Services we offer
We offer full general contracting management as well as custom cabinetry. Our service is comprehensive: from tear out to completion including certified designers to help with selections. Areas of specialty are kitchens, bathrooms and home office.
Services we don't offer
Refacing, Repair, Matching, Modification of Existing Cabinetry, Refinishing
We went to their offices in Milwaukie to see the designs and get a quote for the job, including their cabinets and their role as general contractor. While the 3-D designs, the wonderful examples and real craftsmanship of their cabinets impressed us, we decided that their services were overpriced. If price is not your top concern, perhaps you could consider hiring them.

On time and on budget with excellent results.
Description of Work: Peter gave us a firm estimate once we chose our cabinets and details of remodeling the kitchen. He worked with us every step of the way to ensure excellent results. He laid out a five week schedule and managed the project to finish right on time. This involved tearing out the old cabinets and appliances and donating them so we can get a tax deduction. Then, striped the sheetrock to studs, rewired everything, relocated ceiling lights, and updated all shutoff valves for water supplies in the kitchen. With new sheetrock in place they installed the new custom made cabinets, granite countertops, etc. He coordinated the floor refinisher and painter to assure the project was completed on time and on budget. We are extremely satisfied with the quality of work and recommend him to our friends.

I took advantage of an Angie's List Big Deal, $75 for a kitchen design. Crystal Kennedy, designer, and Peter Schraner, owner, came to our home and measured the space. They listened carefully to what I would like to see different in our kitchen. A few weeks later, we went to their office to see the design. It was fabulous! We loved the great ideas that Crystal developed. Both Crystal and Peter were a pleasure to work with; good listeners, professional, and responsive. After much consideration, we decided not proceed with a general contractor, but instead decided to do most of the work ourselves. However, if we ever decide to hire someone to do such work, it would be Pacific Northwest Cabinetry.
Description of Work: They provided a new kitchen design for a remodel and a bid to do the work.

The total Pacific Northwest Cabinetry planning experience was both positive and informative--with the potential for an outstanding outcome. However, despite all of the above, I searched out a second bid, which turned out to be competitive. This second bid was accepted for the following reasons: 1) The cabinets would be manufactured locally, rather than out of state. 2) The separate cost of the cabinets were included in the bid. 3) The general contractor turned out to be living in my general neighborhood.
Description of Work: The Big Deal offer of custom design with computerized drawings for only $75 seemed to be too good to be true! I received a home visit from both a designer and general contractor, where they listened to my ideas & needs. A couple of weeks later, I visited the company office for a review of the set of computerized drawings, drawn according to scale, the bid for the complete remodeling job , and the cabinets that were being proposed for installation. Again, both designer & contractor listened to feedback, and some of the drawings were revised accordingly, on the spot.

On day one of the schedule, Peter and his team arrived at 8:00 AM sharp and it continued that way throughout the 12 working days of the project. The whole project only took 20 calendar days (over Thanksgiving), exactly as planned. They worked two Saturdays just to make sure that the schedule would be met. Peter stopped by the jobsite every day to check on the work. Some impressive details: -Jobsite toilet delivered on day one -Arrangements made for non-profit donation and pick-up of old cabinets and appliances -Dust barriers and carpet cover installed -Kept their office open late one night so we could look at samples -Returned all calls promptly -Posted jobsite rules and schematics -Provided immediate neighbors with courtesy notification of extra activity and parking -Arranged for all city inspections in a timely manner -Accepted weekly payments on credit card -All subcontractors and employees were very professional with outstanding attention to detail -Job site was cleaned up at each day's end -If anyone was delayed in traffic, we would get a call -They told us that we could get a granite remnant installed in our bathroom for the labor and fabrication cost only and so we added that to our project. We got to know Peter, Ivy and Josh the most and they were each exceptional to work with. Ivy was a tremendous help in picking out granite, cabinets, and hardware. We would recommend Pacific Northwest Cabinetry to anyone without hesitation. The work is top quality and they are outstanding to work with. If we decide to do more remodeling, we will definitely call them again.
Description of Work: We began by asking Peter and his team for a design plan and bid for our major kitchen remodel (all appliances, cabinets replacement, new granite counters and adding built-in desk). They came up with a very complete design that we used to solidify our ideas and to show to other providers. After getting bids from two other companies, we chose Pacific Northwest Cabinetry primarily due to their professionalism and emphasis on schedule. We made some adjustments to the design and incorporated many suggestions that they made. Peter, his team and his subcontractors did the tear out, brought plumbing and electrical up to code, installed new cabinets, textured, painted, and installed appliances and granite counters.

