted the carpet, I was very concerned about the expertise and professionalism of the people installing the carpet. Angie's list had some reviews that raised my concerns and I shared this with Guy. He assured us that we would have their best installers...Lance and Justin. With Guy's commitment, we moved forward and purchased the carpeting and agreed to having it installed on 12/26.

They said they would not do the work.
Description of Work: Called to get them to come out to give a quote to fix our kitchen floor (our dishwasher leaked and the repair is covered under the insurance--but we need to estimates). This company is listed under floor repair, but they told me they would only do a repair on work they did. Useless.

Thank you for giving us a call and offering the opportunity. We're sorry we were unable to help you with your needs. The categories on Angie's List are pre-configured and "repair" is included with the sales and installation category. We certainly don't mean to mis-inform people.

We were pleased with the services and professionalism of our salesman, Guy. He helped us choose carpeting that we are happy with. His estimate was in line with what we anticipated paying, and it was easy to order our carpeting and plan the installation. The company hires sub-contractors to remove old carpeting and do the installation. The sub-contractor we got did all the really important parts fine. They arrived on time, removed all the old carpeting, cleaned the floors before installing the new carpeting. The necessary seam in the living room is nicely done. They cleaned up after themselves. The less important things they did less well. They broke a fire alarm taking the old carpeting out and neglected to tell us, we simply found the pieces in the garage. They put a staple through the wiring to the stereo speakers rendering the speakers useless. While we had made arrangements for them to move the furniture, they just left the large pieces in the middle of the rooms when they were done. In our mid-60's we moved a lot more furniture than we had anticipated, and did considerably more re-wiring than we’d hoped.
Description of Work: Purchased and installed new carpeting/removed old carpeting in three rooms and a stairway.

The service was good there were no issues with either the store personnel or the installation person. Quality wise the carpet is very nice, but we were told the seam would fade and it really hasn't after several months. The carpet is Karastan but even so, the price seemed high at $54/sq yard for the size of room. The only reason I wouldn't use them again was price.

We were remodeling our kitchen. We liked the wider planks of the Shaw wood laminate flooring and the more natural color variations of the Natural Values II line. Price was excellent ($1.39/sf for the planks). Far better deal than Home Depot for much nicer quality and thickness! I had the Paulson's salesman come out to do a measurement for me and confirm what specialized edging pieces we would need for our step and door frames. Initially, we wanted to use the installers provided by Paulson's, but a close friend told me she had really bad luck with her install. A friend's GC kindly shared the name of his flooring sub, and we hired the sub. He did not feel that the prep-schedule outlined by Paulson's would be sufficient for a long-lasting floor. He had us install a black paper and thin 1/4 plywood underlayment for a better final result. I called Paulson's a week ahead to confirm my order was on track. I never heard back because there are two ladies with the same first name and the wrong one got my message. So, assuming all was well, I went to pick up all of the product . Part was at Tigard store and part at the Science Park store. But neither store had the pieces for the step and the door jams. Somehow, despite the measurements, the sales staff had forgotten to order them. I had to go back to Science Park store to work this out with the general manager. He gladly expressed the pieces from Seattle for me, and I had to go to Tigard during rush hour to get it. They cut down part of the re-order costs, and were very apologetic. My conclusion: Paulson's carries some really nice flooring. The people there are very kind and helpful, but frankly they seem to screw things up here and there. If the price is right, I would buy their product again but with a few caveats. Glad I didn't have them install it. Just picking it up was stressful enough. I would also give them a deadline at least a week ahead of when I actually needed it. We have a beautiful floor at a good price, and now that it is just over a year old, I can say it was a good decision.
Description of Work: We purchased a Shaw floating wood laminate floor (similar to Pergo, but the Shaw brand). We did not end up using their installation team and found our own. We had to go to make three trips to pick up our purchase, over a three day period because they forgot to order part of it. The staff was very apologetic and even cut down part of the re-order costs.

We got several samples and had an estimate at the house. We decided we could do the backsplash ourselves and they agreed we could and helped us estimate the amount and materials we needed. Lots of 1:1 attention and educating us about what was required, whether we needed backerboard and other advice. I found an Emsler pattern I liked elsewhere (for $18 sq. ft.) Paulsen's tracked down if they could get it, ordered it for us and it came to between $6 and $7. So much for and quot;outletand quot; pricing. When the wrong color was shipped by the company, they called on the spot and I had the right color and quantity a few days later. We had a good experience.

we re-floored about 95% of our family home. We did laminates, Vinyl, and carpeting. We contacted four different company's for overall bids on our project. Although paulsons was not the cheapest ...its selection of products and attentive sales representative won the overall contract. Our sales representative was very detailed and the job went off smoothly and on schedule. All contractors were prompt and did good work with attention to detail.
Description of Work: laminate floors for 95% of first floor along with the stairs and landing on the second floor, vinyl in the kitchen and the powder room. and carpet in the bedrooms. paulsons did a excellent job of scheduling the work as not to cause to much family disruption. We had the job(s) scheduled out over a two week period.

Went to the showroom in Tigard for information and pricing on laminate flooring. Salesman didn't seem to be very knowledge about the products and even when I tried to drag information out of him I couldn't get much. Ask him which laminate he thought was a good and quot;valueand quot; and he just showed me his cheapest product. When I asked about vinyl that looked like wood he didn't seem interested in talking about it which surprised me because it was a much more expensive product and I was very interested in it. I asked why someone would buy the thicker laminate flooring (again higher priced) and he couldn't tell me. He said that most residential homes go with a 8mm and in rentals sometimes they put in 7mm. I did leave with a sample board to help me with color selection but when I returned I again tried to get information with the exact same results. Left and went to a competitors store.....ended up buying 12mm laminate for my family room.

We were looking to brighten up the house with a light colored, nylon carpet and I did all the research. Brian brought out a sample of a closeout Shaw product (couldn't come close to the price anywhere else) and although it was not as plush as I would have prefered, we upgraded to an 8 lb pad and it looks GREAT!
Description of Work: Hawaiian Brian was very responsive to all our needs and requests. He and the installation team were very professional and completed the job exactly as scheduled. We are very happy with the results! We intalled 230 Sq yards with an 8 lb pad. The measurements were very well done, there was very little left!