They came out and measured...set me up for an appt to view the design 3-4 weeks later. At the reveal, I found the plan elementary. I paid for the plan and thought I was paying for their expertise and creativity...waste of my time AND money.
Description of Work: Save your money....I paid for a kitchen remodel plan. It was on Angie's List as a deal: $75 for kitchen remodel plan value $500.00...oh brother. There are plenty of other contractors out there that want your business, can provide a free plan, are more creative, will work with you, have more reasonable pricing and don't nickle and dime you.

Response from Pacific Northwest Cabinetry & Remodeling
Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry you were disappointed with the design. We base our design work upon notes gathered from our initial onsite meeting at your home, attempting to give clients what they ask for, using NKBA guidelines and building code requirements, while being sensitive to the amount the client is wishing to invest in the project. We are staffed with certified, experienced designers prepared to devote multiple hours beyond the 3 hour Big Deal allotment into additional creative ideas and plan modifications. The $75.00 offer, however, is intended to give members an initial kitchen design concept for a starting point, dimensions, and pricing for planning purposes. We wish you the best on your project and thank you for the opportunity to provide a design and estimate for your kitchen.

Second time around with Pacific Northwest Cabinetry! We so loved our kitchen remodel that when we tackled the bathroom/utility room we invited Peter to come back and build a small unit. No project is too small, was Peter's attitude. We only needed a counter height cabinet with four areas to hold laundry baskets, and a ceiling height cabinet for laundry storage. We didn't even compare prices this second time. After our first experience, I knew that Peter could work in our tight schedule and would deliver exactly what we wanted. I didn't even feel like I would have to explain what "feel" we were wanting, as Pacific Northwest Cabinetry got it right the first time. Peter's team built from scratch, maple cabinets that would fit our tight space. He adapted the cabinet on the spot, because we forgot to tell him that we had to drop the hall ceiling four inches and crunched him for space when bringing in the 8 foot cabinets from the truck. Peter's team installed, cleaned up, and was gone in half a day. Peter even sent four brand new laundry baskets for us to pop into the shelves right away. The team was on time, sitting outside our house 10 minutes before the established time. They cleaned up everything, including the tiles from the garage to the laundry room, following the path that they walked on. The floors had been covered with padding and the workers wore some kind of foot coverings. Definitely left the site cleaner than they found it. Following the remodel and installation, Peter checked back in to see if the cabinets were everything we wished for. They were beautiful and get comments from everyone who checks out our remodel. (Little did we know that the following week, I was to break my wrist and ankle, causing us to need this newly remodeled ground level bathroom more than ever. The cabinets became my personal closet and dresser. The laundry baskets have been wonderful for sorting and the lay out is perfect for someone using a walker/scooter.)
Description of Work: Bathroom/Utility room cabinets 1. Personally came to our home and measure our space and talked about options for lay out of the utility room as well as options for cabinets. 2. Returned with computer 3D drawings that we could look at and see from all angles. Left us with paper drawing of the selected lay out. 3. Gave us two options for price, based on type of wood. 4. Worked with our time line for the rest of the remodel. Built the cabinets off site, and then returned to install on the exact day they told us. 5. Cleaned up the area and left it ready for us to move in. Also gave us instructions on how to keep the wood in the best shape for decades.

I consulted with PNWC originally for just kitchen cabinet design services for a kitchen remodel I was planning. I selected them due to an Angie's List coupon offer. PNWC was one of 4 design/cabinet providers I consulted. The consultation started with Peter Schraner coming to my home to discuss my project and take pictures. Peter asked detailed questions about what my goals were for the kitchen, and what I thought the problems were in the existing kitchen. We scheduled a follow up appointment for two weeks later to review the design at the PNWC showroom. Peter also provided a recommendation for a general contractor that he had worked with before, since I had not yet selected one. At the showroom appointment I met Peter again, and Crystal Kennedy, the designer assigned to my project. They presented computer rendered design on a large screen, and printed color copies. They were able to make changes in the design during our meeting based on my feedback. They were able to answer all my questions about different materials for constructing the cabinets and optional features that could be added. They had examples of the optional features in their showroom; soft-close mechanisms, spice racks, trash bin cabinet motors, and so on. After getting additional estimates for similar materials and design from other providers I opted to hire PNWC. Coincidentally I also ended up choosing the general contractor PNWC recommended. There were a few suprises during the project. It turned out that one upper cabinet and an appliance garage door had to be re-ordered because the measurements had not accounted for window trim. They also determined that two cabinets doors were a poor color match to the rest of the cabinetry, and they opted to replace them at no cost. These items were discovered during the installation before I even had a chance to see the items myself. This was an excellent example of their attention to detail, ensuring everything was up to their exacting standards. The reordered cabinet was obtained in a timely manner and installed before the remodel project was completed. Unfortunately the reordered doors could not be obtained before the overall completion of my remodeling project. The reordered doors did come in ahead of schedule and were promptly installed upon arrival. Peter and his designer Crystal were regularly in contact with me, following up on details, answering questions, and making sure that everything was done to my complete satisfaction. I am extremely pleased with the quality of the products, the installation services, the attention to detail, and the responsiveness of PNWC.
Description of Work: PNW Cabinetry provided design services for new kitchen cabinets, plus the cabinets themselves and installation.
The trades people were talented, punctual, respectful of our house and property; personable; and professional. They also when well out of their way to look out for us. There was NO DAMAGE to the existing hardwood floor. There were many instances where we noted little things that all the trades people did to minimize dust and disruption (e.g. keeping the workplace reasonably clean as the worked and before they would leave every night). Story of dedication and determination - The fridge: Early on (upon Peter's advice) we determined that we would move the old fridge into the dining room which would be our temporary kitchen. Normally this would have easily fit through the front foyer. However, a large aquarium was now blocking the easy route. Peter's crew (Josh) dismantled the Fridge doors and "extruded it" (literally). through the dinning room doorway (which ordinarily would not have been able to accommodate something as large as the Fridge). We knew that damage to the doorway would be inevitable but also that it would be fixed. I was amazed that it worked and now I have some appreciation for what it would be like to squeeze a refrigerator through a tooth paste tube. Dos and Don'ts: The electric circuit for the dinning room is the same as the kitchen. Power needs to be cut in the kitchen during demolition and at other times. Upon realizing this we simply powered the fridge with an extension cord plugged into a different circuit. The whole crew did an excellent job in handling the anxious moments that sometimes arise when you think something may not work out as well as you intended. For example there were a couple of times when we ask that some aspect of the work be held while we considered if we had made the right decision. No one ever expressed any inkling of frustration or anxiety about the potential for disruption (although everyone - including my wife and me - were acutely aware of staying on schedule). Peter and Ivy listened (no trying to talk us into the easy route or what they wanted). They were extremely patient and helpful. Usually we confirmed the original decision was the right one and never experienced any delay due to their quick response. In conclusion we were extremely pleased with the work and highly recommend Pacific NW Cabinetry.
Description of Work: We wanted a complete remodel of our kitchen/family room areas. Our target budget was in the $80K range. We had three bids. The lowest bid was from a highly regarded cabinet remodeler we found on Angie's List. His references were excellent and we felt that he was highly motivated and reliable but he was essentially a one man operation. The other two bidders were Neal Kelly and Pacific NW Cabinetry. NK had done work for us in the past that we were pleased with (although not without some problems). We found NK to be arrogant and extremely high priced. Pacific NW Cabinetry also came highly recommended on Angie's List. They were extremely responsive and professional. They listened carefully and delivered a realistic bid at an acceptable price. Ivy and Peter were extremely personable and really cared about the quality of their work. We were highly confident in selecting them and our instincts proved correct. They were the general contractor and coordinated all the other trades needed for the job. The job entailed gutting the kitchen of our 17 year old house, built-in cabinetry in the kitchen and along the long wall in our family room, a huge island, new lights throughout, new appliances, granite countertops, etc. I am fairly handy but do not have the time for such a massive project. I did the painting and a few custom wood touches. We were very impressed with the time they spent to get to know us and what we wanted. Ivy really listened and did an outstanding job in helping us design and coordinate our space. The design sessions were fun, interactive and very effective using a CAD system and laser pointers (we highly recommend this high tech approach). Ivy was extremely helpful picking out stonework and carpets. She has a great eye for color and style (including hinting outside the box). Peter was tireless, a superb craftsman; an excellent judge and manager of people. All of the vendors spoke very highly of him (you are in great hands; he does stellar work). He had a great rapport with all of the trades people and they all genuinely wanted to do their best for him. He made sticking to the schedule (5 weeks) look easy. He was very supportive of his trades people sometimes going to Home Depot or back across town to get them something.