We were looking for reasonably priced hardwood flooring and found Floor Solutions at Parr Lumber Cabinet Outlet in Hillsboro (we later found out that Floor Solutions is part of Paulson's). We looked at several samples at the showroom and took several home and finally selected Kentwood Originals - 3 1/2 inch Hickory Pecan Natural Studio, which was on sale because we were told (by Jason Adams who works for Floor Solutions at Parr Lumber) it was in stock at the warehouse. We purchased 720 sq. ft of hardwood floors in addition to several custom made vents. As we had our own installer we were told that they do not deliver and we had to pick up the materials at the Paulson's in Tigard. Our installer picked up all the material for us on Saturday as we were to have our floor installation start on Monday. When the material was delivered they looked to be the right number of boxes, but we did not check the flooring until the next day (Sunday). When we looked at the flooring on Sunday we realized that it did not look like the material we had selected based on the sample. We contacted Floor Solutions (Jason Adams) on the cell , the Paulson's in Tigard, and our contractor who was to install the floors and left messages with all three. We did not hear from anyone that day except for our floor installation contractor who emailed us the receipt of the material he had picked up that noted exactly what we paid for - Kentwood Originals - 31/2 in Hickory Pecan Natural Studio. We had to wait until the next day to hear back from Paulson's in Tigard, who assured us that we were wrong and that the material sent was exactly what we paid for even though the boxes were labeled differently and did not have either Kentwood Originals or Hickory Pecan on it. I went back to the Parr Lumber Showroom in Hillsboro to talk to Jason Adams as I had yet to hear from him, but he was not there. In fact we still haven't heard from him either to clarify or apologize, and to resolve our complaints we had to go through Paulson's directly. A salesman at Parr Lumber gave me a phone number to call the owner of Paulson's. I called him and left him a message. I also picked up the (Kentwood Originals Hickory Pecan Natural Studio) sample that we used to select the flooring and took it home to compare it to the flooring that was delivered. I spoke with a very helpful woman Sheryl at Paulson's who at first told me that the materials we had were Kentwood Originals and that I could go home to check but that it should be the same as they did not have anything else in stock at the warehouse. I did compare the sample to the materials and realized that they were not the same. The width was different, the color was different and most importantly the quality was inferior. I called her to confirm my findings. By then the owner of Paulson's had someone else help with this matter and we had both Sheryl and the other lady (whose name I forget) help with this. They asked me take the sample and some of the flooring material over to the Paulson's in Beaverton so that the store manager there could confirm my observations. On my way to Paulson's I got a call from Sheryl who confirmed that I was given the wrong material. She said the supplier who provided them with material made a mistake with the sample piece. However she said she did not have any Kentwood Originals in stock. Long story short Mike at Paulson's offered a $250 discount if we decided to keep the material we already had, or to give us the 5" wide Kentwood Originals Hickory Pecan delivered from Kent, WA at no extra cost. We went with the second option as the flooring material we were given originally was truly sub-par. The material was delivered the next day delaying our installation by two days. Overall we had a a very frustrating experience with Floor Solutions, but we were impressed with the way Sheryl and others from Paulson's handled this situation. Sheryl was wonderful about keeping us abreast of the situation and kept me informed when the new material arrived from Kent, WA at their warehouse and when it was to arrive at our home. She was very apologetic,as was Don who delivered the material, and Mike and everyone we spoke to at Paulson's. We were grateful to have their support and helfulness as we were dealing with this harrowing experience. I hope in the future they keep track of what they are selling and compare it to the samples they are using. The B's in this report are mostly because Floor Solutions is a part of Paulson's so our overall experience includes our negative experience with Floor Solutions.

When we first entered their building and told them we were interested in remnant carpeting, we were ushered to the back warehouse where there were maybe 30 rolls of remnants. We were told how to read the footage on the tag and then left to ourselves. I guess if you're not buying new carpeting, they don't want to waste their time teaching you what to look for in carpet quality, etc. After choosing our carpet, based solely on color, we were told that we didn't need the 8 lb. pad for a bedroom, which was later contradicted by the guy they sent to come to our house and take measurements. Very nice man. We should have paid the extra $10 for the 8 lb. pad. Floor seems kind of hard. When I called to schedule the carpet installation, I was told I would need to come in to the store and sign something, which I did. (A twenty minute drive in traffic.) The lady said she would be gone when I got there, but she would leave the paper on her desk. The next day, I was called and told that I hadn't signed ALL the papers that were needed. My husband had to drive over there again to sign another paper. As for the actual carpet installation, I have only two complaints. After reading online to be wary of carpeting companies sending out a lesser quality carpet instead of the one chosen, I actually tried to check the tag # on the roll of carpeting while it was still in the van- against the # they had written on my receipt. They had taken the tag off so I couldn't check. It had been 3 weeks since I had last seen the carpet. How was I supposed to remember the exact shade of beige? Second, the installer noted when he was finished with the job that the door from our bathroom into the bedroom was now hard to shut and made a LOUD rubbing noise. He didn't seem to know why and didn't offer to fix it. After a couple of days of not being able to shut the door without jarring our nerves, I got down on my hands and knees and studied the rub between door and the new flashing he'd installed. I could see it was raised just a bit so I took a few good whacks at it with a hammer. No more rubbing. Problem solved.