We hired this company last summer to design and remodel our kitchen. They came to our home prepared to measure and begin the design process. We then got to see computer renderings of three possible designs. After choosing our plan, we got a detailed estimate of costs. We chose a date to have our remodel begin and the crew arrived at 8am and went to work on that date. We received a timetable of what would happen each for the entire five week project. Throughout there were no delays and the project was finished in exactly the five weeks promised. The contractors were pleasant and all did an excellent job with great attention to detail. The owner came to our home each day to inspect the work. He and his staff were always available to answer questions and consult with us. The designer accompanied us to chose countertops, tile, paint, etc. and made excellent suggestions. Every effort was made to ensure that our furniture and carpets were protected throughout the project. At the end of construction, they sent a housekeeper in to clean the cabinets and the adjoining rooms. Our kitchen is beautiful and we experienced no additional expenses above the original estimate. We enjoyed working with this company very much and would recommend them to anyone who wants to work with great people for a professional remodel.
Description of Work: We had our kitchen designed and remodeled. This included tearing out everything to the studs and a soffit removed. All electricity, plumbing, drywall, granite, tile and appliances were new.

From that first meeting until the very end of the project, Peter and Crystal proved that our first perception of them was correct, they are indeed very knowledgeable as well as very likeable. They kept in touch, at our pace and with no pressure, throughout the project. My husband and I both agree that at all times they really, really, listened to us. I have to admit that at first I thought the contract price was on the high side, but after going through the entire process, I would say it was very fair. We are picky, but Peter never blinked when we asked to adjust something, whether it be something minor like turning the direction of a cabinet leg or something major when we asked that the installed kitchen island base be slightly redesigned or when we realized we only wanted three, rather than four, drawers in the master bath cabinet. Peter made each and every change with a smile and without additional cost. The word "integrity" comes to mind when I think of how he handles himself and his business. So many times during the project both Peter and Crystal would say, "we want your home to be perfect," and I'm happy to report that they have in fact made it so. We highly recomend PNWC.
Description of Work: Description of Work: Build and construct cabinets for remodel of kitchen, family room, and three baths (master, guest, powder). Work occurred in four phases: (1) Preliminary wishlist, general design advice, estimates; (2) Plan development including measurement, computer design drafts, design advice, and contract write-up; (3) Coordination with contractor for electrical, tile, paint, etc.; and (4) Installation and follow-up. Member Comments: We had been thinking about a remodel of our kitchen and baths for a long time but were overwhelmed by the size of the project. We had met many designers, contractors, etc., over the course of our deliberations but when we met Peter and Crystal from Pacific Northwest Cabinetry(PNWC), everything just clicked - they were both so knowledgeable we felt we could trust our project in their hands, and both so likeable we knew we would enjoy working with them.

I was referred to Peter's company several years ago when I was shopping for a door handle and happened to mention I was going to start looking into a kitchen remodel. Peter and his company did some initial work for me at that time, installing some cabinets in our "great room" that we were remodeling. I liked his work and his efficiency so when it was time for us to actually take on the big project of remodeling the kitchen, Peter was my 1st choice. He and Crystal met with my husband and I several times to establish our needs, wants and desires and they were magical in providing us with a very good "clear picture" of what our new kitchen would look like. Crystal is an expert on the computer and could move the cabinets around to show me different samples of ways the cabinets could look. I liked her advice on how to "balance" the cabinets so they weren't too top heavy or lopsided based on where the appliances went. One example, my husband and I had our heart set on a double oven and even though the space was not as big to warrant the double oven, Crystal and Peter helped find a solution to allow us to have our "wants". Peter was VERY insistent on having all decisions made BEFORE he started the project and I was ever so grateful for that...even though I really wanted to get the project rolling, I also knew it was the wise choice so all product was on hand to install without fear of backorders or out of stock items. My husband and I already had invested in the appliances and they were all sitting in our garage waiting to be installed. So, I spent many weeks picking out the plumbing (faucets, sinks, etc), lighting (for the pendant lights over the island and over my kitchen table), granite for kitchen (I chose 2 different complimentary styles of granite, one for the island and the other for the perimeter area), tile for backsplash, color for the walls and ceiling and color of stain for the hardwood floors. Some of the items we could wait on (such as the color of the walls). I wanted to wait until the granite and cabinets were in so I could "match it up better" but almost all other items were available to his staff and subs so the project could stay on target. Finally the big day came and Peter sent me a "project schedule" that outlined DAILY what would take place. I know Peter had to really do his homework ahead of time to be able to get not only his staff but the other subs on a schedule, now I would see just how much this timeline would work. I thru Peter a challenge right off the bat when I stated we were leaving for a week long camping trip and the house would be empty and he could start the project a week earlier if he wanted. He did take me up on the offer, sent me a new "project timeline" and we were off. Mind you, no easy task to not have a kitchen for 6 weeks with 3 active kids and 2 dogs, plus, trying to keep them out from under the tradesman's during the day while it was summer vacation!. Needless to say, Peter's staff was EXCELLENT, was at the job site on time every day, kept it clean and put away all tools at night so no issues with my kids getting hurt. The project ran VERY SMOOTHLY. I kept a copy of the timeline on the wall in our "make shift" kitchen area (the garage turned into a VERY NICE little sitting and cooking area, complete with microwave and refrigerator). I crossed off the timeline daily and to my surprise, it went EXACTLY as Peter had stated. There were even a few days that the work was done without a glitch and we would have an "off day" with no one at the house because they were SO EFFICIENT, Peter had "built in" enough time to get everything done but lucky for us, we didn't have many "surprises". Peter and I had worked it out to meet every Monday and go over the project for the past week and the upcoming week. He sent us daily emails along with pictures of the progress of our new kitchen -- it was transforming before our eyes!. I must say, for the amount of work that was done on our home, 6 weeks flew by incredibly fast. The biggest issue for us as a family is that we had to leave for at least 3 days when they sanded and stained the hardwood floors (remember 3 kids and 2 dogs)...well, we managed to survive that week because we knew the end was near. I am ever so grateful for the excellent work Peter and his staff did on our home. I can give him an excellent report, and believe me, you would be VERY SATISFIED with his quality and integrity of work.
Description of Work: 1984 Kitchen was gutted and remodeled; Removed all the old oak cabinets along with the tile and laminate counters; Reinstalled new plumbing; Re-located the vent for the oven (went from a downdraft to a hood vent); Installed beautiful new cabinets to my L shaped kitchen and new center island, Added "under cabinet lights" and "over the cabinet ceiling lights"; Added can lights throughout the kitchen and hall area; Re-textured our drywall after removing wallpaper that had been there for 30 years; Painted the kitchen, hall and great room,; Installed hardwood floors to match existing hardwood floors after removing carpet from one of the rooms, removed old stain from the existing hardwood floors, sanded and restained with a new color so the whole floor looked like it all went together; Added a window seat to a bay window area in the kitchen area; Excellent job on cleaning up on the last day as if no one had been there!
Nearly all aspects of the project were completed on-time and at a very high quality level. Highlights included custom cabinets with carefully matched wood grains with beautiful woods inside and out and perfectly installed granite counter-tops. The owner of Pacific Northwest Cabinetry, Peter Schraner, is an obsessive (in a nice way) project manager who engages top-notch sub-contractors and insists on top quality work and on-time performance. At the start of the project we were given a daily schedule of work to be performed. Each day Peter provided us an email update, complete with photos, on work performed and any schedule changes. The original schedule was, for the most part, descriptive of the work actually performed. A mistake was made in the tile installation, which resulted in a two week delay in the final installation. However, the mistake was quickly acknowledged and corrected. The delay was due only to a wait for replacement tile. Nonetheless, the new kitchen was available for our use on the day shown on the original schedule. Peter, his staff and the sub-contractors he employed are both talented and courteous. Neither of us work outside the home, so we were here frequently while work was going on. Never did we feel uncomfortable sharing our home with these people. I would have to say that the final product exceeded our expectations. We are very pleased.
Description of Work: The project was a complete remodel of the kitchen in a 60 year old house. The kitchen had been updated by a previous owner 20+ years earlier. The project scope included new cabinets, appliances, counter-tops and flooring and drywall. No walls were moved, but a pantry was replaced by built-in cabinetry. The project also required replacement of house electrical panel.

Our complete kitchen remodel began in February of 2011 with an Angie's List Big Deal -- $75 for a custom kitchen design. Crystal Kennedy visited our home with the contractor, Mike Andreyuk of ReCraft (reviewed separately). The ensuing design process was very similar to that chronicled in several other reviews, so I will not repeat. If there is ever an Olympics for tape measure, Crystal will win the gold. As everyone else has reported, she is a joy to work with, in person, on the phone, or using email. Between Feb. and July she and I had at least 100 emails back and forth. Crystal often attached photos and websites to respond to my requests for advice on where to purchase appliances, flooring, tile, etc. No detail was too small for her to help me with. She was also fluidly adaptable. When I chose a larger sink than she had anticipated, she smoothly altered the drawer widths to accommodate the sink. She helped us immensely in selecting our cabinet configuration and components. We used cherry in a fairly dark finish and decided to spring for some pull-outs and for soft-closing drawers. We're very happy that we did. My corner pull-out holds a staggering number of casseroles, bowls, and even an electric skillet, and I don't have to crawl into the cupboard anymore to get at them. The workmanship and quality of materials in all the cabinetry is superb. We must have had one of the most decrepit, cheap, ugly -- and not very big -- kitchens that Peter or Crystal had ever seen. However, they and their craftspeople (Ryan and Sean) manifested a strict absence of judgment about the kitchen, our less-than-meticulous housekeeping, and our general ignorance and naivete. These folks are so professional, it's possible that they don't say anything negative about you even in private! They were all enjoyable to have in the house. They insist on impeccably repairing even the teeniest flaws in the cabinetry. Crystal sent the furniture repair person (Win Stapper, a perfectionist if there ever was one) TWICE to our house because we missed one teeny flaw on Win's first visit. I couldn't be happier with my beautiful cabinets.
Description of Work: Pacific NW Cabinetry (Peter Schraner) built and installed the cabinets for our kitchen remodel. Crystal Kennedy, lead designer, did most of the kitchen design work. Our contractor was ReCraft (Mike Andreyuk). This review will focus on Pacific NW Cabinetry, but the two companies accomplished a seamless collaboration for us. The amount spent is for cabinets only. The total for our full kitchen and partial bathroom remodel was $35,596 not including appliances, toilet, bathroom cabinetry & sink, kitchen faucet & sink, etc. etc.