The install 2 years ago went fine. However the carpet did not hold up at all, delaminating at the seams. Had this been a cheap apartment carpet I would have expected that, but this was a higher-quality carpet, purchased for the very purpose of holding up under heavy usage. An independent flooring agent (someone I contacted about repairing the carpet) declared the carpet to be defective. Paulson's, meanwhile: 1) Didn't show up to the first appointment. 2) Did show up on the second, and told me they'd contact me the next business day. 3) Contacted me as promised.... to tell me the prior inspection didn't count and they needed to do it again. 3a) To their credit, they made the 3rd appointment on the same day and kept it. 4) I was told I would hear back the next afternoon. 5) After having to place several voicemails that afternoon, I got the message that now the carpet manufacturer needed to do an inspection, and that might take 'several weeks'. Meanwhile, my rental sits, not earning income. 6) The next day I track down the original sales rep, and after a couple of hours he informs me the manufacturer won't replace the carpet because it's been more than 90 days. Because, you know, $2800 worth of work should only last for 90 days. I might be more forgiving of the result if it wasn't such a hassle getting answers out of Paulson. However, I got a lemon of a carpet and a lemon of a response from Paulson's. Avoid.

Response from Paulson's Floor Coverings
In response to the member’s unhappiness with how their rental carpet has held up over the past two years, we are sorry for any inconvenience and frustration this has caused. We would like to point out that no matter how expensive or high quality a carpet is, it will not withstand 2 years of animal urine. This is what caused the de-laminating of the carpet backing. An independent flooring agent that was contacted by the member was not an authorized independent inspector with certification determining the cause. If a certified inspector had been contacted, they would have declined the claim due to heavy saturation of pet urine and lack of normal cleaning procedures on the carpet. Carpet manufactures do not place wear warranties on homes that are being used as rentals after 1 year even if the carpet is properly maintained, which it was not in this case. This is due to heavy use of traffic, multiple occupants and lack of proper and professional carpet cleaning that needs to take place to maintain such warranties. As far as making initial contact with the member, this was done within a very reasonable time and all returned phone calls and ongoing appointments were made within a timely manner.

I'm very happy with Paulson's. Despite the fact that my project is very small, Brennan took the time to explain my choices and let me take samples home to check how they'd look. We had an upstairs toilet overflow (for over an hour) and flood much of one side of our home. We originally were going to work through a restoration company as our general contractor to do all the repairs but after having some bad experiences and communication issues with them decided to handle it ourselves. They had given us the name of Richie at Paulson's, and even after we were just regular customers (rather than working through this other company) Richie said he'd still be happy to work with us on our flooring. I had an initial frustrating experience with another employee there filling in for Richie, but once Richie heard that he took over and was extremely helpful and patient over the next 2 1/2 months! It took us forever to decide on carpet since it was such a big purchase (that we knew we'd be living with a long time) and Richie was very patient. I know I was not an easy customer--I asked a million questions and he was almost always quick to respond to my emails. In fact all of the employees we dealt with in the various showrooms were always very nice and helpful. When there was a small issue with the carpet in one room--a few snags--the worker who installed it was back the very next day to fix it. Also, the tile guy they sent was great at what he does and did a wonderful job for us. The only thing I wasn't completely happy with was the vinyl flooring in the bathroom--the installer made a mistake and there is an odd angled tear/seam on one side of the toilet--Richie said this was a normal part of installation, but I know that is not true because it is not a straight cut and it is not like that in any other vinyl floor we've ever had! But it seems to be glued down well at least. I know Paulson's isn't always the cheapest option for carpet if you are just walking in off the street, but I feel they did a quality job and I think they would be willing to stand behind their work if something went wrong.
Description of Work: Installed tile flooring and tile countertop in laundry room, carpet throughout the house, and vinyl flooring in a bathroom. We opted not to have them refinish our hardwood floors since I heard they contract this out and I was worried about quality control, but in retrospect we probably should have because I felt they stood behind their work.

I called the Tigard store asking if they had any carpet remnants in a tan looped (Berber) pattern. The woman said that I needed to come in to see what they had (I figured they must have a good selection). When I arrived at the store shortly after this, I asked the same question and the woman said "we don't have that". The store was not busy, and there were 2 people at the desk. It is poor customer service to not take the time to help a customer on the phone and save an unnecessary trip to their store. I was looking for the same item a couple years ago, and had the same lack of helpfulness on the phone from Paulson's. I went to another store which DID tell me over the phone what they had in stock, and they DID have a good selection when I arrived. I will be going back to the other store now. It's too bad Paulson's hasn't learned how to treat customers.