From the first meeting with Peter Schraner ( president and owner) through the design process with Ivy Crouse (interior designer) and the actual construction (which lasted 5 weeks), every task was accomplished on time in the most professional manner. The employees of PNWC that performed the complete tear down of the 1970's kitchen and the installation of the cabinets AND the sub-contractors (window, electrical, plumbing, granite fabrication, drywall, wood flooring and painting) were timely, neat and efficient. Throughout the entire process Peter was on-site daily to ensure each step on the plan was accomplished on schedule. When quality is the goal, Pacific Northwest Cabinetry is the company to use.
Description of Work: PNWC designed and acted as general contractor for a major kitchen remodel. This firm also provided the cabinets for this remodel.

I had an excellent experience with them. I could customize my kitchen according to my style and they would keep the sub-contractors informed that I would call them. They were well-organized and pleasant. I liked their services and will use the same in future.

PLANNING PROCESS: I cannot say enough great things about Crystal, whom we worked with on this project. She and Peter were topnotch from the time we first visited with them up to the time she brought over our touch up stain. They finished two-weeks early and it is an extremely functional and open kitchen. We decided to gut and remodel our kitchen in our 1993 manufactured home. We decided early on, that we were not ?flipping? the house so we wanted something we?d want around the next 20+ years. We visited Pacific Northwest Cabinetry and they came out to the house and took detailed measurements. They also listened to our desires and needs and took them seriously. Early on, we decided that to gain what we wanted we?d be better served in removing two walls. One was a very small wall at the north end of our kitchen and the other a larger wall along the south side that separated the kitchen from the dining room. Although we would lose storage, we would gain a more open feeling with their removal. After drawings were done, we decided to go with a larger cooktop and so we actually added cabinets along the west wall. This helped us gain some storage back along with putting higher cabinets on the east wall. Whenever we had a question, idea, thought or change Peter or Crystal understood and helped us think through and work things into our design. A major concern I had in with Pacific Northwest Cabinetry was that they were NOT a contractor and so they didn?t do the electrical and other work needed to pull this remodel off. Once more, Chrystal introduced us to Mike with Recraft [I?ve reviewed them separately]. She and Peter brought Mike out to the house and walk him through what we needed and wanted. My wife liked Crystal from the get go and the chemistry she felt had much to do with our decision to go with their cabinets. Let me give you an example of how much we trusted her with our design. We had two flooring patterns we liked and thought would go with the cabinets and such. We couldn?t decide so we gave the patterns to Chrystal and asked her to choose which one she thought would go best. She was right. With her work we were able to have a permanent island in our kitchen that serves as a great work space. It also helps make up for some of the space we lost in our design. INSTALLATION: Their installer is a nutcase when it comes to quality. So much so, he jokingly, told me that if I put a nail in the side of the cabinets to hang up a calendar he?d take the kitchen away from me. Ryan was GREAT to have in our house. He was on time, tireless at his task and didn?t stop till things were to his liking. He understood we were living in the house as he worked and was always polite and actually fun to have around. Besides the kitchen, we had a custom piece made for our living room and he was able to modify it to make it fit. He knows his stuff. He was on top of things from the get-go and at the end made sure everything was working, as it should be. Even to coming out to take care of a ?light leak? from between a piece of trim work. REACTIONS: As mentioned before we finished at least two weeks early and so hosted a group over the Superbowl. Everyone was extremely pleased with the new kitchen. We had about the same number of guests as usual but it didn't feel crowded as it had before. The group at Pacific Northwest Cabinetry really did an outstanding job.
Description of Work: Cabinets and design for our remodeled kitchen and dining room
My wife and I had lived with our sterile white cabinets and tile counter tops for 17 years. We had decided awhile ago to make a change, but converting that decision into action took us a couple of years. We got a bid from a builder ? now home remodeler ? but still struggled making a commitment. For a decision of this magnitude, we needed help: enter Angie?s List. A quick search revealed that our builder/home remodeler was not listed ? not necessarily a good sign for us. We decided instead to get a bid from what seemed to be the top rated cabinet maker in the Portland area, Pacific Northwest Cabinetry (PNC). After a quick drop-in visit to PNC?s Milwaukie shop, we invited Peter (the owner) and Crystal (the designer) to come out to our home to discuss our options. After listening to our wishes, needs and concerns, they took several measurements of our kitchen and family room area. A few days later, we met again to go over the bid PNC had prepared. Crystal used a 3D software package to layout the remodel, which helped us visualize what our new kitchen would look like. After some eliminations and additions, we had a bid that we could live with. This bid really wasn?t that much different than the first builder?s bid, but we had the confidence of PNC?s high ratings on Angie?s List. Work commenced on time and ended on schedule. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I concur with the overall experience expressed by the other positive reviews of PNC. Peter and crew have an ambitious goal: to exceed customer expectations. With the complexity of a job of this scale and the myriad of things that could have gone wrong, they accomplished that quite nicely. PNC has also assembled a group of contractors who each subscribe to Peter?s work ethic and philosophy. As the master conductor, Peter makes sure that each contractor works in sequence and harmony to complete the job on time and on budget.
Description of Work: Full kitchen remodel - no major walls moved (cabinets, counter tops, lights, plumbing, appliance installation). Hardwood extended into family room, all hardwood floors sanded and stained to match. Strip and stain existing cabinets in family room and banister. Price above does not include the new appliances.

I first met with Crystal to determine what I could do with my kitchen. I had my ideas but wasn't sure if some of them would work or not. I also needed to find a contractor because there were other aspects of the job that would need a general contractor. Crystal recommended Steve Amick, a contractor that she worked with quite often and really liked his work. Both Crystal and Steve came out to the house to take a look at the kitchen and understand what I was looking for in a new kitchen. They took measurements and asked question . Although I really wasn't looking to move the kitchen around too much, I did need some help to determine what would really work and another persons perspective on some of the problem areas of the kitchen. A week later we met again and went over their proposals and design ideas for the kitchen. Within the next week we finalized the design ideas,I had the design layouts and quotes and we were on our way to a new kitchen. Crystal was wonderful to work with. She was extremely helpful in guiding me through the process. She was always there to answer my questions. Installation crew did a great job with the cabinets. Steve did a fabulous job pulling together all of the components of the remodel so it flowed smoothly. The end result was excellent. This is a great team. Both my husband and I are extremely happy with the result of this remodel and highly recommend Pacific Northwest Cabinetry to anyone planning to remodel their kitchen or bathroom.

Our home is an 1880's farmhouse with several kitchen remodels through the years. Pacific Northwest Cabinetry upgraded the kitchen, the lighting, and the usability. Peter Schraner, owner, personally came out and photographed the kitchen and was able to create a 3D interactive simulation of our kitchen. We really want to create a more contemporary yet keep it with the style of the old farm house. Our budget did not allow for completely remodeling the rooms, but with simple relighting, additional upper cabinets in a lighter wood, resurfacing the really sturdy lower cabinets with the same wood, we were able to brighten the entire room and the small playroom off the kitchen. The quality of workmanship is very high. When Peter mentioned that this is a several generation family business, you can tell that quality has kept them in business and old-world craftmanship has been passed through the family. Every corner lines up, handles remain even, spacing between drawers is consistent, trim is finished off properly, high quality hinges and runners are always used. These cabinets are not preassembled or mass produced boxes. Each door and drawer was made for the space assigned. What an amazing transformation! We now have the kitchen we have always dreamed of. We stayed in our budget. The process made use of reusing the lower cabinets and granite countertops, keeping with our desires to be as sustainable as possible. And most importantly, the quality has been incredible. Things we never thought of were suggested and afterwards, we sat in our new kitchen and could not think of anything we wished we had done differently. Peter's team was amazing. After selecting our cabinets, wood, handles, and extra features, Peter gave us an outline of the actual remodel. Every step of the process marched along his timeline. They were in on Monday and by three p.m. Friday, the final crew was vacuuming, dusting, and wiping down our kitchen. We were moved back in and eating dinner on Friday. Three weeks later, we are still so very pleased. Our experience in the past with other remodeling companies, there is always something missed, little thing that need to be "fixed" or altered. We can't find anything to complain about or to put on the "project" list for a future weekend. As for the rest of the crew, I sat and watched the team one morning, they were so patient with working around old carpentry and wiring. The crew was polite, courteous and very appropriate around our children; never once did we hear inappropriate language or conversation. Whether Peter was on the job site or off on another project, his crew had the upmost respect for him, kept him up to date, and spoke of the long time work relationship with him. They definitely enjoy working for Pacific Northwest Cabinetry. Our only call to Pacific Northwest Cabinetry has been to tell them how much we appreciate their workmanship. Are we considering using them again. Haven't told them yet, be we are already talking about calling up Peter and asking him to tackle the ancient indoor laundry room.
Description of Work: Pacific Northwest Cabinetry came in and created a 3D image of our current and projected kitchen. They helped us to select the wood color that best matched our granite counters and floor. The team even suggested door handles that would pick up the granite color and pull in our black appliances. After listening to our major concerns of budget, sustainability, and keeping the historic farmhouse style, Pacific Northwest Cabinetry helped us in selecting and designing the best possible use of our current space. Pacific Northwest Cabinetry's owner, Peter Schraner, really listened to our secondary concerns . . . more light, more accessible cabinets (deep pocket corners with no pull outs), additional space for pantry items, a hood for our stove, and finishing off the backsplash. At installation, the crew taped off the kitchen from the rest of the house. In five days, they rewired the kitchen, put in extra lights, removed old fluorescent tubes and garbage disposal switches, sheet rocked and textured the repair areas, they resurfaced cabinets, installed new doors, brought in new upper cabinets, installed a new over-the-stove microwave/convection oven, installed under the counter lighting, and completely cleaned the kitchen.

Peter and everyone who worked for him did an excellent job. We are thrilled with our cabinets, and our whole new kitchen/family room. Every craftsman he called to the job did an absolutely outstanding job. Every single one was courteous, fun, on time, friendly and very responsive. This was our first time through a project of this size and they made it much easier than we expected. Having a showroom, and a designer available to us was a real plus. The designer met me to look at backsplash tiles at the store, and also came to our house to help choose paint and cabinet colors. This team is great! Skilled, prompt, and really good at helping clients unfamiliar with this process. We were never "talked into" anything; they were always willing to answer questions and they were very agreeable to all of our decisions. I would hire these guys again in a second. In fact, I don't think I'd call anyone else.
Description of Work: Full kitchen/family room remodel, starting with a 1983 kitchen. The room was gutted floor to ceiling, a soffit removed, a hardwood floor installed, new lighting, new cabinets in kitchen and laundry room, new sliding door and two new windows installed, new countertops and backsplash, and new appliances. The kitchen work involved a new floor plan for the cabinets and appliances.

We hired Pacific Northwest Cabinets to remodel the kitchen/family room of our 1974 Rock Creek home. The experience was truly delightful and my husband and I could not possibly be happier with the final outcome. Our initial consultation with Crystal was informative and helpful. Crystal gave us a lot of great ideas for possibilities in our kitchen/family room. She wasn?t pushy with her ideas; she just wanted us to be armed with as much information as possible in order to make the best choices for our situation. She asked us lots of questions in order to understand what we did and did not like about our current kitchen and family room. She also asked us lots of questions about how we would like to use the space. Then Crystal and Steve Amick, general contractor, came to our home along with an electrician to get measurements. They spent a lot of time with us in our home, really listening carefully to our needs and making suggestions. After all the measurements were done and Crystal and Steve had an opportunity to put together a presentation and get quotes for the job, we met again at Pacific Northwest Cabinetry. Not only was there an itemized bid, there was also a computer generated rendering of our new kitchen and family room, viewable from all angles. It was amazing seeing the culmination of so many people ideas and imagination captured so perfectly on a big screen. Crystal and Steve did a good job working around my husbands and my bizarre and difficult work schedule. This schedule only allowed access to the house for 3 to 4 days per week. They laid out a schedule of what would be done each day and who would be doing it. Amazingly, at no point during the construction did the project get behind schedule. Every single craftsman that worked on our home, from Pacific Northwest Cabinetry, to the general contractor, the electricians, plumbers, floor installers, granite installers and tile installer showed great pride in workmanship. The cabinetry is of high quality with great attention to all the details. Even the parts of the cabinetry that are against the ceiling or wall and will never be seen are finished to perfection. Everyone treated our project as if it was the most important thing going on and treated my husband and myself like we were most valued friends and customers. We?ve all heard horror stories about bad remodels and bad contractors, so my husband and I were, of course, a little nervous going into this. The overall experience exceeded our wildest hopes. If I had it all to do over again, I would not hesitate to call Pacific Northwest Cabinetry team.
